I've been using my SR for a week now and initially I had QuickWiz ROM installed but after getting some SOD, I switched to TPC ROM which worked great for few days as well but lately I have started getting random reboots that I have not been able to pinpoint the cause for.
I reinstalled TPC rom and then immediately got a reboot. After restarting the phone, it worked for few mins and then rebooted again. At this point, I reinstalled QuickWiz and just within an hour, I have already gotten two reboots.
Any suggestion what might be causing it? Could it be hardware related?
You might try flashing the stock 2.3.5 or 2.3.6 ROM and KERNEL and see if random reboot problem goes away... then you'll know it's not a hardware issue. Check the Development section and read carefully... probably need to clear cache/data multiple times.

I ODIN back to stock yesterday and everything worked for until today when I got the reboot when opening email which leads me to believe that there is a hardware problem somewhere. I have already gone through three different ROMS (including stock) and I always get random reboots sooner or later.
So do you now have 3e recovery... or is CWM Recovery still your recovery partition? From what I've read, you need to clear data and clear cache up to 3 times each from 3e recovery.

I had the same problem and was really confused and then I think I figured the problem out. Do you have one of those thin leather mobile phone cases that attach to your belt? I notice when I put my brand new SR in my case that I purchase that when it moves even just a little bit it will push down on my power button and shut it off and back on. Is there any chance that is happening. I know it sounds stupid but I does happen to me.

Nope, that was not the case because my phone was rebooting either when I was on call or even when it was just sitting on the table.
I had two reboots last night. Both times, I was On the phone using headphones and phone was plugged into a charger.
It seems to reboot if It's plugged in and am on the phone at the same time. It does get pretty warm.
WTF.
I have been having the same issue with my Skyrocket. I am also using TPC v3 ROM, haven't tried to put the stock rom yet, but one thing for sure that this problem is not persistent.
When this problem start, my phone keep restarting for at least 5-10 times and it doesn't allow you to do anything in between. Once it starts working you won't see the booting issue again.

background info:
I am (or was) running MHX superlite 3.0 rom with romracers stockish 0.3 kernel.
UCLA3 modem and radio.
So today my phone decides to restart itself and never will load past the "first two"
samsung screens.
Once these "two" samsung logos pass by, the screen turns blank (not on)
and starts to vibrate with 1 second intervals.
The only way for it to stop is if I pull the battery.
Heres the weird part.
I tried to ODIN back to stock...once I put my phone into DOWNLOAD MODE.
The little android guy that says DOWNLOADING "dont turn off" will show for a millisecond and then the screen will shut off and start the vibrations. ODIN will not recognize the device either
So what I have is a phone that wont load past the samsung logos if the power button is pressed
AND
Download mode works, but the screen will turn blank and vibrations start buzzing.
My phone is having seizures. The only way to stop the vibrations is by pulling the battery.
I have accepted the fact that the phone may be done for.
It was a great 4 months together. tear*
Well, if you can't get it sorted out there's always this! Unless the hardware is busted, but maybe he can fix that too??

Did you try booting into recovery mode instead of odin?
Is that an overclock kernel? If so sounds like may be set to high. And did u choose set on boot.

OP... what rom/kernel/modem were you running before MHX-SuperLite? and what wipe process did you use prior to MHX flash?
Can you get into recovery and restore a backup?
If you don't have a backup and can get into recovery, try wiping data/cache, then go into mounts/storage and format system, data, and cache, then go to advanced and wipe Dalvic cache. Then power down and try to Odin back to stock again.
If this doesn't work, try another data cable or usb port on your machine (or another pc if this doesn't work). Maybe communication is getting lost due to bad usb connection...
EDIT: Are you saying you tried to Odin even though Odin wasn't recognizing your phone? That could be part of the problem. Try re-installing the Samsung drivers and see if Odin sees it then.
If you can get into download mode you aren't hard bricked yet...
I think he is saying that Odin recognizes his phone but his phone goes black before he can't start the reflash right?

Did we lose the OP'r? I was just getting ready to flash this ROM (MHX) but Jooosty has thrown up a curveball. Hope you get it resolved.
Okay sorry for late response.
But i was running skyice speed before hand.
Ive only used CWM to wipe data.
No OC or UV on this kernel.
Cant get into cwm or recovery. The screen turns blank before i can do anything at all.
Ive concluded its most likely a internal hardware failure maybe...
Going to try to sell for parts

I wouldn't give up just yet. I have never seen an instance of a hard brick where you could get into download mode. Try using Odin from another machine (preferably not a laptop).
If it's internal hardware failure then you have a defective product that is covered under warranty. Call support and get them to replace it (as a last resort of course--I honestly think you'll be able to get Odin to work if the drivers are properly installed and you have a solid usb connection).
EDIT: If you insist on selling it, please pm me so I can make an offer!

He already said Odin/connection isn't the problem. His phone won't stay on long enough for the communication to be made. According to what he said, it has nothing to do with machine/drivers/cable. He needs a way of keep the phone on long enough to make the connection, or somehow communicate with it another way. Unfortunately, I have no ideas. Although, I really hope someone does. That RussianBear guy seems to be onto something with communicating with the emmc without the phone being on... or something like that.

no cwm, no download, just reboots...i acn see cwm lettering for like 0.1ms then it reboots, and reboots every second...download mode, as soon as I choose continue, it goes into reboot loop.....
this is exactly what happened when it happened to my phone......
I went to hit the power button to lock the screen, was listening ot music on power amp. instead of screen locking, the power menu came up...hit back, and tried ot lock screen again? screen went black, 2 vibrates back to back....then saw sgh-i727r boot logo, then black and 1 second vibrate intervals.....
got it sitting in rice right now in case it got wet...battery litmus paper is good...only thing it may have gotten warm today, was working outside and it was 26° celcius....
I did drop it about 1.5 months ago and changed my screen about 3 weeks ago...unfortunately I broke the old lcd when removing the screen, I guess I didn't heat the glue enough...so I can't pop it back in and test to see if related...
I may take apart my phone in a bit and see if any liquid has leaked in...but I didn't get wet....
i think i'm going to order a gt-i9100 again, as I miss that phone.....

Hey guys, I was using the miui rom but after a month or so it just kept turning off repeatedly and whatever I tried didn't stop it. I tried wiping dalvik cache, wipe data/factory reset, reflashig the entire rom but it didn't work so after a while I got fed up so I switched back to cm7 but the phone keeps restarting. Are there any solutions?
try a different firmware?
I've been on the same firmware for months. I can't Change it because I am hboot 1.23
Are you also having problems with the battery level jumping around by any chance?

Well I've gone a while with arhd and it didn't happen but being sense it was laggy so I went back to miui and its rebooted 8 times in one hour.
I'm having the same problems, and while watching my battery voltage graph, it spikes down a lot, which indicates a bad battery, but it might be kernel. I'm downloading the update for virtuous now and seeing if its fixed. You should flash the update as well. In any case, it'll stop those web browser lockups. Looks like a lot of people are in the same boat here, which is why I'm hesitant to instantly assume its our batteries frying themselves.
I'm not sure about this but I just switched back to my stock battery and it stopped randomly turning off. I went about 3 hours use with no turn offs but I switched back to the banker battery and so far no restarts but I will need to see fully tomorrow. I don't think that it is due to overheating,I was in my garage and its ****ing freezing in there. I went to check the time on my phone and it was off but cold and hadn't been used.
Will just have to see what tomorrow brings.
I've been having this problem starting the last couple of days. I'll be using my phone, and all of a sudden the screen turns off and nothing short of a battery pull will turn it back on again. Sometimes it happens when I'm not using it at all too. I'll pull it out of my pocket and get nothing. Do a battery pull, and everything's fine again until the next time it happens. Never had this problem before, but in the last two days it has happened 7 times. It even happens when it's plugged in. The LED indicator that is normally lit up when it's charging will go out. Unplugging it and plugging it in seem to have no effect. No sounds, nothing.
I'm running Jellybeans 4.1.2 Rom, with TWRP. Today I ran a backup, cleared and wiped data, fresh install, recovered backup and still having the problem. Should I try a clean install without recovering the backup? Could that have anything to do with it? Any other ideas on what to try or what the problem could be?
If you've been running the same ROM this whole time and it just started out of the blue, I don't really think it would be ROM related. It might be hardware related.
I suppose the only real way to test if it is ROM related is to ODIN back to stock and see if it still happens. If it does keep happening once returning to stock you could probably get it swapped out by Verizon.

I've been running the ROM a lot longer than I've been having the problems, so I suspect you're right. I've had the phone for over 2 years now, so there's no warranties anymore. If it really is a hardware problem I'm probably looking at a new phone.
I'll try going back to stock though and seeing if it changes. Thanks!
Update: I just flashed did factory reset and flashed back to stock, but can't even get through initial setup before it goes black...guess it is hardware.
I have been using Cyanogen for at least the past year. In the past I have had trouble with things like random reboots, maps crashing during navigation, etc. Because of this I switched to just running the milestone releases for the past six months or so, and that has worked reasonably well. Its still way buggier than stock, but I put up with it for all of the nice features and what not.
Lately though reboots have become more and more frequent even though I hadn't changed anything. I had been running M9 for the past month with no real problems and then last night it decided to just go into a boot loop. I tried pulling the battery, clearing the cache, clearing dalvik, nothing worked. Eventually I just let the thing boot loop all night long and when I woke up it was finally booted.
Then this afternoon it did it again for a short period of time (3 or 4 minutes). When it came out I decided to download the newest, M10. It took several tries to actually flash it because the phone would reboot iself while in the middle of the wipe, or the flash, etc. But I started the wipe/flash process from the beginning every time to make sure I had a clean flash and eventually I got all the way through. But now it is at a point where it will boot, sit there for 2 or 3 minutes (I don't even touch it), and then reboot.
I'm hoping someone can help. I'm holding onto my unlimited data for dear life... I don't want to have to get a new phone. But re-flashing doesn't fix the problem so I really don't know what to do.

I don't know why your having such an issue with cm. Which is odd because I'm running a rom that's CM based and works fine. I'd say maybe try another rom if for nothing other than to see if CM is truly the issue.

Pull a logcat or use a tool like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tortel.syslog to do this for you. then after the phone reboots itself, run syslog and examine the last_kmsg and logcat to see what the obvious errors/issues are.
I too have noticed google maps crashing, camera unable to connect, random reboots, file system errors, sluggishness, etc more lately with my G3 too. Wonder if some aspects of the hardware are failing...

Yea, when the camera is broken, neither app can connect until phone rebooted. Already tried many a time.

These symptoms could indicate a sticky power button. Try knocking it lightly against the corner of a table to jar whatever is making it stick loose.
It doesn't sound software related, especially since it rebooted while in recovery. If you hold the power button down long enough in recovery it will reboot, which makes me think you just have a sticky power button. It's happened to me before.

I think you might be right. Even when it is up and running, I have been noticing lately that I get the power menu popping up sometimes when I wasn't even touching the power button. So last night when it was in one of its constant boot loop fits I took it apart a bit (took the back off, took out the battery sim and sd, and unscrewed the shell) and blew some compressed air all around the power button. It had been rebooting for about an hour at that point and then as soon as I put it back together it came up on the first try. So far so good.
I'm having a weird issue that literally just started yesterday. First of all, I didn't do any changes yesterday before this occurred. Anyway, my G3 just started freezing, then rebooting randomly, BUT that's not all! When it tries to reboot, it flashes the LG screen, and SOMETIMES makes it to the AT&T screen....and even, sometimes makes it all the way booted up. But, at any point, it can/will reboot and start the process all over. I read on another site that it could be a battery going bad, but I only trust XDA. So, could someone chime in with some help or info pointing me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance,

How can I figure out what part of the hardware could be causing this? Is there a diagnostics or something I can use? I've tried factory reset (multiple times), LG Flash Tools to flash previous version, and the strange thing is it may not even make it through the process without restarting again. It's been rooted, but I've never had a problem until this. I never deleted anything.

Not really other than swapping out parts. If using flash tool won't work and it won't go back to stock then it's definitely a hardware issue.
What percent does it get too before rebooting? If 80% that's normal. If before it's definitely a hardware problem.

I can try Flash Tools again. Maybe it just didn't take. I just noticed another thing. When it's trying to boot, if the notification light flash when the LG screen is on, it will load. But, if it doesn't flash, then it will just go black, then flash the LG screen again.

Yeah. It's really weird. It seems to do it less when the battery is charged, but if I get down to 40-50%, it could go into a loop that runs the battery into the red. Also, it seems to heat up around the power button when it's stuck in the loop. And, to top it off, my software update popped up yesterday. I've been anxiously awaiting Marshmallow for a while, but I'm afraid to update because of boot-looping right in the middle and bricking the whole thing. I already have a bricked G2 due to something weird that happened while trying to update to Lollipop. I'm going to the AT&T store today, I think. I'll let you know what I find out. Maybe, it can help you.
Thanks,

Ok. So, first of all, sorry for the long wait on a reply.
I did manage to get through a factory reset, but it still is doing the boot loop. I'm going to take it in to AT&T today. You can see my reply above to see more info. I unrooted everything and factory reset, but it still loops. I think it's a problem with the phone. I may have to go to LG, depending on what AT&T says.
Thanks for the help!

So, final update. I had to go into the AT&T tech store. I was having the random boot loop for about a week, then, on Saturday, I got the Demigod green screen. I had went in the day before and ordered a new battery, but I couldn't find any information on the green screen error. I took it in and they immediately (after checking for rooting) replaced it (warranty). They said they had never seen/heard of this screen. They had to actually Google it to see if it's attached to rooting. (It's not) Anyway, so I'm back in the saddle with a brand new phone. ?

what is really odd is that it doesn't loop when plugged into a power source. take it off the charger= insta loop ...
hoping a rom might solve the issue but from the sounds of the replies maybe that isn't the case.
any help greatly appreciated. i've not owned this phone myself or i would already have it rooted and custom recovery..
is there even a root method for MM? recovery?
i'd love to see if its a software issue. the phone worked swell before the update...
im trying to get to the bottom of this tonight if i can my g/f has a final tmr early in the morning and i'd like to make sure she has a phone to go with her. prob send her with mine if i can't get this working. but thats less than ideal PM if you've got anything i can try or links to get me started... i'll be reading in the mean time...
