Quality on the 2x? You're having a laugh mate. They're horrid, buggy and broken. Just look in the stickies on its gd forum. I've had 3 and given up. Gone back to HTC.
Op. I'd go s2 if I were you. Atrix is good if you don't mind the locked bootloader.

Go for the Samsung Galaxy SL which is essentially a Samsung Galaxy S sans the Super AMOLED screen. It has a SLCD screen which is vibrant enough and has a 4 inch screen. Should cost you around 18.5 K from local shops with bill and warranty.

Go for the Nexus! You can't go wrong with it, it was blessed by Google itself.

looks and software is really derivative, but hardware wise new nokia lumia camera will blow everything else out of the water camera wise. The S3 for everything else

Apart from being off topic your wrong about lumia as best camera in the world on a smartphone is the 41 mp pureview 808 lumia doesn't even come close to it.

Apple hardware is great, even though it's not even made by them, but won't rival anything that Android has to offer. The 4S has a 1GHz dual core processor. So what? Say hello to the HTC Rezound, HTC One X, Sony Xperia S, LG Nitro, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Samsung Galaxy Note, Samsung Galaxy S2 HD LTE etc.
I don't think I need to say much more.
Apple software is ****. iOS can GTFO IMO. Sure, it's clean, simple, fast, reliable and freakin' boring!
It's an app drawer...big deal.
Basically:
Android > iPhone

I concur. The Xperia skin actually makes me want to stick with the stock rom. Much better than many others I've used, which usually have me running to cyanogen

S3 is better but Samsung note is also pretty good.
Like among others get a Galaxy Nexus preferably 2nd hand and cheap, then save the rest of your money because 2013 is the era of the Tegra 4 and Exynos 5250 phones another performance leap from this year's phones but remarkably more expensive as well but it's upto you in the end.
of course....samsung galaxy nexus....
I have the Galaxy S3 and am happy with it but The Galaxy note 2 should be out in about a month and is gonna be a BEAST. I'm thinkung about getting that and handibg the s3 off to my wife.
YouTube has plenty of video reviews on the Galaxy s2 and s3, both great devices, the note 2 specs are unconfirmed rumors at this point but will be impressive.

A thing I'll consider on my next phone is a fully functional notification led like on blackberry. I only have 2 colors on my HTC.

Well if you need calling stick with a phone. If you have another phone for that get a tqvlet. The nexus 7 is a nice portable one. If you want larger screen is go for nexus 10 but the nexus 10 goes over your budget limit

I think the s4 will be a great phone except for the fact that Samsung usually used cheap materials. But an otter box can easily fix that
