[Q] Anyway to unroot without use of power button? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The tiny piece of plastic that is the internal switch for the power button has broken off inside my tf. Is there anyway to unroot without using the power button? I had planned to rma my tf today for other reasons but must unroot and go back to stock first. Help! Thanks folks.
Using latest revolver.

Everything I find seems to require use of the power button. Is there no other way?

Then??after that???
The rom pre installation dialog will come up and ask you for various options like wipe dalvik cache
And then just click OK
But I can't guarantee you that this will work!!

I know of a method to remap your Power key to one of the volume keys, and one of the volume keys to the Search key. However, this remapping only sticks when the phone is booted into ICS. AFAIK the remapping won't help you once you're in the bootloader and trying to access recovery. It also requires root, which you said you don't have...
If you're still interested in this, PM me, and I'll edit this post with the aforementioned method.

mine just crapped out too! what rom/kernel were you using? I recently installed pixie's and glados. The weird thing is that I can turn on the phone using the power button, but once on the power button does nothing.

seems like my button just died completely. I was using stock for a while and the power button was acting up. Then I rooted and went with pixie, and this solved the power button issue. Then just yesterday it acted up again and today it was really erratic. and now it's pretty much dead. if you google "nexus s power button" you will see many people affected by this in the past few days.
i have the same problem, my power button is broken also cant bring it to the repair centre because i imported my phone. But as long as you already have clockwork recovery working properly, you can do pretty much anything: installing custom roms etc etc, in normal usage i use the app "fix broken power button" and that works flawleslly even on ICS.
and if you havent got clockwork recovery, i think there was a way to install it via adb fastboot, not sure how though....
Any idea how to root without power button??
Anyone willing to help me??
I can help
I too have a broken power button, and for me fastboot does not even work!
I have found a solution a made a script that all you need to do is launch with your PC! (credits to saurik for the exploit)
Hope this will help you
All you need to do, is run the script! Then, plug-in your phone (needs to be on with USD ADB DEBUG ON) and done!
You can download it here: http://www.mediafire.com/?qhefhtgs20fdtsd
This will root your phone, and then you can afterwards flash ClockworkMod from the market and then reboot into recovery =)
A work of advice though, make sure to install CyanogenMod7 which has an option to unlock with volume button!
Peace be with you

[Q] Can't get to download mode

How will I flash custom rom when I can't even get to download mode? CF rooting won't help because it requires odin and odin will only detect your phone when you are in download mode. Volume down+home+power puts me to recovery. Same with volume up=recovery mode.

How exactly do you do the three button combination? Do you just press all three buttons at the same time? I suggest you press the volume down button and home button first and then the power button. Make sure you're pressing the volume down part by only letting the least bit of thumb press the volume rocker.
Just out of curiosity, what's your firmware?

I did that already. Volume down first then home then power. This is not my first time flashing and I should say this is the first time that I encountered this.I tried 3 times but it takes me to recovery. I'm on DXKB2 btw.

Just making sure, bro. No need to get mad or offended. might sound like a stupid question but I just wanna know is/was your phone carrier locked at some point?
Anyway if you can't find a solution you can always just fake a problem and bring it in to the samsung service center.

Can you go to recovery? What do you mean freeze at start up? Bootloop? I'm pretty sure you can get to download mode if you're on bootloop. Try it couple of times! Sometimes I failed to go to download too. Make sure you pressed the buttons correctly. Volume- first then home then power.
Hit thanks if you like my post.

Thanks for your reply. I'll keep trying.
Yesterday I still can go to the recovery mode but today looks like it can't. Usually the phone will vibrate when we power on it but now it looks like it won't vibrate. Instead it will on when i press the power button for quite a while and let it go, only it will on without vibrate. So weird..
My phone will always freeze at the logo there and can't go to the menu already. That's why I thought of re-install the whole firmware stuff.

hmm i think there was a promblem while flashing it. are you sure you pressed the 3 buttons download mode directory properly? i used to have the same problems way back while having the phone.
there is my way of going to download mode using the 3 button combo...
1. press and hold the home and the volume down button.
2. then add in the power button and keep holding them.
3. wait for the download mode button appear.
my other way is for rooted phones with cwm recovery....
1. press and hold the home and the volume up button.
2. then add in the power button and keep holding them.
3. when the samsung logo appears, release the power button immediately.
4. wait for the recovery to appear.
5. go to advanced options.
6. you'll find an option there to reboot to download mode.

why not you guys learn how to use "adb"
it is good and fast
1. install the samsung usb driver or if you have kies istall than skip this.
2. unzip and copy all the 4 files ( with out the folder) into windows/system32 folder
3. reboot pc
4. set you phone in setting-application-development-USB debugging mode checked.
5. connect you phone to pc
6. lunch you cmd prompt
7. type adb reboot download, if you want to download mode
8. type adb reboot recovery, if you want to recovery mode
that is
beside, adb also can go into you phone system partition, do the thing like linux terminal.

The device does not yet handle the reboot to recovery command. As stated by AndroSwag, power and volume down, as soon as you see the small script, press volume up. You will see the classic android laying prone... just tap power and you will be in stock (or custom) recovery.

I already have this question up as part of a different issue/question in another thread, but thought I'd double down my chances of getting a response:
I'm on the .30 bootloader; do the newer BLs (eg. 10.44.25) implement Reboot to Recovery functionality? Or is this not related to the BL?

Yes. If you have stock rom you need to be rooted and download an app called rebooter, this app has options where you can boot to recovery. If you are running custom rom this same app will help you to do the same.

I can now reboot into recovery without the use of the app (I hear people have bricked their tabs with it). Anyways, the 10.xx.xx bootloader was the missing piece. With the new CM10.1 builds, I don't have the reboot context menu (I'm sure it can be configured to show reboot into recovery, etc. but have been to busy to play with my tablet) but "reboot recovery" from Terminal works fine.
Thanks for all the replies.

Help!! Stuck on boot screen after update

So my brother accepted the 4.2 update on Thursday. He is stock and non-rooted. When he accepted the update, his tablet was in the keyboard dock. He let it be while it updated for about 2 hours. It was still on the boot screen. Then, he detached it from the dock and put it on the charger. It's been just shy of six hours, and it's still on the boot screen. What should we do?

We don't know what happened. Do you know if the software installed but failed to boot up or it never installed? Obviously it's not doing anything right now, so you have no choice but reboot the device. If it bricked it already done.

Turn off your device, then hold down volume down and power buttons, when you see a white text on the screen release both buttons, now use the Volume down to switch the highlighted RCK to Android icon, then hit the Volume up button twice to execute. This will cold boot your device.

Seems like you're updated to 4.2 but something corrupted prevented it from booting up. Try the same procedures but this time select "wipe data" icon then hit volume up twice to execute it. This is like factory reset.

Hey, Im sorry for hijacking this thread.
But I have exactly the same issue. Expect that my Tf700 wont boot, after that wipe...

Hi all
my P6800 is acting up and I could use some help.
Not sure if something broke due to a fall or maybe it's a software/setting issue but here is what's going on:
- the power button seems to have taken the volume up functionality. sometimes it feel like it's doing both (i.e. volume up and power pressed together) because when I reset I sometimes get to the android recovery page (where you can reboot, update from storage, wipe everything, etc.)
- when I connect it to the charger it keeps going to the lock screen (i.e. I unlock it and after 2 seconds it goes back to the lock screen). it's working fine if I unplug it
Now, I figured I might as well wipe it clean and install the new JB (currently on ICS) but it's very hard to get to the download screen without a being able to hold the power button (for the power+volume down combo).
I did manage to get to it once (I was randomly rebooting while pushing different things) but I can't manage to do it again
so my questions for the pros out there are:
- Any idea how can I resolve the button functionality?
- Is there an alternative way to get to the download screen? I can live without the power buttom if it's a hardware malfunction but I want to at least do it with JB...
thanks
O

I can select stuff in the recovery menu. pressing the power button goes one up and selects (which is consistent of it acting as both power and volume up)

Until OP replies, just a guess ....
1. Root from stock 3e recovery (Chainfire method) power button acting as both vol up+ power
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849235
2. Installed reboot app
3. Booted into DL mode and flashed JB with Odin
4. re-root by same method (if root lost during flash)

Yeap, exactly.
Didn't do #4 yet though. I thought that method (without CWM recovery) didn't work for JB

Not sure about JB, but
With Mobile Odin Pro app you can flash firmware straight from your rooted device and option to retain root.
No need for DL mode
