I have numerous issues with the PPTP VPN client included with Froyo and Gingerbread, rendering it virtually worthless.
My understanding is that the ICS VPN client actually works. It supposedly allows traffic through the VPN while being able to specify a different gateway so that one can be connected to the internet on the phone while passing PPTP traffic.
Would pulling the APKs related from ICS be possible, or is it much more complicated than that? I don't want to buy a Galaxy Nexus just so that I can use VPN properly.
(I'll actually post my findings with Galaxy Nexus VPN functionality when I get a chance to try it out in the Verizon store.)
Have you tried the Samsung Anyconnect app? It doesn't list the Charge but that may be due to it coming out pre-update. I was able to connect wirh it although thats all I tried to do.

I host my own PPTP server with DD-WRT.
I don't deploy a Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance system. I thought it might be possible for the Anyconnect app to hook up to my VPN anyway, but it doesn't seem to work.
I confirmed that the ICS VPN client does function properly. I wonder if porting the ICS client to the Charge is possible. Could it be as simple and copying the APK?

Anyone know of a working VPN client that will allow me to connect my Sensation to the company Cisco VPN? I've tried various VPN clients but none seem to work with Cisco servers.
There is an official Cisco VPN client on the market, for free..
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.cisco.anyconnect.vpn.android.htc
But this is only compatible with Sensation XL, not Sensation, so won't let me even install it.
What kind of Cisco hardware are you trying to connect to?
I have an OLD VPN3005 concentrator at work, I'm stuck...so I use Splashtop for remote desktop and go that way.
I believe the anyconnect will only work with newer ASA hardware.

No idea what the hardware is, it's on the other side of the world in one of our head offices. I just know the ip address and passwords. I guess it's the older stuff though as it's the same stuff I've been connecting to on my laptop for at least 10 years!
Anyconnect will not connect to older hardware, I'm in the same boat as you...
Is it safe to assume you use a VPN software client from Cisco to connect with a PC or laptop?

Yeah, on a PC I use "Cisco Systems VPN Client" if in windows, and in linux I use openvpn.
Both just need a vpn ip address, a group authentication name and password.
Once connected I then need my standard doman network/password.
All the VPN apps I've tried from the market just don't connect to the address.
Same here. DNS name or IP address.
Group name and password, then domain ID.
You have older hardware. You can use ShrewSoft as your VPN client as well, but you'll have to have a Cisco Config file to make life easier.
Your hardware is simply too old.
Coincidentally, on my HP touchpad, HP's WebOS has a VPN client built in natively that works perfectly for exactly what you and I are trying to do.
I've tried and paid for several VPN clients for Android on Froyo, GB and ICS...and none will connect to our old hardware.
If you happen to find a working solution, please let me know!!
There is actually an openvpn client for the phones...
https://market.android.com/details?id=de.schaeuffelhut.android.openvpn.installer
But it requires a working tun.ko module compiled for the particular kernel.
This is going a bit beyond me, I just want an app I can install and run!
Yep...been there too.
Code writing and kernal writing is WAY out of my scope as well...LOL.
Try VpnCilla on market. It worked for me
Also VPNC Widget can be of help if you have rooted phone.
Is there anyway this can be achieved, I have access to a VPN which is based in the US but how can I set up my device (htc one x or sensation) so that my hulu app (which works on my device) can run via a vpn only (not my gmail or anything else just the hulu app), this way the hulu service will get an ip from the us
Reach blocked US Websites through a Proxy

Well on a PC I use a Highspeed US Proxy from proxybonanza.com and the ProxyBonanza Plugin for Firefox.
http://proxybonanza.com
On Android I have not taken the time to get it up and running yet since most Proxys Apps require Root. But basically it should work the same way. Get Autoproxy light or similar from Google Play store and use a us highspeed proxy from proxybonanza. In theory it should also work with a VPN but remember usually the bottleneck is the upload speed on the other end of the VPN. Proxybonanza costs a little but it is also very reliable and fast. The Firefox Plugin is very nice. A Android Proxy App from them would be great but as far as I can tell does not exist yet. If you try it out or find other solutions let us know. I am sure there are others interessted. There might be solutions along the lines of editing headers and block ports but I did not look into that yet.

I'm trying to network my devices together as best I can for transferring files and also for backup purposes. I already have my router/firewall open to the web and sitting on a sub domain of my website (password protected of course). I'm using dyndns.com and my router has a DNS updater in it.
I had thought to do the same thing with my phone. Wasn't sure exactly how much control Could have remotely but if I could at least be able to ftp the decade that would be great. Anyways, it looks Luke AT&Ts proxy servers do not make that possible.
I suppose I could setup a VPN tunnel but I don't want to have to tunnel all of my traffic through my office connection 24/7 and at the same time I don't want to have to keep turning it on and off.
Any suggestions?
Use airdroid it's in the market

Thats for WiFi. I need to get past AT&T's proxy servers for the dynamic dns updater to work, or so I think.
Anyways, I was able to install VpnRoot and that works quite well for connecting to my vpn server. I imagine I might be able to tunnel to my office network, then use the dns updater but thats just too much work involved.
Hello everyone,
Currently my lappy uses Nortel (XEAN) and a grid card to connect. I called my company support but they are not interested in helping me.
At this writing, I have been lappy-less for the last 3 weeks. There are 2 tasks that I cannot perform and this is one of them.
I was going to try Cisco AnyConnect ICS+ from the store and see how that goes.
Any and all comments or assistance is welcomed!
Thank you and Regards,
would like to know how you progress
We also uses VPN to connect with home pc/laptops to the office but I would LOVE to use my note 10.1 instead.
So, if you make any progress, please let me know.
THanks

If you want a home personal server, and have a spare android device lying about, you could try "servers ultimate" from the playstore with "openvpn"by openvpn, from the playstore, i sucessfully tested a connection between my tab and my phone, server on the phone, client on the tab, simple enough, servers ultimate after setting up the vpn server profile, it lets you export a file with the settings needed for openvpn, it was quite easy to setup.
I dont know if this is what your looking for, and im pretty sure the secure connection was over network only, as im still to unknowledgeble on these things, all i know is, apparentky there is a way to put an "internet" ip address on a vpn server profile, so that if you connect to a public wifi network like you find in stores, you can vpn to your android device at home acting as your vpn server, making an encrypted connection through the public wifi, to your android vpn, and then your vpn server would pass through YOUR home internet, while protecting your connection on the public wifi from any prying eyes who may be using apps that sniff the network data, i believe, like the apps on android that "sniff" out facebook sesions....for instance, not something i use personally
A benefit to this is that your not paying an unknown vpn to pass a "secure" connection through THEIR systems in between, you control, that in between, or at least, better control, over your own private property......i dont think its able to spoof ip address, if thats what folks might be looking for, but the servers ultimate app is pretty extensive, and my knowledge withese things is limited, so for those looking, who knows what their doing, might be worth checking it out (i wouldnt mind a small setup guide, if someone manages that)......if it makes a difference, your also able to setup a proxy server, although i never did figure out how, hell, aint to sure what it does ...........
well, hopefully this helps
Greetings! For some time, I've been wanting to setup a VPN server at home so I can "dial" in from Wi-Fi hotspots out in town and secure my traffic.
My first thought was to build a VM on my desktop and leave it running 24/7.
A low-powered solution might be turning my old Android phone into a VPN server.
Any thoughts on how to accomplish this? I have a Nexus One that is just laying around....

This is exactly what I am looking to do, but in a little different sort of way.
I want to leave my old phone hidden in the rafters connected to a wifi from a haircutting place next to where I work. Then tunnel to the old phone from my various other devices encrypting my data through their .IP. I all ready use their wifi for all my torrenting needs but think that not having to be there navigating on the phone would be nice
did u tryed app droidvpn?
It would be great to setup a vpnd on our Android. I'm looking for the same solution.
DroidVPN is a VPN client, we are looking for a VPN Server on Android.

Any Luck with the attempt? I've also been thinking of the same thing.
We just released Servers Ultimate which in the latest update allows you to turn your Android device into a VPN Server
So now you can leave an (old) android device at home and connect to it when you're on the road. Have a look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1829334
Let me know what you think of it!
Bump... Any other options on this?

It's a bit expensive just for VPN server (and it has too many servers)... I would rather have one app that does only one thing...

Guys, and what about vpn server like on linux? As for me I'm trying to make vpn server available from mobile network, maybe with the help of some messengers (to send new conf file as host ip has been changed). Any ideas? Or, maybe someone tries this?

I installed meefik's LinuxDeploy (found from Google Play) to get Linux running; and I do not have luck with setting up VPN server (OpenVpn setup from Jonah Argon) yet.

Here is the same. In my second apartment the internet site is not block and it wise to keep my old android phone in my second apartment and install VPN server. and installing VPN client in my home pc, office pc, and even other smartphones. In this way i will able to access all web sites. any idea how i can accomplish this.
One of idea i though would be small notebook that running windows and installing VPN server in it such as Sony Vaio VGN-P11Z/R
I turned a rooted Android phone into a VPN server by using the Linux Deploy app and UNIX tools "busy box app" then running CentOS on Linux Deploy. I installed SoftEther VPN Server on CentOS through SSH on the phone.
I wrote about it in a forum. If you google "Turn a flashed to verizon phone into vpn server" it will come up in Aspkin forum and you can see me work through it.
This way is 100% free and SoftEther will tunnel straight through a firewall using port 443 unlike any paid app so you can leave the phone hidden anywhere connected to WiFi and as long as you use SoftEther Client and the DNS host name to connect to the server. It wont work if you use a openVPN or L2TP/IPsec client without opening ports on the router of the wifi connection, or the server IP address (which would be a local ip if connected to wifi hidden somewhere).
