Usb and sd card reader - Galaxy Tab 8.9 Accessories

Anyone bought USB reader or sd card reader from Ebay? It cost around 10$ and will it work?
Sent from my GT-P7300 using xda premium

i have bought on ebay, but it has not arrived untill now...

i have it! it works even with mouse and keyboard

I got the OEM usb adapter kit that has the SD card adapter as one part and the USB as the other. I plugged a usb hub into the adapter and can run keyboard and usb at the same time. The keyboard I have has a track stick in the middle so you get mouse support too kinda fun.

I bought one multi card reader from ebay but whatever card I tried (micro sd, SD class 10, SD calss 2, SE memory stick) it tells me that the card is corrupted and you should format it. Actually the cards are fine and can read them in my camera, phone or PC. Am I missing something here or it is just plug and play and the reader is not working at all. I has an LED that turns on after I insert a card.

I bought this on amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005UIMPQO/ref=oh_o01_s00_i00_details
So far I have only tested USB storage by flash drives. NTFS is not readable. It shows as Empty / Corrupt. However, if the storage is formatted FAT16 or 32 it shows, reads, and writes just fine.

Do you have a link and or photo?
Just Swyped my first message on my new 8.9 Tab.

I have the same cable as 0okami and its working all right. Sometimes I get a mesaage that a high power USB device is connected, but unplugging the cable (not only the flash drive) solves the issue (unless it really is a powered USB device). I tried also keyboard which worked great as well. NTFS not supported only FAT.
I also used it to connected devices with mini USB (PS3 controller )

I bought the adapter from Samsung. I am only using as SDCARD reader - haven't tried USB. Works great with a 32gb card. However, you must be careful and let the TAB eject the card reader - before removing it from the device. If you don't.. really good chance you will get a corrupt card next time it is installed. The card will still read fine on your computer - but needs formatting to be used again on the TAB. Solution... I put the card in my phone (Galaxy Nexus) and formatted. Put it back in the TAB and all is well.

bought another one from ebay and it works great. both a card reader and a usb OTG with a switch.

I need some help. The problem is this: i have a desktop pc with Windows Vista which has a memory card reader (with SD). Then, I want to copy some documents and other files to a 4GB Micro SDHC memory card which I use with my HTC P3300 but, at some time ago, it passed almost 5minutes so the computer would read the memory card (what I think it's to much because I have a Nokia 2 GB card which takes less than 10seconds to read).
The last week it started not to read the memory card, this is, when I put the 4GB memory card in the memory card reader of my desktop it won't read the memory card!!! Now I can't transfer things to it (because ActiveSync doesn't go on on my PC)!
Is there anyone who can help me? I would appreciate...
Thanks.
How old is your reader?
for instance, my old reader doesn't read HC...
most older sdcard readers dont support sdhc
a few have firmware upgrades for the readers but most dont
some readers can't even be upgraded...
you should check your reader.. go to the manufacturer's website and check if it has a firmware upgrade.
I just don't know who is the manufacturer of my memory card reader... I just know it has a SD reader, MS/MS-Pro reader, CF/MD reader and a SM reader... It came with the computer when I bought it and that's the reason why I don't know its manufacter. Can someone help me?
dude.. there are new card readers which read SDHC.. they cost like 10-15$
go for it
unless you know manufacturer this is beyond help.
(last thing i can think of is that you go to to control panel/system/device manager and look it up to see if the company's name is stated)
Or you can use somthing like WM5Storage as far as I know, you don't need AS running on your PC
with a little luck, you can just plug in your ppc to usb an can access your Storagecard via "My Computer/Explorer"
both work fine for me (and my TyTN with 4GB SDHC
Oh, thanks! I'm just gonna try it... Then I'll reply...
It really works! Thank you very much!
But WM5torage is slower than writing to the card directly (correct me if I'm wrong).
I had (have) the same problem.
My notebooks internal card reader doesn't recognize my 4GB card as well when I run Windows XP.
If I boot Linux it works like a charm...
Looks like a driver issue (at least in my case) but I haven't found a working one yet.
I've allready noticed it... but it doesn't matter... I just have to wait some more time...
I've allready noticed it but it doesn't matter, I just have to wait some more time...
that could depend on the usb connection my Hermes/TyTN just have USB 1.1 and my Cardreader USB 2.0 .. so the cardreader is much fuster

30-Pin USB & SD kit for 10.1 inch works!

I have the USB & SD 30-pin adapter kit they sold for the 10.1 Tab- i tried a flash drive into the usb and accessed files on it, same with SD card.
When i tried a keyboard/mouse combo (actually the original combo that was sold for the Samsung Q1U UMPC) it errored w/ can't support hi-voltage device. Didn't try a powered hub w/ the keyboard (kind of scared of frying it).
Mouse and keyboard works. The output is capped somewhere under 100mA as it gives that error message on stuff the iPad can handle, and its adapter is 100mA. Don't be afraid of plugging stuff in though, it can't hurt the tab
You can't hurt a device with a powered hub. Hubs will only give as much power as the USB spec says they can which all USB devices must be designed to handle. That's why there is a spec.

USB kit not working?
Just picked one of these up from best buy in hopes it would work. When i plug it in i get nothing, no notification and no action. i tried a flash drive 2 mice and 2 keyboards. any ideas?
Reboooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot
(stupid character minimum )
Yep. Looks like everytime i plug in a "high voltage" device it completely shuts down. Have to reboot. I did get it working. Thank you.
Works with SD/Multi card reader
I am using an Aluratek multi card reader and it works like a champ. Can read SD, MicroSD, pro duo ect.
Root?
For those of you that this is working for, are you rooted or not? I can't seem to get the SD adapter to work, even after multiple reboots. USB adapter works fine.
Got these also. For USB drives it appears FAT32 drives are good but NTFS drives are non-functional. Have a Lexar 64GB flash drive which doesn't show but all others do.

Both works for me, both now that I'm rooted and before I was. The Tab doesn't know the difference between the USB and SD adapters, and this is an official samsung accessory, so it sounds like your adapter is broken.

Have been rooted from Day One.
So the original Samsung will work with my 7+ ?
Just for the fun of it, Bluetooth mouse, USB wireless keyboard (with USB adapter), and remote desktop software

issues with 32 & 64gb micro sd card

Hi! all. I intend to buy a Sandisk 32gb class 10 UHS1 rated microsd card. read on other tech forums that such UHS1 rated cards are having issues writing to the tablet regardless of formatting it to FAT32 or NTFS. only way of copying files is using a card reader instead of writing directly to the card via the tab or via the cable. is this true? Is there any thing i should look out for when i buy microsd card? some say that class 10 is not supported or not required. class 4 or class 6 is sufficient. Currently i'm using a 16gb microsd card & its working fine.
yes don't buy a class 10 card it will not work.
class 6 is fine.
Theres a big topic on these forums about it.

Nonsense, I am using a 32Gb class 10 high speed memory card without ay problems. Even when copying 4Gb & larger blu ray movies onto the card it reads & plays without any problem...
Use a memory card reader when copying large files as it's far quicker than using a usb cable.
kanej2006 - have you had success with a class 10 64 gb card?
I was told the P6800 and the class 10 - 64 gb card did not work well. that is good news if it does work.
Recently, I had similar problems with a 64 GB class 6 sd card.
Both 32 & 64gb cards should work. Recently I bought a 32gb memory card and it wouldn't format.
It appeared faulty & I returned it. Once the new card arrived, I inserted it in the phone, formatted it & it's both reading and working just fine...
Unfortunately there are quite a large amount of faulty memory cards, try replacing the card or using an alternative brand...
i am using sandsk 64g sdxc class 10 formatted with ntfs. wanna share my experience
bad experience before: copy a 5g movie file via usb kies - one sdxc dead
current procedure: take out the card. copy big size files via sdxc card reader. so far so good.
i doubt the tf slot of p6800 originally supports sdhc only.
Proof a 32Gb class 10 card works.
Ps. You need an app such as Ntfs SD to mount the card so it will read. The program requires root access.

SD card problem

I can't get Google play music to play my music from my card reader worked on my Nexus 6p but can't get it to work on my pixel anyone got a idea why it wouldn't work?
I had trouble with a usb flash stick. My Pixel couldn't read the Fat32 partitioned stick wanted to format it to some Android format format, so I did. Then it wouldn't play the mp3s from my phone on my friend's amp that accepts Fat32.
You might have luck if you format the SD card with the Pixel then put the files back on it.
I had lots of issues with my Mac Pro connecting to Pixel as MTP or PTP. I hope for bug fixes and performance improvement in 7.1.1

I've just plugged a couple of FAT32 USB thumb driver into my Pixel via a USB C to USB 3.0 adaptor (which Choetech kindly sent me to review), and they worked absolutely fine. Wanted to format an NTFS formatted drive, but that was to be expected.
I'm trying to back up photos from my camera, and I can't get my 64gb SD card to work. It's formatted as exFAT since that is standard for SDXC cards. A smaller FAT32 SD card works most of the time if I tap the right settings after I plug it in.
I am using the included OTG dongle, and I tried a couple different SD card readers. All the combinations of cards and readers work on my computer.
I was able to get it to work using Solid Explorer and the Solid Explorer USB OTG Plugin, but the transfer speed was like 48kb/sec, and it was going to take 300 hours to back up the photos on my SD card at that rate. It's worth a try, and you can get a refund for the plugin if it's extremely slow for you too.
.. and here we see why many phone manufacturers are opt'n not to include removeable storage, even without an sd card, people have issues with their sd card.

There may be reasons not to have internal SD storage, like profit, performance, and maintaining control of the file structure. But that's not a good reason not to have external storage work. For example, many laptops now come with proprietary or soldered internal SSDs and no way to add internal storage. But you would definitely expect to be able to use SD cards with them, for example to get photos off your camera. It seemed to work most of the time for phones that had microSD slots, so there's no reason why it shouldn't work now.
Finally, when the iPad came out, being able to edit photos from your camera was a selling point. I would expect that to work on the latest Android phones 6 years later.

query about memory card size

hi all,
i recently purchased infinix zero turbo 2023 , which has a micro sd card, the phone’s spec says it supports micro sd card upto 256 gb , i want to use 1tb micro sd card would that work, has anyone tried adding memory card higher than what the phone’s spec says , what has been your experience
thank you
Doesn't work: 256 GB is maximum.
I doubt you will find member that has tried, so just try yourself. check /proc/filesystems if exFAT is listed. as long as the phone supports the SDXC standard it may work up to 1 TB, as the address is within range.
0x3FFFFFFFFF = 256 GiB
0xFFFFFFFFFF = 1 TiB
the limitation is maybe just at time of writing the specs there wasn't simply such large SD cards on the market.
so it's tial & error.

No you cant, you can just use sd cards which is 256gb or less in size also if you want more storage try cloud storage
I'm sure it would work fine! Might need to format it first in Android settings, I used to have a ps3 with a 2tb HDD (supposedly not supported at the time)
Never use cloud BTW store your data locally so its literally in your hands not some stranger.

what basically allows you to format them as exFAT - a filesystem developed by Microsoft - and what can hold data up 2 TB.
Take note that it's up to OEM's discretion if they include exFAT driver in their kernel (and executables in userspace) after having an agreement with Microsoft or their partners. So check whether phone's Android can handle exFAT or not. AFAIK only some Samsung phones can.
