Legacy & Low Activity Devices HTC ChaCha - HTC ChaCha

Seems no one else is using ChaCha

I am
People are posting to ChaCha fourms but not as often as some others, like Xperia maybe. I got ChaCha (Status) because it had Gingerbread and a physical keyboard. I knew it was not the fastest phone and had abysmally bad internal memory but a real keyboard was a must. Either Cha Cha or Blackberry Torch ... Hope I picked right.

I'm not sorry I bought this phone at all.
If I lost it I'd replace it with another without question...
Besides its only £149 now, I paid £220 ish
Sent from my A810e using Tapatalk

I'm seriously thinking of selling my ChaCha for any price (something next to 150 USD in Brazil) and spending a little more for a real smartphone, that is going to receive official ICS or CyanogenMod support. Something like officials Google smartphones.

Evertime I look at a different phone I keep having a go and realising how much the chacha's keyboard rocks!

i also had quiet a few android devices...from zte blade over lg p990 to htc desire z, samsung galaxy note and now the htc chacha... i love the physical keyboard, and for the minimum hardware specs it is working flawlessy (but only with s-off and some tweaks). there is only one real competitor, and that is samsung with their pro series... the y pro is available, but the screen resolution is lower than the chachas and the m pro isn't still out there....and the chacha is the only android phone which has separate telephone buttons...
update: ok, there is also the huawei u8350 available...but the specs are not that good, and for a phone for about 100 euros i can not expect much...
and in germany/austria you will get now one for about 170 Euros (including taxes)...so that's a small price for such a device

Welcome to the forums
There is no such thing as "The best"
What is best for me may not be for you!!
Said that...My PERSONAL best of your list is Desire Z, because it´s HTC build and has a real keyboard
You said right!
if you want a H/W keyboard get a desire z, but imo you should get the desire, its faster than the galaxy s and the modding community is already established, it may take months n months before it gets going with the desire z, and ppl get used to the hardware

And you know it is faster how? My Samsung Vibrant beats my cousins Desire Z by a long shot with Bionix ROM.. There is a modding community for the Galaxy S phones also, Desire Z isnt the only one

ive got friends with the galaxy s, the lag on that device is shocking, having to wait 2-3 seconds to get into a threaded sms and the gps is probably the worst i have ever seen on a smartphone .......
Desire will be my choice
Agreed! If someone needs a phone that is rock solid and fast, desire line is great. If you think you would ever need a keyboard, the Desire Z is the best on the market.

Only issue I had with the Galaxy line was the cheap plastic feel of the device. It was the eventual deal breaker and that's why I moved to the Desire Z

I had the same problem before choosing a phone if you still didnt get anything i strongly recommend buying the htc desire
Been with me for 2 weeks now

why is the desire HD not an option?
The desire hd is an amazing phone. I am definitely going to get one when the are available in New Zealand. Hopefully that will be very soon.
I will still need to keep my Nexus One around for a while at least because there is no hacking scene for the desire hd. Actually there may never be one until someone figures out how to bypass the root protection.

[Q] which phone shall I buy ?

I need an unlocked phone
Thing iss my budget is 350
Maximum
I was thinking of getting a x10 used
or just get a samsung s.
Whats your opinion?
Thanks. Andriod only though. can you give me other choices ?
Thank you.
If you like messing around with your phone (Flashing, tweaking, modding, etc.) and the T-MOUS HD2 works in your area for 3G, go with that.
Otherwise, a used Nexus One or HTC Desire I'd say... The X10 isn't what it's cracked up to be.
Who is your carrier and in what country?
i don't like samsung ,because my sister have one , voice of it very low
Well I can start by saying there is a huge difference between a nexus s and a x10. They both suck. The nexus s is a Samsung and it's already falling behind many android phones about to be released, nexus s is much better than the Sony tho. I olwould wait a month or so and you can get a dual core. They are on the way.

Shop around. Keep your options open. Plenty of phones out there that are better than the x10 Sam S. Check Craigslist, ask your friends, etc. You can get a good deal for 350.
Desire Z/G2 is another option you might want to consider.
I bought my new desire hd a week ago and its amazing...highly recomended!
i think samsung galaxy s is the best at the moment

Buy HTC Desire S

Hi!
Who will buy the new HTC Desire S ?
I will not buy it because if it is not in the upgrade path for me and I got my Desire at the end of the last October, but I encourage everyone who will buy it because if we disregard all the puke people spill especially over in the Desire subforum, Desire S is a device of superb specification and if I wasn't under contract, I would be getting one myself.

I pre-ordered one, but I'm half regretting it in light of the recent Pyramid leak.
If I didn't already have the Desire hd I would.
--- I am geek. Hear me squeek. ---
I pre-ordered the Desire last year, and currently trying to sell it in order to pre-order the S...
I think it just fixes the little details in Desire that made all us looking for custom ROMs.
More space for apps (that is THE most important upgrade for me), a front camera so that we can make video-calls through skype..., HD video recording (though HTC could have gotten a 8MP cam), and a more solid body that our hands will enjoy (I am still mad about that back cap on Desire that doesn't fit EXACTLY as it should be...)
I don't have any smart-phone yet, and I'm nearly at the end of a 2-year no-data contract with a shiny-but-dumb Samsung, so I'm almost certainly getting one.
The main issues with the Desire are:
Memory's a little too small to install many apps.
Battery runs down too quickly
Overheating and reboots
Well the new device has more memory, more internal storage, and a 45nm CPU which should draw less power and be less prone to overheating, so that would appear to fix most of the problems.
I'm also drawn to the idea of built-in maps and some of the other Sense 2.1 goodies. And Gingerbread too.
The only thing that might change my mind is if the Desire S gets priced a little too close to the Incredible S and I have to pay an up-front cost (on the contracts I'm looking at, the Desire is free).
I would buy one - if the price is right...

it was released in India a few days back & is available in some shops (but not all)
i think the price was 25500 (not sure about this though)
Sold my ol' Desire last month. And now did get the DESIRE S.
It's worth it. from the build quality to camera, dimension..I must say it's a whole new phone.
I really want this phone. I will get it when a NAM version is available. I hope TELUS or bell will pick this up. A perfect phone to replace my nexus one.

i guess that is true as the Desire S has a adreno 205 GPU & the processor is 45nm fabricated
& the original Desire has a adreno 200 GPU & the processor is 65nm fabricated
so the Desire S is faster GPU,less power hungry & also produces less heat
the Desire S also has better 3G capabilities, more ram, more rom, better camera (even though both are 5 MP),a front facing camera,a slightly better battery
the desire S also does not have any axis swapping bug like the original Desire & supports multi-touch with at than 2 separate points
so hardware wise its much better than the original Desire(i guess its better software wise too but i don't have the device yet so cant say )

I just did. Sold my HTC Desire for 300€ (433$) to a friend today and ordered a simlock-free and branding-free HTC Desire S muted black for 430€ (621$) online.
I am gonna miss the real hardware buttons (for waking up the device using lockBot pro), but I think I will not be disappointed. And the black color rulez! Hated that brownish ugly bronze of the Desire.
=)

suggest me android smart phone

i got 3 option
HTC Desire
HTC Incredible S
Google Nuxes S
i am from pakitan so the price for desire is 42K, Nuxes S for 44K and Incredible S is available for 46K
please suggest me, which cell should i buy.
The incredible S without doubt.
It is larger than the Desire (similar size to Desire HD). The Desire is just "old" compared to the other two and the Nexus S is a Samsung and I don't like Samsung phones (hardware and software, the former you can't do much about).
It depends really. Is this your first android phone?
One thing you might take for granted for example is that it will display Arabic characters but it doesn't. It is the top problem on Google's issue tracker at the moment but I have no idea of when they'll fix it. It is possible to get browsers such as opera that can display the characters correctly though.
On another point the Nexus S is a pure Android phone and as such is quite bare compared to HTCs. I have one myself but I did miss the selection of widgets that HTCs come with by default such as the mobile network on / off one. The last time that I looked none of the ones in the market worked on gingerbread.
If you're a new user I'd probably suggest the Incredible and perhaps something in the Nexus line for your next phone after that
thanks baz & jmm
yes this is my first android phone but i don't need Arabic support coz i can use set in english. so u guys suggesting me HTC Incredible S....
Absolutely, no question, HTC Incredible S.
Incredible S!
well HTC now is one of most popular brand, i think same like the others,HTC Incredible S

I would buy the Nexus S in a heartbeat, It would be the best of them. It is Google's version of the iPhone in quality and superior hardware. Those others don't really compare to it. The Nexus S is the only one with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). The other two are still on 2.1 or 2.2. And the Nexus S is the only one to have a genuine gyro.
@MartyLK
thanks for reply
dude if u r just talking about OS then incridable S is also getting Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) in June so no big deal for me to use 2-3 months old os there is difference of FM radio, camera and sound ......
and incredible S also getting Sense UI 3.0 with Gingerbread
I would buy Incerdible S absolutly
thanks guys.....
i just unboxed my Incredible S.....
Incredible S for sure !!!!!!!!
Why the incredible s but not the desire s?? They are very similiar!! The community is too small for the DS...

I find it to be the most overrated phone out there.
Good, maybe great, but nothing amazing.
+1 for the Incredible S
I love HTC and I'm a big fan of Sense as well (assuming that you root the phone and run sense 3.0 or a 2.1/3.0 mix)

[Q] What to buy?

Hi im in the process of looking for a new upgrade from my touch pro2.
I was intending to get a Desire S, due to its aluminium body and 1ghz processor. But my provider has the Motorola Atrix and Samsung Galaxy S on offer too.
All 3 phones cost the same monthly fee when bundled with the same phone plan.
What would you get? HTC Desire S, Moto Atrix or Samsung Galaxy S. My last 2 phones have been htc and Ive been very impressed with the build quality of them. I maily use the phone for web browsing, watching movies, and occasional games and do enjoy loading roms etc.. Anyone have any advice on what to get or what not to get?
i would get the moto atrix fingerprint + dualcore ownz
Don't get Moto due to locked bootloader. I had to choose between Galaxy S, Nexus S and Desire S.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA Premium App
get the moto atrix!
Well Desire S has a locked bootloader too. And up to now, there are no updates about the unlocking announcement of HTC
Thanks for the advice.
Ive checked out the atrix a little on youtube and it does look nice and responsive. Seems lag free and that will be strange comming from winmo 6.5 on my htc touch pro 2 lol. The games on the atrix run very well too.
I suppose its more furture proof being dual core and I am a nvidia fanboi lol.
So the Desire S and Atrix both have locked bootloaders? So no flashing on either device untill either of the companies provide an unlock or someone hacks one?
I'd say go Desire S....(in fact I did, and I also came from a HTC WM device - topaz)
You're used to HTC phones, you obviously like the Sense look and feel and you'll get a head start with the conversion to Android having the already familiar Sense as you user interface.
Currently Desire S and Moto both have locked bootloaders but Desire S can be unlocked with XTC and will hopefully be software unlocked either by XDA Alpharev or HTC.
Good luck picking!
Yeah I do like the sense look and feel, and have been sick of trying to run android on my touch pro 2 only to have it sleep of death on me after 20 mins
Im wondering how much difference the dual core vs single core cpu in these phones would have on phone lag, especially when it comes to web browsing/navigation etc. Are most of you Desire S users happy with the power under the hood, so to speak?
Also I work in a pretty rough environment and my old touch pro 2 has dents and scratches all over it, its survived being dropped from 3mts in the air down onto concrete lol. It wont die.
Ive read the moto atrix seems plastic like, that worries me. Do you think the desire s would be pretty tough?

Desire S seems plenty fast for me, I don't play games on the device and browsing speed is mainly determined by the network speed as oppossed to CPU power.
Screen protector and a case should be a must, even though Desire feels like a strong well made device you won't want to wreck it and it will still be smaller than your old device.
anyway u still don't know what apps for android are coming and how much cpu they'll need, so with a dual core u are more future proof than with a single core
On my opinion, I recommended to buy desire s, I moved from touch pro 2 as well , MOTO atrix's screen is bull****, don't buy it , you will loss money, galaxy s2 is best one, but price is too high at momnent, just wait couple weeks
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA Premium App
hmm thanks for the advice guys, ill go to a store tomorrow and compare the 2 phones builds. I am thinking ill probably go with the desire s.

I am more or less on the same boat, but I'm torn between desire s, galaxy s2 and iphone 4. (the dark side is tempting a bit )
Coming from hd2 with desire rom (lost it... ) I know I will love d.s, also it is the cheapest of those above so more likely I'll get one as soon as I will leave the bath.
I had a Atrix for a while but ended up sending it back. It is a really nice device, super fast and pretty good build quality (although i'd say the Desire S is better).
The negative for me were:
1. Battery Life sucked (although the Desire isn't amazing in this area either)
2. Motoblur sucked: Really disliked the interface although Sense is also showing its age (Launcherpro ftw)
3. Apps: I've found a total of 2 apps where I can see the benefit of a dual core processor; Dungeon Defenders and Google Earth (noticeably smoother on the atrix)
4. Cost: Total cost of phone over the contract was 1/2 that of Desire S, In a few months I'm pretty sure I could pick up a dual core tablet for the difference.
One thing, I am playing the lastest gameloft games (The games that have the best graphics) and they work perfect... i dont see why i need a dual core phone?!?!
BTW Its Dungeon Hunter 2... an AWESOME game xD
Between Galaxy S and HTC Desire S I’d go for the second cause 1st I personally don’t like Samsung’s implementation of UI and menu and 2nd HTC has a more solid build.
Ive had a SGS and had nothing but problems. The phone spent more time in the repair centre than i it was with me so eventually i sold it and bought a DHD and now also own a desire s.apart from the screen size the desire s is a better all round phone imo.sgs had the motherboard changed 2 times, screen turned dull and maps was miles in accurate plus no camera flash

I'd say go Desire S, but then I'm biased, I think that you'll love Sense over TouchWiz in no time.
Well thanks for everyone's input. I ended up with the desire s, the atrix looked good, but I didn't like the MOTO theme. The HTC sense is much nicer looking and I'm familiar with it. So far the fone is great. I'm missing my touch pro 2 keyboard, but ill be use to the onscreen kb soon enough.
Thanks again, time to learn as much as I can about this new world of android.
