GPS.conf file edit problem - myTouch 4G General

I'm having a slight issue, I could use some help troubleshooting. I'm looking to boost signal strength for the GPS. I have use a couple different methods to r/w instead of r/o none seem to work. I thought it worked and proceeded to edit the GPS.conf file as text, it always gives me a save fail and the GPS.conf file disappears. Is it just my phone or has this happened to anyone else? Or, if it hasn't happened to you and you have a solution I'd appreciate your help.

Can you please tell the path of the file you are trying to modify ?
using adb tools, you can pull a file from your phone. modify the file
and push the file.
If push fails, do "adb remount" (rooted device) and then try to push.

ADB Push. Why?

I tried searching for the answer, but I got lots of how to use ADB, What benefit is there to using the push command as opposed to using a file explorer if I'm doing something on the SD card? I get if you're dealing in system files, (AFAIK) you can't view those with a file browser on the computer, but if you are transferring an "update.zip" file, what benefits does adb push have?
Nothing wrong with just using a file explorer. However, adb push could be your only option if something screwed up and your screen stays black or something.

Froyo Rom Manger fix permissions fix?

I have spent all morning trying to get rom manager to fix permissions and have finally tracked down the culprit. the fix_permissions script is looking for /data/system/packages.xml. At least with perception 4 it is in /dbdata/system/packages.xml
I have edited the file and attached it.
First the rename and drop the .txt. the actual name of the file is fix_permissions
Copy to sdcard.
Using root explorer copy it to /data/data/com.koushikdutta.rommanager/files
(good idea to back up the other one first.)
Issue I have is after I reboot, the file resorts back to the old file.
Not sure why.
If you want to edit the file directly in root explorer, there were 4 instances of the /data/system/packages.xml
!!All credits go to the developers of rom manager and associated programs within it!!
I for the life of me cannot figure out why the file keeps changing.
So the best thing i can think of is to load it to the sdcard.
Using terminal emulator cd /mnt/sdcard and then sh the file.
Quickest diretiest way to get it to work.
I hope it helps someone out there.
Code:
su
cd /mnt/sdcard
sh fix_*
Thank you--if it helps, I simply copied the packages.xml file into /data/system/ in order to run fix_permissions, and then just deleted the .xml file.
A temporary fix, yes, but I was just trying to fix a specific problem with ending phone calls causing an FC (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9943863#post9943863).
Thanks, your fix worked for me as well...

--Much appreciate the suggested fix. Worked like a charm.
do you have to delete the packages.xml afterwards?
what will happen if I just leave it in the data/system folder instead of copy/pasting it every time?
Oh ant thanks SO much. Really needed to be able to fix permissions after Nero v5 started to act crazy yesterday.

I haven't played with this in awhile, but it seemed that it was overwritten every time Rom manager started.
I'll play around with this and see what I can come up with as a more permanent solution.

[Q] Installing System Apps

Hi! I searched the forums, but didn't see any answers regarding to this.
I'm trying to install the moded versions of SMS and Phone/Contact apps found in Cyanogenmod ROM over stock 2.3.4.
What I did was to extract Contacts.apk, Mms.apk, and Phone.apk from one of CM releases and copied the APK files to /System/Apps/ via Root Explorer (set it from R/W to R/O) and rebooted the phone, but there was no change.
I then tried to install them (from the same /System/Apps/ location) through Root Explorer, but it doesn't let.
Any help would be much appreciated.
If you are trying this you need to check/change permission on each app...the phone.apk will not work though I've tried and got force closes. The dialer and mms apks will work though. The best way to do this is to push via adb. If you don't have sdk and knowledge of the basic adb and shell commands I would highly reccomend becoming familiar with them.

I have sdk and worked with adb before to root my phone. I'll do some research on how to install apps via adb.
Thank you.

Just put the apps on your tool folder and enter the following commands....
adb push "your.apk" system/app

Thanks again. I did that and got confirmation that the files were copied, but the new Mms, for example, wasn't installed.
I tried using "install" command after, but it wouldn't let me. I got a message saying that the file already exists.
I changed the permission and everything, too.
Any ideas?

That's odd...I usually don't have to change permissions when I push an app. What version of the cm7 mms apk are you using? I used it from the stable 7

I was using Nighties, but I'll try the latest stable 7. Downloading now.
Just to clarify what I did:
First, used the "adb push" method you suggested and the apk files were copied to system/app. I rebooted, but nothing had changed. I then tried to install the copied files via Root Explorer, but it wouldn't let me. I changed R/O and then Permissions, but still couldn't install.
Then I tried "adb install", but it said file already exists. I changed R/O then Permissions, but still couldn't.
After that, I deleted Mms.apk and Contacts.apk and tried all the methods described above again, but still nothing. The apps weren't installed and I kept getting FC.
Lastly, I manually copied the files again via Root Explorer (changed R/O then changed Permission), but still no change and couldn't install.
Hopefully CM 7 packages I'm downloading would work.

[Q] Can't delete Mms.odex, "No such file or directory"

I'm trying to use my new Sensation with the SIM from my Japanese iPhone, which requires replacing the stock Mms.apk with one that works with Softbank. That much I managed to do. Now when I try to open the Messaging app it crashes immediately, which is apparently normal and means I need to delete the old Mms.odex. But when I try, the command prompt window tells me:
rm failed for /system/app/Mms.odex, No such file or directory
I've made sure the folder isn't read-only (I managed to copy the new Mms.apk to it after all). Not sure what else could be going wrong. Thanks in advance for any help.
Its not a good idea to push files into the system directory of an odexed ROM like that. You usually need to push the appropriate .odex file with the .apk file.
Also could be a permissions problem. You need to make sure the permissions for the new file the are same as what's already in the directory.

I know it's not ideal, but this method seems to work just fine; I've read a bunch of Japanese blogs that explain this is how to get MMS working with Softbank, and people on forums elsewhere say it's worked for them.

How do I do that? I'm pretty new to all this, two days ago I was Googling where to find my Sensation's settings menu
If you want to ensure the mms.apk has correct permissions you can simply run:
adb shell chmod 644 /system/app/mms.apk
This will set the correct permissions for apps in the /system/app folder, although its worth reading up on linux permissions to understand what the command is actually doing.
Permissions didn't help, but I've managed to track down another Mms.apk file that works well enough - messages don't integrate properly with HTC's Messaging app, but I can send and receive MMS. I'm going to keep looking for a better apk but at least this one functions!

Accidentally deleted bluetooth

I accidentally deleted bluetooth. I flashed(?) the stock recovery found in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/pure-xl/general/twrp-recovery-root-blu-pure-xl-allview-t3269447 and had no luck. I also tried factory resetting it. Any ideas on how to get it to work again? Whenever I try to enable bluetooth I get the "Bluetooth share has stopped working" error.

Do you mean you uninstalled one of the Bluetooth apps in System > Advanced Settings > Apps > All?
If so, please use some sort of root explorer app (you have to be rooted first) to navigate to either /system/app/Bluetooth or /system/priv-app/Amigo_Bluetooth and install whichever .apk that appears to be not installed. I believe this should fix your issue.

Alright so the .apk file is missing from system/apps/Bluetooth. The one in amigo_bluetooth is still there

Interesting.
I've uploaded my /system/app/Bluetooth folder here. Could you please download that, extract the folder inside to somewhere, and either:
Push the folder via adb using the command adb push Bluetooth /system/app/ while your command prompt/terminal is in the same directory where you extracted the "Bluetooth" folder (cd DRIVE:\your\directory\path\Bluetooth (Windows) or ~/your/directory/path/Bluetooth (Linux) ).
or
Transfer the extracted "Bluetooth" folder to either your microSD or a USB Drive, plug it into your phone and move the folder to /system/apps using your root file explorer app.
Finally, install the Bluetooth.apk inside (which I'm assuming is the one you uninstalled since it is missing).
Let me know how it goes, thanks!

Do I creat app folder?
I don't have a /system/app/ folder, just a /system folder with subfolders, none are called app.

Can you check again? Make sure you go to your system folder from your phone's root directory. It should contain almost all of the default apps installed on your phone when it came out of the box (with the rest of it being in priv-apps).
I have the exact same problem as the OP - I tried downloading the said file but my phone says the file is corrupt - can someone please send an updated version?
Same problem, file corrupt.
Bluetooth got erased because the system detected that the app was sending sms by itself (or so it said) and thus deleted it. I have the same problem as the one above, the file seems to be corrupt and can't install the .apk
Please, if there is another way to solve this say so.
Same problem...
I have the same problem as above, my phone detected the SMS permission and said it might cost you money and recommend an uninstall. I never realised I would be able to uninstall Bluetooth without being rooted but it did it anyway - maybe it's an android bug?
Anyway, I tried downloading your Bluetooth.apk and reinstalling but it said file corrupt.
Any help would be much appreciated! Sounds like this is a bug that's been going around...
Hello, I cant find the Amigo Bluetooth folder in /system/priv-app. So Can anyone please provide me the folder here
Also any other solution for re enabling the Bluetooth
Moto 4 Bluetooth gone
Same problem here
Did anyone found a solution yet?

following this thread will allow you to reload the factory rom to default settings, including all factory apps and files. this is a "OEM reset"
to the fullest, bringing phone back to factory sent condition. (be prepared to do a few ota updates when done)
pay attn and read the whole thread (Yes I know its long) especially when it talks about SP Flash tool...

Thanks for the info.
I dont know yet if a simple apk via adb could fix the problem here instead of flashing the complete device
Fixed
Hey, I had a look elsewhere and found a forum on the Lenovo website (can't post link here), hopefully this will work for you too.
Basically you want to go to Settings>Apps>Reset app settings and that'll do the trick.
Good luck!
