First, let me say thanks to all who contribute. I started with a G1 when it first came out, using the JF mods and lurking these forums for hours. Without you guys, we'd all be stuck with boring stock devices!
Heres my question:
I've done a search and just want someone to verify my next planned step.
Tonight I think almost bricked my Mytouch 4g. I had root, and had CM6.1.2-RC2 installed. It was working great.
Then I wanted to get the CM7 nightlies working. I couldn't get the CM7 rom past the mytouch splash screen. So, I upgraded Rom Manager, and thought i had to upgrade ClockworkMod to 3.0 to get the CM7 nightly rom to boot. I accidentaly flashed the wrong ClockworkMod Recovery. I flashed the file that was for a G2 (vision). Rebooted without noticing my mistake, than noticed my error when I couldn't get into recovery mode.
Fortunately i installed Hboot during the rooting process. I'm planning on letting Hboot flash the file mentioned in this post to get back to stock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10514066
What do you think?
Just don't want to get myself in deeper S...
Thanks again.
connect the usb and run adb. Boot into bootloader and flash the recovery 3.0??? that way. You'll be good to go after that

You can connect adb with the bootloader? I ran:
Code:
adb devices
and adb came back with no devices found.
How do I flash the recovery if adb has nothing to communicate with?
BTW, I'm using Hboot Engineering, and Hboot does recognize the usb connection by displaying: HBOOT USB PLUG
fastboot devices
fastboot devices
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
SOLVED
Thanks for trying to help osugsxr. I will have to read up on fastboot.
However, I did not follow your advice. I didn't get your reply in time to try fastboot. My impatient ADD personality went ahead and followed the advice in the thread that I referred to in my original post. In an effort to help others who may have gotten into a jam, heres what I did:
1. Took out my SD card and connected it to my PC via external SD card reader.
2. Because I had a ton of crap on the SD card, I formatted it FAT32 to have a clean card.
3. Downloaded the stock Glacier rom (A large 315mb file. Should have a filename like PD15IMG_Glacier_TMOUS_1.17.531.2_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155771_signed.zip)
4. Copied the stock Glacier rom to the SD blank card.
5. Renamed the rom to PD15IMG.zip (maybe case sensitive, not sure)
6. Unmounted/Ejected the SD card from the PC reader an put it back in my phone.
7. Pulled the battery on my phone for about a minute then put it back in.
7. Hold volume down and the power button at the same time.
8. Hboot should start up, then after a few moments it will say loading PD15IMG.zip. After PD15IMG.zip loads, it will ask you "Do you want to start update?". Press VOL UP for Yes.
9. You will then see Hboot working its way down a list of about 9 items. Be patient, this takes a while. After this is done, it will say so, and tell you to press the power button to reboot.
Hopefully you have successfully flashed the stock rom, and your phone will be back to what it was like when you first bought it.
I attached pictures of the Hboot screen and flashing process for reference
After seeing this issue quite a few times this past week I thought I make a tutorial on how to possibly fix this. If any of you see any errors or any way to improve this guide please let me know and ill include it and or adjust accordingly
Note-Make sure you have plenty of battery. You don’t want your phone dying in the middle of flashing a PD98IMG
If you are stuck in Hboot and have S-On or don't have access to an adapter go straight to Alternate method at the end
Rename to PD98IMG

Reinstalling Recovery
For whatever reason you have wiped your custom recovery (My guess is you did a factory reset, thus erasing it). Personally I would try this first as one can go straight to a custom rom. If you don't want a custom rom feel free to go to the next section.
1) Back up anything you don’t want deleted from your sd card
2) Plug in sd card into computer through an adapter of some kind or another phone
3) Reformat the Sd Card to Fat32 – Do a full reformat not a quick
4) Once reformat is complete place the file downloaded from the first link on the sd card
5) Eject the sd card from computer and insert into phone
6) Power off phone by pulling the battery
7) Reinsert the battery
8) Boot into bootloader by pressing volume down and power button
9) It will scan for the file press volume up to accept update
10) It will ask you to reboot- you will still be stuck which is normal-
11) If everything is going to plan you now have access to recovery. So now we need to flash a rom. (Remember to delete the pd98 as it will prevent you from going into recovery)Skip down to the flashing rom section if you don’t know how to. If flashing the recovery didn't work continue to the next section
Reinstalling Recovery With No Card Reader
1) Download recovery above and place it in your fastboot directory
2) Boot into Hboot
3) Connect your phone to your PC
4) Select fastboot
5) Open up command prompt and CD to your Fastboot directory
6) Run the command fastboot erase cache
7) After the OK run fastboot oem rebootRUU
8) You'll see a new screen with HTC logo and a progress bar. here you need to run fastboot flash zip PD98IMG.zip
9) Once it completes (should say ok,finished, or complete) run fastboot reboot bootloader
10) Go into Recovery and flash a rom
Flashing a Stock Rom
Note- If you have S-Off i recommend flashing the prerooted version
1) If coming from previous section plug in sd card and delete old file then Jump to step 5
2) Back up anything you don’t want deleted from your sd card
3) Plug in sd card into computer through an adapter of some kind or another phone
4) Reformat the Sd Card to Fat32 – Do a full reformat not a quick
5) Once reformat is complete place the stock rom on the sd card
6) Eject the sd card from computer and insert into phone
7) Power off phone by pulling the battery
8) Reinsert the battery
9) Boot into bootloader by pressing volume down and power button
10) It will scan for the file press volume up to accept update
11) If everything is going to plan you now should have a fully working phone
12) At this point you are un-rooted so if you want re-root I recommend using the ace hack kit. (unless you used a pre-rooted stock rom then no need to use hack kit)
NOTE- IF EITHER FLASHING THE STOCK ROM OR RECOVERY PD98 FILES HAVE NOT WORKED REPEAT PROCEDURE WITH A DIFFERENT SD CARD
Flashing a Rom
1) So we were able to re-flash a custom recovery. Connect sd card to computer and delete the PD98img file
2) Download the rom of your choice and any super wipe zips if your rom needs it
3) Place file on sd card eject and reinsert onto phone
4) Boot in bootloader.
5) This time it will scan and not find any files. After it scans scroll down and select recovery.
6) You should now be in CWR. Do a full wipe (wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache-found in advanced I think
a. If recommended by your rom uses a super wipe zip. Simply choose install from sd card in CWR and select the super wipe zip
7) Now flash the rom by selecting install from sd card and choosing rom
Alternate-Flashing of RUU
This is for those that don’t have access to an adapter to place files with. This should work whether your S-on or S-Off
RUU’s: http://goo.im/ruu/ace
1) Download your RUU from above
2) Boot into Hboot
3) Connect your phone to your PC
4) Select fastboot
5) Run the RUU program

First, confirm that you can boot into Hboot. If you can, then try Gene Pole's method, but you need a SD Card reader in order to put the zip file in the card.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16451214&postcount=1
Otherwise you can try to boot in recovery selecting it from Hboot menu and try to flash other rom.
Hope it helps....

I can not boot into Hboot...because when I tries flashing with RUU flasher..it gave me error and now I am stuck on hTc logo screen. I have to pull battery out to get out of that screen and when I plug in to computer of just turn on same htc screen with "triangle mark" in all four corners...I am so frustrated..Please hlep
Don't plug in phone. Pull the battery, reinsert and quickly press and hold the volume down and power button? What happened then?
Same htc screen with 4 triangles in corners.
Well don't panic.its only a phone I haven't seen an error 152, so I got look up what that means. You also mentioned that the you flashed the ruu several times? Did it ever complete or always errored out?
Edit- when you first tried the ruu were you ever able to enter hboot to begin with?

Don´t use the Flasher...use the cell straight foward....if you cant go into Hboot then try to boot in fastboot,....
plug to AC and keep pressing power...the led will turn red and green and then boot in fastboot. From there you might be able to use the hack kit to revert to stock.
If that is not working try to contact Gene Pole or Attn1 in the irc channel....he might help you better that I.

Hello all, have an HTC Inspire s-off h-b00t 0.85.0007. When the phone powers up, the bootloader is the only screen that comes up and is frozen. Cant use volume control or power button.
When you power it up is it booting straight into hboot? If so sounds like your volume button is stuck
Booting straight in to Hboot. He apparently did a factory reset, and when it rebooted it locked up. Cant get past step 12 of parsing the zip file for PD98IMG.zip on the root of the SD card (tried 2 2gbs, 1 1gb, and 1 8gb). 3 of the SD cards would only get to step 4 and freeze.
hboot 0.85.0007
s-off
Attached a couple of pictures, the first was from the rooted.zip and the second was from the non rooted.zip. I also attempted the recovery.zip (all named PD98IMG.zip)

Hard to understand how a hardware issue happens from applying a factory reset, not to say impossible... in my mind improbable, but what do I know. Thanks for the info.

the fact is that if you are rooted then a factory reset erases everything from your phone!! you get stuck if you don't flash other rom. If the volumen rocker is broken then you will boot always in hboot...don't actually know how the wipe happened but....did you have a PD98IMG.zip file in your sdcard??...that might explain it better...
Yesterday I tried to install a custom rom on my HTC Sensation. The sensation had the Dutch Vodafone ROM, updated to the newest version.
I started by following this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300 to the letter and did not encounter any problems.
Then I read a post about the InsertCoin ROM, and started with the recommended download and install of PG58IMG.zip. I did not install the ROM yet. Upon rebooting after installation of PG58IMG.zip the phone now seems to be in a boot loop, it boots untill the "Quitely Brilliant" appears and then reboots again. I removed PG58IMG.zip and reinstalled su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip (as per suggestion in another thread about a boot looped phone). However the phone refuses to install it.
Is there anything I can do the get my phone out of this bootloop?

Ugh.. really? Any idea what went wrong? I imagine I might have done somthing stupid, but I have no idea what.
You can probably fix it. First thing I would try doing is booting to recovery and restoring from the backup(s) you made.
hello i myself am not really familar with that device its one i never played with or researched but i do know that bootloop does not mean your device is bricked if your device is bricked it would simply be a black screen that did nothing something in your bootloader or spl (secondary program loader).
please boot into clockwork mod pull battery hold vol down when it boots do a complete wipe
wipe data / userdata
wipe cache
wipe davlik
then try to reboot see if you can boot then and if not pull out sd card download a rom from your pc to your sd card for your device try a diffrent rom install sd card into your phone boot back into clockwork mod select zip from sd and install most likely it will repair your boot loop.
(YOUR PHONE IS NOT BRICKED)
any ? go to sensation questions and answers and or development they can further benifit you because they deal with that device full time

I had the same problem. Solved it by installing the a compatible (to the new firmware) rom, like InsertCoin 4.3.2. So, tne procedure is:
1. Install firmware by putting PG58IMG.zip on root of sd card
2. remove PG58IMG.zip from root of sd card
3. install InsertCoin 4.3.2 from sd card
Hi buddy. No, you're not bricked. You just flashed a non-compatible ROM, you're all safe. It happened to me once.
A bricked device means a device that is unable to even power up. If it can boot to recovery, or fastboot, you're not bricked. And if you have a bootloop, you're not bricked either.
Do the following:
Battery pull
Put the battery back again
Press and hold the volume down button
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds, while keeping the volume down button
When you get into fastboot, let go volume button
Select recovery using the volume keys and confirming with the power button
There you are! You can flash back your backup... Because you have a backup, right?
@ all; Thanks all for the help! Wiping and restoring backups didn't do the trick, but the suggestions were very welcome since they convinced me I didn't brick my phone
Special thanks to Norad73 and Pyrobisqit; I did have a backup, but not of the firmware it seems, since restoring the backup didn't work <red face>.
Bu the suggestion of the ROM not being compatible with the new firmware was right on the mark. I installed the InsertCoin ROM, and yes it worked! I now have a very nice ICS Sensation
Thanks, thanks, thanks!
I just wanted to install the clockmod recovery in order to flash a new rom. (My phone wont download anything I thought the version is too old)
Since my phone was rooted, I just went straight to download the 4 ext recovery and installed it as the video showed on Youtube.
everything was OK until the very last step, which is restarting the phone and get into to boot loader? I forgot to uncheck the fast boot, so repeated to run 4ext and restart the phone many times. after unckecked the the fastboot first time, I successfully got into the boot loader but it didn't allow me to make the recovery there is only one option, (hit the power to something I cant remember) so nothing changed this time. Then I repeated it once more, this time it turns out two option, to update or not, then I hit the update, finally it shows me to hit power to reboot.. everything in my phone is gone now except the rom manager and super user apps.
But everything in sd card is still there, just the phone couldnt recognized the card now....
What can I do now???
you could try taking loading your sd card to a computer, copy everything off and reformat and try. You try to load another ROM. What happens if you start the phone without a SD Card in the phone?

Yes you could do that, you guy try using Clock work mod. Works the same way, minus the touch feature. The only reason i say reformat your sd card is because you said it was not being recognized by the phone.
What happens if you power up your phone with no sd card installed?

But all the old apps and contacts are still missing, did I just wipe them all??? Is there anyway to recover them??
If I did wipe everything, how come it doesn't change anything when I open the "removable disk" in my computer
if you are using a Google account. then you just have to resync your account and you will get your contacts back. The apps are gone and will have to be redownloaded unless you made a backup. Like coping the sd card contents to your computer and then putting them back on your card. If you redownload the apps, your data should still be there to use.

1. CWM and 4ext are both recoveries. Though 4ext was based on CWM at some point, they are separate recoveries.
2. What, exactly, step by step, did this video have you do?
3. For future reference, I don't advise using videos. They can be outdated and/or just plain inaccurate, and fewer people view them, so problems aren't pointed out as quickly.

Download the 4ext recovery image (not sure where to get the .IMG file but google and you'll find it =})
Then rename it recovery.IMG and put it where your adb.exe is (C:\Windows\System32 if you used Advance Ace Hack Kit)
Then type adb adb flash recovery recovery.IMG and it should flash 4ext
Then put a Rom on the SD Card and flash it using 4EXT =)
TheCorner approves..
That Thanks button ain't gonna push itself!

He said I need to root and install recovery before flash the rom, so I was just trying to install the recovery.

Are you S-OFF, do you have recovery installed? CWM or 4ext are just the same to flash a rom as long you have a recovery installed. To flash a partition you need to be whether S-OFF or have the bootloader unlocked....what situation is yours?
Let me tell you something that I share with MissB up there...that video sucks..there are lots of GOOD tutorials on how to flash a rom, but of course you need to read first...if not just ask the guy who did the video. Flashing and hacking is not for the lazy ones.
Hello,
Earlier today I installed BAKED ROM on my AT&T HTC ONE XL that was at the time running CM 10.1 After having some issues with wifi not working I decided to restore from my backup made in CWR when installing CM 10.1 on my phone. After the restore finished i was stuck in a bootloop. So i went back into CWR to re install the BAKED ROM. Once i cleared drive i came to realize that i somehow deleted the .zip files for the ROM on my phone and no longer had a ROM to install. After that i decided that I would mount my phone from CWR so i can transfer the .zip to my phone and then install. After realizing i need to use TWRP to be able to mount and transfer files i was going to flash over TWRP in fastboot. My issue currently is that my phone is powered off after telling it to shutdown in bootloader, and i can not get it to turn back on or to boot into bootloader so that i can flash TWRP. Hopefully i am missing something small here. Any advise is appreciated.
Thank You

hold the power button down for about 15 seconds. wait for 5 seconds, then press the power button and volume down at the same time after a few seconds you should get the bootloader screen.
does the led come on when you're charging it?

Sadly based on my knowledge and experience(I learned this the hard way by taking the ATT OTA) if the led doesn't come on while charging and you cant access your bootloader your phone is sadly dead. However you can double check to see if its your cord and if it is not then call HTC if device is still under warranty. They replaced the internals of mine and recieved it back at no charge.
If I have helped in any way hit the Thanks button please.
Why did you "need" to go to TWRP to mount SD? Clockworkmod has had SD mount fixed for some time now, hasn't it?
Leave the phone on wall charger (not connected to computer) overnight or 8 Hrs or so, and see if you get any LED's or can get into bootloader. If you were only messing with ROMs and recovery, I don't see how you can be bricked (as long as anything you were trying to flash was for the EVITA). The battery may just have run down while you were messing with the device.

Well when i went into clockworkmod and told it to mount SD it did not work, i have all of my drivers installed properly so it couldn't be a driver issue. So i figured that i would just flash over TWRP and use mount to usb as a second shot. I will have to try and leave it plugged in later after work. Yes the ROM that i installed was for the EVITA, it was running fine except the wifi wouldnt turn on.

If/when you get back up and running, if still on CWM, make sure its up to date. I think the SD mount was fixed quite some time ago.

Okay thanks for the input i will check it out as soon as I am able
When i came home from work and plugged it in the red LED light came on. After letting it charge for about 5 hours i tried to access the bootloader by pressing power down for 15 seconds, then waiting 5, and then power and volume down, to no result. Only when holding down power for the first 15 seconds the soft on screen keys did flash

After holding the power button down and let the capacitive keys flash 6 times. The 6 flashes means a hard reset and it's about to start rebooting. Let go of the power button and immediately hold volume down. It should take you into the bootloader. Then you can fastboot flash TWRP.

Glad you got it working.
What hboot are you on? If you are on one of the newer ones, not 1.09, and don't have s-off you have to manually flash the boot.img through fastboot after installing the ROM. That sounds like it might be your issue.

Agreed, i did forget to flash to boot image during my excitement to a working phone again, even so, if i hadn't flashed the boot image why is it that my phone was actually able to start up the rom and go through phone system setup?

because the rom you flashed is based on CM so it was compatible enough to boot but not have everything working as it should. if you don't flash the boot.img, the previously used kernel would still be used.
The ROM was running and i was able to use my phone. Then i flashed over the boot.img for my rom and now it doesnt boot up it is stuck at the Cyanogen Mod loading screen

boot to recovery, wipe everything (cache, dalvik, system, factory reset), reflash the rom you want to use, then reboot to bootloader and fastboot flash boot boot.img extracted from the rom you just flashed.
Not sure where you went wrong but that will get you booting. To avoid having to fastboot flash boot boot.img everytime, you can S-OFF.

I will have to look into the S-OFF. As of right now i wiped everything, installed rom, installed gaps, went to bootloader flashed boot.img and now just waiting to see if it will start up

You can also use the flash image GUI app to flash a boot image in Android right before you boot to recovery to flash the ROM. But I would definitely look into s-off. It's a very easy process and then you don't ever have to worry about the boot.img at all.
