Christmas wish... - Samsung Infuse 4G

Is that all you Infuse devs and porters get Skyrockets for Xmas.
Its a selfish wish really, as I miss all the quality support that the Infuse forum enjoys.
That is all.

You skyrocket users are hilarious...I've seen several different skyrocket owners begging for devs on other sub-forums, not just this one...

Okay note self: Optimus-Prime... DO NOT, under no circumstance get a SGSII Sky Rocket. They have no devs. D:

I personally WILL NOT EVER be getting a Skyrocket. It's a proprietary phone just like the Infuse and therefore is one hell of a ***** to develop for. I'll be getting the SII, Vivid, or wait for the SIII.

The Skyrocket takes everything that was bad about the Infuse for developers (oddball hardware with major differences from anything out there) and takes it to whole new levels.
Infuse has maybe 70% commonality with other Samsungs - that 30% is obviously a major barrier to successful AOSP bringups, but at least the 70% means there's a lot of stuff that can be borrowed from other devices.
Skyrocket has maybe 5% commonality - means less desirability to developers AND less productivity/more frustration from the developers they do have.
We really don't have that many developers doing I777-specific work - but we don't need to because of the fact that we have a wealth of information to pull from the I9100 community, since our hardware is 95% common.

Give me a break. Nice topic

On paper it is a kickass phone. But other than that... It just sucks... Visually it is a eyesore. I mean, has anybody noticed that round/ovalish phones just loom ugly. Personal perfrence i guess but its kinda ugly. Put a infuse and a sky rocket next to each other i would take the infuse anyday. I like square phones i guess...

The first time I saw the round skyrocket I was So turned off. But I've been using my friends for zso.e time and now I kinda don't care about the roundedness anymore lol. Also my God I thought the phone would be heck lot different from infuse. Honestly it just runs smoother. But after that....the skyrocket gets slightly boring.

didn't know about all that and it kinda sucks...but just kinda. even on a stock ROM or one of the less than spectacular ones we DO have over in the SR forums, the SR runs much smoother. my only complaint would be my screen isn't as flawless as my Infuse was.
to those complaining of the "roundness" of the SR. yeah yeah, i also prefer the Infuse design, but it actuality, it's really not that much different than the Infuse.
if you live in an LTE area, the thing absolutely rips through data

Lemme tell you something. *Optimus Prime's Voice* If a device isn't doesn't have good looks I ain't buying it. I would pick up the SR in a jiffy if.it wasn't oval. Shove its internals in a Infuse body and I would be all over that.

[Q] Infuse Expectations?

I just bought a Infuse 4G on the AT&T website the other day, and heading to pick it up tomorrow. I was just wondering what the pro's and con's are of the phone. I have a grace period in case I don't like the phone and see if there's a better trade.
is this an upgrade? i seen it advertized for $19.99 at radioshack..i would go with the sg2,skyrocket, or vivid..but i bought the infuse on launch day,im happy with it
I've heard from several people the dual cores are slower than the infuse. I'm very happy with what I have at this point in time.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using XDA App
it's not that the dual cores are slower as a whole, but simply that there are less apps that can fully take advantage of it. I mean, using a skyrocket, theres like, slightly less delay flipping through a million menus, but on a day to day basis, its no problem.
expect a beautiful screen, and snappy response after you install one of the custom roms. If you're planning on using it as a music player, supercurio said it has the best audio chip/codec on the market right now. And avoid the samsung based roms if you do, they don't like reading ID3 tags properly.
as a note, i recommend CM7 with the thunderbolt script installed. fking amazing.
nothing really comes to mind for cons, i mean, it's fast, but not the fastest. is it fast enough? i'd say so. screens amazing as i already said, battery lasts me a good day with heavy usage. HD videos don't lag, i can play PSX games on it no problem, overall pretty solid
Skyrocket is fast on stock, but alot of others I have tested like bionic is slower then mine when running cm7. I benchmark both.

I would STRONGLY recommend returning the Infuse and getting the Galaxy S II (I777).
There is NO reason for anyone to purchase the Infuse new at this point.
Avoid the Skyrocket, it'll have the same problems as far as software updates availability as the Infuse, if not worse. At least the Infuse had 70% commonality with other devices. The ****rocket is at maybe 5% - it has a similar screen and that is it.
The I777 is 95% identical to Samsung's international flagship, the I9100.

I've had all three and to be honest I prefer the skyrocket, then the i777 then the infuse
Return it! Don't get an old device and be stuck with dying dev for 2 yrs.

I also purchased the Infuse on launch day. Im very happy with with. Im on Darky rom and very, very happy with it.. flawless! Just so dissapointed.. no updates. Just checked and TM Sensation is up for the GB update. I'll stick with this phone for the two years.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I'm with entropy. An infuse or skyrocket puts you at mercy of Samsung and att. An I9100 or i777 gives you options cuz Samsung cares about their international flagships. Even the i9000 still gets support.
But the infuse isn't a bad phone. It just lacks kernel devs and GB source code for att specific features.
When Samsung has a lte flagship that'll be the phone to get. but alot of what Samsung offered that made the galaxy s so good is now available in the market but better. At this point a nexus phone is a good choice cuz all the multimedia stuff is covered 3rd party.
About what you can expect the infuse has a dated processor that was ahead of it's time. What I mean is it has awesome multimedia support for a 2010 processor, infact most 2011 and early 2012 phones have exactly the same graphics processor. You will see lag on websites with a lot of content that you don't see on dual, core phones but nothing to complain about most of the time.
Alright both sides seem pretty equal. I would get SGSII but I haven't found it for anything less then $100 dollars, and I can get the infuse refurbished for a 1ยข. Which if its not much slower or any problems I would like to save the money. But also if the difference is that large I rather spend the extra.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
Personally I would just stay with the infuse and don't believe the hype...there's really not much difference....

I know everyone hates these posts. The ones that some guy you don't know.will never know. and don't care to know, upgrades to a different phone and feels the need to say goodbye. Trust me I have seen plenty and I rolled my eyes too.
That said, I finally upgraded to the sgs2 last night and will be retiring my cappy. I just wanted to take a second to thank all the amazing developers in here. You guys honestly made the cappy better. I also want to thank all the people who helped me. The amount of knowledge you all have about this stuff is amazing. There.. I tried to keep it semi short and sweet. Just wanted to express my appreciation. ...... flame if you must.

Thinking about moving aswell
i think i'll stick with cappy for now, although i agree this website is amazing with all the knowledge for free........ thanks a bunch xda
I was skeptical about leaving the Cappy behind too, but when AT&T put refurb SGS2s online for $.01 well that did me in. My upgrade is on its way and I'll probably be handing off the Cappy to my wife who's stuck with an old iPhone 3G.
On another note I feel it's been neat to "sync" with some of the devs who had the Fuze like me and also moved to the Captivate when the time to upgrade came. Guess I'm going to be with them again in a couple days.
I think the captivate has been a great experience. From 2.1 all the way to having 4.0...what's next? Enjoy the s2

Skyrocket the best phone?

I am seriously in love with my white skyrocket! I've had the Galaxy Nexus, Droid Razr, GS2, and thunderbolt in the last 4 months and hands down the skyrocket is the best phone in the market.
Anybody disagree or agree?

I totally agree! I love my white skyrocket only thing that kills me is the lack of new roms for the skyrocket. There alot of quality rooms ATM but i cone from the evo 4g where roms were popping out every hour it seemed like it. I know the momentum is building so can't wait for the new roms coming out soon. Great phone!

I disagree the T989 is the best phone. Lol but I get where your coming from the Sgs2 line is definitely worth it and better than most phones out. I'm coming from the Galaxy Nexus as well. The memory was the main deal breaker for me but I may get it back later. Not too sure right now.
But I have 16 on board and 32 on top.

Thats our crappy carriers fault!! Damn you AT&T!!!
This phones a beast, I love it.
When I look at an iphone4, I see a childs toy. The colors look so bland and the screen looks so small lol. This phone has spoiled me!
It is the best phone for the money if you want LTE. The best phone I've ever owned for a few weeks was the SGH-i777 but it didn't have LTE. The only drawback.
Skyrocket is $150. Added to the AT&T family plan, it only costs ~$32.50 a month for standard plan and 2 gigs of data.
Since no one in my family has Verizon, Verizon plans cost me $90 a month, plus an additional ~$15 of Verizon mystery tax. I would say Verizon LTE is better though, but it is unbearably expensive. And I don't even like the Galaxy Nexus anyway. No microSDHC slot, very limited video codec support. I don't really care about the camera so much. But I watch a lot of video on this thing. Galaxy Nexus is not the best device for hassle-free watch anything you can download from the web device.
It probably depends on your priorities. But, at the moment, if I had to get a phone all over again, I'd probably still choose the SR.
The only thing this thing seems to be missing is an HD screen. But, I suspect (aka, guessing) b/c of the lower res, it gets better battery life.. which is more important to me.
If data wasn't an issue, I'd slightly prefer the i777 for the size (and it seemed slightly more consistent in the month I had it).
I love my Skyrocket, but I don't think there is a "best phone." One has to choose their phone based on what they want. I for one wanted a huge beautiful screen and ridiculously fast speeds, so I am happy with my choice.

I noticed you said you had a RAZR. Any feedback on why you didn't like the phone? I'm currently trying to decide between an i727 and a RAZR, and the RAZR is $100 less than the i727 right now. Plus the RAZR seems more durable and "shouldn't" need a case to add bulk to it.

Have played with a friends RAZR extensively...its a great device, but not one I would buy. Main reasons - the device feels really wide because of the bezels and the screen suffers from a sickly green tinge when not viewed from straight on. The display is also pentile which made text appear more jagged on the SR's samoled plus. With that said, build quality is awesome and love the splash proof coating. Somehow, beer always ends up getting spilled on my phone...
Love the phone but hate the battery life. Barely any use and phone is nearly dead before my work day is over. Charging is bad, very slow. When using GPS ona car adapter, phone dies while on the charger. Again, charge rate is slower than use.

I'd really recommend getting the Galaxy SII (not Skyrocket).
Just. Plain. Old. Sexy. Classy. SII.
The Skyrocket has a larger screen (4.5"), but from what I hear, it seems to have a few more issues than the SII original. Regardless, I still hear it's a great phone, but I think as far as getting future updates and Samsung support, original Galaxy SII is the safest bet.
If you really want a huge phone, look at the Galaxy Note.
And... Stay away from the Infuse. It's considered really old and outdated now. Yes, it's still a perfectly usable phone and it performs everyday tasks wonderfully. But when you can get the SII now for $100 or less, I just don't see why you'd want to lock into 2 years with a phone that is already a year old.
Plus, if you're a gamer, you definitely want to go with SII and not the Infuse. The RAM difference makes some games not be "compatible" with the Infuse.
To be honest, stay away from Samsung phones. I have two, a captivate and a infuse. I'm over Samsung because of the way they shelve their phones after a couple of months and all the problems in their software. I bought an Atrix 2 and its the best phone i have ever had. At first i wasnt sure about it because its a moto phone. Now that i have had it awhile i recommend this phone to anyone. Best battery life, 4 gb of space for apps and i got an over the air update on the second day of me having the phone. Its on the list for a ics update too. I have not had one single problem with this phone. Just my opinion but i would not get a samsung.

I guess I'm a Samsung fan boy. I have always had a Samsung, even before smart phones. I had a Captivate which I gave to my wife when I went with an Infuse. Really love the big screen and I would get a Note if I had the money.....Really doesn't matter if AT&t never pushes out any updates, because I am running CM7.
I recommend the Galaxy S II (i777). I like the Infuse and Skyrocket, but the i777 is perfect. I'd also recommend the Skyrocket over the Infuse, purely because of the RAM difference. The Infuse can't be my daily device, because I need more RAM. So, in my opinion . . .
Galaxy S II (i777) > Skyrocket > Infuse
Samsung may have its issues with software, but theres no denying that their products are well made. Almost everything in my house is made by Samsung. They never die.
That aside, what is your budget and requirements? If you have the money and like the size, get a Note. I've heard nothing but good things about it and developers here are already playing with it. There doesn't seem to be any love for the Skyrocket though. If you're strapped for cash, I'd definately look into the Infuse. The price fluctuates from $50 to free sometimes, so you might get a great deal on one. It's one of the best phones I've ever had. All of the software issues have already been resolved by the devs here. While it may be a little dated by 2012 standards, it handles almost everything I throw at it and you just can't brick it. That's something those ****ty HTCs and Motorolas can't claim.

Not bad
The infuse is a nice phone from what I have experienced. Doesn't look like it will get CM9 though so I would avoid it.
The screen is absolutely beautiful despite it's pitiful resolution. The colors are stunning and viewable from all angles making pictures better looking than what you took a picture of! Also sometimes I forget I am reading off of my phone when using google books and think it's my kindle.
RAM is pitiful (512?! Really Samsung??) but the phone operates smoothly despite.
Battery life is better than anything HTC has to offer.
I am personally looking for an Atrix 4g and it's laptop dock. Pretty sweet combo.
I got the skyrocket. Nice phone.

Captivate - Best Samsung's design of ALL time?

Everyone knows that among the Galaxy S line-up, our Cappy has the best design and built quality. At first, I was about to ignore the whole Galaxy S series just because the international version looks so iPhone-wannabe. When AT&T released the Cappy, I was really impressed with its design, and when it comes to real life I'm even more impressed with how elegant it is. The metal back makes it less er... cheap to me. So I decided to get one and I'm still loving every bit of my Cappy till today.
Samsung have just released the Galaxy S III. Some Cappy owners might feel sad because they realize that their phone is now outdated compared to new technology. But there's one thing that any other Samsung phones is inferior to our Captivate. You know what it is: the design. I can proudly and loudly say that the Captivate beats the GS III in terms of design. Personally, I think Captivate is Samsung's best design of all time. I'm not saying that because I'm a Captivate owner. Just because... it really is! The only reason holding me back from buying any other Samsung phones is their design. I love Super Amoled screens. I love their high quality/performance SoC. But their designs are just... bad. Especially when the whole thing is made of plastic.
So that's my personal opinions on the Captivate, Samsung and their designs. Post your opinion & let me see what you think
I agree and I think that's why a lot of us (myself included) are looking at the HTC One X.
I agree with you. Samsung, and some other asian companies are too conservative with the design that goes in to these products. The technology may be cutting edge, and the processors blistering fast, but if it looks like a rounded bar of soap, they've missed an opportunity. This isn't the future I'm paying for!
Design is among the most important factors when it comes to brand recognition and perception of quality. SO putting in the effort on the design side of things will distance them from the competition and make a stand out product really feel high end. That said, I love the one x. Its gorgeous in white, and that polycarbonate body is a-mazing. HTC's main design studio (called one&co) is in America right in SF.
Maybe we'll get a new design for the US this time around, too. That would be awesome. I still like the design now, but I agree, the Cappy > all other SGS designs.

This is what I'm hoping for. I probably get it either way, but damnit, the design of our captivates are just so superior. I love the way the battery cover is held in and the overall symmetry of the device (no extra thickness on one end of the phone, camera is flush with the device etc).
Honestly I would be happy if I could shove all of the SGS3 hardware & features into my captivate and keep it for two more years. Probably would have to scale it up a bit to make room for that 4.8" display though lol.

I agree the captivate has a great unique design. I just wish it comes in silver or light metallic color...

Hope AT&T can do the magic on the GS III, like they did with the Captivate. At least from what I see, all Samsung phones on US Carriers have capacitive touch button instead of plastic one so we can get rid of that ugly home button on the GS III.
Agreed!!! The design very unique and very rare in my country. Till now, every time I take out my phone people will impress. And we're lucky to have great developer still develop great rom for us.
Credit to vibrant turk. Love ur rom.

Have to agree the cappy has its uniqueness to it that makes it stand out from the rest. And the fact I'm running cm9 nightly I'm satisfied for my Android needs as of now! Just wish it would have gotten flash like the fascinate only thing I don't like about cappy.

Oh lol. Well, yeah, that's a valid point.

camera flash etc
even cheapest soapbox camera will beat any camera on the phone. zoom? aperture? exposure? notably absent.
My Captivate went through the washing machine. On month 4 of my 24 month contract.
Disassembled as much as I could, dried it out for a few days, and it powered up like a charm. Even made phone calls and data, but the battery died in an hour. Replaced the battery and all works well, with the exception of WiFi and Bluetooth. Tried to get it fixed, but several repair folk told me that the wifi and BT chip are part of the board and could not be replaced. 3 of these repair shops told me that it's only a matter of time before the phone stops working. Well, that was well over a year ago and the Cappy is still going strong.
Will be replacing it soon enough with a no-contract Galaxy Nexus. It was good while it lasted
The Captivate is by far the best phone I've ever owned because of all the before mentioned things... design, and development... wish it had an led flash as well, but still the best phone ive ever owned....
It's design is different and it doesn't feel "cheap" but I don't think that's worth losing the LED flash, front facing camera and FM Radio (even access to more custom ROMs). Just saying

I have to agree. I have a galaxy s 3 now because my cappy is on its last legs, but I loved the design of that phone. While I do like the design of the gs3 too sometimes I wish it was designed a little more like the captivate or something like that.
Ah well, maybe we'll see something like it appearing in the future. I hope so at least.

Size-wise, I think it is a great phone. All the newer Android models seem to get larger and larger, but I think for my purposes, it does not need to get any bigger.
Plus, the amount of attention in development that this phone gets is amazing. I am happy I bought one!
