need help - T-Mobile Sidekick 4G

ok guys i dont follow this phone much cuz its my girls but i need info on updated with Kernel and heard there was a update for firmwear also
a few guides but old and not updated

You could probably find help in the general section. This is development and help threads shouldn't go here.

The guides are still relevant and as up-to-date as needed. If you were to look around the threads, you would see that the most up-to-date firmware is KJ2, which was pushed out as an OTA update from T-Mo in mid-November. The only custom kernel for the Sidekick is the Bali kernel, which was released for KD1 and KG2 as separate posts, but the KJ2 kernel was never released separately, rather it was integrated into ROM releases.
Please post in the General section and search next time.

Vodafone Donut - Is there a method to root the latest Oct 2009 1.6 release?

I've been using various Cyanogen and Hero ROMs since June and have now reverted back to the stock Vodafone UK ROM. In general the stock stuff is fine, it's quick and bluetooth audio works for phone and media. I need root access though to use Bluex for bluetooth file send/receive and pushing the HTC_IME keyboard
What I'd like to know is does anyone know how to root the new Donut release?
I've tried the Haykuro's rootmesigned but get a FC and constant reboot...it was worth a try
there is already a full solution for you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=565929
I used it on mine and works perfectly, no flaws. Install that and you are done.
yeah there is a way. but im not going to answer because this is in the wrong section. read the stickies up top, search around, then post in the right section and maybe you will get more answers.

Aw gee thanks...NOT
If you don't have anything contructive to add then don't.
I spent hours searching and read through countless threads. For your info I have been installing ROMS since they came out in May (before the Wiki was in place), have contributed and would you believe it I have even been thanked for my help, I am comfortable with using ADB, Fastboot etc, am familiar with linux and have read the stickies.
Is asking about a rooted ROM not developement? Have YOU read the stickies because from what I have read, surprise surprise, in this section there is a sticky up above here about hacking and rooting. As far as I'm aware any developement focused questions would be posted in the developement section not general.
If I'm wrong them I'm quite happy to follow the MODS rules and their directions.
Are you going to repeat your post with questions about OTA updates being in the wrong section too?
P.S. the very helpful 'htcmagic' had already spoiled it for you
@BigRD: no problem mate, glad i could help. I installed the rom above and i am extremely happy with it. I have also installed busybox on it too.
Its much faster that vodafones original.
Hey mate, try Amon_Ra's Donut Rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538645
Very fast and stable with Root and others. I'm using it on my vodafone magic. Works really nice.
Or alternatively just go back to Cyanogen. Its Donut and it has more features than any other rom on this site so...its all up to you
@widezu69 & @htcmagic Cool, thanks guys.
I spent a lot of time with Cyanogen's ROMs up until the Google thing happened and was running eViL's Hero ROMs up to v3.0. I wanted to get back to a smoothish stock ROM issued by my network supplier but rooted by one of the great developers on XDA. I keep finding that other than the Vodafone original and the Google ION ROM bluetooth audio for phone and multi media working at the same time is very hit or miss. Am going to give both versions posted here a try over the next few days
Another one who wants a Rooted Vodafone Donut
I am also searching for a method to root a stock Vodafone Magic 32B that has had an OTA Donut update.
The answers on the thread so far involve flashing a new Donut Rom - my issue is that I have Donut already, and have never rooted - I am assuming the Root instructions included in the Wiki and Relentless Rooter are only aimed at Cupcake.....or am I wrong?
Any help/advice appreciated....
rooting the magic 1.6
Hi folks, dito as above. I've been up half the night trying to work this out. Have recently bought an htc magic from vodafone, and been 'updated' to doughnut 1.6. Not bad, but I'm really keen to get root on this, and eventually install the latest rom from cyanogen...
Seems there are now a few issues for people like me wanting to root their handsets... so far I've managed to erase my user settings, but keep getting errors trying to flash a rom. Followed the link above to nk02's thread, and no luck. Same issue, update aborts. There must be an easier way...
nk02 says his ROM works with 'wipe + flash'. How the heck do I do that? Seems this latest update to 1.6 has made all the other methods of gaining root obsolete... I'm far from a linux novice, and would love some advice here. And please don't tell me to keep searching, solid help would be appreciated. Cheers.

ROM, Kernel, Radio - BUT HOW?

OK, I finally got BakedSnack running on my device, and I love it. I know how to update it and everything so I'm good on that, what I can't find anywhere is an explenation on how to install a different Kernel or how to install "the latest Wimax and Radio"
What does that mean?? Why would I want to install a different Kernel? doesn't the ROM come with the Kernel? what's the difference between the two? And how do I update the radio or wimax? and what does that mean??
This FAQ should be a sticky!

First let me tell you that your FAQ is really a question, and belongs in the Q&A section.
Second, this question is already answered. If you check the stickies here in the dev section there are guides to this.
Try digging through these two.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Supersonic&useskin=vector
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=701245
The second one at least definitely has instructions on how to update your radio. Though I'm not sure the radio image in that thread is current. So you could use the first link to find a current radio image, and the second to flash it.
Good luck
Everything that you want are flashable, just like the way you flashed your Rom. Download and flash, unless their are additional instructions, like wiping. Most roms come with custom kernels, but if you want another one then find and flash.
I Think this should be in the q&a section..
Sent from my Money Printing Machine.
Good answer Brown. Really and truly this info should be in the Wiki ( I did not find information about radios in the wiki in a quick scan-maybe I missed it). There are lots of stickies and posts and sure the information is out there but it is very fragmented and peppered with alot of 'noise' from the various threads. Thanks for helping out the OP.

[Q] [Kernel] Help Making zImage Using KB7/KD1

Hello all,
FIXED: Update for search purposes
Reference: Galaxy S I9000 Q&A Post
Added CONFIG_INITRAMFS_SOURCE="{path to INTRAMFS}" to the make command...
Example:
Code:
CONFIG_INITRAMFS_SOURCE="/home/mark/samsung/drhonk-samsung-initramfs-58586e2/SGH-T959V"
I'm new to all this so please bear with me. I've compiled Samsung's SGH-T959v vanilla kernel (KB5/KB7 & KD1) but when I pushed it to my phone using Heimdall & recovery, it just boot looped.
Googing for the past few days, I think I'm missing initramfs or some sort of boot section because both my KB5 and KD1 kernels are 2.7MB while drhonk's kernels are ~6MB and Samsung's are ~4.8MB.
I've pulled drhonk's initramfs from github but I have no idea how to package it with my zImage.
Can anyone give me a tips/links/advice?
I've been googling for the past few days but have come up with nothing.
Happy 4th all,
Mark

I wish I could help you but it is out of my grasp at the moment.
I think you have posted in the wrong section. This section is for Development. The Communities Development. I think you want to post in the General Section.
Good Luck Mark!
Happy INDEPENDENCE DAY!
why would the development of his kernel not belong in the development section. I believe u are incorrect in telling him this unless he does not intend to share with the community and i don't believe that is his intention. Happy 4th and good luck on the kernel! I will be anxious to test it if u would like Mark. If u get it up and running i would love to use the vannilla kernel!

I am noob fatherof4. I thought that the Development Section was for something already developed and testable. Until today that has been my experience...I thought you had to post something that could be "used".. I should read the Rules again.
I made sure in my reply that I said "I THINK" he was in the wrong section and I thought I was helping him by sending him to the right section.
I am very sorry that I am wrong and I hope I did not mislead him. I too do not believe that he does not intend to share it.. In the future I will reframe and let more knowledgable members decide these things.
Sorry Mark! I will be Happy to test for you also and would love to use your kernel.
Happy Fourth Of July!

What exactly are you trying to accomplish with this? It may be easier to pull the zimage from your phone. I believe the zimage source from android will be missing alot of information to run on the device. PM me I will see if I can help you.
Note: jerryd is actually correct this does belong in the general section. The development section is reserved for work completed or in testing.
Moved to proper forum.
apologies for my being wrong on the placement of a post like this. I learned something new.

Edited the original post with the solution. Sorry for putting this in the wrong forum.

(Help) Basebands

Hi everyone.. i was wondering if someone could guide me in this new world of SCL lol..
i have one with KB1 baseband and i wanted to install darkgen.. will i have any problem flashing it ?
do i have to update the baseband first ?
or i just have to install a rom with my baseband, and that's all i can do to my phone ?
i had a Galaxy 5, and some basebands didn't work propperly where i am (argentina).. i found the original stock Froyo rom with KB1 and just the baseband of KB3..
WHAT CAN I DO ? haha..
thanks
there is no need to create seperate thread for it. there are various guides already available in forum. just use search or see the [INDEX] thread.
Welcome to the forum, congrats on your first post, and your first infraction!
you see, this is a quite active forum with lots of development going on, and theres a high probablity that a general question like yours has already been answered.
Your post clearly shows lack of research/browsing.
And even after going through the various posts you do not get an answer, post in the Q&A section.
heres a thread for you http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1327201.

The "all-in-one-location" XDA Skyrocket General Info/Root Method/Kernel/ROM Thread!
Welcome all SGSII-Skyrocket owners (and anyone else)!
My purpose is to help organize some general info, root methods, kernels, and (constantly updated) ROMs into one thread with links. I do not take credit for ANY work posted in this thread as they should be given to their respective creators (and porters). Also, I am not responsible for any action(s)/damages you take that are from flashing or changing your device from the way you received it when it was purchased. So basically what you do with the information you find here is on YOU!
I hope that ALL questions and requests related to linked content will be posted in the appropriately linked thread(s). Hopefully, we can keep this organized and easy to read and update. Any dates are in a "MM.DD" format and are derived from the most recent date the OP of each thread was updated (in a subtle attempt to continue having devs update their OP any time they update their creations...though our devs seem to be cooler and smarter than the rest IMO ).
[General Information]
(Here will be info and links to info that can be considered useful to all users of the Skyrocket whether they decide to root/rom their devices or not.)

[ROMs]
(With our Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket gaining more attention and ownership, I expect our current developers...THANK YOU!!!!...to gain some new developers that will add to the growing list of available ROMs. There are other ROMs out there (not many) but I didn't want to post links to other forum sites. So instead, I will say this is not a complete list of available ROMs but it is all of them available on the XDA Developers SGSII Skyrocket Forums. NO links will go directly to the downloads, instead they will link to the threads. This will hopefully force people to see any instructions and warnings that are related to those ROMs directly from their creators.)

Thanks for your input. Where do you think it should be? All the linked threads (besides one) are located within the Development section so imo a compilation (or index if you will) should be in the dev section too and at the top. Also, this isn't the first thread of it's kind. I'm sure you've seen a thread like this in each of the dev forums just to bring some kind of organization to the many roms and dev related convos/discussions.
If there is a better place for it to be then run it by the Moderators and see what they think.

Thank you for starting this. I think this does belong in the Development forum and should be stickied once it gets where it needs to be.
Anywho, my suggestion is to add a section for CWM-flashable modems. There are only a couple of baseband versions out now but I'm sure that as time goes on and more updates/leaks come out that people will want the ability to use the one they want with whatever rom.
Ok I'll take a look for the threads when I get off work and add them ...or you could be a pal and PM me the links so I can add them easily. Thanks for your help and opinion!
I will keep this in the development section. Looks like some useful information pertaining to development. Guides are allowed if they are kept up to date

Should we organize the roms by date updated (most recent placed at top of that section) or should we organize it by ciq/no ciq? I'm currently leaning towards by date but it's a valid question.

Seen these threads made before (i.e. GSII i-9100) and the usual rules of [Dev] section is "If you didn't build it yourself, it doesn't belong in the Dev section." Since this is more a [Ref]erence... then....
but its always up to the moderator.
Either way, this is a useful thread
Lets keep this one here, it will hopefully stop some usual questions and give some answers
Yeah I got u cue, I really wanted to plan ahead for this forum and help out the Mods to keep it structured.
Again, if you see anything I can add to this please post or pm me. Also, maybe a message to some of the devs that haven't posted their roms here might be good idea to encourage them to create a thread here on XDA and show that we're being pretty pro-active on making the most out of our awesome device. Thoughts on that?
Please put in chronological order from most recently updated to oldest updated.

I thought the dates after each one would be enough considering the way us programmers are. A dev could revise a rom multiple times in one day, and I go off the date the OP is updated. But, if y'all really want that then um...ok. Anyone else agree with Dan?
Good thing. Maybe you can add links for stock kernel and rom for both Roger and AT&T.
thanks
