[Q] N64oid issues on Kindle Fire - Kindle Fire Themes and Apps

I was pretty excited when I picked up my Kindle Fire to load up some classic N64 titles on it. N64oid ran pretty well on my Droid X and it runs incredibly on my rezound, but it is pretty laggy on the fire and has a lot of issues with the graphics. I know with the internals of the fire it should be able to run it easily, so I'm curious whether it's simply an issue of n64oid not being made to support the fire. My Fire isn't rooted yet so I was also wondering whether any of the rooted users running CM7 and other custom roms were having the same issues.

The fire has only 2 finger support, how do you play an n64 game without a controller?

I saw a guy using cm7 on youtube and he runs n64oid just fine, seems pretty smooth, no lag.

I'm having similar issues. I'm using Go Ex Launcher to run N64oid, and most games work well, but stuff like Mario Tennis, NBA Live 2003, and Fifa 64 are laggy as heck.
I tried downloading chainfire 3d pro to help, but having trouble getting it to find my plugins which I downloaded.
Should chainfire 3d help my kindle fire play N64 roms better?
Thanks

I am running version 2.3 without chainfire and its really smooth, the first version I tried was really choppy and did not have a lot of textures.

Would you give Fifa 64 and Mario tennis a try and let me know if you notice any lag during gameplay? 80% of the games work, but those two in particular are brutal. I had version 2.3 as well

Games that work well with ChainFire 3d

Hey Peeps,
Been wanting to do some gaming on the DC but most of the newest cool games run at a crawl on this device (or is it just mine?) I decided to get Chain Fire 3d and see if some of the texture settings will improve performance. Does anyone have any history with this app on our device and successful settings for any of the following games?:
Shadowgun (I think I just have to wait to upgrade to play this)
N.O.V.A. 2 HD
Back Stab HD
Captain America
Nova 2: wont run, I'm thinking because it's not officially supported for whatever reason. It says I haven't purchased it even though I did on a previous device.
Back Stab: OK, but sometimes will get laggy and freeze 7/10
Where can we get plugins?

A lot of people has found that Chainfire improves phone performance overall. You can check the following thread:

Emulators

Is anyone else having trouble with playing emulators while HDMI outing to their TV while playing emulators? I tried some different test cases: Playing a mix of the different *oid emulators just on my phone, while using a ps3 controller, and while using a ps3 controller with the output being displayed on my TV. The only case in which I got unbearable lag and stuttering was when I use outputing to my TV through a monoprice MLH adapter. Everything ran smoothly otherwise. Furthermore I ran Cool Tool in the background to watch my cpu usage and even though it was lagging the cpu usage wasn't spiking or getting very high. Is anyone else having problem with HDMI out? I don't know why this faster phone can't even handle something my slower year old Atrix could
I believe most emulators aren't coded properly for ICS. I gave up on them for now. If you want a little boost, try out the dual core mod.
I have also noticed that emulators don't work as they did pre-ICS. My galaxy s2 running CM7 ran bit64/n64oid much smoother than my HOXL does on Clean Rom 2.6.
This is very infuriating. Using it as my phone as a retro game station used to be one of the biggest things I did with it and now I can't. Which emulators have people tried that don't seem to work that well on ICS? So far I know the oid ones at least don't seem to work too well.

Yea from my understanding a lot of emulator dev was being completed a while back, and then everything was taken off the market. A few new emulators are poping up again but they don't seem to be optimised for ICS or JB. A real shame as I too enjoyed the ol Mario 64 and GoldenEye.

I don't have any trouble with FPse (psx emulator) lagging, but then again it gets updates every week. Gotta have my twisted metal!

How many pages back did you have to go to find this thread lol. But really since then I've found on most emulators the games are actually playing at full fps just fine, it's the audio that is lagging which makes playing them unbearable. On all of the oid's I was able to get no slow downs in video just fine. It's just the audio that sounds like crap. The DAC on these phones just seems to really suck.
Download the slideme market, and search "yongzh"
Hehe

The latest update to fpse made everything silky smooth and perfect audio. Runs at 160 fps so I had to use framelimiter in the app settings so everything wasn't running so fast lol

That's what I'm wondering. I have been trying to play FF9 for ages and just can't get it to run smoothly since he started trying to use opengl (started back on my Atrix) and just gave up. I tried again today and still no good.
I don't use opengl on mine. Although it makes a few things look prettier it messes up a lot of the effects in twisted metal, mainly smoke and water. For now I'm content with the default render settings.
Ah yeah well even my Atrix can do full speed software rendering with fpse. It looks so bad though especially the ff games which looked so good.

will all games old psx games work

will all the old psx games work on xperia play. so if i did get a file for a psx game that i have somewhere in my loft would i be able to use it on my play
No, unfortunately not all old psx games will run correctly. There are a large number that will though, and as far as how to run them, it breaks down into 2 camps.
1) PSXperia: Uses a trick to repackage psx files into apks that the built in emulator can use. Just do a forum search for find out more about it.
2) FPSE: An app in the App store that uses a more traditional approach to emulation imo. There is setup involved, and you will need a psx bios, but you can run iso's straight off the memory card, and it has a pretty large compatibility base.
The only game I can't get to work on fpse is x files. All the rpg's I tried work. Unfortunately there is no analog support for fpse unless your using ics Rom.

Ahh mate, you are lucky then. I have yet to get SaGa Frontier to work, or anyone else I have talked to. You can go the openGL plugin, but then the lag eats you up.
I wish I knew enough about driver optimization, because I am sure that with a little work the plugin could be kicking on our device. Yes we are weak in horsepower, but I think we are far from wringing out all the performance from the XPlay.

N64oid and the Transformer

Okay, my favorite thing to do with my Transformer (even though it is HIGHLY unproductive) is to play Mario Kart 64 with PS3 controllers on a big screen TV via an HDMI cable. Unfortunately, the damn thing lags A LOT sometimes. I was wondering what settings/configs other people are using to get the most of Mario Kart 64 and other N64 classics on their Transformers.
Thanks!!!

I've noted that trying different emulators (and versions) for different games gives different success. For Mk64 I use the latest N64oid and it's decent (Other ems lag horridly)
What helps a Great amount for me is overclocking from default 1.0 (I run 1.2 though, guevor's default) to 1.4 or 1.5. That reduces lag ALOT and makes it a tad more playable

Mario Kart 64 is definitely my go to game for N64oid. I haven't gotten around to trying it on the TF101 but Ive noticed on my G2X which also has a tegra2 the free version is MUCH smoother than the paid version, However The paid version is the only one that I can get multiple controllers working with. Not sure if using HDMI has any effect in this but it does on GTAIII and a few other games.
