[Q] What is the latest OTA for Skyrocket? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I am still on 2.3.5 but I see a lot of discussion about 2.3.6. Is AT&T actively rolling out 2.3.6 OTA or are these leaked builds?

Been out awhile my man early november...and it was OTA not a build

So why the F*** wont mine update...I have checked several times since I got the phone on Wednesday, says no update available. Not that it really matters, my phone works perfect, but damn it I gots to have the latest version!

The AT&T 2.3.6 OTA was rolled out in NOV, but AT&T pulled the OTA after a few days (speculation there was a problem with it). If you plan on rooting the I727 Skyrocket, you're better off with 2.3.5 as it is much easier to root than 2.3.6

Ahh, ok. Thanks for the info. I plan to root my phone soon so i can de-bloat and other stuff, but probably wont put on a new ROM quite yet.

Nope no problens at all with it. Att said they only sent the update to people who needed it. But it is actually better then 2.3.5 and fixes voice search. Ive been runing it since it was pushed and i love it ( also was said to have touchscreen improvements) . I would recomend that you flasg a 2.3.6 rom, and flash the kk1 baseband

Since AT&T has pulled the latest 2.3.6 update does anyone know when they will put it back up?

[Q] Anything we need to do before the update rolls out?

My phone's currently rooted (running CM7 if that matters). Since the OTA update for Sprint is supposed to start rolling out this Monday, is there anything I need to do in order to receive the update?
Will I need to unroot?
Is there some manual way of checking for the update on custom ROMs?

I have raised this question on two threads. I used Mikeyinid's rom for awhile and now have Oxygen rom and I have asked in both threads what would be done. People have told me that an update.zip would be released or the rom itself would be upgraded. Just keep your eye on your respective rom's thread and the developer should get everyone taken care of. As soon as the first member of this site gets the OTA, you know it will be posted and then applied to all the roms/kernels lol. We wont have to do anything but reboot to recovery and flash knowing these guys. I give it a few hours after it starts rolling out before they have it locked in lol

That actually makes a lot of sense! Thanks for the answer!
Honestly most of the fixes are gonna be in the radio. Personally I don't even care about the 2.3.5 stuff or whatever else is included. I just want to flash the new radio the second its available and I will happily wait for ROMs to the be updated from that point on
yea, all i care about is the radio too....GB reminds me if vista, everytime they fix a problem, it changes...2.3 2.3.2 2.3.3 2.3.4 ..... 2.3.5? just fix my radio and send me 4.0 !

Do I want the 2.3.6 update?

I just got my Skyrocket and tried to get the update to 2.3.6. However, my phone says that I have the latest version of Android. Did AT&T stop the OTA updates?
Also, I read somewhere on this forum that you can't do the One-click or easy root if you're on 2.3.6.
I'm very new to all of this. So the questions are: do I want/need the 2.3.6 update and should I apply this update?

Only update you need is ICS and I believe Att&t pulled the 2.3.6 update...
Thanks. My next decision to make is how to root this baby and whether or not I should go with one of the custom ROMs.
What's the easiest way to root the Skyrocket? Can it be unrooted in case I want to return or exchange it? What's the slickest ROM to use right now (I recently read about Mervin's)? What do I need to do in order to ensure I can go back to stock 2.3.5 when I want to?
Sorry for all the questions. I've been reading a lot, but much of it is over my head. The only thing I've rooted before is my nook, and I downloaded a custom ROM with STEP-BY-STEP instructions that a child could follow. It worked great, but I have very little understanding about what I actually did.
My skyrocket updated to 2.3.6, and I have tried a couple of the one click root methods, and they dont seem to be working for me. I don't know if thats just me, my specific phone, or the fact that it upgraded to 2.3.6. I don't see any difference between 2.3.5 and 2.3.6, so I might avoid it for the moment and use the one click root methods. Those will let you unroot too if you want to upgrade to ICS or such when they become available.
On that note, anyone know how to root 2.3.6?
Use Odin root method from dev. section.

Thanks. What's the benefit of this method over easy root?
Yeah, I'm aware of the Odin method. But its def not as user friendly. Seeing as I don't know alot about how it works, and since no one seems to agree about if it triggers the ROM counter, I was hoping there was a simpler way. Dumb 2.3.6
If you're on 2.3.5, you can easily root with Shortfuse SuperOneClick 2.2 package... Then try to do the OTA 2.3.6. That's what I did and I didn't lose root after the 2.3.6 OTA. You need to be on stock 3e recovery (I was). I read a few folks couldn't take the 2.3.6 OTA when they had CWM Recovery.

It doesn't look like 2.3.6 is still available for OTA update.

If you're still on 2.3.5 I found THIS METHOD to work easily. Dont think it'll work on 2.3.6 though.
It's also got an UNROOT feature that may come in handy if you need to exchange your phone.

I don't see the update. Says my phone is current on 2.3.5
Did anyone ever figure out EXACTLY what 2.3.6 changed?
My first SR I updated to 2.3.6 but it developed a sleep death problem so I exchanged it.
My replacement is 2.3.5 and software update says it's current.
So the 2.3.6 update option is gone for me too.

Must have been issues with it, and AT&T pulled it.
Also, I've never had SoD problems.... that's weird, maybe I just got lucky.

My original also locked up, crashed, rebooted a couple times for no apparent reason either. So something was wrong with it, no doubt.
My replacement hasn't done any of that stuff...... yet.
So far so good. Knock on wood, crossing fingers, etc etc...

To answer your question, for me the 2.3.6 GPS performance is much improved from 2.3.5 (and I thought 2.3.5 was already good!). After upgrading to 2.3.6, my I727-SR started recognizing(In View) 23 satellites and locking 13, with accuracy to 9ft, within 4 seconds... crazy fast and accurate.
No 2.3.6 OTA for me either, newly acquired SR on Dec 6, 2011.
Does anyone know why the OTA update was pulled? Or how to get an answer to this?
I'm running Alien 4 based on KK1 2.3.6 and it is running great aside from some issues with Bluetooth in my car. Call quality is improved and data speeds are much faster.
2.3.6 was buggy.
I use my SGSII for support for my company. We have an Exchange server for Email (Outlook) and use Outlook 365 profiles now. By policy, for security reasons, only administrators have web access, we can access Email through our secure devices - meaning corporate laptops and our cell phones (which are secured via Exchange policies).
The 2.3.6 update broke the Exchange Email support entirely, if you are an Outlook 365 user at minimum.
This is all devices running 2.3.6.
My skyrocket updated to 2.3.6, and I haven't had any issues (there is a funny bug in auto brightness at 10% battery, but thats all I've noticed). It has always seemed stable to me. Some people have speculated that the update was for specific phones (with certain IMEI codes) instead of pulling the update for issues.

[Q] Recieving OTA?

I had ICS b4 but just to experiment i install 2.3.3 and now there is not OTA to 2.3.6 ... i remember that b4 when i installed 2.3.3 i received the 2.3.6 OTA almost instantly .. also i saw the news that google turned OTA's off for the nexus is that why i didn't receive the update ?
Nothing to do with google OTA turning off, i'm not actually sure why many people report they aren't receiving 2.3.3 --> 2.3.6 OTA updates though.
In any case, go here and grab your particular 2.3.3 --> 2.3.6 incremental update and you can flash it through stock recovery (no need to wipe anything). Just remember you can't go down a version without root/unlocked bootloader.
Yup did that right after posting here ... after that didn't got the ICS update so just rooted and install stock ics =P
Who said Google stoped anything ????
ICS OTA is stil flowing til this moment ... When I flashed GB back I was annoyed with the notification of ICS OTA jumping infront of me every minute ...
When ICS first dropped i got the notification in about 5 days .. and now i didn't receive GB update nor the ICS update installed manually here.
Got rid of my nexus just before ics came out. no regrets though

Sold my nexus a few days ago ... now gonna go for Gnex or S2

[Q]Just got a Nexus S

Just got a Nexus S for school and from what I can tell there is supposed to be an ICS OTA update but its not finding it.
It's currently on 2.3.6 and it doesn't have a SIM (University property, I only get to use it for development) so I'm only on wifi. Does anyone know why it won't update to ICS? I don't want to download the .zip because there are about 10 other people who are in the class and I don't want to try to explain to them how to update.
Its not official out yet as far as I'm aware (I have a nexus s 4g though and am not to sure about the other models...) Have you tried settings/about phone/system update!

Yeah. It says its up to date on 2.3.6. I just thought that ICS was official.
google hasn't pushed the ics update for i9020A
The ICS update for the NEXUS S has been slated for sometime in MARCH. The OTA update is what I'm talking about. —KID ANDROID
Yea google is really slacking with the i9020a OTA... thank goodness for the xda-devs though the roms here are better anyways
According to the Google Announcment they had been halted the ICS update For the Nexus s . Firlst they said ICS update will be on 2011 December 16.But For Some Some reason They had halted the updating processes of the Nexus s
But Their Lot of Unofficial Custom roms If you want to taste the ICS You can try them
I think this will helpful for you
Thanks all. Does anyone know if the ota located here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1395828
is for i9020a and will it receive OTAs in the future?
i m using nexus s i9023 and i already got an update in decmbr..
cant say about i9020a.
If you just bought your Nexus S then updating your handset with something other than the official ota update will void your warranty. I'd just wait till the update comes ota in MARCH which will be 4.0.5 I'm sure it will be worth the wait as I've heard they have fixed everything that was wrong and added a couple new things to it. We've waited this long, what's a couple more weeks. —KID ANDROID

I recieved a message from ATT June 25th, about an update. Nothing happened as I'm running cyanowiz. Waiting for a developer to get his hands on ATT skyrocket and make cm9 available. I have no interest in flashing back to stock just to have the new icecream sandwich and the bloatware that comes with it. I like being able to wifi hotspot without changing my plan.
Hey silver, I have an official att I727UCLA3 modem in the phone and haven't gone flash crazy. Took the modem as part of an OTA update.

Umm, why did you bump this, has nothing to do with the OP.
Two, Skyrocket has had CM9 for ages, and is even official with CM9 now.
