I was wondering if there was a way to root the new ota without using one of the pre made roms.

1. Download the superuser package from androidsu.com/superuser and place it on your SD card.
2. Flash CWM via Odin/Heimdall.
3. Start your phone directly into Recovery, do not boot android normally.
4. Flash the zip file that you downloaded and put on your SD Card.
5. Restart your phone.

Hello
Can anyone tell how to flash custom themes
Sent from a rooted nexus s using XDA app
It's actually very simple you flash like you would a rom through clockwork. Just make sure you get the correct theme for your specific rom, place the zip flie in the root of your SD card, enter recovery, choose install zip, find your zip, flash then reboot. After that enjoy.
Moved to Q&A
Can thus be done using the install from SD card option in Tom manager or do I need to just reboot into clockwork

I always reboot into clockwork first. It eliminates the possibility of error on Rom Managers part.
Once again moved to Q&A as it is a question with no theme development
I was wondering if there is a way to download a rom or kernel and save the zip to my SD card then go in recovery and basically install it, without having to use my computer. I can move the zip file to my SD card from my phone but it never appears on the list to install when I go into recovery.

Of course dude, very easy.
1) Make sure you have CWM 5.0.2.0 installed via NVflash. There's a very easy-to-follow post on this in the dev section called "one-click nvflash installer."
2) Download the rom to your phone. This usually works from whatever link you were going to use to download it on ur pc.
3) Turn off your phone.
4) Hold Volume down and power until you see the second LG logo (The prettier one).
5) In CWM, do whatever wipes you need to do. If you're updating, wipe cache and dalvik, if moving from LG-based to AOSP or vice versa do a full wipe.
6) Select 'Install zip from sd card' (or internal sd card depending on where you downloaded the zip file earlier).
7) If its an AOSP rom, also install gapps.
8) Reboot.
9) Done!
EDIT: Sorry I just read your post more carefully. I guess you don't have the latest version of CWM because you say you cant find the file to flash once in recovery, right? The latest version (5.0.2.0) allows you to flash a zip from both your external and internal sdcards so try updating to that.
ohhh, no no no, i think you may have misunderstood my question lol. im already rooted and flashed and everything im just wondering if there is a way to download a rom on my phones browser and have it go to my sd card and then i just go to recovery and install from zip. i tried but the zip file never appears.
When you download something it gets saved in a folder called "Download" in your SD card just go to that folder and it will be in there
Nope not there

It will be in the internal sd card download folder. Not the external sd card.

You either have an old version of CWM, which is showing you the wrong sd card, therefore causing you not to find the rom zip, or you have the latest version and didn't know that it offers both internal and external support.
If you don't have 5.0.2.0 - update.
If you do - check both internal and external sd cards.
I made a mistake during flashing ASUS-HYDRO 4.2-(8/2)-TF300/TF300tg. Everything went fine but I have put img in external card not in sd card. Now and I don't have image to instal in clockworth mode. What is worse pad don't start and I have start screen. What to do?
You made a mistake posting in the development section. You already posted this in general. Just wait for a response.

Install Android ADB (found in the SDK package, check Google if you need help to install).
Then, go to Install from sdcard menu once so it mounts the sdcard, then type on your computer:
adb push C:\myfile.bla /sdcard/
Go back and forth in the Install zip from sdcard menu and your file will be there.
Btw install twrp recovery and you won't have that problem because it uses external and internal sd card

Hi, currently trying to boot cyanogen mod 9 onto my HTC One X (There is no forum on here for this phone, but I believe it may be called the HTC Evo 4g in the US). I am having trouble installing the ROM. I'll take you through the steps I have done:
1. I have unlocked the bootloader
2. I have flashed Clockwork Recovery in fastboot
3. I have flashed CM9 in fastboot
When I reboot the phone, it get's stuck at the boot screen, which I have seen described as a boot loop. So I have booted into clockwork recovery and searched for the CM9 zip file and there are no files found. I have then tried to mount the usb to flash directly from there, but to my understanding you cannot mount in clockwork recovery.
what can I do here?
Try copying the zip rom to your sd card via Card reader
else try copying the zip rom to sdcard using adb push method (for that you need sdk installed in your pc)
and try again.
Wat was exactly your mobile Evo 4G or One X?
Did the installation succesfull?
Did u installed correct ROM?

I have the HTC One X and as far as I am aware I am using the correct ROM. I Have tried a few different download sources.
when doing fastboot flash boot boot.img in fastboot it says successful. so when I reboot the phone it get's stuck at the HTC One X screen. the rom zip file is not found when using recovery. this leads me to think that fastbooting the rom is not pushing the rom zip file onto the internal SD card.
Back to your proposals -
1. The phone does not have an sd card slot, so I can't use a card reader.
2. What is adb? I have the SDK installed, with the adb.exe file as well. Is adb just an alternative to fastboot? what would be the command line syntax to get adb to push the rom zip file onto the internal sd card so that I can find it within recovery?
interestingly, if i factory reset and wipe all cache then the phone aoutomatically boots into bootloader upon turning the phone on. but after flashing the rom file using fastboot, the phone will boot into the normal start up process and get stuck. so it would appear that fastboot is pushing the rom onto my phone. very strange!

Try Clearing cache and data before you install the rom
Follow the procedure in this link
theandroidsoul.com/cyanogenmod-9-cm9-for-htc-one-x-is-here/
ADB push - Refer this link(step 17)

Whoa whoa whoa!! STOP. There is a forum for the HTC One X. DO NOT FLASH A ROM FOR THE EVO 4G! The evo 4g is a CDMA phone. Doing this has the possibility of bricking your device.
HTC ONE X forum is here
HTC EVO 4G forum is here
Both easily found in the Find Your Device search engine at the top right of the page.
