Does T-Mobile work in Canada? - General Questions and Answers

Hey Guys, I'm wondering if any of you have traveled to Canada with your T-Mobile Phone. I personally go to Toronto every year but last year when I went I was with Verizon and my phone did work, this is my first year with T-Mobile and can any of you tell me if T-Mobile works in Canada? Thank you.
I've heard that once I'm in Canada I can switch to the Rogers Network which is GSM via T-Mobile on my phone? Do I need to be Unlocked for that?

Your t-mobile phone will work perfectly fine. But, if you can get the phone unlocked, just pick up a prepaid sim card when you get there. Much much cheaper! Btw, while your up there, any calls that go to voicemail, you pay international roaming, even if you don't pick it up. Just a heads up.

[Q] if sim unlocked, would sensation work with rogers fully?

Hi,
I am currently in taiwan, and I was just wondering if I bought a Sensation (4g? is it 2 different phones?), and unlocked it, would I be able to use Rogers with it? I've been searching around, and I could find threads saying thers problems such Rogers can't provide 4g, and services not working. Im a total nub at this so I tried to search things up, but nothing came up. Please help .

Rogers has the same bands on Hspa as Bell and Telus. So yes your phone will work on Rogers Canada. Rogers also has the old Gsm bands, Sensation also has these bands but thats only if you're in a non 3g zone.!
Yess , alright ill consider buying it then, thanks for the help
hmm, my friend told me because im buying from taiwan, that it is already unlocked so i dont need to do anything except put my roger sim card in, is that true?
yes i remember when i went back to taiwan and look at the sensation the reps at the htc booth said that they are unlocked. i'm not sure if you buy it from a carrier like chunghwa telecom though. calling should work but not sure about 3g data.

[Q] Global HTC One - Verizon

Hello, I have been itching to get my hands on the HTC One. I'm currently with Verizon and am considering buying an unlocked phone. Is it possible to get any One phone and have it work on the CDMA network? How do you do it? If I wait to get the Verizon One, will it be usable on any other networks? I thought about just getting it on contract, but I still have the unlimited data and north America texting so don't want to lose that. Plus, I may move to Canada (telus, Rogers, Bell) so would want an easy out from verizon as well as bring my phone with me.
Thanks

Telcel to Verizon

I have a friend that just moved here from Mexico. He just purchased an S3 a year ago through Mexico provider (Telcel). He had to pay $2-300 to get out of their contract. Now he has this useless phone. He went to Verizon to get service but they told him he would have to purchase a phone that the Telcel phone would not work. I thought they could just swap the SIM card but that's not the case according to Verizon..
Does anyone on here have an idea if this is true or not?

I'm assuming it's a GSM/LTE variant and would need to be CDMA/LTE. Even then it wouldn't work due to different frequency ranges.

[Q] Any chance of activating this phone?

I live in Ontario, Canada and just bought a $30 Sprint CDMA HTC Evo3d from across the border(Buffalo NY) that works perfectly.
Since Rogers acquired Sprint Canada in 2005, I asked on Rogers forum if Rogers can activate this phone for use and they said no as Rogers only bought Sprint "home phone and long distance"...So I guess sprint wireless never even existed in Canada.
Is there any way of activating this phone in Canada with any other carrier, if it is unlocked perhaps? I already got it to s-off...
...
Also, I found this list of Sprint international carriers so maybe one of those companies(Canada) I can sign on with, or are these just for roaming coverage??

I spoke with Bell support, they said Sprint can give you a code to unlock it over the phone so it can be used on a different CDMA carrier(such as bell)

Turns out you need the MSL password to access the EPST *edit* menu(CDMA frequencies and phone identity info for the new carrier to program in)
MSL can be obtained by ROOT app called "MSL Reader"
hope this helps someone some day

At&t moving to TMobile

Good afternoon all. I am thinking of switching my phone from AT&T over to TMobile. When I do this, will I then be able to install custom roms on the phone? Thanks in advance for your help.
If it is the AT&T model, then no. Only the carrier will change but the bootloader will still be locked and be unable to be unlocked at the present time. Sorry!

Thanks so much for answering this. I was about to switch over. Now I know it wouldn't do me any good.
Only good that would come of it is Tmo would pay your AT&T phone off and you can get a tmo v10 and unlock it. Tmo has binge on for youtube I use a lot . But if traveling AT&T has far superior coverage period .

I think I'll hold off on switching for awhile. I ended up getting the Note 7 on Tmo for business, so I'll definitely take advantage of Binge On. Thanks for the info.
I actually switched from ATT to T-Mobile last year. My best friend is a VP at T-Mobile. I have to say the phone was bootloader un-locked 10 minutes after leaving the store. Literally just a debug option. I live in North Texas, and where T-Mobile works they can't be beat. I was getting crazy speeds, 50+mbps. But there were lots of spots where it did not work. To the point I couldn't place or receive a call. Places that ATT and Verizon work. I also told them at the time of switching to them I needed two Cell Spots. I knew their service would not work at my home or at our lake home. They agreed, and for the next 5-6 months I played this game where they would only allow one to be activated at a time. So after about six months of it I bought out my contracts and came back to ATT. Yes I have a T-Mobile V10 unlocked, rooted, custom rom working on ATT. I get decent speeds but not what I get on the ATT Variant of the phone. I wish t-mobile was more complete on their coverage, while they may have coverage in more cities I don't think it's as complete coverage as ATT or Verizon. I also did not find that their plan was all that much cheaper than the ATT plan. Sorry for the long rant, just my two cents.
Is it possible to flash H960 international version .kdz file on H900 at&t version? If anyone does it, what are the issues caused? I was planning to do the same but I am new to LG.
Let me know if its possible and what are it's implications.
