Need help tethering G Tablet to Moto Droid 1
OK, I have tried everything to get this to work. I have tried TnT gapps patch in boot recovery and side loading and no go.
I have tried editing wpa_supplicant file in wifi folder both manually and with a mod that used g script as a toggler between infrastructue and ad hoc, no go.
Droid will ad hoc to Apple iPod and iPad and laptop running Windows XP with no problems, just can't figure out how to get the Droid 1 and G Tablet to ad hoc and also want it to ad hoc and connect to my router in infrastructure mode. G Tablet does connect to infrastructure router with no problem.
G Tablet and Droid 1 are both rooted. I am using Root Explorer to edit G Tablet. I am using Wireless Tether on the Droid 1. I have tried Barnacle too. Nothing works to get the two to link together.
I want to continue to use the stock UI on the G Tablet.
Here is device specs:
G Tablet: Stock UI rooted
Android OS Ver. 2.2
Tap UI Ver. 1.1-3389
Kernel Ver. 2.6.32.9-00000-10.8.2-dirty
hudson(at)tapntapsvn
Build Num. FRF91
Droid 1: Stock rooted
Android Ver. 2.2.1
Baseband Ver. C_01.43.01P
Kernel Ver. 2.6.32.9-g68eeef5
android-build(at)apa26 #1
Build Num. FRG3D
(Parenthesese around (at) in Kernel Ver. due to new user rules about links)
I have been at this for days and can't figure it out. If someone has a true step by step or can offer any help to get this going it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance,
Brian
install the 3389 performance pack. This fixes adhoc and installs gapps.

Read this to understand standard recovery if you dont have clockwork recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=892090
Read this to install the right clockwork if you want to make your life easier.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
The first post of each thread explains everything. The biggest reason to flash clockwork recovery is to repartition your sdcard to avoid problems later. There are a couple of known issues with the stock TnT 3389.
The tab seems to get stuck at a low cpu speed when waking from sleep. It takes a reboot to fix this. You can flash a custom kernel to fix this.
The tab will delete your media files from your external sdcard if you don't put an empty file named ".nomedia" in whatever folder your media files are in.
Well so much for that. I installed the enhancement pack and now have zero conectivity and don't know what to fix now. At least with all of the other mods it was easy to back out of.
WTF!!! I am about ready to take it to the shop and run it through the table saw.
How do I recover it now???
P.S. I read all of those threads you posted before I posted. I tried to install the generic one before but not the enhanced one. How do I recover it???
Read the update.zip thread I linked.
Install clockwork and install the 3389 update stock rom. Wipe data/cache
If you don't want to install clockwork then download the 3389 update and the clockwork 0.8 zip.
Unzip clockwork 0.8 zip to the root of a micro sdcard
Delete the update.zip file
Open the recovery folder
Open the command file in the recovery folder
Make sure the line has "SDCARD2" and NOT "SDCARD"
You can edit it. Make sure if you do it doesn't add a .txt extension to it
Rename the 3389 update zip file to "update.zip" and place that on the root of the micro sdcard
Insert micro sdcard in the tablet
Boot the tablet holding the Power/Vol+
Hold the Vol+ until you see " Recovery key pressed"
Let it install and reboot and you should be back to stock.
Install the performance pack the same way.
If you install clockwork recovery you don't need the recovery command file to flash roms. I can't recommend strongly enough to install clockwork recovery to do this and to wipe data/cache
I think your problem has a very simple solution because I have had this problem after the wifi teather app recently updated all I had to do is go into the wifi feather app and select a channel I choose channel 11. Then I went into settings on the tablet and wifi network I pressed menu advanced and choose channel 11 also this fixed my issues hopefully it will fix yours I too use a Motorola Droid 1 and a G Tablet my tab is on vegan5.1 with pershoots latest kernal my D1running the latest bugless beast with jdlfg 1125 Kernel
I was able to install clockwork mod so far but I am still working on getting the enhancement to load. It aborts install. I will try to re download it.
Neither enhancement works. Clockwork mod works, it starts to load the fine then quits with a prompt, (bad) cannot load file. 3389 and 3452 both come up bad. I re downloaded both several times form all of the sites still hosting it. Some of the sites had the file removed.
Why is this not working? I followed it to a tee. Same procedure as installing clockwork mod. Command file is formatted correctly and directs to the proper folders and drive. (SDCARD) I also cleared the cache and did a backup.
Any other suggestions? Thanks for the help so far. It at least installed clockwork mod. I did at least figure out how to return the wifi settings to allow infrastructure to work. Every time I try to install this it skews the file and permissions. I can at least return it so it is still useable but would really like to get the ad hoc to work.
I also tried WPA, no encryption, changing channels, changing IP addresses, and just about every other setting on this.
Tablet has original OTA update from 12/25/10 then rooted.
Once clockwork is installed you no longer need the recovery/command. Make sure the 3389 performance pack is a .zip and not a .rar. If it is .rar then you need to "unrar" it.
Place it on the internal sdcard and select it in the clockwork recovery menu. Don't use Rom Manager.
None of this is working. Error comes up:
E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted
I have tried to re download the files, I have just renamed them, I have pasted them into an already labeled zip folder, nither option works.
I use the manual install on CWMod so I know I am choosing the correct file andf it just says that it is bad.
Is it possible that the download file is no good? When you said to "unrar" it is that simply changing the file name or is it copying to another folder or extracting the file??? If the file is bad then I am just going in circles but if I am doing something wrong (which I don't think so) then I am missing something.
After a reboot I need to go into the wifi folder to open permissions for the wifi to connect again and then it will connect to my router but not the droid.

I dunno if this will help but i remember on my droid it never liked working with a files named update.zip in cwm.. change the name of the file and then apply it
"rar" is another file compression like zip. On windows download 7zip. It will allow you to "unrar" ie "unzip" the file. I just checked and the performance pack is a .rar file. You can't rename it to .zip. You must extract it using the unrar file extraction tool. There will be a .zip inside that that you can flash
That was it!!!! Thanks for all of your help and for replying. The 7zip did the trick. I was unaware that the zip format was different.
Very cool. Works on Droid 1 wireless tether.
if the files you are downloading are in RAR format, you cannot simply rename them to ZIP. You will need to use a WinZip, 7Zip, or some other utility to extract the update.zip file from the file you downloaded.
Once you have extracted update.zip to your PC, you can then connect your g tablet via USB and connect that way. Copy update.zip to the folder of your choice and then reboot into cwm to install the update.
Ok, the new flash works, ad hoc now works and it added the market and the stock android camera and some other things. Here is the new issue and I will just continue in this thread since one relates to the uprade of another.
After the upgrade, the internal camera will take pics an are viewable in the "gallery" but any jpg loaded into the tablet via usb or e mail are not visible. He gallery shows a blank thumbnail and opens blank file as i the image was there but no actual pkc. I saved the pic in DCIM, camera, thumbnails, andro, sdcard, etc... and the gallery will pick up all of these files but displays blank thumbnails and blank photos.
I realize that th original camera and viewer were different than the android camera and gallery. Th problem is that I want to be able to view e mailed photos and imported photos like it used to. As I said it does store and view pics taken with the internal camera but that is not of real importance here but a fix woud probably fix all of it.
Anybody have a patch or fix for that that would not undo any of the other changes? Also, a patch to usb tether a droid or other mass storage device?
Thanks in advance.
You can attach a fat32 external HD to the Gtab. The externally powered ones seem to work more consistantly.

Hi,
I have a UK Milestone with stock Froyo rooted.
I followed all the steps (flash SBF, install open recovery, etc) but when I get to the part where I'm in the Open Recovery menu and select "Apply updates", all I get is a "go back" option, even though the proper CM7 zip file is in the SD Card's root.
So what could I be doing wrong?
Can I just try it with CWM, as it worked flawlessly with my Defy and Advent Vega?
Thanks for your help.
You need to put update zip with CM7 to /sdcard/OpenRecovery/updates folder, not to root of your sd card.
Don't use CWM on Milestone - it is not 100% compatible with that device.
the CM7 zip file should be on the OpenRecovery/updates folder, not on root. Then, when you go to the Apply updates option, the update.zip file for CM7 should show up on the list. Just select it and go ahead.
And no, don't ever try CWM on the Milestone, it won't work.
Gosh, how could I have missed that within the installation guide?
Thanks, guys.
Hey all. I did something silly and deleted a file in system/bin folder while troubleshooting a problem. I made a backup of the file before deleting it in sdcard/download but my phone wont boot so I can copy the backup file back to system/bin. I am able to get my phone into download mode and I believe I could copy the file via adb. However I do not know how to get adb to recognize the phone in download mode. I type...
adb devices
and it states "List of devices attached" and there is nothing under the list but when I plug my phone via USB it shows "SAMSUNG Mobile USB CDC Composite Device" in device manager so I know my pc is recognizing it. I have used adb before with batch files like 1click root and things like that so I know its just me not knowing the right commands to get my device recognized.
Any and all help is appreciated! I just need to copy 1 file from sdcard/download to system/bin and I would assume it would boot back up with no problem!
Thanks!
do u have cwm installed?
I just installed CWM v5.5.0.4 via download mode using this method. http://www.theandroidsoul.com/skyrocket-root-clockworkmod-cwm-recovery/
So now that I am in CWM I am trying to mount things like /system and it shows an error mounting /sdcard and I get that error messaging for mounting all except mount usb storage which works great. I was however able to get the file off my phone but now how do I get the file back to system/bin?
Yes.. you can (and really should) flash CWM from download mode via your PC/laptop. A few weeks ago I did something very similar and soft-bricked my SR by renaming an in-use file (framework-res.apk)... I also only had 3e, so couldn't just restore a nandroid or flash a rom zip. Go to the Dev section and find the thread by Copperhed ("Root the ATT SGH-I727 Skyrocket..."). read through the OP and follow instruction exactly. You will be Odin3 flashing just the CWM recovery partition... this will NOT trip your flash counter. If you are already rooted, you should retain root... if not, you can root via his OP. After you have CWM recovery, there's a way you can mount the sdcard so you can transfer files between your PC and SR... then, you can put the sbin file back and see if it reboots fine... if not, with CWM installed, you can flash (via zip.. not Odin) any rom/kernel/modem zip package you want.
Even though I installed CWM from a different source I thanked you anyways DoctorQMM! Now that I have CWM installed how to I transfer the file from my pc to the system/bin directory? I have been able to mount usb storage and it show up as a drive on my pc but when I mount /system nothing shows up. What am I missing?
Thanks for all your help! I am almost there! ^_^
hey, I recommended it first . Seriously though, download a kernel from the dev section, any kernel. Open it up in winrar, winzip, etc... and delete everything except the system folder. Now take the bin file u copied to ur computer and put it in a folder called bin. Put this bin in the kernel zip inside the system folder. Now delete everything else in the system folder. Put this file on a microsd, slip it in ur phone and flash it through cwm. this will put the bin back, and allow u to reboot phone
JDub... PM cdshepherd.... he's the one who shared with me you can use the mounts and storage option in cwm (then click "mount USB storage")... then you can copy files between your sd and computer without having to do what I did (which was pull external sd out of SR, mount in micro adapter, plugged into laptop and loaded files on the sd... then put sd back in phone.. booted into CWM and flashed the rom zip I put on there). Yes.. you are close! If you can't get that one file back to sbin on root, you could try to flash a stock rom/kernel zip (KK1 or LA3)... you only need to put that rom/kernel zip on your sd or external sd so CWM will see it.
icenight89 your right you provided the inspiration so I thanked you as well and appreciate the explanation. I will perform it now and see where I get. Let me understand this correctly in steps..
1. Download a kernel, any kernel.
2. Open it up, delete everything except the system folder.
3. Create a folder named bin and put the backed up file in the bin folder.
4. Delete everything else within the system folder except the bin file and bin folder. So it should be /system/bin/xxx.file
5. Put this on a microsd card and flash it through cwm. I assume I do this by selecting "install zip from sdcard?"
Thanks for the continual help! ^_^
I am having trouble with the kernel part. I downloaded a i727 kernel from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1340114&page=2. Opened it up and it has boot.img in it. Am I missing something?
Alright. I downloaded the kernel from here http://www.mediafire.com/?85g701ate11zdc9. The kernel contained a folder named system and deleted everything else. I then added the folder bin and added the backed up file I deleted to the system/bin/ directory. I then mounted usb storage via CWM and put the new .zip in there. I then selected "install zip from sdcard", "choose zip from internal sd card" located the zip file and selected "yes." I then get the following read outs...
Installing update...
Installation aborted.
--Installing: /emmc/sgh-1727-skyrocket-att-original-kernel_2.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...

So it looks like it is not installing. Am I doing something wrong?
wrong kernel, download this one:
http://faux.androidro.ms/sky-kernel-010b1.zip
delete everything from in there except system folder, including boot.img, and follow instructions again, should work

download a rom from Dev section. Doesn't matter which one. Try silvers rom you'll like it. Mount USB storage in cwm. Copy rom to sd. Eject SD from computer. Go back to main menu in cwm. Wipe data/factory reset. Wipe cache partition. Wipe dalvik cache(under advanced in cwm) format system under mounts and storage. Back to main menu in cwm. Install zip from sdcard. Choose zip(rom) you just placed on your SD. Flash it. Reboot device. Enjoy. And make a nandroid after it boots for the first time.

Did you make a cwm backup of rom you were using prior to this?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
No, I did not make a nandroid backup. I had to install CWM from download mode and then I was able to get into CWM all without booting.
I appreciate your time in writing a solution however I am not interested in wiping everything and starting from scratch which is what your proposing. I simply deleted a file in system/bin named mediaserver so system/bin/mediaserver. When I rebooted the phone would not boot. I made a backup of the mediaserver before deleting it and placed it in the sdcard/download folder. All I need to do is copy the mediaserver file back to system/bin/ directory and phone should boot backup as if nothing ever happened. That's is how I understand it. Its just missing a file and I know what the file is and I have the file I just need to figure out how to copy it back over to where it belongs.
I do know how to install stock and other roms but after spending numerous hours on my first phone, SGS Captivate, to experience others roms like Darky's Rom the end result was that it was not worth me having to keep up with all the releases and bug fixes, loading in working kernels to make things work correctly and the like. I would rather just stick with stock. Its just a personal preference.
If anyone knows how to copy a file from my pc or from internal sdcard to my Skyrocket using Download mode or ClockWorkMod using any means but without wiping my data please let me know. Eventually if I do not get a solution I will be forced to revert back to the stock rom but I would rather leave that as a last resort.
I look forward to any other suggestions!
Thank you!
Without the ability to push/pull with adb your running out of solutions. I do hope that you get your skyrocket up and running no matter what method you use. And I do hope that someone with the ability comes along to help you. My way is prob the easy way out. If it were me ide cut my losses. Start from scratch, and try to figure out where my prob starts. Good news is there is a great community with plenty of help. Good luck mate.

Since my zip suggestion didn't work, try flashing a different kernel, romracer stockish 0.3 is a good choice, from cwm

Based on your first post, I don't think your pc is FULLY installed your device. Download mode requires additional drivers.........adb devices should return a serial number.
I have not tried adb on my skyrocket...I will do that for your sake and reply with my experience..
I tried to update my 1.53.401.2 to the latest OTA 1.78.401.2.
But with the normal Android OTA method, it gives me an error that it can't find the 7digital3.0.apk file. Of course it can't find it. I deleted it. But I didn't make a backup of it before deleting it
So I tried to copy the OTA zip to the "internal SD card", rename it to update.zip and flash it with CWM Recovery. This also doesn't work. It tells me, that I have a wrong CID (HTC__102).
Could anyone be so kind to upload the 7digital3.0.apk (and .odex) from the 1.53 rom?
Thanks!
Here you go mate, extract it and you will find the files you need...
If the OTA doesnt work, and flashing in recovery fails, open the .zip and modify the android-info.txt to match your CID..
if you dont know your CID, boot into fastboot and using adb type in ''fastboot getvar cid'' Without quotes
There should be an option to have the updater just skip whatever it can't find or which throws up inconsistencies with the DIFF updating...

I just did that now... Modifying the update script and skip updating the pre-installed apps that i deleted. ReZipped, signed, put on sd card, install from cwm recovery.
EDIT: Everything works except the SystemUi.apk... I had the 1% battery mod.
EDIT2: I reinstalled the correct SystemUI.apk by flashing the stock battery SystemUI.apk for 1.78, but since it crashed the first time, it won't start anymore at boot... Anyone knows how to fix that?
same problem, other apk...

I'm not 100% sure, but I have a feeling that may be related to an incorrect update-binary in the ZIP. Try downloading another Explorer ROM and copying the update-binary from it into your ZIP, replacing the one that's there already. It's located like this within the ZIP: META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary
EDIT: You don't have to download a full ROM btw, any recovery flashable ZIP should do, e.g. one of the custom kernels such as Cranium (smaller download than a full ROM)
Thanks

There is a problem, i use my htc explorer for calling and other works, so whenever i want to check my rom, i have make nandroid backup which takes 15-20 minutes bcoz of lots of apps installed. and after checking the rom i need to restore my previous system which is very time consuming. Is there any other way to check the rom working or not without using it in my explorer, maybe using an emulator in windows 7? if there is an easy way then pls help me on this.
Let me explain you clearly what i am doing.
1. I extraced rom.zip file from HTC Explorer RUU.
2. I placed it in original_update folder in android kitchen.
3. I set up a working folder from android kitchen menu and i got these files and folders in WORKING folder
boot.img
system
META-INF
4. I selected the option 99 in kitchen menu that is Building a ROM.
5. After successful completion i got a zip file in OUTPUT folder.
6.Then, i copied that update.zip file from OUTPUT folder to my sd card.
7. Now, i boot into recovery, and try to install zip from sd card but it shows an error like this
Error in sd-card/update.zip
(Status 0)
Installation Aborted.
Now i dont understand why it is giving me an error even i have not touched any file from the working folder.
am i doing it wrong? pls help me.

I have no idea what you're doing wrong. But I don't think you have tried my suggestion from earlier in the thread.
Take the final update.zip file you have (the one you put on the SD card and try to install), and open it using an archive manager such as 7zip. Navigate into META-INF/com/google/android and delete the file "update-binary" that is located there. Then replace it with this one: http://d.pr/f/VHF1
Close 7zip, copy the ZIP to your SD card and try to install it in recovery.

No. And you can't emulate real hardware on emulators.

Well, 7 > 0, therefore it's better
In all seriousness, I think this means it's probably getting further than before, but there's some other problem with the ROM. I don't know the various status error codes, I just recognized 0 as one I'd come across before. I'm afraid I can't be of any further assistance I don't think.

Solution:- One or some of the prerequisite requirement for the needed upgrade is missing or corrupted . So you may need to identify and replace that requirement for the installation to continue. Most likely could be due to wrong bootloader, wrong CWM, Wrong IMEI, Wrong Radio etc

I think this is the error....
When you setup a working folder then change your updater-script to update script... ( search for the option to change it) if you want to make some changes in update-script Do so and then build your rom... the update-script will automatically be changed to updater-script .. now place the rom and flash.. If any problem feel free to ask
