Hi,
I manually updated my nexus s to ICS today, working lovely except for the gallery.
Every time I try to open it, it just closes down again before I can even open a photo.
Anyone else having this problem or know why this is happening?
wipe data in manage apps?
D'oh!
Did not think of that. Works now, cheers
Ah, problems after all!
It would appear that the problem keeps re-occuring, everytime I take a new picture I have to clear the cache before it will work again. There must be something else causing it
Hmmm. Wipe data and cache. Maybe tht will clear it up

Nope, that's not helping.
Strange, can't figure out what's wrong with it
Weird. Why not just rock a real rom like miui? Ics is not special at all imo.

: haven't rooted this phone, wanted to keep it stock as I thought ICS would be more stable... worked out well!
Tried moving all the apps onto internal storage, made no difference. Can't find anyone else online with the same problem. Pissing me off now...
Download a gallery from the market. An aftermarket gallery will work.

i hooked up my phone to the pc and moved all the picture folders to a folder called dcim that where all the snapped pictures go and it still sorted out when i view them in gallery
So is it working now?

I know some of you have been having problems with a force close message that looks like this: Android.process.media is not responding please force close or retry.
I have done search after search only to find one way that ultimately fixes this annoying every second force close message.
1. Make sure your phone is rooted.
2. Using a file explorer of your choice go into the directories as follows:
/system/app/
3. Delete this file from the menu, mediaprovider.apk
4. Force close messages will now stop. Horray!
If you have questions post them. I will do my best to answer.

i tried it on my G2 and it hasn't worked yet. Had to give ES FileExplorer root.
Have a great morning!

media.process force close issue rooted htc desire
I fixed this problem without any further issues by clearing the download cache - I'm just as surprised as you.
staplesdroid said:
Yea like I said you must have a rooted phone!!!. Did it work after you gave es file root?
Another great program in root explorer. You can get it from ww w. 4shared .co m
Go there type in rootexplorer .apk and it will have multiple downloads. Just pick one and run it.
You can get all the paid apps for free like that. Just type in .apk after the app you want is typed in for example: rootexplorer .apk or irunner .apk or androidbanking .apk..... you get the picture?

Or you could get it from the market, and pay for it, and support the developers. But if you want to be a thief, that's your decision.

If 4 bucks is out of line, how is it you could afford your phone in the first place?

+ 1, a one time payment of $4 for something useful is nothing.

why patronize piracy?
I live in Asia, where pirated software/apps are more prevalent than legit ones. That is because software like Microsoft Windows is economically out of reach for the man on the street.
But $3.99? Come on! We shouldn't expect devs to continue churning out useful code without getting paid for it. If the developers of Titanium Backup or Root Toolbox had decided early on that it wasn't worth it to develop apps for Android or WinMo, we'd all still be in the Dark Ages of the cellphone era. Making custom ROMs is not the same. For one, many of them were based on stock firmware--which were made by highly-paid software engineers at phone makers in the first place.
What the Android Market offers for free, I download for free. When it has a price and I need it, I pay for it. Simple as that.
1) the fix listed above worked perfectly for me. (HD2, gingerbread, CM7)
2) paying for an app is the right thing to do. free ones are preferred, of course. you know it, i know it, they know it. support open source, support the community. pay it forward.

Thanks for the tip mate. I got rid of FC's after removing mediaprovider. But after removing it cannot access any sort of media like photos, ringtones etc :-D. Any other work around?

Yep, this is actually a horrible fix. For me, it did nothing except stop me from accessing any of my media. So if you don't care about listening to music, viewing any photos, having ringtones, viewing video you have taken etc, this MIGHT work for you. I had to dig out the mediaprovider.apk from the .zip of my ROM and replace it.
I fixed mine by restoring my last Titanium Backup ("restore all apps with data"). Whatever was corrupted was restored back to working order. I understand that not everyone has Titanium Backup, but it has save my a$$ a couple of times now when an app or system file has started acting weird. Root your phone and get TB, it's so worth it.
EDIT: OK, so the problem came back after I replaced mediaprovider.apk, so apologies for that. I booted into recovery and did a factory/data reset, then restored my Titanium Backup, and all seems to be good now. Again, I understand this may not help everyone, but it worked for me, and it avoids deleting apk files without fully understanding what effect it will have.
Help
I have a droid 2 global. i tried deleting the file and it says i cant. is there anything else i can do? i cant access my pics, music, or market.

I had the same problem with my Asus transformer. In addition the default Music player did not work anymore as it used to (played the wrong numbers).
The above solution did not work for me (I could get to the files mentioned without rooting).
Sofar I got the problem solved as followed.
1. I found an new version 4 of the Music player (com.google.android.misic.4.0.9.apk) and installed this version
2. This by itself did not solve anything, but now I could reinstall the factory original version and now everything is OK.
No forced closing anymore and the default player works as before
I hope it stays this way.

alfred
I've just updated to latest Oxygen on my Huawei U8800, and was having that same issue.
After reading this post, I've updated with TB the application "[Playlists] Media Storage 2.3.7 (10)" and it solved it.
It seems that my custom playlists of the music app were causing it...
Anyone else having issues of the albums flashing once you are trying to open it up to view the pictures. I thought I read somewhere that there was a fix for this. Anyone have an idea? Thanks in advance.
Not sure what you mean by flashing, but I assume you mean within the Gallery photo/video viewer. I can't even get my Picasa albums to show up, much less flash. Consider yourself lucky...lol
Use gallery3d or picasa tools from the market to use as the replacement gallery on the phone. The stocker has known bugs and the only known 'fix' is to do a master reset which would wipe everything on the phone and be a pain to restore unless you have a backup.
I have the same issue as well as the 75% upload 25% grey pics when using the stock and gallery3d. If you use picasa tool the pics upload fine as well and neither have the flashing issue.

Well everything uploads fine. I know about the 3d gallery, but I'm not rather fond of it. I was hoping there would be someone who ISN'T having this problem that might have a different plugin (apk) that they could share with me.
Hi !
I solved this by clearing cache and data from app Picasa.
Go to Params > Apps > Picasa and then clear data and cache.
Then it works fine for me.
Hi there, I've posted about this very problem too (gallery won't open /load)
and when i brought my phone into the shop where i purchased it thay said that the phone is faulty They've ordered me a new one!!!! I've tried to do what was suggested and went into apps but it doesn't gine me the option to clear cache or clear defaults (these icons are unlit). Think i'll just take the new phone their offering
So as many of you have already heard, Instagram dropped for we Android users about a week ago. Google Play won't let me find the app, so I downloaded the latest apk and installed it using a file manager. The app does everything fine except let me upload photos. It'll allow me to take/choose a photo from my gallery, crop it, but crashes at the filter screen. Has anyone looked into this at all, or am I just gonna have to avoid this app until I choose to upgrade my phone?
Oh, and I'm running CM7 if it matters at all.
100 Views and no responses? Looks like we're all screwed huh? XD
Might be. Didn't know about this program until today.
avoid app until you upgrade your phone i ran into similiar problems with my hero
I managed to get working by downloading and installing the apk itself

Are you trying to process pic from gallery and not from the current pic you took with the camera?
The issue happened when I process pic that I just taken. Once issue happened when I process the pic that I took from stock camera. And second time issue happened when I took picture from Instagram camera.
In both ways, app read the pic from gallery. Am I right?

That's a problem with instagram , even myself have the same problem. Instagram cant process picture from the Gallery. So you must process it immediately after you took it from camera. Also the ugly thing when you try to load from the galley you notice the confirmation message at the back the Green and Red button, when i use it for the first time thought someone was calling. LOLS, so live with it or uninstall
I picked a existing picture from gallery and it successfully uploaded. But when I select the picture that just taken by camera it hangs.
By this, it means I should give it a delay. And then upload pic on Instagram.

Are you rooted and running a custom ROM or are you stock?
If you are rooted, flash the attached file. It's the newest GL 218. It helps FPS and boosts the performance of your device. It will also help with your Instagram issues, specially if you are rooted, the older GL versions had issues with it.

So does 213. I was meaning my attachment was the new 218 GL that had functioning Instagram. Not that the new 218 was the reason.

I wanna say there is a way to flash even though you have S-On. I always root, so unfortunately I don't know the process or any guide that might help you.
You might want to check into that. There may even be another way that I am not aware of. It's something worth looking into if you want to fix instagram.

My phone suffers from the same problem.
I believe it has something to do with the HTC Gallery because in AOSP/CyanogenMod ROMs this never happens to me. After you share a photo from gallery and it hangs, if you check your DCIM folder in the SD Card after 5 minutes, the .thumbnails folder has a lot of space taken. (Mostly from 500-1.5GB for me) If it's empty the app hangs and freezes. Don't know why but thumbnails folder get full after the app freezes and those files are temporary and get deleted after some time for me.
You just gotta live with it and hope you're lucky if it doesn't freeze, or use an aosp rom.

I am also having the same problem. It's driving me crazy having to take off my otterbox and removing my battery every time I want to post a pic. Nothing has been working. Clearing data, uninstalling, force stopping, my phone just keeps freezing.
If memory serves, it's to do with the OGL that HTC have used. If you want to fix it, you'll need to use a custom ROM.
fix
installing Instagram to the Internal Storage fixed this ! ...but filters don't work all the time
I'm using MildWild's Rom (HTC Desire), it has this option to install apps to your internal, even though app2sd is installed
other solutions I found(didnt work for me, might work for others) were:
-Instagram>Settings>Advanced Features>Use HQ Image Processing
-Go to Developer Settings>Force GPU Rendering
-Crop/resize to 612by612 before uploading (Filters work if I use this)
-Dont use filters
-Use instagram itself to take teh pictures

try to clear the cache and data manually via setttings > apps, Not all 3rd party apps do a good job.

My wife was having issues with her feed (she has a galaxy s blaze 4g), ao I am guessing that there may be an issue with the app.
