[Q] CM7 change sliding tab text - General Questions and Answers

Hi, everyone. I have CM7.1 installed on my Droid Incredible. For the lock screen, I'm using the sliding tab option. When I slide the unlock tab, it says "unlock" on it. I was wondering if anyone knew how to change the size of that text, and what it says. I was looking at the framework-res.apk, and I found images for the tab, but nothing on what the tab says. Anyone have any ideas?

I have done it before, but don't remember exactly how. I am pretty sure that I used root explorer to edit the file. I would search for you, but, i am running ICS right now. Please let me know if this helped.
Later this week, i will install CM7 stock, if no one else is able to help you.

I figured that there was a file to edit, but I'm not sure what it's called, or where to look.

Modding Revolution from RetroKid for Mesmerize

Hi All,
I've been trying to figure out how to theme by taking a theme apart and then comparing stuff to my phone. I got "most" of the Revolution Theme working properly on my Mez. It was taken from the Fascinate Theme Thread...
The only thing that I've found that has a force close is trying to go into sound settings...
Anyone know where that file is in the theme pack that I need to change?
I've attached a screen shot for your review of what it looks like.
OK, I got it working. I had to pull out my Settings.apk, make the changes to it and then put it back into the package. Seems to be working well now.
The only thing that hasn't changed that I want to change is the lock screen. Anyone know what files specifically need to be modded to change that?
Anyone interested in trying it out? Remember to do a backup before giving this a try!
I'm running SuperClean .2 with a voodoo kernel as a reference point
Put it on the root of your SDcard and then boot into clockwork and choose install Retrokid_Revolution_DJ05_V3.6.mez.zip.

I'll give it a go.
As a point of reference:
Variant of the voodoo kernal
Pick-n-Pack rom
Hope you like it. I have to figure out how to fix the lock screen though.

I'll be looking at it too, as this goes along with what I'm doing while I'm on vacation anyway. I am not 100% sure, but I think the lock screen and a few other things that you are going to want, are going to be in the framework.res.
Another note, this uses aosp mms.apk which has a problem still with sending and receiving picture messages.
I got it installed. (Sorry it took so long, I didn't realize I was at 3% battery when I posted)
Installed with no issues, however I'm getting a big difference in the battery meter. My widget says 65%, the rpm battery gauge says 80%.
Also, it reinstalled Mail, which I had taken off in the Pick-n-Pack. Was that in the zip?
Yes, mail was included as one if the customized apps. Hmmm, you didn't want mail? Not sure how to remove that. Do you liked it? I live the font and different icon scheme.
The mms its a problem but I was going that once it got fixed that I'd be able to update it.

I unzipped it, system-app, and took out the programs I didn't like. All in all it looks pretty good. I will use it again when the mms issue is fixed (I send A LOT of picture messages)
Updated File - Screenshots
Got it perfect now. I didn't like the battery meter in the first try.
Check it out

Just as a thought, you might want to change the name slightly. The DJ05 part of the name has to do with the release version. The Mesmerize is currently on DI14. Nothing critical right now, just confusing if and when we start getting updates and things need to be changed for themes to work with different ROMs.
Great work, btw. Glad to see others are working on stuff for the Mesmerize.
Good point. I'll make the change to the file name.
Thanks!
So, in order to install this all I need to do is flash it in clockworkmod recovery after booting in recovery mode? I almost have this flashing down, but haven't tried a theme yet...

Yes, make a backup using Clockwork or Rom Manager first, then boot into Clockwork recovery. Scroll to Install from zip. Select "Choose zip" then navigate to it on your SD card. Select it and it will install. Let me know how you like it.
I will for sure, thanks man.

Dude this is awesome! I love the notification bar (transparency, GPS/wifi/etc icons, black, signal & battle icons), and the font, and the way the texting looks (even though I only use Google voice) and the search bar, and stars and checkmarks, and loading icon.
A couple issues I have with it though:
+When you hit the menu button, its impossible to read the black text on the black background the text should be white or grey I think
+ the battery meter isn't very accurate (according to "battery status"). I would love if the battery could be more accurate, because the app I have right now has almost the same icon for telling how full the batt is (only yours looks way cooler, and its on the other side of the notif bar, which I like)
+Then the last thing is this font, which I think there's something I can do to fix. I like the font on my keyboard and in menus and stuff, but I don't really want it on every webpage and text. I use dolphin browser, you know what I could do?
Last thing, is it possible to make Google voice look like the normal texting app, or different in any way? I'm not a huge fan if the way it is now.
Overall I really like it, and I'm keeping it : ) thanks!

Trying this out on my Super Clean .3 rom with voodoo kernel.
Can confirm that this works and is sexy; I agree with the three gripes above though. Can't read the menu buttons, battery isn't perfect, and the font is a bit annoying. If possible the status bar might look a little better with a slight gradient, though that might just be the wallpaper or whatever. Overall, this is a good theme.
-herpderp-
A couple more spots I've noticed the font is a hard color...
-android keyboard, white squares appear above the letters you press with no letters in them.
-on notification bar, most apps have white text and is a bit difficult to read on grey background.
-theres another one that I forgot where now....
And since I flashed this my YouTube isn't working, and I can't download from mediafire.... haha I think that might be a fluke, but Its weird: s

Genie widget

Hello. So I just got my skyrocket last night and straight out of the box I rooted it and got cwm as well as sky ics installed. Wow. Awesome experience so far.
Anyway. Not having any trouble except for one thing. I cant get my genie news and weather widget to work. I've got the apk for the transparent one which I prefer. I drop in system/app/ , change permissions, Install successfully, but when I go to add the widget to my home screen it just force closes. Any ideas? Maybe I'm using the wrong apk for this device? Anyone have the right one? Idk. Just need some help I guess.
Thank ya!

Here is the one I use. Your steps look correct, just make sure you've also tried re-booting the phone.
Here's the one from CM10. Just install as normal apk.

The sickly green color HTC used in the UI

HTC provided quite a few skins for this phone which I'm grateful for and combing the Matte skin with Apex is close to giving me the benefits of both ICS and Sense 4.0 looks (the Matte skin uses what appears to be the/a close representation of the ICS blue). Unfortunately, for whatever reason, HTC decided to leave a certain disgusting looking green present in its default menu/selection popup. Whats odd though, is that when you select something, it uses the blue from the Matte skin. HTC evidently didn't think this far through because there is no way those go together. What I was wondering was if anyone knows of where this green is, whether its a color code used somewhere (this is what I would expect) or an actual image. This is just very irritating to look at when it pop ups and really ruins the consistency of the phone IMO.
If your not sure what color I'm talking about long press on a photo and its that menu I'm referring to. The reason I think its just a color code is because the same green appears in the Root Explorer app at the top (thin line, right underneath the icon) so I would imagine the app is just referring to some default system color and using it to color that image. Could be totally wrong though and its just calling for an image that stretches to fill the space since its only a solid color.
Your solution would be to edit the systemui.apk and the framework-res.apk

I figured it was one of those two. I've only looked through the images contained in the SystemUI.apk file and didn't see anything that looked quite like the green bar. Guess I have to go through looking at the .xml files I'll check the framework-res.apk first thought and see if there's anything in there.
If I remember correctly, the images that are stretched in android are the png files that are the .9 images

Just change the skin type under the Personalize settings. Implements system wide changes for colors and everything.
root for this?

probably a dumb question, but do we need root access for this, or can I find other means of access? I have encryption mandated by my corporate administrators and I dont feel like decryption/factory resetting/rooting/editing and finding out that it's all for naught when my conpany re-encrypts so i can get my email. Also, please note i'm a noob and may have just said nonsensical things herein

You can't edit those without Root access You won't even be allowed to edit files in the /system directory without root.
So I looked in the framework-res.apk file and I found a lot of images that I believe are the green selectors I was referring to in the OP. The only problem, is I'm not sure of a perfect way to replace them (tried naming the original something weird, but then everything started crashing and needed to use adb to rename the file) and I'm not sure how good it will even look since it appears when you select something it uses several images to create a "light -> dark" type selection. I suppose I could edit the transparency of the files, but I don't know if it will be worth the effort. I might not even be doing the process correctly because I just rezipped my customized framework-res file and changed the extension from .zip to .apk. Is that even the proper thing to do?
Look at the second post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=869198
This is NOT a complete guide for our phones, but reading this will get you on the right track. I know about a bit of themeing, and can try to help you on the way.
i know this hasnt been seen or touched lately but can any one tell me where and what to edit/change to change the color of the green since i dont realy like it? if its possible

i know this post is fairly old now, but i too would love to know how id be able to change this fugly green color in messages. i have a coredroid theme zip that includes a nice blue message "bubble" but i would have no idea how to go about putting it in my current rom.

[MOD] Onscreen navigation / softkeys on CM9/10

It took me a few days to find a working flashable file to enable onscreen nav buttons but I finally found it. I did not make this mod. It was made for the gs2 international version, but works flawlessly on the skyrocket.
Can't post a hyperlink cause I'm new. Cut and paste into your browser instead:
db.tt/hxhJPdWS
Enjoy. It's also themeable

On the skyrocket?
...
Really?
Moved from ATT S2 to here
But why would we need this?
Also, fyi to anyone who's curious, if you're rooted, you can edit a file (I don't remember right now but if someone wants to know I can easily find out) to change our soft keys to basically any other function; so I changed the SEARCH softkey that I never use to the multi-task key.

[Q] Removing "Wi-Fi connected" ongoing notification?

Is there any way to remove the annoying "Wi-Fi connected"/"Connected to [SSID]" ongoing notification from the notifications pulldown? I can't find any setting for it, and I'm not exactly sure how to remove it. I saw that you can hide it, once per reboot/Wi-Fi toggle, but I would like to see it permanently gone. I am running rooted stock 4.1.2, so I figure that there is some way to do it.
(I can also post a screencap if that would help explain what I am talking about).
Decompile and remove it
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
Was looking for something a little more step-by-step than that. I don't know which APK has it, nor do I know exactly how to de/recompile, or how to remove the notification from there.
Try Google search
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
I already tried Googling, although I couldn't find anything that was different than a non-root, temporary fix that simply killed the settings app. I did find another fix, but it was for a Note II, and required replacing the settings APK with a new version - something I figured was a bad idea, seeing as how it's not for this phone/ROM.
I mean search for a guide on decompiling and editing. It's not hard, I do it all the time.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
I don't have the slightest as to which app it would be in, or what I am looking to remove. If I were to post the (correct) APK, would you be able to do it for me?
Thread moved to Q and A...
And, odds are the app you need to change is secsettings.apk
