I have rooted my xe via revolutionary, got the latest cwm installed and now installed superuser but how can I use root features like deleting system apks without flagging another ROM?
Thanks
SOLVED: I had just tried installing Superuser from the market. you need to flash it from http://androidsu.com/superuser/
I'm guessing this might not be possible then?
You can easily do this via something like root explorer which is a paid app, but there are other file explorers that allow root access that are free. Have a search on the market and see you come up with.

He is right if you have s-off and recovery and installed su your good. Es file explorer can be used to. Just check both root access and mount system.

Just tried es explorer, enabled root mode and it gave me an error
Related
I started with stock at FP5
Used Odin to flash clockworkmod recovery.
Used clockworkmod recovery to install Tweaked3
then installed Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip and su-bin-3.1.1-arm-signed.zip
and rebooted the phone.
I used the app root checker. it says congratulations you have root access.
Then install terminal emulator from google play
i type "su" and everything works fine.
but when I use ES File explorer and try to enable root features the Superuser dialog comes up like normal. I click yes to allow, like usual, but then ES complains that I don't have root access and then everything there on out tells me I don't have root access.
Superuser reports that the su binary can't be found.
browsing to /system/bin/ and looking myself, i clearly see su sitting there.
I reboot the phone and I'm back to "normal"
I have my root access, everything is fine.
How could ES file manager trying to gain root cause this to happen?
update:
just tried "File Manager" from google play.
same problem as ES
hmmm
I would just avoid ES altogether. It is breaking functionality slowly.
Do I understand you correctly that you have two different superusers installed (Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip and su-bin-3.1.1-arm-signed.zip)? Perhaps that may the root (no pun intended) of your problem?

haha nice pun,
well, from my understanding it's not the same thing.
there's the SU binary and then the superuser application that manages other application access to the SU binary.
I got them from androidsu.com/superuser
and installed:
binary only
md5: d78ec986923b72dfdaa71d1db731a8f3
su-bin-3.1.1-arm-signed.zip
(3.2-RC3)
md5: 6462ac14cd38ed7c539ce3e29a6b92a8
Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip
You could try starting over and using SuperSU. Tweaked moved to that and its worked fine ever since.

ahh, this is the first i'm hearing of SuperSu. I'll have to look into this more.
I agree that you should re-flash Tweaked 3.0 and then just use SuperSU and see what happens. I'm pretty sure you have multiple instances of an su binary on your phone giving both it and you heartburn.

Well,
I did just that and I no longer have any problems at all.
Thanks everybody
Good to hear and glad we could help.
Stay away from ES File Explorer. I use Root Explorer and it's awesome. It's a paid app though. There's another good one that's free but I don't remember the name.
Can someone tell me what to do in es file explorer to Bork my charge. I have not had any issues that I've noticed. I have used es file explorer on my tablets and all my phones including the whole time with my charge and no probs. I've changed the build.prop. so many times. I haven't tried any build.prop changes on Tweaked 3.0 though. I'm on the Steele Blue theme at the moment. Stock kernel. Holo Launcher.

I just rooted my Asus TF101 tablet with Brk's Root Toolkit v8.
It says I am now rooted, but is there any way to know for sure?
I have rooted my phone before & when I did that I was able to remove all the useless apps that came preinstalled, but on my Tablet it will not let me. I was thinking with root access I would be able to do this.
I am thinking of flashing to another ROM, but want to be sure this thing is rooted first.
Any insight is appreciated!!
Thx!!!
Do you have a SuperUser or SuperSU app installed?
I would open it and see what happens.
Also, I do not believe you can uninstall system apps JUST being rooted, you need an app like Titanium Backup to do the uninstalling. They still are not uninstallable in the Settings - Apps section just by rooting.
Alternatively, install a root explorer (or enable Root Explorer permissions in ES File Explorer) and see if you get prompted for root access without errors.

Ah.....forgot about Titanium back up. I knew there was an app I needed to use.
I open SuperUser & it just says No Apps in List or something.
thx!!
I rooted my phone successfully back in February and everything was normal. Now suddenly, apps are not able to gain root access. When I write "su" in terminal emulator, # does not appear. Other apps such as Link2SD and File Explorer are also not able to gain root access. When I tried to update superuser, it downloads the manifest but is not able to gain root access.

Root Explorer is used if you have root. I would recommend using ES File Explorer or ASTRO File Manger if you don't have root. The folders you can access without root will be limited. Hope this helps

I have a G930F and installed TWRP + rooted with no issues. I can run rooted apps off of it as well like Titanium, Greenify, CF.Lumen, etc...
Although when I try the Root Explorer in ES File Manager, it keeps on telling me "Sorry test failed. This feature cannot run on your device". It doesn't look like it's even asking for root permissions. I tried different combinations of installing/uninstalling/rebooting and they don't seem to help. Any thoughts on what to do next?
Or if this is unfixable, any suggestions on what other file manager to use? Features I'm looking for include:
- Standard search/sort/filter/copy/cut/paste/delete
- Root Explorer
- FTP/SFTP support
- Configurable shortcuts/favorites
Thanks

I had the same problem I ended up just installing Root Explorer, too bad because I paid for ES File Explorer Pro too. If you figure it out let me knwo
I'd suggest solid explorer, very similar to es explorer but none of the app scanning and permissions crap that's recently been introduced in es.
Or just thinking out loud, would it be possible to add it to SuperSU's list without it requesting for access?

I used to have an HTC M7 with the ARHD rom, and the rom came with it by default so I got used to it. I have to admit that there are some things I wish it would do that it doesn't. But I would say about 90% of what I need is available there.
But since I am starting fresh with a new phone, I'm open to suggestions if you have another root file explorer in mind. Pretty much the only thing outside of the standard functions that I need is sftp support, so I can copy/paste files to/from my mac.

Amaze or Solid Explorer is good. ES used to be good but it turned the way of Cheetah Mobile apps and started adding useless **** to their app.

If you google ES file explorer apk old version theres a website that has every ES file explorer apk from day 1. when the version changed to 4.X.X is when they added all the useless crap and adds.

lol yeah all of those sd card analysis and home page and stuff that I don't even use. I tried Solid Explorer, that thing looks nice. no extra fluff and just has what I'm looking for for a file manager
Do you guys know of any other file managers that allows for editing the DateModified? I know Total Commander has one, but I'm not digging their interface.
