How can i watch mkv file in 1080p?
***The last time they asked was in may sooo....***
1. play the file on a recent computer.
2. buy the transformer prime when it comes out
tf101 can't handle 1080p as far as i understand.
Or convert the video to a 1080p lower profile - then it can handle it.

The display is 1280*800 so 1080p is pointless, however ... give BSPlayer a try as it handles 720p fine for me.

How come I did not find this player earlier? I tried several other media players that claimed to use hardware acceleration, but neither of them played even 480p mkvs smoothly. Thanks a lot, now I can finally watch my favorite anime shows without the need to reencode them.

It just means that the display hasnt got the 1080pixels the video is offering, if its playing a 1080p movie it downscales it to 720 then pumps out an upscale to 1080 ... kinda pointless

Seems it's a device by device issue. I have MKV HD videos I had to convert to play on iPhone, but I see some people have had success getting them to play on various android devices, but I can't find any video app that'll play them without being jerky or not having audio.
Thanks

the stock player can play the .mkv wrapper. but not all .mkv's will be compatable there isnt just one .mkv codec. i plan to mess with transcoding some movies and report what works for me. the infuse has similar (better) hardware to the iphone so playback of similar files should be posible, that's not to say there isnt a difference in the os or player that gives the iphone an advantage.
.mkv files work and the built-in video player has full support for even L5.1 High profile 720p h.264 video (5.5Mbps, CABAC). Weirdly enough, I can't get FLAC contained in mkv to play and AAC-LC is a mixed bag (some play, others don't). AC3 works great though; I haven't run into a single failure.
Boo it won't work for me :-(

I downloaded "Lite" and it works fabulous. Only issue is now I can't find the "full" version to buy\download so I don't have the rock app logo on the screen 24\7
I also use rock player, when is vlc releasing their android app? Also I know the infuse screen is big and all, but do you really need an .mkv and HD on such a small screen? I'm sure an xvid encoded movie would look just as good a screen this size and the distance at which you watch it.

No, don't need the HD-ness, it's more of the fact that I download them for my WDTV live HD as MKV and it'd be nice to have a player that I can play them without having to mess with converting them.

No problems for me so far... plays everything I throw at it without issues so far.. including mkv files.
Moboplayer (ARMv7-Neon optimizations) is quite good, even in software decoding mode. Seeking can get noticeably laggy but overall it's a good experience, at least coming from Rockplayer and mVideoPlayer. Subtitles and audio (including FLAC) work well most of the time in hardware accelerated mode and software decoding is not bad for a single core 1.2GHz phone.

Yes, it is obvious. I'm just extremely disappointed that the stock video player is so bad, it can't even play some of the files that HTC states it should. I also don't feel the need to pay for an app in order to play video files, that's just ridiculous on a high-end phone like this. And let's be honest here, the video players on the market are rubbish.

I purchased the Atrix 2, and tested out playing tv shows using various video players through HDMI mirroring and each video file on every video player resulted in jerky video playback. Plays fine on phone, even plays fine on original atrix using hdmi and video playback mode.

Guess the Atrix 2 just isnt as good as the first one. Unless your tv just cant handle that substantial upgrade you made, and now you are forced to upgrade your TV.
On a serious note now, try restarting your phone.. Install take killer and see how much ram you have to play with. Or you just might have to wait for a update from Moto. Could be some codec hardware/software issues. Good luck!

Task killer is nothing but a battery drainer, dont install it please!
I demuxed the video files and the video plays 100% smooth with NO audio. I am converting the audio to mp3 to see if the video will play fine with that codec.
File with mp3 audio didnt even play but I converted the aac audio from 48hz to 44hz and that made a difference. File with 48hz noticeably had alot of frame jumps while file with 44hz still had frame jumps but it didnt have that many. Both files look fine on phone. Problem is while mirroring.

Ok so I just tried HDMI Mirroring and it works flawlessly granted you really need to reformat the videos to an acceptable format considering I tried to watch a non formated .mkv video and because of the compression of that video type it did stutter a bit. .avi has a slight issue with Not actually playing at least the one I attempted anyway. .mp4 played perfectly with no issues at all. Will let you know if I figure out any tricks for optimizing videos.
Edit: Yea ok so after playing with Multiple Videos it seems that it depends on the compression of the video as far as I can tell, considering I just got a bunch of Other .avi's to function with no issues at all. So yea seems video related.

All the files I tested were video files I already converted to work with my Atrix, which works on my atrix perfectly fine using the Entertainment Center feature of the original Atrix. The files also work perfectly fine on the SGS 2 mirroring. The files play perfectly fine on the Atrix 2 with the exception of mirroring, the frames jerk randomly. I removed the audio from the video file and it worked perfectly. I tried playing a low res divx and it still did the frame jumps.

i know it seems like more work but for MX video. there is also an "add on" that is listed for our processors. After that, make sure hardware decoding is on(settings).

Welcome to a Tegra-zone full of disappointment.
I too thought this was something tegra2 should handle without even breaking a sweat, after all that BS-advertisment.
And then this... Yeah well. What can you do?
If you just bought it, I'd return it and get a prime. With twice the amount of cores, it should at least be able to do basic tasks such as playing videos which my 5 year old laptop could handle.
non of them
Using Android Revolution HD and MX Video Player 720p mkv plays smooth even over CIFS.All mkvs I use are P2P encodes.
Dice Player seems to handle MKV files the best for me. It is a paid app but you can download the trial for free I believe. Also, mkv files can actually be a lot of different things. The MKV file itself is just a container file, and can contain video encoded in a number of different ways. The Tegra 2 can only handle stuff that was encoded in H264/MP4 using the Basic profile I think it's called? Or baseline? Something like that.
Running prime rom
not going to change it for watching TV
ill guess il convert it to MP4
Dice Player plays my League mkv's perfectly fine. They look gorgeous.
Do a search man, this has been covered time and time again. But here is my input.
why not just convert them? I use dvd catalyst to convert all my videos to mp4. the end result is a file thats 80 percent smaller
and looks just as good as the mkv on a 10" screen. I carry 2 32 gigabyte sd cards and have close to 50 movies on them. They even look good over hdmi out on my lcd and led tvs at home.

Using dvd catalyst it takes about 15 minutes per mkv, I do large batches over night while I am sleeping, much quicker and less stressful. Plus you get a more efficient file... And you only need to do it once.
I struggled with this when I first got my tf, not all my mkvs would play, I think it had to do with the airstrip compression but I don't remember. Any way, once I figured out the converting method I use now, everything has been smooth sailing. Aside from the initial push, (converting my entire library) it odd really a hassle free option now.
Even if I could play mkvs perfectly I would still convert them, I would prefer a 1.2gb file over a 5-6gb file any day. What I carry on 2 sd cards would take 8 if they were 720p mkv files.
But to reach their own.

Hi everyone,
Do you know a Player for Windows RT that supports MKV files playback? I´ve been using VLC or even CineXPlayer for other platforms...
thanks in advance,
Carles.-
Unfortunately I think there are no MKV player available yet...
One way to do (while waiting for someone to develop/port one) would be to convert MKV to MP4 contener (ie only change the container and the convert the audio but keep the video in h264).
All my movies are in mkv I would gladly pay for an app for playback would make the surface all most complete
Use mkv2vob to make mkv video playable on the surface in a few seconds. Make sure "transcode dts" is checked in options since the surface can't decode dts audio. If space is an issue you can convert video with handbrake, the default iPad setting works well.

*sigh* almost!!! At first it didn't work at all. I had to turn hardware acceleration off. Hard coded subtitles don't work/show up at all. Most .mkv's don't play at all. The ones that do play come through okay. I did Surface chat to get a full refund. The app isn't ready yet. However, if you have english speaking mkv, you may get away fine. I watch anime, and I need the hardcoded subtitles to show up. It's a bit overpriced in my book.
I tried and it did not work for me neither.

I know of a software Power DVD Mobile for Ultra that supports MKV playback, but you need to pay a fee to buy Power DVD Mobile first and then activate it. I haven't tried this yet and don't know how good it works. Nevertheless, a lite version of Power DVD used to be bundled along with many branded desktop/notebook computers.
