Try fastboot & try to flash clockwork.img recovery!

unlock bootloader doesnot work
We all know the standard commands to unlock the bootloader but for some reason on my Nexus S device, the bootloader unlock is not working. Here is what I did,
1. Connect the device and type 'fastboot oem unlock'
2. It brings up a menu to select "No" or "YES" to unlock options...I navigated through volume up key to select "YES" to unlock boot loader.
3. Now I have to restart the device by pressing power button, the POWER BUTTON doesn't respond there by bootloader unlock doesn't complete.
4. It just hangs in bootloader unlock screen forever.
Does anyone faced this issue? why this happens??
please help me out.
Thanks and regards,
-Lakshman

You need to be in the boot loader for that to work.

I am

I've the same Problem. I'm in the bootloader and it says Fastboot Mode but the device is not recognized via USB.
Therefore fastboot is just waiting for devices.
Any suggestions? When my nexus is booted i can connect it als USB-Storage and so on.

I fixed it using the sdk drivers and the fastboot and adb files from the sdk (path/android/platform-tools).

Didn't work for me. I'm always using SDK.
My Bootloader is unlocked. (the little lock ist opened )
I just tried it on a completly different computer. just setted up a new SDK on my laptop.
Am I doing something wrong?
I've USB-Debug Mode enabled.
I boot holding VOL up + Power Button to enter the bootloader
Plug in the USB cable
and then i try ~android-sdk/platform-tools/fastboot flash recovery myrecovery.img
Here my Fastboot says wating for device.
If i'm booted up on my rom i can connect via adb and get a my device via adb devices.
Probably something wrong with my fastboot.exe?

weird problem trying to unlock nexus s

a buddy of mine bought a nexus s off of craigslist that is constantly force closing when you boot it. it will force close everything then reboot itself. im attempting to unlock the bootloader but adb devices doesnt show the serial number like it does for my nexus s. when i hold down volume up+down and plug in the usb it goes to the unlock bootloader screen but it doesnt give you the option of yes or no. iv posted a picture to show what it looks like. i cant get the phone into download to try to fix it with odin either. any help would be appreciated.
edit: i finally got my pc to recognize it and we now have an unlocked bootloader, but now iv encountered another problem. i downloaded a recovery image and moved it to the tools folder of sdk when i type in the fastboot flash recovery command it responds with error: cannot load recovery.img.
To unlock bootloader, you have to use fastboot, not adb. So the correct command would be fastboot devices
To boot into the bootloader, you have to press volume up + power, not volume up+down and plug in the usb -- that would bring you into the Download Mode instead

i know, i used adb devices to see if my computer would even recognize the phone. i i can get into fastboot mode by pressing volume up and power but cant send a fastboot command to the phone because it doesnt recognize the phone. when i hold down volume up and down to get into download mode it sends me to the screen i showed in the pic. its the unlock bootloader screen except there is no option to click yes to unlock the bootloader. i would love to get into download mode and use odin hence why i pressed vol up and down and plugged in usb, but like i said it sends me to the unlock bootloader screen.

Before you try to unlock the bootloader I would flash the latest stock rom and see if it boots properly.

Try one of these recovery images:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988686
The full command is
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
(make sure your recovery image file is actually named recovery.img)
If 'fastboot devices' returns your phone's id you can flash a custom recovery. Otherwise get a full _signed_ stock rom and flash from stock recovery.
Did you install all drivers? Deinstall existing and use either pdanet or sdk build in program to get them. You need like 3 different ones.
Try locking unlocking bootloader again.
There's always the chance you got a defective usb connector.

Can you flash a .img file? I haven't tried that. But this still doesn't answer the question why fastboot commands or adb doesn't respond with this rom.

I get that, any idea how to get into fastboot now?
In order to issue a fastboot command the phone needs to be in fastboot.
You would not issue that command. You would issue adb reboot bootloader. Or just reboot boot loader on the terminal on the phone with su privileges
When the phone is in the bootloader put it in fastboot mode then you issue fastboot commands from a computer that is properly set up to do. Like fastboot devices. Or fastboot flash recovery recovery image name.img etc
I would love to do that except when I go into boot loader there is no option for fastboot

[Q] Fastboot Problems

I am trying to flash a custom recovery with fastboot but it is not working. When i put the device in fastboot mode it says"Starting Fastboot USB download protocol" but the screen doesn't change. When I flash it in CMD it says it finished but the device still does nothing. Then the same when I try to reboot it via flashboot. It says it is done but the device does nothing and I still have no custom recovery.

If fastboot is not working you need to look at 2 things: 1)Android SDK is not installed or 2)driver is not installed correctly. BTW, is your device rooted and unlocked and what version of firmware?
Edit: Also make sure usb debugging is checked in settings.

I second what buhohitr says...an unlocked tab is imperative to the process.
My device is unlocked but not rooted( I am trying to root it right now). I think it might be the SDK. I'm not sure if I installed it so I will do that now. Thanks

Are you saying it says finished on the cmd prompt? Then it is done :cyclops:
I think you are missing the point.
It won't immediately take you into recovery.
You need to send the reboot command, then power off, power on again with vol down held down until the 4 icons appear, then volume up on RCK which should be default and now you should be in a custom recovery

OK, so everything is clear, you're unlocked. Now back to my previous post:
1. SDK installation (check step 1 (jre java, you probably already have this...everyone does and step 3: SDK)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1842969
2. USB driver:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1706588
Make sure your usb debugging and unknow sources are both checked in settings. (if they are not, please try first before proceed to step 1).

[Q] Stuck in "FASTBOOT MODE - NO BOOT OR RECOVERY IMG"

My NExus S is stuck on the screen that says:
Fastboot Mode No Boot or Recovery IMg.
Product Name - Herring
HW Version - Rev34
Bootloader Version - D720SPRKC5
Baseband Version - D720SPRLCI
Carrier Inro - SPR
Serial Number 32300E25C33500EC
Lock State - Locked
options to select
Reboot Bootloader (gives me exact same screen) except it only says "Fastboot"
Reboot Back to the "FASTBOOT MODE - NO BOOT OR RECOVERY IMG"
Recovery (Can boot to CWM but I can't mount anything)
Power OFF (That works fine)
Then the little green man and the android logo
Followed by USB Control INIT
USB Control INIT End
STANDARD_SET_CONFIGURATION
Conventional wisdom says download some files and fix via fastboot. However in fastbootI can't run ANY of the steps without running FASTBOOT OEM UNLOCK. When I run it my phone asks if I really want to unlock the bootloader. when I choose YEs and hit power it just freezes there.
My next thought Boot to recovery and restore. A restore through recovery followed by a reboot leads me back to the original no boot or recovery img.
Okay I'll just sideload a working rom by mounting usb storage. Then I can flash it with CWM and be up and running.
but when I try to do mount the USB Storage I get "E:Unable to write to ums 1unfile (No such file or directory)"
Finally, Last ditch Effort, I'll load up ODIN and use that to put on a working recovery. there's forums all over the place explaining how to do that right? Well yes, but the links to the Tar file are all broken.
What next my friends? I'd really like to get this phone working.

Same situation for me, because i pressed "Reboot" in CWM without having flashed a Rom (stupid ). Broken power button, hanging on Google logo or in Fastboot mode.
I hope RTK will help me :good:
Edit: I have no idea how to revive my Nexus S. Status: Broken Power button, Bootloop, can access Fastbood Mode but dont select someting, Bootloader unlocked, RTK doesn´t find any devices in Fastboot Mode, Device is rooted and has CWM

what about just using adb? Can you find it when you type fastboot devices? If so there's a command in fastboot to reboot to recovery I think.
I on the other hand am screwed. I read in another forum that it hangs on unlock because the internal memory is fubar.

Solution for me:
1. Turn device on into Bootloop
2. Connect it via USB (PC founds it)
3. type in CMD "adb reboot recovery"
4. device is in recovery
5. reflash everything i wanted :good:
Requirement is a working Android-SDK!
I wish it was that easy for me. I can access recovery just fine. It's the memory I can't touch. Unless someone knows a way to fix corrupted memory...

Did my phone bricked itself? Please help!

Hey guys, I received my OnePlus One today yayy!
BUT. I booted the phone, configured everything like I wanted, installed all the apps I wanted and then I got an OTA update so I figured I would do that too!
The phone rebooted and... stuck on the 1+ logo / powered by android.
I asked around and people on the OnePlus forums told me to boot into recovery and perform a factory reset / clear cache.
I did this and my phone booted again. I reconfigured everything, reinstalled everything and I decided to reboot the phone.
It got stuck again on the logo.
Now though... I can't boot into recovery mode. I asked for help again but no answers... through some research, I installed Android SDK and tried to open a command prompt and type "adb devices". Nothing appears in the list.
Can someone help me? I just want to cry...
Before you can use ADB, you need the ADB drivers. Download the OnePlus One Toolkit and use the feature that downloads and installs the correct drivers. Or you can manually look for them.

Drivers are already installed, the phone is stuck in the boot sequence.
It's detected by both "adb devices" and "fastboot devices". It responds to commands like "fastboot reboot" but since it cannot reboot, this achieves nothing. I can't "fastboot oem unlock" because the phone doesn't load the OS.

Hey, thanks for your reply!
I'm also getting help from the OnePlus forums but here are the latest updates:
I managed to get into fastboot and flash everything (boot, cache, system, recovery etc.). However, everytime I reboot, it still hangs on the boot screen. I have to leave the phone off for about 5 minutes, get into recovery mode, clear the cache and boot into the OS... every... single... time I reboot.
Is there a reason for this? Should I install another ROM (like Paranoid Android or Color OS) instead? Is there a fix to this or is it even software-based?
Unlock bootloader ,flash twrp, flash flashable rom zip.In twrp wipe everything, then go to mount & then uncheck system. Then flash the rom.zip
