I love the stock sense ui, but I really miss the scrollable dock I had on my launcher pro ui setup. Anyone know of a mod that will replace the sense dock with something more launcher pro-esque without sacrificing access to the sense widgets?
Thanks

I know this is like beating a dead horse and yes I do understand that for some reason people like Sense that much more....but what widget is it that you really want that is available in Sense but not Launcher Pro? I say this as someone who was a huge fan of Sense until I actually set up Launcher Pro with the dock and icons and widgets I wanted at which point I could never see myself going back to (at least the current version of) Sense.
Rather than starting the old debate, I mean this more as an offer to help you find a compromise.
I had launcher pro on my epic before I took it back, and really loved it, it was the lite (free) version, so have it didn't have all the widgets avail on the donation version.
I love the live weather clock, the book mark page, the enhanced music player, and the friend stream feed.
I actually just looked at the widgets you get with the donation version, and they seem to cover every thing but the sense clock. Are there free apps that will provide equivalent to the htc sense apps that I could use with launcher pro?

for a sense clock download fancy widget from the market. works exactly the same, looks exactly the same
There are quite a few weather and clock apps. Beautiful widgets stands out but there are others like Fancy Widget as well. The bookmarks I'm not sure about since I use my browser's bookmarks. There is a Friends widget with LP but I never used it since those kinds of widgets demolish battery and I prefer to just check that stuff from Facebook or whatever. There are quite a few music widgets as well and many are much nicer than the Sense one as well.
Honestly your best bet is to get the full LP. It's a very good app and worth the tiny price. Between their widgets and all of the ones (free and paid...mostly free) in the market, there shouldn't be anything getting in your way. I'd rather just pay for LP and have all of my options than try to hack Sense to be as flexible as LP. Sense is a decent bit of polish on the base Android OS if you like how it looks but it is hard to customize and it is missing some of the best parts of third party launchers. Check out the screenshot and LauncherPro threads in this subforum and you might just find some things that make Sense look boring.
If you really do need something from Sense, you will probably need to give up the scrolling dock but there are some nice themes to make it at least look better than the default scheme.
Thanks guys, the info is exactly what I needed

I'm currently using 5 home screens with 7 Widgets. The scrolling isnt as smooth as I hope it to be. Just want to see how many other people have.
Services also hovers around 100-130
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
That's not too many at all. But the smooth home screen scrolling comes when you turn off live wall paper and use a static one. That's what I've found matters, not the widgets.
This is what I have on my Nexus S, with ADW.Launcher EX:
1st. power control widget, switchpro widget, flashlight widget, gv widget
2. facebook, twitter
3. none.
4. google search, buncha shortcuts for folder organizers.
Buttery smooth.
one thing i forgot to mention is that on all other android phone's i've used, launcher pro and ADW make the home screen scrolling buttery smooth. but the stock launcher is never as smooth, even brand new with nothing loaded.
i believe it's something that the dev's did to enhance these aftermarket launchers, so its highly recommended to use one of them over stock.
If im using launcher pro, is it best to delete all the widgets in the stock launcher or wont it matter?

yes definitely delete all items off the stock launcher as i'm pretty sure that still is in the background so the less resources it needs to keep in memory the better since you're not using it anyway.
I have 7 widgets: 2 1x1, 4 4x1, and 1 4x2. I'm also using the clock live wallpaper. Scrolling is smooth as butter on stock. No roms, optimizations, or 3rd party apps. Perhaps the live wallpaper I've used (clock, microbes, and nexus) didn't use much resource.
I use several Widgets, Facebook, twitter, clock, NHL gamecenter, tweetdeck post, and use the matrix live wallpaper on bone stock and scrolling is smooth for me ad well.

Please enlist apps which have 5x size widgets, at least until ICS happens.
All stock Samsung apps made for the note have 5x widgets:
1. S-memo
2. S-planner
3. Accuweather
HD widgets in market has some nice ones specifically for the note

I have just installed HD Widgets but all I can see are the 4x? widgets on there, nothing else?
Am i missing something, I thought there was special widgets for the Galaxy Note??

update to the newer version, it allows you to do 5x1, 5x2, etc.
Done, love it.
However everyone else needs to follow suit and get some 5x widgets out

FANCY WIDGETS is another alternative....
and for battery widget..
go for battery indicator widget ... it has good graphics !
Widgetsoid (toggle controls) also has 5x1 widget , very nice.
Calengoo (feature rich calendar app) has multiple 5x widgets with tons of customizations.
Elixir 2 with Elixir 2 Widgets.
Or use one of the third party launchers like ADW/Launcher Pro/GO that let you resize any widget. Most 4x widgets look fine when stretched to 5x.

I have Fancy Widgets but it has only 2x and 4x size, not 5x
Apw has 5x Widgets but you need to set it up in the main app before the 5x Widgets show up in the Widgets menu.

i think spb shell is good..

Minimalistic Text has native 5x1 and 1x5 widgets.
No 5x2, though, which would be useful
i just want to find out what peoples opinions are on home launchers. i am currently using GO Launcher EX and i have enjoyed it and seen a lot of progress on their part. i used Launcher Pro for a bit but there was not much development and they had a "paid" version that didnt really give you more options.. witch i paid for btw. ADW is alright.. it seemed kind of dirty and choppy..
give your input please.
I like LaunchePro a lot, lacks developing, but still I'm find it very fluid, like no other... I would like to switch I'm getting bored of my theme and the lack of options it offers. I can use some advice too.
cheers.
I was a Launcher Pro Plus user for the longest time, until I tried Go Launcher EX. I haven't turned back since. Go Launcher is awesome! Tons of features, and it has some great animations. I love the gesture feature as well. Def worth checking out. It's 100% free.

I would say ADW EX is the best out there. Simply amazing smoothness, fluid animations, theming support and excellent customisation options.

I second ADW Ex, it's great. And since development (and any communication from the dev) has stopped, LauncherPro has been left in the dust while other launchers have been adding features.
I don't trust the Go team or any of their apps. No ads, free apps, and permission for everything... makes me wonder how they make money.
I've been using the stock MIUI launcher for a while now, but ADW Ex is definitely the way to go if you don't have that.
Launcher for SGS2
If u are using a Samsung galaxy S2, I am sure that you all would love 2 home replacement apps .. The first one is touchwiz launcher (available in market) and the other one is Nemus Launcher ..
Touchwiz launcher is so similar to your stock UI. BUT it has additional options of having upto 5 custom shortcuts on dock and can even hide app labels on dock. App browser has options of 3d and highlighting running apps. The rest of it is just as the stock launcher. Best part is that it runs high scores on quadrant standard on gingerbread original.. my highest was 3800..
Nemus launcher is little known launcher but is one of the smoothest and best on galaxy s2. The app drawer is the best with hide app option and an amazingly cool fade to black of unused apps while scrolling in app drawer. This launcher can have upto 5 customizable docks. It is low on resources. Excellent scores in quadrant standard as well...
Launcher 7 overall takes less ram and I think its rather fast and smooth than any other launcher I have tested even wen I underclock its still prety smooth

I would suggest Go launcher ex(has tons of features)
Go Launcher ex and ADW launcher ex are my favourites. Back when it was still being worked on by Mr.Carnales, launcher pro was beastly... but those days are gone :/
SS launcher is different.
I loved the fluid movement of TSF shell, took some time to get used to though.
go launcher and adw launcher are the best..
I like ADWLauncher Ex , because it has a nice interface .
Advantages:
Highly Customizable Home replacement application
5 different app drawer styles/behaviors
3D Nexus One like application drawer
2 different plain vertical drawer styles, the “old one” and a new fast and smooth one
2 different Iphone-like horizontal application drawers, a traditional paginated one and a new one with continuous fling
Different desktop transitions: new animations while navigating through your desktop screens. Try them all, they’re crazy!!!
New Icons configurations/look and feel: Tweak your desktop icons, change its sizes, add coloured backgrounds, change font size, color, etc!
New fast presets mode: Quickly change the whole desktop configuration by 1 click!
Editable desktop icons for applications, shortcuts and folders!
Lots of code improvements
Lots and more . That's why i love ADWLauncher Ex and i've been using it for like 1 year already . The launcher is kinda awesome though . I donated to the developer to support them .

TSF-Shell is nice and fast, especially with mobile that have limited resources such as SGS I (512 RAM), but if you're looking for real features you are definitely not pointing to TSF-Shell... Yet it ain't fair to compare Go Launcher EX and TSF-Shell as each launcher has his own specs + each user will use the launcher that best fits his needs, some needs a fast launcher and that would come over the features it will have, and others are looking for features despite some lag of performance...

I would say Go launcher EX is the best for all the features.
Hello everybody,
I'd like you all to know that I would like to open-source ARM Launcher to continue active development. see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2326240
---
I've just released version 0.99.16 to google play. This release contains the following improvements/features:
Allow custom icons in the main dock (a lot of requests for this).
Fix that an item drop preview will not be shown for the top left corner.
Google play compatibility with devices like nexus 7 (thanks to a dear college for letting me borrow his nexus 7).
Improved start-up time.
Support for quick restart after being killed by android when more resources are needed.
Due to the change of the way the dock works, long pressing the icons it contains now starts a drag. To access the quick popup, long press the drawer icon.
----
Hello all,
I'd like to announce a new Launcher for android. ARM Launcher. The goal is to have a fast, user friendly and highly configurable launcher. All devices with android 2.3.3 and higher are supported.
Features:
Support for various theme formats.
Sidebar to quickly start your favorite applications, recent applications or search all applications
The launcher supports Launcher Pro+ themes and includes the same widgets (except for the gmail widget).
Not limited by a 4x4 grid. ARM Launcher has much more grid cells to allow you to layout your screens as you'd like.
All widgets can be re-sized.
Lots of integrated widgets
Long press the default icons (dialer, drawer, contacts) in the bar to easily access your recent messages, recent applications, bookmarks, contacts and recent calls.
And much more.
ARM Launcher is not based on the android 4 stock launcher like for example Nova and Apex Launcher are. Instead ARM Launcher has been built manually from scratch using the the android Stock Launcher only as a reference.
If you'd like to try ARM Launcher, please download it from google play. Search for "ARM Launcher" to find it. Any feedback or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Please not that this application is a launcher, you'll have to start it using your device's home button.
For screenshots please visit sites.google.com/site/armlauncher/screenshots
Thank you!
I love your launcher , No lag in animations , Light on RAM. Just wonderful . Widgets are beautiful especially the message conversations and calender. Thanks.
Re: Announcing ARM Launcher
I would like to call it the new (and definitely improved) LauncherPro. Nice animations, especially when you move icons around! Widget are almost identical to the ones from LauncherPro
I'm using this as launcher from now on.

You should change the title of the thread to:
[2.3+] [Launcher] ARM launcher [11 feb]
And highlight the main differences between Apex, Nova and ARM. Yours is a lot better when it comes to home page customization.
[Q] Would it be possible to integrate something like Unity launcher or Swapps as "recent apps"? I mean like a side toolbar. Swipe gestures are the hype of 2013

Extremely nice launcher, some bugs here and there, but definitely worth. Could you add the "caroussel" swiping effect from LG if possible. And some customizations such as transparency support, local icon use and contol over the app drawer such as removing tabs to show icons only would be very nice. Let me thank you once again sir. Really hats off to u for this awesome launcher. I don't have words to describe the joy of using this launcher.
Thanks
Nic thanks

Thanks for your comments, what kind of gesture were you thinking about? Something like swiping up or down? You can long press the drawer icon and it will show you your recently opened applications.
I am a bit familiar with apex, but not so much with nova. They are a lot like the android stock launcher aren't they?

I'm not talking about the up and down gestures which are less useful with scrolling widgets, imo. I mean the side toolbar which one can expand with a gesture from the side of the screen to the middle, the are a few and work reasonably well: unity launcher, Swapps. But if these Ubuntu phone inspired functions would be part of ARM launcher that would be excellent!
Nova and Apex are practically the same, the stock launcher with a lot of options. And that's exactly what I love about your launcher... This one is really different!

I definitely like the way Swapps looks. I will probably add something similar. Nice suggestion!
I'm running it on CM7 Atrix so I don't see why it lags? I think the first goal of any launcher before features, is making it smoother than launcher pro.
Keep it up though, it can be great.
Smooth
Working very smoothly on my galaxy prevail.
Fantastic launcher for beta. Really smooth and fast overall. But no gestures mean no go for me. I will keep an eye on this though. Hopefully see more features in the future.
I really like the look and feel of this launcher. Long-pressing the dock icons is a unique feature.
Transparent widgets would be great.
The app drawer acted up at first. Some icons were missing although the name of the app was visible, and I couldn't open any apps from the drawer. Once I changed the drawer direction and chose the recent apps view, it settled down and began to work properly.

Lag? Really? It works flawlessly here. I think old phones with singlecore processors would be laggy, I guess. But with multicore it should run lagfree.
