I guess I'll chime in.
Although I don't have a Samsung or an RC3 I have run into this before on CM7.1 along with many other users.
(Of course, a Data\Cache wipe is always recommended, especially if problems occur after a new ROM install)
Here are my suggestions:
1) Grab the free app Fix-My-Wifi from market and run it. Reboot with it enabled at boot at least once. Toggle Airplane mode on/off before and after rebooting. If this fixes it, Great, you can uninstall the app. If it doesn't fix it, you can uninstall the app and try the next step.
2) Next you'll want to remove any saved/restored APs. You can 'Forget' them one at a time if you'd like, attempting to connect after each removal, but it may be necessary to remove them all. Make sure you attempt to connect from the 'Wireless and Network Settings' too, and not from some other toggle. Reboot and Connect.
3) If that fails, it's been reported that changing the router's password type to WEP only (if I'm remembering correctly) can fix this symptom in some cases, as well as improving the data speeds through the phone. I may have the password type wrong, so try all password types that can be set as 'only'.
If you still cant connect I would redo\retrace your install, ensuring to wipe data/cache and only restoring a minimal amount of DATA with any of your backed up apps. Also, you should avoid restoring any 'System' apps\data (they're the red ones in Titanium Backup).
That's all I've got for ya to try at this point.
If it's still not working, more detail on what you've attempted so far in your troubleshooting and how\when the phone developed the problem might help another XDA'er provide you with a solution.

how about battery back up with cm7.2 mate ??? i asked u question while u r asking ,,by the if u like to say

Prevent 3G connection after starting new ROM/wipe

Hi dev's,
I've troubles with my mt3g(vf) after flashing a new rom or doing a wipe.
Because I've no data rate everytime a new rom starts up I'm spending up to 5 € on a few seconds of data connection, till i can go to flymode/change apn/use a data block app...
And no - I don't need some offers of data rates (in my area I have wifi nearly everywere)
Maybe there is a way to stop the android connecting to 3G, like an adb command (usb debug is off?) or a way to change the apn by accessing the system before booting (in fastboot e.g.) or editing the apn in the rom-file before...
If you have any ideas to handle this, leave a comment please!
I'd like to test more of your rom's this way and instead of paying my provider for nothing, the money is much better invested by buying you a "beer"
so maybe anyone knows how i can pass the romfile check in recovery (while flashing the zip). I can edit the apns in /system/etc/apns-conf.xml ,but i need to pass this check while flashing...can't find any kitchen or so...must be only a little tool...give me a hint, please
This thread should be in the general section. Call your provider and ask them to turn off your data connection. I had to do it some time ago.

Thanks for your help!
I tried this once, but can't then sign into g-account (was neccessary) but good idea, maybe with 2.1 now it will work (you can sign in later).
will try this next time, but it can't be so hard to edit a rom? Because i have done it...only want to make a working rom out of that, which passes the file-check in the recovery... maybe it does a md5-check or somthing else...
btw i think this is in the right category, i try to flash a rom and preventing 3g to connect by adb commands or by editing a rom!

[REQ] Wireless Tether Fix

Please HELP!!!!
After hours of searching I'm seeing people mentioning the same problem with wireless tether as I have however they are mentioning it in their custom ROM thread thinking its only specific tho their ROM but it seems to be a universal issue. I understand there are still many with it working great, so let's not try to turn this into a "mines working great" thread and instead diagnose why it's working for some and not others.
Problem: Computers cannot connect, transfer freezes at 0.4kb. This is the same exact problem everyone is having (those who have problems) with Wireless Tether.
Things I've done to try to fix it:
1. Wiped Cache
2. Restored a Nandroid that was working great
3. Flashed the new kernal
4. Reinstalled AVA's Froyo Sense
5. uninstalled and reinstalled Wireless Tether
6. Tried the new beta version of wireless tether
Please help guys, this is vital to my business needs. I can live with the bugs in the ROM and things but this one I really need. You guys are great. Thanks.
Im having the same problem...bump?
I have the same problem..even madea thread nobody seems to help...
Things I have tried to fix
Rerun the simple rootwiped cache, dalvik cache ,flashed other roms..
Reran the simpleroot which downgraded me than rerooted to the toast method...
And flashed custom roms...nothing
Seems like its working but only get 4 kb down and 2 kb up ,
If I scan I don't see my wireless teether
Please help...

I downloaded the 2.05 and 2.02 from market even beta same results 4kb up and 2 kb down.......I heard unrevoked 3 fixes the issue but want to stay fully rooted

Possible workaround
I am not sure if this is going to help but I took a trip this last weekend and thought I would give the tether a try. I think I was having the same problem you guys are seeing. The laptop would connect to the phone just fine but the internet would just simply not work.
After getting pretty pissed I opened the phones web browser while wireless tether was enabled and boom it started working on the laptop and continued to work for a couple of hours.
When I tried it again later the same thing happened I just needed to open the browser on the phone to get it working. Like the phone needed to be forced locally to make an internet connection.
Chris
I'm not sure what the exact prob you guys are having but maybe this could be of help....
The problem is that custom roms "intregrate" our app into their roms. They don't install it but copy it to /system/app or /data/app. By not installing it a shared library is not copied to the right location! It's not the fault of the app!!!
What you could do:
Remove the preinstalled app from /system/app or /data/app and install it manually!
Download: http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre2.apk
OR install mentioned shared-library manually:
1) Extract wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre2.apk (using winzip/winrar).
2) in "lib/armeabi" you will find a file named "libnativetask.so"
3) Copy this file to your device:
adb remount
adb push libnativetask.so /system/lib
Did anybody found a fix for this problem yet?
I hope you find a fix, all I can do is tell you what I do each and everytime I load a new ROM, or a new Wireless Tether APP.
I open the app, click tether... allow it to get superusers premissions.
Hit menu, access control, and ENABLE access control
Hit back, stop tethering, allow super users premissions
Close APP
Restart app, click tether and connect
I had your problem once, and this method with the newest version cured it. Hope you find your fix
I had this problem a few weeks ago. I was able to fix it, but i didn't document how i did it.
This is how I think i fixed it.
1. Use Titanium backup to wipe data, and then uninstall it.
2. Go into recovery mode and wipe cache partition.
3. Reboot
4. Then re-install wireless tether app (i installed the pre-9 from code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list)
I have a feeling I'm forgetting a step, but I hope this works.
I've never been able to get the market version to work. Always thought it was "old" code.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
I am posting this using wireless tether pre9, on fresh's 3.3 with kingx cfs11 kernel.
Oh to install it. First unistall what ever version you're trying. Then do a fresh install of the download.

I was able to fix by uninstalling and then reinstalling pre10. Just an FYI
At the time I had the problem, the uninstall and re-install method didn't work. I tried re-installing a few of the different "pre" versions. Then I finally tried the clear cache between one of my uninstall/reinstall, and then it finally worked. dunno why, but that was the issue i was having...

Help with WiFi

Hello,
I own a Motorola Milestone (rooted, unlocked). Two days ago a weird thing appeared: when i try to activate the wifi, it goes into a Turning on - turning off - turning on etc. loop and i can stop it just if i activate the airplane mode, restart the phone and deactivate the airplane mode. It does not see any wireless network, i can't stop it and i can't connect to any network.
If i try to see the MAC in the wifi settings -> advanced, it writes 00:00:00:00:00:00 when it is in the loop mode. In the service menu, the MAC Address appears Unavailable.
I tried to reflash different firmwares to solve the problem, but no luck. I reflashed the original rom on it, but also: no luck. I tried everything possible with no luck.
In sys/devices/virtual/net/ i don't have any eth0 folder which i think that contains the network drivers.
I didn't drop the phone, i didn't drop anything on it. It appeared from nowhere. There aren't any other problems with the phone. The bluetooth works fine so, i don't think it's a hw problem (i found somewhere that the two hw modules are the same...it's possible that i should got it wrong).
How can i solve it?
PS: i wrote this here because i saw that this happened to different persons around the world but nobody gave an answer. So, i don't think it's phone related.
If this happened to me I would try this:
1: Nandroid backup+Titanium backup
2: Run WiFi Fixer.apk
if it won't help:
3: Try some other ROMs
btw I don't really understand how did you come up with an idea that this is "Milestone Android Development" thread...
1. I don't have any Titanium Backup or nandroid backup
2. WiFi fixer doesn't work
3. i tested CM7, FroyoMod 2.3.3, CM6, original sbf file...nothing works
I posted this here because the other Milestone threads are not read by most of you.
then RMA it.
After you try to enable wifi, paste kernel log (output from 'dmesg' or 'logcat -b kernel' commands) and main log (logcat) to pastebin.com and post links to it here for inspection.
Is your /pds/wifi/nvs_map.bin file in place?
Hello kabaldan,
I was waiting for your reply master.
The /pds/wifi/nvs_map.bin is there but i can see it only in terminal, with ls, after su. In default file explorer from CM7, the folder is empty.
Here is the output of dmesg: http://pastebin.com/Ngz9iaQU
I'm currently using CM7 RC15 (the last night build).
PS: I promise to donate as soon as i get my money from the company i'm working for.

Sorry to say that, but this is a hardware failure. The wlan sd card does not respond to commands sent to it.
You should send your phone for repair.

Uh... maybe you had a bad download originally. I might try redownloading and then flashing again.
About the modems.. I dunno. It's been working great for me. But wifi won't give me data. But that's another issue.
That's what mine is doing. connects but no data.
wifi fix...maybe lol
to those with wifi connecting but not providing data/actually working just turn off your phone the normal way-hold down power button choose power off. then power it back on and wifi should work...at least it worked for me. let me know if it works for you
here are the steps in more detail:
1) connect to wifi network
2) turn off mobile data and try and use the internet-try multiple websites
*if you can not connect to any websites than continue to step 3, otherwise your wifi is working!
2b) turn mobile data back on-this is to avoid the problem i wrote about under the edit...i cant verify this way will still work.
3) turn off your phone
4) turn your phone back on
you phone should automatically reconnect to the wifi network, if not than connect to your wifi network and see if it works now.
***EDIT***
ok, i left to go pick up my sister from school and found out that my mobile data no longer worked, i just turned phone off and on and it worked again, i tried toggling packet data first. I am now home and wifi still works!
This looks great. However, I just am not into green. Do you know of any themes that may work here?
After reseting the phone about 10 times, i either have no wifi, or no data each time.

[If you are experiencing any issues after flashing try this]
Step back deep breath, regain your patience, and follow all the steps for a good clean FRESH START.
Seriously, get your phone to the most stable backup you have, then follow the simple steps in OP. Clean up the insides real good before placing this nice runner in. Then LET IT SETTLE.
Don't do anything until ALL the scans are complete, let it familiarize itself with native infuse guts again.
Treat this as more than just a port, this is a native infuse and a great solid ROM.
I'll post some tips here shortly, need to compile them.
Are the Infusion GB kernels compatible with this ROM?
Are the UCKK modems compatible with this ROM?
Tips
Okay I'm gonna try to remember all the tips and tricks I used and share them with you all. 1st off this Rom is awesome. If you're having problems it's most likely user error. Nice job Big Fau.
________________________________________________________________
Begin with file organization. You will need to download:
a) SU fix
b) your choice of modem
place them in a file on your sd card (NOT ext_sdcard)
________________________________________________________________
1) start out as clean as possible. Use one of your most stable backups you have. This gets your phone all ready and prepped for infusing a native ROM back on to your phone. Also there is Jordan's instructions for flashing if you want ( flashing tutorial )
2) Now further cleaning up using wiping methods (dalvik and data/factory) I can't emphasize this enough. Start with a fresh base. Once you feel confidently clean step 3.
3) Follow steps from OP:
_____________________________
Installation:
1. Place .zip onto internal SD card
2. Reboot into CWM
3. Wipe Dalivk Cache
4. Wipe Data\Factory Reset
5. Install from sd card, choose the zip
7. Reboot the phone after it's done Installing
_____________________________
4) Very Important! LET IT SETTLE. For real I think maybe it has something to do with the fact that it's a native Infuse ROM, idk but this one needs to sit before you even log in to Google. Let ALL the scans finish.
5) Now log into Google, ect. (choose not to use data packets though until you get the wifi up and running, saves you on data usage) Don't restore tibu yet,
boot back into red Recovery.
6) In recovery flash the superuser fix. reboot, let the scans run.
7) Open Market, download (if you don't already have it) "busybox"
install it and run it (install in xbin when asked) it should say successful when done.
8) In market go to superuser, update. Then open su and update the binary (at the bottom in preferences) run that binary update till you got all green.
9) Boot into Red Recovery.
10) Flash the modem of your choice. I personally am using the UCKK4 and it's working great. oh and make sure to turn data packets back on, if you turned them off. Now restore tibu.
Hope this helps some people to fully enjoy this ROM.
X.
Edit: you can flash the modem and su fix at the same time.

[SOLVED] Wi-fi "memory" reset on every disabling!

Hello,
I got a little problem with my phone (so freak... I'm explaining)
I got a router before but now I changed it, because I switched to another operator. But it feels like the Wi-fi of my phone is not agree with that.
I "forget" the now inexisting router I had and connect to the new one...
...But I do this each time I turn off then on Wi-fi, and even after switching off the device with enabled Wi-fi!
For now I just have to remember one Wi-Fi router (and, thank you Kika Keyboard developers who made an extensive clipboard where I can store my password <3) but figure out what it will be when I'll have to save more passwords! So yes it's annoying. And I also already lost at leat 8 router passwords because of this strange cr*p.
Fortunately I got a Wi-fi retriever app but this is not auto connecting and this is no longer working!
That was the last point: even the router password retriever app is acting like I didn't connect to a new router since its last analyze!
So could you help me fix this annoying bug?
For now I got an hypothesis: I got XPosed and a device ID changer app.
And it contains an useless but impossible to disable option that is "changing the SSID"
Default configuration make your phone to display your SSID. But not with the local variable where your actual SSID is displayed! No, with the SSID you got when you installed the app. So you can connect to another Wi-fi and still got the same SSID (perfectly useless)
Rest of my theory is that messing up with SSID display may cause network state not to be saved properly. But this is only a supposition. And this is hard to figure it...
So to corroborate this theory, a subquestion: What is the local Android variable where SSID is stored? Tried %WIFI, %SSID but it doesn't work. And I didn't found it after a quick search.
Thank you in advance!
Sorry for wasting your time with so much text :/
https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/124792/my-phone-stopped-remembering-wifi-passwords
There are also people conplaining this problem.
In the link pasted on the top, there is a possible fixes for some fortunate people... But actually this doesn't work for me.
-First, ro.secure.storage or ro.securestorage. thing does not exist on my device. I don't even know if it existed on my device.
-Second, there is something about /efs/ss_data, a file that also not exists on my device.
So I don't know if it's because Samsung built it differently or it has been removed. Keep checking...
After a check of my backups I saw that I got none of the file and property mentionned before.
So I'm unable to know where is the problem...

If you're saying that you looked in build.prop but you don't see any lines that say ro.securestorage, you can add those lines if they don't exist. Just edit build.prop and type the line in at the bottom then save build.prop and reboot the device.

This is what I did. Uneffective.
Why? Because I never got this prop before.
I checked my backups where the Wi-fi worked perfectly in case all of this would be due to the fact that this prop vanished because of a dark and random informatic process. And after checks I finally realized that I never had this prop...
Same thing for the file I mentionned before, located in /efs. I didn't lose it because I basically never got it.
So... This means that my device save Wi-fi informations by another way. And because I don't know this way, I cannot fix it...

If you got a different router but kept the same network name and password and didn't change anything on your device, that might be the issue, your device is probably looking for your original router because the information you originally saved was saved while the other router was in use.
Try backing up your apps, app data and settings but don't backup your wifi settings or saved wifi information. Then boot to recovery and factory reset and wipe cache and dalvik/ART. Then reboot the device, when it boots to system, try connecting and signing into your network again and see if it saves it correctly.
If the backups you are talking about are nandroid backups created in TWRP, you can also try doing an advanced restore in TWRP, you can restore just the data from your previously working backup without restoring everything else.

Well, tried what you told me and this didn't end well...
I used to make a factory reset of my phone. The problem was fixed. When I connected to the wifi first time, now each time I disabled and re-enabled it automatically reconnected (auto-connect is miraculous lol)
Then I flashed data back with TWRP recovery (backup by Nandroid app because I got a classical TarFork error with TWRP 2.7.0.1...)
When rebooting to Android it spammed 1M layers of various program crash message box.
Then using TWRP I reflashed this time everything I got then rebooting to Android the bootloader freezed.
I thought my phone was dead until I realized I could boot to recovery again. So I flashed an older backup and lost some data (fortunately I backed up SMS and apk).
My device is safe now, but this misadventure taught me lots of things:
-When I did a factory reset data has been erased, but system still the same and it reworked. So maybe an app is locking my Wi-fi like this. But which?
-Nandroid backup app is NOT reliable. If your device isn't clearly identified your backups are corrupt. Gotta erase all Nandroid backups I made.
Solved. Bug due to a bad TWRP backup. Made a fresh install and everything is fine now.
