Wrong thread
i found these instructions elsewhere to upgarde the nexus s to ice cream sandwich..??will it work
•Grab the OTA package here
•Rename it to update.zip. This isn't needed for the Nexus S bootloader, but it makes things easy, if that's how you prefer them.
•Copy it over to the internal storage on your Nexus S.
•Power off, then hold volume up and power to reboot to the bootloader.
•Using the volume key to navigate, select recovery, then use the power button to confirm
•When you see the warning triangle and arrow, hold the power button and tap volume up. You'll see a menu.
•From the menu, select "apply update from /sdcard", and choose update.zip from the list.
•Let it do its thing and update your system, radio, and other partitions. When finished, choose "reboot system now"

I was able to root by simply step 1 download.ing the PC36IG.zip to the phone. Sept two I used androzip (get it from market) to movie the PC36IG.Zip to your SD card. You do this by going into android.zip go to downloads and long press on the pc36ig.zip scroll down and select move. Use your back arrow to get out of downloads and click move here. Step 3 turn off the phone then turn it back on and hold down vol down. Phone should try to install it but it will fail but turn it off and turn back on holding down vol down. This time it should go through. Once phone booted back up I was on 2.1update. Step 4 I used unrevocked3 to root and then I installed a custom fresh 2.2 Rom. I did this on my Evo running stock ota 2.2. This worked and was lot more simple to do. P.s make sure u install the drivers for unrevocked when rooting
Has anyone else verified this yet?

Also possible he had a replacement from sprint that was previously rooted and then updated to the stock 2.2 before it was returned but still had the hacked bootloader and such on it.
Verfied that this **** dont work... tried it several times ... keep getting the error "Main Version is older" ... this guys evo is probably rooted already or hes just trying to get some guinea pigs to test out his theory...
Hello all,
I have spoken to HTC UK about when I might get the OTA update. Based on my phone's IMEI, they said it would get HTC Sense 3.5 and Android 2.3.5, but could not say when. It sounded like, with this being a best selling phone and many phones to update, it could be a long wait.
So my questions are:
A) Has someone "captured" the official HTC file(s) that go OTA and posted them so I can download and install myself?
B) If this is not possible, what is the most stable ROM to choose to get this update? Not looking for bleeding edge improvements - more interested in getting the update on a rock solid foundation (or as solid as OSs ever are!). I can head over to the other section on this forum, once people have made suggestions, preferably based on continued use and actual experience of the ROM they propose. (not just, installed it for a couple of days and then moved on).
Best wishes to all.
Andrew
First - there is no official Sense 3.5 released for Desire S. The latest update is to Sense 3.0 and Android 2.3.5.
Second - there is a thread called "Desire S shipped ROM" in the Android Development subforum (you can find a link in the Index thread there). There you can find the latest OTA packed as RUU. However, it is not recommended to use it if your device is branded. Better wait for an official update (it was promised to be out until the mid of December, but even later it should not take too long)
Third - there are plenty of Sense 3.0 and even ported Sense 3.5 ROMs in the above mentioned Index thread, just pick some and go through the comments then decide for yourself. The devs here are doing well, so most of the ROMs are suitable for daily use.
Good luck

If you are using the European unbranded version there has to be an OTA update for you to the latest version.
I had the same problem - was not receiving an update notification, then the online HTC support guy told me to make my system date to 29 September 2011. Then I got the notification immediately and the phone was updated to 2.10.401.8.
Try this it may work for you too
If no joy you can find the 1.47.401.4 -> 2.10.401.8 update here
Rename to update.zip, copy to SDcard and install from Recovery. (Check in your Settings -> About phone -> Software info that your current version is 1.47.401.4 before doing this)
Remember: if you have any modification, e.g. S-OFF, custom Recovery, etc first restore to complete Stock and S-ON then do the update!

I suppose that you have tried the system date change without success. Type in dialer *#*#2432546#*#* and check again. Then change the date to June/July/August and try again. Use WiFi
If no update notification still I have extracted the rom.zip from 1.47.401.4 RUU for you. Download it from here
Rename to PG88IMG.zip, copy to SDcard, reboot the phone to bootloader (power off the phone then press VOL DOWN, do not let go press , hold and release POWER button) and enter the hboot. Keep in mind that this procedure can delete your data, so backup your contacts, calendar and messages. Also make a list of your apps to reinstall later. Delete the PG88IMG.zip from your card when update is complete.
When you apply this update check again from the phone settings for an update. If still no notification follow the procedure from my previous post. To enter recovery use the same button combination as for bootloader, then select Recovery from the bootloader menu. If you have a picture on a black background press VOL UP + POWER and choose "Apply update from sdcard". This should get your phone to 2.10.401.8.

Tried this so am now moving onto stage 2. Thanks very much for the link to the "interim upgrade" file. 249mb downloading now (15 minutes on my cable line).
EDIT:
Excellent. I followed your instructions. The phone cycled though to HBOOT screens, I guess 2 stages to the update process and now reboots to 1.47.401.4.
I am now downloading the next update (6 minutes left!). Exciting. I wish HTC would allow for a update server to save you good people from newbies like me asking dumb questions.
Just in case check again for an update from your phone Settings (changing the data also and the code in dialer). This is the longer route but is the better way because should update your system straight to the latest version.

This is great and the best way to go! Much better than the manual flashing.
And since it it the latest version you should receive a notification for the next updates coming (I hope that we will see Android 4 ICS on our devices the next year)
Congratulations and enjoy your latest Sense
I think we will be very lucky to get an ICS update officially OTA from HTC next year or ever . . . . but I will trust your prediction!
All done. Worth the effort to get all these little improvements.

Hello to all.
just got my new Nexus S. Had a sgs before and got stolen..
My question is the following:
When i booted the phone it had the gb 2.3.4 and after i made a search for update it said i am currently up to date...
I know that 2.3.6 came to Greece some weeks ago so i should be able to get it if not ICS.
Any thoughts?
On about phone --> model - nexus s
android version - 2.3.4
baseband version - I9023XXKD1 [email protected]
build number - GRJ22
On Fastboot mode --> product name - hearing
hw version - rev 52
bootloader version - I9020XXKA3
baseband version - I9020XXKD1 [email protected]
Furthermore i would like to now which model i have , I9020 or I9023? On the back of the phone when i remove the battery it says I9023..
thank you all
You have the i9023 version. Mine is also s-lcd and in fastboot it said 9020, so it's normal. You can grab the 2.3.6 update and flash it through custom/normal revovery from one of the sticky posts in General Section. There are threads here that help you in doing that.
After that you could also upgrade to ICS in the same way. Happy flashing!

Well it could take some time from activating the device until getting the update notification. You should get it eventually.
If it's one of the official updates from Google I don't think you need an unlocked bootloader, but I'm not that sure (when I tried it, I had an unlocked bootloader). Download the OTA package from here, put it in the root of your usb drive (not in any folder). Be sure to download the proper version for you -the i9023- then:
-turn the phone off
-press and hold (at the same time) Volume Up+Power Button
-scroll with the volume buttons to "Recovery" and select it by pressing the power button
-here, if you only see a triangle and an android, press volume up and a menu should appear
-you should see an "apply update from sdcard" or something simillar. Select it, then chose your OTA .zip file
-when it's done, reboot and you're good to go
Note: If you get an error stating something like "Could not verify signature" it means the file may be corrupt download it again and start over. If you get an error saying "Version verification failed" you downloaded the wrong file.
Normally, when flashing a new rom it's necessary to wipe dalvik, cache etc. But I applied the 4.0.3 OTA over stock 2.3.6, through the built-in recovery, with no problem whatsoever.
EDIT: I also chose the Nexus S over the SGS and I can say there are no regrets. I'm loving my phone and if there's any question, the solution is most likely here on xda. Great developers and community for the NS
manually updated...and it rocks...thnks!
You're very welcome! Enjoy your Nexus S

Hello I hope you guys can help me.
So I decided to get a Nexus S about 2 weeks ago, 1st one I had I upgraded straight to 4.0.3 ICS. Ran well except from poor available RAM and the dreaded back button issue. Finally had the handset replaced with a (seemingly) full working handset.
However I notice my android version is 2.3.1. To be honest I only want official upgrades to avoid any problems with warranty. So I check for software and apparently this is the latest version. I know this isn't true...
Please help me or offer some advice on what to do. I did search for this query but I couldn't find any recent posts regarding this.
Many thanks.
Google pulled the ics 4.0.3 update due some issues. But somewhere this month we will get the 4.0.5 ota, so dont worry

Thank you for your prompt reply,
Even if I'm currently running on 2.3.1 will my phone automatically go straight to 4.0.5?
Thank you
hi there,
you have two options:
1. as per prev post, wait until you get 4.0.5 OTA sometime this month
2. or if you do not want to stay on 2.3.1, you can check this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445570
it has all official updates from 2.3.1 up until ICS 4.0.3
all you need to do, is download the incremental package you want,
boot into recovery (3e) and install zip from sdcard.
the choice is yours.
good luck

Yes, but you can at least update to 2.3.6 using the manual method. Just find which model of the Nexus S you have, and download the update file for your phone here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063664 and then just boot into recovery and browse to the update zip you downloaded.
Using the manual method is safe and doesn't require unlocking or rooting your phone.

Agree. 2.3.6 is better than 2.3.1. And its 100% safe to it the way he explained. The zip you will download is unrooted so you still will be fully stock

A leak is available on QA server (master-qa1.blurdev.com) - if any one is active please download. Will upload the files shortly.
Update Files:
Update files will be available under the following folder -
https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0Bw_GlllN6a_WVHViaEZ5UWlFZ2M/edit
ICS.672.1.12.en.03.7z (07/08/2012)
ICS.672.1.13.en.03.7z (07/14/2012)
ICS.672.1.16.en.03.7z (07/29/2012)
ICS.672.1.17.en.03.7z (08/18/2012)
ICS.672.1.18.en.03.zip (08/27/2012)
Installing SEARET:
(You only need to do this, if you are not already SEARET version and ICS update is failing because of signature error or assertions)
(You need to use RSD Lite to flash these, these are NOT update .zip files flashable through any recovery mode)
Install the stock image file 5.5.1-EDEM-28-37-SEARET_cfc.xml.zip from here using Motorola RSD Lite (google around to figure out how to use the RSD Lite)
Once the installation is complete the phone should boot up in 55.28.37.MB865.AsiaRetail.en.03
If you are using an older version of SBF file (5.5.1-EDEM-27-SEARET_cfc.xml.zip), you'll need to use the "System Update" to update to the latest SEARET
Update to ICS:
(Before starting with these steps make sure to take a backup of your data using Titanium Backup or any other tool. Make sure your phone is charged at least to 50%)
Download the latest ICS update file from here (.7z)
Extract the 7z file - you should find .zip and a CRC file (mysteriously the CRC in this file never matches the image file)
Copy the .zip file onto your SD Card (.zip will be named after the version for which the update is applicable)
Boot into the stock recovery mode
Shut down by pressing the power button
Power up by holding down both the Vol Up + Down buttons and pressing power button
This should get you to "Boot Mode Selection Menu"
Press Vol Down button till you reach the "Recovery"
Select "Recovery" mode by pressing Vol Up button
This should take you to Recovery mode (little Android with a warning sign)
Once you are here, press both the Vol Up + Down buttons to get the recovery menu
Select the "apply update from sd card" option and choose the update file you just copied (use Vol Up/Down to move the selection and power button to select folder/file)
Let the patching/update complete (will take about 5-10min)
Reboot once the update complete (you should boot into ICS version)
Note:
If you are seeing signature errors or assertions that means either you do not have an MB865 or you have installed a custom recovery (such as ClockWork Mod) - installing SEARET using RSD Lite as mentioned above is the simplest way to fix this (though I'm sure there are right ways to do this, I'm not sure though)
You might want to do Wipe Data + Cache at the recovery before and after the ICS update - just to avoid any issues
Rooting ICS:
(You would need to root only if you want to remove any bloatware)
Download Razr4.0.4ROOT.zip from this post
Connect the phone with USB Debugging enabled (option is available under developer section in the settings)
Run the ROOT.bat file (phone will reboot a couple of times)
Warning:
System Update/Cheesecake/Auto-cheesecake will not work after this update (so, in other words you are stuck with this leak)
To update to the latest ICS or to find more leaks, you'll have to downgrade to SEARET (as far as I understand the updates/leaks will only apply to phones with SEARET version, update from previous leak to latest update is not possible)
UPDATE-1:
Update files will be available under the following folder -
https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0Bw_GlllN6a_WVHViaEZ5UWlFZ2M/edit
ICS.672.1.12.en.03.7z (07/08/2012)
UPDATE-2:
I was able to flash this successfully on my MB865 (Indian Version, Non AT&T) after flashing SEARET files from here and allowing the OTA update to 2.3.6. Flashed using the stock recovery. I was also able to successfully root using the Razr4.0.4ROOT.zip from this post.
UPDATE-2:

UPDATE-3:

huh?? wat wat wat?
Is this ICS update for international MB865?
Can AT&T apply this update?
I'm on a non AT&T MB865 (Indian Version).
But the updates are not going through for me, you might want to give it a try.
Try cheesecake with master-qa1.blurdev.com server.
ATM master-qa1 is empty (for the AT&T A2 at least) . Thanks a lot for the heads-up but what we really need is people using AT&T ROMs checking cheesecake like crazy until we find something like this except for AT&T.
This goes to show that Moto is still sometimes pushing updates to their servers, so we just have to keep on checking.

As I understand it, until a dev finds a way to make it work on the US AT&T version of the Atrix 2, it's a good idea to just avoid anything that anybody says, at least that's the track I'm taking. Yes, I want an ICE CREAM SANDWICH too (doesn't everybody? ) but I'll remain patient till either a) a talented dev from around here or wherever drops a working functional AT&T-ready and compatible ICS ROM or b) Motorola gives it up themselves.
I've been doing ROM swaps for nearly a decade now on several hundred devices and I swear to some higher power, I'm sick to death of doing it, I want a solid reliable ICS ROM and if I have to wait another 6 months to get it, so be it. Running Remus v2.0 right now and it hasn't given me anything but stability and it's awesome.
I only hope ICS for the Atrix 2 can match it.
So, my advice is just wait, be patient, and we'll get it at some point - "we" meaning those of us with the AT&T Atrix 2, that is.
Is it ironic that in almost all situations with respect to consumer electronics the US has the favored hand, but when it comes to cell phones we end up getting shafted to some degree with updates like that? How very odd... guess the Atrix 2 is more popular in other parts of the world, who knows.

It is the carriers that hold it up and screw it up. In the US they have too much power.
