[Q] First custom rom, any recommendations? - HTC Sensation

Hi,
in 3 or 4 hours my friend comes with his Sensation to me and I'll be rooting and unlocking his phone (as I am experienced and own DHD and have sdk and everything installed). Could you recommend me some custom rom to install on his phone later on? It's going to be his first custom rom and it is his first android smartphone so I thought I could install some Sense 3.5 roms to show him all the eye candys at first, so that he knows what his device is capable of . Could you recommend me some stable and (well, possibly) fast sense 3.5 rom? And he's been complaining to me yesterday about battery life so maybe I'll ask him whether he prefers eye candy or battery life. If he says battery, could you also recommend some AOSP or MIUI roms? As said before stable and fast, with everything working. It's his first rom, I don't want to disappoint him, because it was me who got him into Android, he was previously on some symbian crap .

I would probe say arhd 4.1.8 prity simpol for him 2 get use 2 at 1st

Android Revolution HD, Insert Coin or for pure eye candy (and stable-ness) you want Coredroid or BlackIce

I prefer Stock Euro Sensation LE

Bah, Try CM7 to show him an AOSP ROM. (or even MIUI not tried it personally for ages).
Seriously though, I'd download a few and play with then to show him how easy it is. Especially show him the nandroid backup/restore from CWM so he can easily regress to an earlier version, even his stock ROM.

[Q] best ROM ?

which is best custom rom for HTC D s ??
Stable for daily use
Good battery life
fast performance
No bugs
Best... hmmm, that's quiet personal.
I tried LBC Saga 0.5.3 which worked very good, but because off some minor issues (probably my own faults) I changed to Virtuous Unity 1.27...
So if you ask me --> beautiful sense 3.0, no lag/very smooth, better batterylife than stock, ... = Virtuous Unity 1.29!
However, like I mentioned, LBC Saga Mod is also a very good ROM...
Try them both out for a few days and see for yourself!
It's personal indeed but I think the Virtuous Unity ROM is the most stable version.
try miui

I really like Cyanogen on my old bravo desire. There is an unofficial port for the new saga desire, but I read it has GPS issues. I use my GPS daily so like the OP, I am wondering the best custom rom that has NO BUGS.
Going to try this virtuous one everyone is raving about.
Virtuous 1.29 and MIUI!
I've tried all the ROMS for Desire S and for me Virtuous 1.29 is the perfect ROM for our desire S! I love the full sense 3.0 experience!
MUIU rom is also great but it's not yet stable.

Ok, i tried virtuous 1.29 based on recommendations in this thread and others. I really like the look and feel. Could easily get used to it.
Some major issues restoring my backups though. A lot of the apps just won't work once restored, just get a force close button. Perhaps cos I am restoring from Cyanogen which I think was A2SD+ enabled? Would that cause issues?
OK, FIRST,Since you say NO BUGS, Don't try MIUI or CM7
For your first ROM, I'd recommend LBC Mod, the Dev provides a lot of support, it's close to stock and has all the best parts of Sense 3.
After that,Try Virtuous Unity.
Virtuous Unity ROM. Only bug I have faced is voice search does not work. Apart from that, it's perfect.
I've played about with LBC, Cordroid but have settled on Virtuous Unity.
To me it's just more stable but that's just my personal opinion.
The solution to voice search problem for Virtuous Unity v1.31.0 ROM
If your voice search does not work on Desire S for VU v1.31.0 ROM,
you may try the following steps.
1. extra the following three files from "/system/lib" in saga_lbc_mod_v0.5.3-full ROM:
libaudio.so
libhtc_acoustic.so
libvoicesearch.so
2. use the three files to replace your files in /system/lib/ on your Desire S.
3. reboot
it work for me.
good lucky!!
I use LBC and am aware of no bugs within it (that don't occur across all ROMs).
I've tried the other ROMs but always end up coming back to LBC.
IMO it's perfect, has Sense, is fast, decent battery life, it's close to stock and has good user and developer support and regular upgrades...

I tried Virtuous as my first custom ROM but didn't like the 3D homescreen. Also it feels laggy and some things look weird from the 16:9 to 15:9 resizing. Maybe it's fixed in the newer versions i don't know.
So i tried LBC since it's still using the 2.1 launcher. Had a couple of stability issues but it's fixed by using stock kernel. Now it's rock solid.
I didn't like the 3D Homescreen, too. Right now I'm back on rooted Stock ROM. For me the most useful ROM was LBC with update 0.54. Will try this again with stock kernel an new radio.
I tried Virtuous yesterday but for me is has now good battery life (though there are other oppinions) and, but I'm not shure, the camera app isn't working well indoors. Made some pictures and I think the stock app works better.
+1
used lbc mod and virtous today. going back to stock.
Great ROM,
Dont really like the customizations on lbc.
virtous. again great ROM, but personally dont like the way sense 3.0 uses upp sooo much RAM.
tested them each for 10 minutes. going back stock rooted rom. anyone suggest any customizations for a rooted stock ROM?

most of the customization on LBC rom can be removed easily
& custom ROMs take more RAM to make the device faster
after flashing a ROM you need to give it some time to see it at its full speed as it take time for the rom to setup things, give it a day or so
if you want animations you can try spare parts+ & anim mod(paid, you can also get this effect from uot kitchen)

I just tried leedroid ROM, really impressed with it! You should try it out! I removed most miss from it too, so pretty much stock now.
BTW, do you know how to change the HTC keyboard with arrows back to the old HTC keyboard without arrows?

i got bored and decided to try out all the roms and the only one i could see myself using was cyanogenmod. I think most the roms are stable so it's just about personal preference.

[Q] Stock vs. Custom ROM

I got my sensation last week. It's rooted, and clockwork is already installed on it. I had CM7 on it for about 5 minutes, but I liked the Sense UI better so I just went back to stock because I didn't have time to look for a SENSE Custom ROM.
I'm wondering if it's worth it to go off stock and go to a Custom Sense ROM? I saw Android Revolution HD, and I think the only step I'm missing is that Radio S-OFF.
Anyways, is it worth it to go to a Custom ROM or just stay stock? It's pure preference probably, but pros, cons kind of thing I'm leaning towards yes because I like that ARHD 1.5ghz oc. =)
Im using ARHD 3.6.0 and im loving it.
Better battery, snappier, plus you can flash themes and mods
I would definitely go with any custom rom over stock.
If you rooted with revulutionary you are good to go (already have radio S-OFF)
i like Sense 3.0 but CM7 have more performance
just got my sensation yesterday and played around all day in stock just to get a good feel for it before going to a custom rom which was a definite. i went for android revolution and it's definitely snappier. apps load faster, and the ones that access the web seem to do it faster too.

I didn't root using the methods of revolutionary. If I want to install Revolutionary how would I go about it? I can safely install CM7 already. I still have to do that Radio S-OFF don't I?
Is it just me or does the use of the word "snappier" as in, "it feels snappier now" make you feel that it really isn't much of a difference? When I used to want to tout the speed of some device or app I would say it was faster but I would use the word "snappy" if I couldn't really justify the use of the word "fast".
That being said, when I moved onto the Sensation I tried to go through all the hoops to get off stock but then realized it was just a waste of time considering my Sensation is perfectly fast and stable as is.

Follow this method to get S-OFF, from what I read it also RADIO-OFF's for you as well. Its what I did to flash rev. HD
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
That's the method I used to S-OFF. Is it the same as Revolutionary's Radio S-OFF?
Try pyramid3d. Its a good rom

[Q] Is there the ROM that contains only HTC kernel?

Hello.
I'm looking for the modified HTC stock ROM that is wiped out of everything HTC bloated there/changed to AOSP apps. I don't want any of the HTC apps, sounds, icons, themes and lockscreen because I hate them.
The result should be the excellent stability kernel without anything I didn't installed myself.
Unfortunately, AOSP ROMs from kristofpetho or SelfKang do not meet the stability requirements and atm I have to pray to them to release something that will not annoy me with fc's of the apps I'm using.
Please, help if you can

Last I checked cdtdroid made a nice senseless version of pyramid3d
Melvin had made the beast Rom and senseless extreme. I believe they both used stock kernel. There is a video up on YouTube for the beast Rom. I think he stopped supporting them and went to the GS2 forums but they are pretty solid. I used senseless extreme for a while and it was great. But I had a sense calling again and am now on bulletproof.

Insert Coin new version 3.3.9 is with stock HTC kernel. Rom is pretty good.. Fast, smooth and stable..
Use the Revolutionary process (S-OFF, CWM & SU) on a Stock ROM.
Then use: ROM Cleaner - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1217664
That way it's completely stock, just minus some stuff.
I'm looking for the modified HTC stock ROM that is wiped out of everything HTC bloated there/changed to AOSP apps. This is slightly more than difficult as they're based on different frameworks (probably the wrong term). You need to either go Sense (cleaned in some manner) or go fully for AOSP. I know that ARHD has a Senseless cleaner, not used it personally as I went straight to CM7 when it was available.
Unfortunately, all "no sense" variations of HTC ROM still keep the icons at least. Seems like it is just impossible to get rid of them.
Thank you for your answers. I'll wait for the stable AOSP ROM or the new Nexus - what will be released first.

Best Stable Custom Rom?

Which is the best ICS stable & beautiful custom rom for HTC sensation?
I have seen lot of roms and i m really confused.. can anyone pl suggest one or two?
Thanks
Omg there is tons of thread like this ! Im sick of this seriously it just depends on peoples taste go try a rom and see for yourself if you like it or not ...
Its like asking what is the best car to drive ..
It just depends on you..
Not trying to be a douche or anything just sayin.

Sense 3.6 I'd say ARHD
Sense 4.0 I'd say OrDroid or InsertCoin.
But try a few and see what works best for you as said above.
no issues buddy.. i was just curious to know which is more stable as i m new to this..I will try those one by one on my own.. thanks..
ive had a pleasant experience with virtuous inquisition, eye candy w/ stability
if u like sense try android revolution hd
Ordroid!!

I just flashed over Ordroid a couple of days ago sence 4. I was Amazed at the available customization during flashing with Aroma installer and AFTER installation with Ordroid tweaks! I just LOVE the options available to me! Is a stable rom, I get WiFi but not tethering. But besides the tethering its AWESOME so far! So much depends on what your personal needs are but by your post it sounds like you would really love ordroid. Little customizations make it uniquely personal. I highly recommend you try Ordroid 8.6.5. Sense 4 is amazing! But what like most is the ability to custoize. I don't think you will be sorry if you choose Ordroid!

VI v4.0.2 works a treat for me!
Stock T-Mobile Sense 3.6 Elegancia rom. ****ing awesome! 1.1.0 to be exact. It's the stock rom with nothing added, just rooted.
Would definitely recommend Virtuous Inquisition v4.0.2
If you're more of a sense person, why not try Ordroid(Sense 4.0) or InsertCoin(Sense 3.6)?
Thanks guys got lot of info abt three custom roms... Seems ordoid and VI are the best..i m not into more sense but would like to try once sense 4.0...
Also i just rooted my phone and s-offd it. And downloaded some custom roms btr everywhere it says one warning that firmware should be 3.30 or something..and i have stock firmware 1.52 something.. I guess i need to upgrade it but got confused after seeing lot of threads..

bro, if you're new to rooting and flashing new ROM, i suggest you to try ARHD first because most of the guide are using ARHD as example. i started rooting two months ago, and read most of the info from there.

Yes upgrade to 3.32 firmware BEFORE you flash any Ics rom. And yes you will love ordroid especially if you like customization! Sense 4 is wonderful! Never had trouble with it yet. But please remember the firmweare is EXTREMELY important, you will get into trouble if you try to use any Ics (4.0.3) rom with out upgrading the firmweare first. So please upgrade to the 3.32 firmware FIRST. Hope this clears up the confusion and helps! It's very important you do this without question if you want the Ics Roms. Which your saying you do. Have fun and good luck! I know you will just love sense 4! Happy flashing!

Thank you very much everybody..i updated it to 3.32 and flashed it worth custom roms..i tried ARHD and VI and both are amazing.. Battery life has been the best..i have put ordroid on download and eager to check it also..never thought it would look so beautiful with those roms... Following i have downloaded:
ARHD (5 out of 5)
Energy (not tried yet)
Opensensation (not tried yet)
Hypersensation (not tried yet)
Virtuous Inquisition (5 out of 5)
InsertCoin Evolution (not yet tried)
There are lot of roms for this phone. Wish my razr also had roms like these.
Thanks

Best Sense Roms
OrDroid with sense 4.0, most bloatware removed, frequent updates, bugs HDMI out, WiFi Tether,
InsertCoin same as above, different theming
Team Pokemon, new sense 4.0, same bugs as above, however, Pokemon team has great tweaks as well as some of the best dev's, including the dev on OrDroid,
ARHD is the best sense rom without bugs, however Sense 3.6 with most bloatware removed, updating is slow, however, due to stability or the rom isn't a problem
You can try them all, you will end in the Elegancia's threads anyway!
I'd give Cyanogen Mod 9's Nightly build a try. I flashed over from Android Revolution HD and I'll never go back. The entire build is sleak and smooth. Android 4.0 brought a whole new way to see things when it comes to Android for me.

Best ICS ROM ?

Hello all,
Sorry for this daft question, but haven't been on here for months. Just wanted to know the best or most common used ICS rom you guys are using on your Desire S as I'm well behind.
I have a UK phone and was unlocked using htc dev. I only want to upgrade if all features work. Any reccomendations ?
cheers
S-off it for wider costum rom support, and flash Fallout 5. It's on Sense 4, and pretty stable.
Wrong section, reported.
Please keep questions to q&a section.

True, S-OFF it and get whatever ROM in your DS, switch between ROM easily.

I think, one of the most stable and pretty working ICS is Fallout 5.
Used it about few month, all was fine.
Now using Jelly. Not so stable and some functions didnt work correctly, but its faster

well to be honest custom roms arent for everyone, i know its tempting to want to flash a custom rom and see if things are better, but if u r happy with sense then i suggest just use the ruu from htcdev.com to get the official ics update. i have been using it since a couple of weeks and havent had any issues with it other than whatsapp hanging when u try to open link received through whatsapp. other than that its been smotth sailing, better than gingerbread and sense 3
i have used the miui ics rom and didnt like it much other than that i have tried the cyanogenmod 7.2 for desire s but my personal opinion is that custom roms are not always the most stable and if u r not into heavy customization then i would suggest just skip flashing a custom rom and stick with original htc rom.
cm9_nk111
ICE_DS is the one i choose. Stable and fast, no problems with.
But i think it's time to try Fallout.
