[Q] ubuntu not windaes - LG Optimus 3D

Morning chapps.
can any one offer a guid on basebanding in ubuntu.
i can get gb via your guides working ok bit no network i am assuming this is due to old 2..2.2 base?.
Problem is i ditched ms yonks ago and cant connect my o3d to the update tool via wine.....any ideas?

Do you have a spare PC you could install the Windows 8 Developer Edition on? It should work sufficiently to be able to do the update.
There is also official Windows 7 SP1 ISOs available to download, you can install it without a reg code and it will run for 30 days. Its likely a lot easier than trying to flash from Linux.

Radio Roms in Cab form?

Hi guys first post here. I just went through the headache of removing vista and installing xp so that i could flash to the latest crossbow, then put vista back on without realizing i forgot to put on the tmobile uk radio. Is there any way to install this with a cab file? The vista RUU trick doesnt work for me at all. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I think you're stuck. You have to be able to access the bootloader via USB - which forces your hand with and you're stuck with XP.
You might investigate running a dual-boot machine. I run 2 x 400 gig SATA drives in Raid 0 (for speed), then partition them into 200, 200 and 400 gig partitions. The first is for Vista, the second is for XP, and the third is high-speed storage. I keep another 400 gig SATA for backup storage. This config works very well, and lets me bounce back and forth between OS flavors very easily.
It's even handly to keep a copy of Koppix Linux around - just in case you need to run a CD only OS for emergencies...
thanks man. i ended up doing just that. The dual boot setup is working great.
Rather than dual boot (which requires rebooting to switch) you can also do a Virtual Machine. VMware Player is free, and you can use http://www.easyvmx.com/ to create the files it needs. Then you just startup your virtual machine (its just a window running on your current WIndows setup) and install XP, or whatever OS on it. Now you can run XP under Vista (no reboot required) and do whatever you need.
Ah but you then cant flash your phone under a VM machine so kinda defeats the object of it! But I use a Virtual PC for testing my website templates under old IEs on XP.

Hmmm. I've seen a couple of posts here where people have flashed from a virtual machine (or claimed to have done this). I haven't tried this myself though.

CustomRUU.exe problems in Win7 Retail(FIXES Posted)

for those who "own" the retail final version of windows 7, when u try to run CustomRUU.exe or RadioRaphael.exe youll get an error either the 0xc00007b or something random that wont run the program, already tried to run it in compatibility mode but theres no go, its a compatibility issue with the program, i even tried running it in admin mode and nothing, troubleshooter says its not compatible, best thing to do is if u have a backup laptop or pc with XP, vista or any of the beta RC1 builds for windows 7 is to run it from there, until then hopefully someone will get a fix for this, this is just a little heads up for anyone that has the retail windows 7...
if u dont have this issue on win7 retail plz let us know, and also for those who knows a fix for it, would be great...
here are one of the fixes thanks to gmanfuzing and jtantley

its got nothing to do with your OP , it has to do with the fact that when you unrar this version its all wonky with %20 all in the name , remove the %20's or just unrar it to an actually folder or just flash from your sd card (sd card flash is highly recomended)

Just change the name of the folder. I had the same problem, something about the long time with the spaces screws it up.

By the way, heres a picture of the error if u ever do come across it...
I have had no issues with Windows 7 and flashing Roms. Thanks for the fixes to your particular issue though.

confirmed to try the fix and theres no go, im guessing it has to do with ur build version of Win7? because i rename the folder to a short name (EX: ROM) and i still get the error btw Win7 version build is 7600...
The only real fix
The only fix for this is to use a newer build or the full release of windows 7. I got the full retail version from Microsoft (I am certified so I get it early). It fixed my issues with this. So I would suggest wait a month buy the full version and you will be good to go.

ermm i do have the retail version of Win7, clearly 7600 IS the final version and is the OEM....
I have had no problems flashing from 7100.
I thought Windows 7 came out 10/22/2009...So how do you guys have it?
i've got the RTM of Win7 and have an issue where the app will run and get my device to enter bootloader, but then it will not progress beyond 0%. anyone have similar issues? i had no problems for months on vista, so i'm betting the folder path length isn't the issue.

MSDNAA access through IEEE (i am a college student, unlike the rest of the people who pretend)... $15, got 10 Windows 7 Pro RTM (7600) keys... used/gave away 3, still have 7 left
best deal ever
// though you're supposed to only use MSDNAA for educational purposes and no commerical... think that applies to my current situation, so nothing wrong here
flashing CustomRUU through Win7 RC had no problems, haven't had the time to flash the latest EnergyROM on my W7 Pro RTM, maybe in a few weeks time when i'm not that busy
lol i'm an Uni student and i get the license free from MSDN lol
of course, there're custom versions out in forums if u know what i'm talking about, and it's amazing, Windows 7 is actually heck a lot better than Vista & XP combined, and i use a lot of custom XP and it's just amazing, no lag whatsoever, and my laptop sucks so it's a good thing.

[Q] sdk tools for xp

is there a way to install the sdk phone tools on xp? I have the 6.1v and visual studios 2010. But when i try to install it says i have to have win7 or vista, and i cant put win7 on machine cause it only has 128m ram. I have a patch file that is suppose to let ya install but haven figured out how to yet.
There are ways to get it installed but the emulator requires Directx 10 so that's not going to work. Without the emulator all you can do is write and compile code but not test to see if it works or not. Not very useful.
XP barely runs on 128mb of RAM so I imagine Visual Studio would be absolutely miserable to use if usable at all.
If you wanna develop for WP7 I guess its safe to say it time for an upgrade.
i would say so as well. even a netbook has more capabilities than that
Im not much of a developer in some ways so as for now all im wanting to do is use the toms installer or the reg sdk deployment tool witch i have but when i try to launch program i get this error:
Could not load file 'Microsoft Smart Device.Connectivity,10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its
dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
Then when i try to install the Microsoft XNA Game Studio 4.0 windows phone from the WPDT_RTM_en_iso
i get this error: Microsoft xna game studio4.0 phone ex require visual 2010 or WPDT. install the required app and then relaunch setup. " witch i have the visual studio 2010 installed"
and i have a win7 netbook but have managed to have a kid that spilled tea on it so am trying to figure out the way to do this untill
i can afford to get another netbook.
Thanks for the help and replies guys, very appriciated!!
Ok so I got the xna game studio 4 to install but still getting the phone device connectivity error, is there something I can download to get by this and use the deployment
guess no solution huh
i don't believe so. the way i did it was to use a virtual machine so i could get the phone emulator working on an xp machine (virtual machine has windows 7 on it). but you don't have enough ram for that. you need at least 1.5gb dedicated to the virtual machine alone.
You can try this solution here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9618980&postcount=81. I just couldn't get it to install still as I kept getting an error saying could not install the following component .NET Framework 4 Multi-Targeting Pack.
i finally found a iso file and downloaded it then opened up the baseline.dat file and edited it according to the patch settings and everything works just like it does on win7 netbook, just wanted to see if it was possible and it is!
Thanks for the replies.
Could you share that info? Ive been dying to get SDK tools on my XP... Thanks

Can you please share that? I have 4 XP computers at home and neither of them can run it. It would be great as I need the SDK to run Chevron unlocker! Thanks!
Link pleaseee
I so desperately need this also
for those that want the tools on windows xp, here you go: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2010/05/02/10005980.aspx
I finally got it to install on XP!
Here's what I did,
Download the .iso file (it's at the bottom of the page) :
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=04704acf-a63a-4f97-952c-8b51b34b00ce
After, make a new folder on your desktop and extract the ".iso" file into the folder.
Next, I grabbed the ".zip" file from here, : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9618980&postcount=81
Take the baseline.dat from the .zip file and replace it in the one with the extracted .iso files. Then just run setup.exe from the file. It should work! But make sure you have about 3 gb free from your hard drive. And emulator doesn't work, but I'm sure its fine if your not a developer.
Remember to hit the thanks button if it worked for you!

[Root Question] Windows 8

So, A few months ago I downloaded and installed the developers preview of windows 8. I liked it a lot and backed up my windows 7 hd, wiped and fully installed windows 8.
Well, I bought the HTC One S yesterday. Amazing phone.
My problem, I can't root my phone because while installing the htc drivers it comes up with "~ doesn't recognize this OS" or something like that. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Tom
Maybe you should revert back to windows 7 then if the drivers wont install, Its pretty much impossible to anything without drivers

I figured that was the easiest solution HOWEVER I really dont want to spend 3 hours of work (Backup windows 8, delete, repart, load and install windows 7, root phone, delete, repart, load and install windows 8) for something that takes less than half an hour to do.
If anyone has any nice work arounds i'd really, really appreciate it!
What about installing some kind of virtual machine and Win7 or even XP on it?
can't you find any kind of driver that will install on WIN8?

I would try installing the Windows XP mode (virtual machine) if Windows 8 lets you, as mentioned above.. or perhaps download TinyXP and install as dual boot. maybe even a live install to a bootable usb drive.. although I've never been able to get that method to work well.
Or! I'll sell you my HP TC1100 already set up for HTC & Samsung phone modding!

[Q] Windows Phone 7 on Windows 8

Hi,
I've recently upgraded my laptop to Windows 8. On Windows 7 I had Zune, Dev Tools, Xap Deployer, etc to connect to my phone (Omnia 7.5 dev/interop unlocked). How can I do the same on Windows 8. Couldn't find Zune for Windows 8.
Tried searching the forums but searching for "windows 8" just gives results for Windows 7.8.
Any help is much appreciated.

Just go to the xbox music site and download zune again. And go to the apphub site and download the windows phone tools again.
Everything you had on windows 7 will run on windows 8. I just slapped Win 8 on my laptop and just finished installing the dev kit and zune. Took me about an hour to do.

I read somewhere that Zune Software is not compatible with W8. I tried it also on W8 CP without any luck. I guess I should try on the released version now. Downloading...
Btw, what version of dev tools did you use? Can you post a link?

Naw, the Zune software is fully compatible with W8. I just finished importing my music library from my phone to my laptop.
Anyway, I downloaded this ...
https://www.dreamspark.com/Student/Windows-Phone-7-App-Development.aspx
Not really sure what version it is. 7.1 or 7.2 or something?
Zune works perfectly on Windows 8.
For the developer tools I think you should use these:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35471#overview
"The Windows Phone Software Development Kit (SDK) 8.0 provides you with the tools that you need to develop apps and games for Windows Phone 8 and Windows Phone 7.5."
Thanks guys. Zune worked. Installing latest dev tools from jjuki's link.
