Have you tried Tasker?
https://market.android.com/details?...EsIm5ldC5kaW5nbGlzY2guYW5kcm9pZC50YXNrZXJtIl0.
I'm not 100% sure it does what you want, but if any app is gonna do it, Tasker will.

yes but I have a lot of battery drain with tasker...

Well there has to be a program running to check if the screen goes off and launch a different app so you're not getting anything better than that.

I Think I *May* Have Discovered Something

I was poking around the phone today and I think I found an app' that really doesn't need to run at all times and probably doesn't need to be installed on the phone.
I noticed Adobe, which in the PC world has it's own "auto updater" ["AIR", IIRC] and I noticed HTC has their own little "widget" installed - Tell HTC.
Has anyone else notice this before?
For the guys who haven't seen it,it's in Settings/About Phone/Tell HTC.
Try turning that widget off and let me know if you see a difference.
I sure did.
My apologies if this was covered before....I'm new here and it's late.
what type of difference? i don't see this app/program running in my task manager. the only time i have seen it come up was when the phone crashed and i got a screen prompt that said "notify htc about unexpected shutdown with Tell HTC".

The Adobe reader app updates through the market so it is the market that checks every so often or when you go to it not like on a pc where it is the program that checks.
The Tell Htc widget/app is to report system errors to Htc, so it wont really make any difference. The only difference you will see if it is turned off is that when you have a system crash the pop-up asking if can send the crash info to Htc wont happen any more and no info will be sent.

I noticed the screen was much more responsive to touch gestures.
I didn't take notice of any change in memory usage.
I guess I'll have to look at a few more things.

Thanks for clarifying that so I don't need to hunt through menus and menus looking for it.
Probably a total placebo effect, but I feel like things are a little snappier? I'll keep an eye on the screen responsiveness as I go through this power cycle and will report back with some thoroughly unscientific results.
that is good trick. I also don't like the "show me" which is part of sync.
Don't know how to uncheck it.
this makes my phone no faster or snapier than what it is

I just looked at that one.
Settings/Accounts and Sync - uncheck Background data.

You need to keep that enabled to use the Market, unless you want to enable it every time you do.

Good to know, but I put that one up there with spyware.
I'll turn it on if I ever need it.
Yup, this definitely speeds your phone up. It worked for me by making everything more responsive. I thought everyone already knew about this. Its not placebo. Its legit.

Thanks my screen is wicked fast.
Just to follow up from my post earlier today with a quick, anecdotal report:
I disabled the HTC reporting as suggested by the OP around noon today, while I was at ~80% charge. It's about 9 hours later after moderate to heavy use today, and at ~15% charge my screen still has yet to lag out on me during unlocking or swiping between screens.
For reference, I would usually notice little stutters throughout the day, and especially more so once my battery dropped below the 25% threshold.
No idea why something as seemingly innocuous as error reporting would have such a marked effect, but that is honestly the only variable that I can recall changing all day today.
The responses in this thread seem like a mixed bag of results, but hopefully these good results continue for me and some lucky others!
just disable "show me" with fre3vo way better than to turn off background data..
Glad it helped some people.

I use the paid version that enables the experimental features and it seems to work good.

My battery life sucks with it and without it so I don't think it helps at all. I think the only way battery life is going to get better is if we get this thing rooted.
Does greenify turn your screen on while it's in your pocket? It kept doing that on my droid turbo

Not that I'm aware of. That might have been something to do with the active display on the Turbo.
Ok in going to try greenify. I think my battery drain is coming from using my moto 360
I used it for a week while I had my S6, and I didn't notice any difference in battery life, although it did hibernate apps. Without root or xposed it's uses are much more limited, but I had it setup with Nova Launcher so when I double tapped on the home screen it ran the "hibernate and lock screen" action. Otherwise, you have to manually press hibernate since it can't do it automatically without root.

exact same setup here. seems to have helped reduce the amount of background apps. it will be nice when we get root and it is all automated. I may actually keep the double tap to turn off the screen though...i have kind of gotten used to it!!

Screen timeout not working

I've noticed over the last few weeks that even when I change my screen timeout to 5 or 10 minutes, it reverts back to 1 minute. Has anybody experienced this? I'm not rooted a d was wondering if it was a theme causing this, but don't am not too sure About that neither.
I'd greatly appreciate any help or feedback.
Bump

I'm running themes and don't have an issue. Did you disable any packages with Package Disabler Pro? If so, that might be the issue.

Another option would be to leave it at 1 minute and use smart stay to keep the screen on when you're looking at it. I know that's not the solution you're looking for but it might be an option.

Anyone still use EasyEyes or other brightness control apps?

New OP7, read about the "adaptive brightness" setting, but so far I find the phone way too bright compared with my previous one.
On the old phone I used to have "EasyEyes" installed to add that red filter, wondering if that's something that is no longer useful now (has that been incorporated in Android Pie?), or are you guys still using these types of programs?
Hoping to find the most restful setup for the eyes!

Night mode (red filter) is built into OOS under Display Settings.
Thanks for that — that's news to me.
In your opinion, does that work well? (Well enough to stop using something like EasyEyes?)

Thanks for replying, sorry but I didn't understand what you meant. Do you mean that everynight EasyEyes kicks off, or Night mode from OOS under Display Settings?

Question Split Screen not working

If I try to put an app (from recent apps screen) in split window, nothing happens: the option is there, but clicking on it does nothing.
Popup mode works fine.
Any options I have to enable?
It seems is an apk I have disabled, but not sure which one: if I re-enable all it works...
Gotta try one by one out of 95 disabled APKs :-(
Found it: it was appsedge
