Hi,
I have a tmobile wing flashed with touch-it 2.3. The JAVA midlet manager is part of the ROM, it is an old version and I would to install a newer version. My question is, if I install a newer version will the installation be similar as an upgrade on a desktop computer or will I have 2 different versions (I am not sure it this would cause some interaction problems that is why I have tried this yet)
Or Is there any way to remove a application included in a ROM?
Thanks!
not sure about the upgrade part .. i assume the program will auto know that a newer version is being installed and will remov old ver.
as far as removing from rom, by my knowledge, the only way to do that is by extracting the rom usind the kitchen for that rom and recompiling it with stuff u want .. for this however u need to hav chef permission and kitchen
I am new with the whole cooking/flashing world, so I am not sure about the cooking thing. I will have to read about this. I guess I will have to try the upgrade thing.
Well, I tried and instead of upgrading the existing the older version of the application I have 2. This is a bit annoying since I have to install it on my already very limited internal memory. Is there ANY way to go around this, either by actually writing over the older version or removing it?
Help please!
I think that this forum is a total mess with different recoveryfiles and troubles. We need someone with the knowledge to create a guide/wiki/information page which covers the different recovery files, what's needed for what etc.
Myself I am on a Vodafone with the latest updated original software. Can I backup EVERYTHING (including my recovery) before I start playing with the phone? A lot of ppl seems to be having troubles and I don't want to move into something potentially non working without being able to revert back to original. Or perhaps the recovery image that I have already is available? And then I can just flash with X (what recovery is recommended now) and install for example ION.
I'm not without computer knowledge but this forum is in such a mess that I'm not even sure what's happening
after flashing almost all ROMs from this forum i decided to stick with smartphone france firmware (http://wiki.smartphonefrance.info/firmware-htcmagic.ashx, recovery included). it loads fast, include all recent ota updates, and maintained. You can back up your current phone firmware + data by booting custom recovery image and using nandroid backup and later go back to that backed up state if you wish.

This firmware come with English Langage
I don't include UK APN because i don't know them.
And the Wiki is only available in french ... the only one langage i can read and write easyly
come on. use translate.google.com
In that case, in a nutshell, how does it differ from the standard Google/Vodafone ROM? App variations/addions etc?
Is it possible to restore my texts/mms?
Cheers for any info!
As far as i can see, PDF Viewer, ANetShare is included.
I'm using MyBackup for backup and restore all my links Sms, MMS ... quit good.
I like it a lot and it seems to me that is running smooth and fast enought, just give it a try.
Cheers,
Dirk
May do just that, cheers for the info, diRm!
Web page in french : http://wiki.smartphonefrance.info/firmware-htcmagic.ashx
Ameliorations :
- Use JF Kernel for network functionalities
- Add Bluetooth PAN for use as Bluetooth MODEM
- Based on CRB43 Firmware
- Add somes utilities (aNetShare, PDFView, SuperUser Permission, ...)
- Rooted Boot
- Increase Volume
- MultiTouch Browser
- ...
Isn't it better to base the software on I.O.N instead? Since it obviously is faster than CRB43.
@spfrance,
which locale has your ROM integrated? I need german

yes same question?????
So far my phone only likes the default Vodafone ROM and the Ion ROM.
Tried Haykuro's 6.0 and no this Smartphone France firmware, both leave my phone stuck at splash1 indefinately.
My magic is rooted and I can access the restore utility by holding home and power. Any idea why this could be?
Have you tried WIPE before update???
Yes, I wiped before updating. I have also tried wiping after updating..
I have now wiped again and restored to the Ion ROM, phone boots fine.
ION work good on mine to,just the in-call audio problem!!!
is this Magic_13 faster or slover then ION?can anyone say?
I did extract the PDF VIEWER apk from the app folder in the magic_13 zip file, installed to my running ION and the app dont work, damed
How to have Chinese Input like the original ROM?
After I flashed to Custom ROM.. The chinese input was gone.
Anyone know how to get that back?
Thanks.
Check out Flashmore's rom which has Chinese SIP cooked in. His rom very fast and stable after trying all the current roms. You might want to take a look. I believe you can add those files by cab. Unless you install other apps like CeStar.

Need Stock ROM for XT720 - STR_U2_02.1E.0 ,
Firmware configuration version GAS_EMEA_UCASHOTBRTLRTEU_P019,
Baseband version 3GSMEPU91A_U_91.07.5BI,
Baseband configuraton version UCASHLSTABB1B4DEMA039.0R,
Kernel version 2.6.29-omap1
Moto was bought from Amazon Germany.
Links are not mirrored, only working link is some version for Korea.
Thanks a lot!
Look here.
Thanks ALOT! There are so many threads i have no time and nerves to read them all, besides, my 3-year-old boy keeps pressing F1 on my keyboard ... .
Hope download link is the one I look for, i think Central Europe is best for my XT720. When I am done flashing I make another note here!
I put "French_STR_U2_02.1E.0_SIGNED_UCASHLSTABB1B4DEMA039.0R_UCASHOTBRTLRTFR_P018_A009_HWp3_1FF" with RSD Lite v4.9, all well, but no change on my phone.
I accidentally deleted some files from /sdcard, containing MotoNav files also. Now i cannot use Motonav anymore nore install iGo MyWay on phone.
Do i have to erase all data on phone? Wipe all?

flashing with rds should have cleared everything on the phone and also the contents of the SD card have nothing to do with the stock ROM...
Right, i noticed after flashing. It was my first flash!!! But, still nothing changed in the configuration of the phone. Like I said, i accidentally erased some files from MotoNav app, so every time I try to start it, it says "Please insert MotoNav SD card". Can I repair that? Also this is the cause I cannot install iGo MyWay on the XT720. Any good advice on that?
sir, you can get the apps <h**p://w**.motorola.com/motoextras/mobile/sw37/Motonav.apk> and sdcard content <h**p://w**.motorola.com/staticfiles/Support/DE-DE/motonav/sdcard/motonav.zip>.....60 days trial only....
If you're looking for navigation this might be of interest.
Sir, you are wounderful! THANKS!
First link is some Motonav folder archive, incomplete.
Second is the full Motonav app and restored my missing files!
Still no stock rom to flash my Moto to the original state.

Thanks. Can you provide the HK rom?
Hello,
I updated my HTC Trophy using Seven Eighter. While the update itself went fine, I've missed some language packs as my system menus won't open. The Office WP7 Updates thread is an excellent resource, but at this point I'm having trouble determining which language packs I actually need to push to the phone. I've seen Heathcliffs tool 'Version and Language by Heathcliff74.xap', but don't know how to get it to and run on my phone.
According to Zune (the only way I can seem to retrieve version info), my phone is at version 7.10 (8862).
I tried the Seven Eighter support tool, but it fails every time I attempt to send languages over. I tried just downloading and sending over every language cab update, but of course that failed as well.
Any tips/pointers/links someone can share to help me out?
Thanks,
Tim
What version was in your phone before you use Seven Eighter?
What is your current language?
many people reports problems after use seveneighter...
which ROM you have before use seveneighter?
dont have trophy but advice you to flash Dynamics v2.0 ROM for Trophy
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1523976
and use Zune to update from 8858 to 8862 (no need cabs files or others)...
with Dynamics ROM you have full unlocked phone and you can install XAP files
Thanks all. So I'm not sure what ROM I was on when I started Makes it much harder to troubleshoot.
Is it possible to download a full original ROM and flash that? The Dynamics ROM looks cool, but I would like to avoid going down the HSPL route (If possible).
Do I just need to get all English language packs up to my current ROM version to load for menu functionality, or do I need all languages loaded? I've had some luck getting a few English packs to load. Very tedious though.
Tim
why to avoid HSPL? you not loose anything (always you can go back to original SPL) and with HSPL and custom ROM you have unlimited possibilities and you can do almost anything...
with original ROM you can forget to add language or do any other things...
