[Q] Thumbnails for movies? - HTC Sensation

Anyone know how to add thumbnails for movies you put in the gallery? I used DVD Catalyst to convert some movies (awesome application by the way totally worth it if youre looking for how to put movies on virtually any device). Only problem is unless I use THEIR gallery and add a picture with same name as the movie, it wont display a thumbnail - using their gallery clogs my own gallery with pictures and movies that are black, and they leave a border around the movie that isnt black - annoying. *sigh*
Anyone else have luck?

Hi Spartacus,
Thank you for using DVD Catalyst,
I created the player-app because there wasn't anything else out there that would let you use your own cover images for your video files. Before the 3.1 update on HC, you could create a folder, put a video file in it and then an image file, and it would display it in the Gallery app, but Google broke that with the 3.1 update, so I made the app. I still haven't seen anything else that works in a similar way.
I have been working on an update for it all week, and after I read your post, I did make some changes regarding the images, so the next update will have them not show up in Gallery.

Thanks, looking forward to the update. I know myself and a lot of others still want a way to add thumbnails for movies in the gallery.

Same here, but with that being a gripe since the beginning of Android, I don't think that is going to happen anytime soon. Because the idea behind it is so simple and obvious, I was expecting someone to come up with it, but since that never happened, I figured I'd give it a shot.

Video Manager

Does anyone know a way to view video file icons by their thumbnail outside of the picture/video view and not in wmv format?
I want to use something like winterface as video launcher for my movies/tv shows, and maybe music, but don't want the stupid windows-flag icon that is used for my avi files. Does anyone know of an explore plugin that would generate thumbnails for the icons?
I'm interested in any solutions, even if i have to do something on my computer before putting the videos on the sd card.
TIA
WTF? was i spam replied?
ok, in the meantime i found s-k-tools icon changer, but i'd like something a little better than just a generic icon for all my AVIs. Maybe there is no way to do this because winmo just don't quite got what it takes?
hopefully i can find a way to do this soon enough. I'd eventually like to get something like boxee running on a winmo phone, with plugins for wikilyrics and everything. I'll probably have to wait for fennec to come out (and buy a better phone than a herald) but that's the dream anyways.
i'd like to hear any advice or comments if you've got any.

mediascanner issue? my music is invisible

So I installed jelly bean when it came out. (Codename Android 3.6.0 at the time of writing, but the problem persists regardless of the specific rom I'm using). I noticed that none of the music players available in the play store can find my music on my sd card. They are all in a folder named mp3, but I even tried renaming it to music - no luck. Also, the only pictures I can see in my gallery are the ones that have been made since the installation of the current rom. Does anyone have an idea how to force the mediascanner to actually scan my media? Damn, I want my media so bad

I have no idea why your music isn't being picked up. That's usually never an issue. Maybe someone else can chime in.
As for the gallery pictures not showing up. Just download Quick Pic from the Play Store. The default Android Gallery has been crying to be put of out of its misery for awhile now. It's terrible and slow. Yes, you can transfer pictures to your device and the gallery will take 5 minutes to eventually display them. Quick Pic is superior and will instantly pick up any pictures you add. No waiting involved.

Thank you for the tip, QuickPic actually solved my gallery issue, what still remains is the music list not showing up in any of the players I have tried... (Winamp, Google Play Music, Apollo, just to name a few)
check if one of the apps in use is the media scanner in a constant state of reboot.
media scanner problems often are caused by malformed jpeg file, the bug usually lies in the Exif information, you can use this tool (http://www.digitalconfidence.com/BatchPurifier.html) to remove Exif information from the file, 95% chance that everything returns to work including music and video because the media scanner is shared and if it hangs on jpeg images then can not catalog other multimedia files.
you will lose data such GPS position but the photo itself will remain intact, many have pointed at Camera360 as one of the sources of these corrupted files and I can confirm that.
I got a similar issue before and is solved by copy all media to a pc, delete the files in the phone, then move them back, see if it can help you

That's an old issue that happened to some when they updated to JB back in July. So, welcome to July.

@madd0g you had better stay off the forums, you are completely useless...
If it's not fixed completely, run a search on your sdcard for files named ".nomedia" and delete them.

Alrighty. Just make sure there are none at the root of the SDcard or in folders where you want pictures to appear. Clockworkmod ROM Manager had a bug back a lil while ago where it put some .nomedia files in wrong folders, making people unable to find their music/picture.

I already had similar question posted. Got no resolution....

Anybody have the solution? I am able to see pictures in gallery and videos on my MX player but no music?
I deleted nomedia (found one) and got rid of rom manager but still my music files don't show up with all the players. I can go directly to media/music via root explorer and play it though.
Go to your apps, find Media Storage, and then clear data & cache.
Download Rescan Media from the play store and run it. Wait for a bit (5 minutes should be good) and if you check in your music player(s) you should be able to see your music.
database or cache that the media scan builds is gone

I have done that and everything works fine. BUT! after a battery change or charge (plug in USB cable) the database or cache that the media scan builds is gone. Deleted or corrupted by something. Its back to the same state, no music, video, added ringtones or pics show until a rescan. What could be deleting it?

[Q]4.4.2 playing video from restricted profile

Just done a factory reset to clear the bugs but I have found a small problem with video playback using the stock player & a restricted profile.
My daughters video collections on the sd card, I can view and hover with playback but it will not let me click on the file unless I am in a full account. As soon as I create a restricted account it refuses to allow me to playback video. It works fine in MX player but try telling a 4 year old to use something new..
Is there anything I can do to get this working ?
Thanks.
Here's an idea

I'm sorry but I have no idea how to solve this, since I have no experience with restricted profiles. However, I have a solution if you are looking for a kids mode, which may or may not solve your issues.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kiddoware.kidsplace&hl=en
That's a kid mode app that you can be password protected, you can either run it on your own account or perhaps integrate it as the launcher for your daughter's profile, I don't know if it will work that way but it is worth a try.
The reason I think this may work is because the developer also makes a video player that integrates with the app, and the description mentions it reads external storage. Due to the changes with Kitkat, I don't know if it still works perfectly (although from what I understand the changes with Kitkat were regarding write, so maybe reading the video files might still work), but it's worth a shot.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kiddoware.kidsvideoplayer&hl=en
Hope it works!
Thanks, I already have MX player but she loves the preview the stock player has. I am backing up 60gb of vids to format the card as it has a wobbly even renaming folders while in her profile, I think that may be part of the issue so I will try the obvious 1st
oh well, this is a confirmed bug. formatted the sd card, stuck 1 video back on and still can't play it.

How to edit 360 video

Is there a program that I can use that's easy to cut up the 360 video and delete bits I don't want?
m in need of such a program myself. Everything I use messes up the video when I upload to youtube.
Hi, you need to use a tool that maintains all the backend stuff that lets YouTube know it's 360 video. This basically means you need to spend *some* money on a decent video editing package. Freeware type stuff is likely not to work (as well as open up your editing computer to malware). Lots of people use Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro (essentially industry standard software for video editing) which are expensive to buy - but there are trials you can use to check 'em out. Cheaper options from companies like Magix are available - their MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 2016 Plus product allows for 360 editing and costs £70 (again there is a trial you can use).
Probably be helpful to hear what camera you're using, what you've used to edit and how it didn't work?
If it's any help, I'm just about to dip my toes into 360 video editing at work and I'm planning on using Adobe Premiere Pro for the main editing.
I don't have my cam yet but watched this video explaining how to do it. Installed one of the apps and seems simple enough to use going by what the video says.

Welp finally got my cam and done some playing. I need to figure out how to pull clips from videos. I tried putting videos on keyboard and it messes them up.
You can post videos to YouTube directly from phone.
What's really dum is toy have to keep the phone screen on when transferring from cam to phone.... complete fail

I have to mute an audio portion of my video due to an copyrighted song. I have have yet to find a program that will let me edit the video without the uploaded video being no-360 and distorted.

Probably be helpful to list the software that hasn't worked...
As I said above, to edit 360 video you need to use a package that keeps all the additional data (that flags it as 360 content) intact. Most freeware software will not do it properly (or at all) which is why it's distorted or not rendering as 360 video when you upload it. This means spending some cash, or using trial software or *cough* your preferred method of circumnavigating such restrictions.
Hey guys, I've been using Premiere to edit my 360 videos so I dont know about any free software that would allow you to edit your videos. What I do know is that any other program you use to edit will remove the metadata needed for Youtube or Facebook to know its a 360 video. There is a small piece of software, which is free, that you'll have to use to "inject" the metadata necessary to make it a 360 video again. Its super fast and easy to use. If you do a quick search in google for "360 metadata injector" you should be able to find a ton of results on where to download it and how to use it. Hope this helps.

Yes of course! Since this is an LG thread I assume we're talking about the LG 360 Cam and not the Ricoh Theta. The Ricoh Theta has PC software which the LG Cam doesn't. The LG 360 Cam is designed to work with a phone, this means that to get videos that you can later edit you'll need to download them through the phone app and then move them to your computer. In the process of downloading to the device, the app will also stitch your 360 video, this might be the reason why it takes so long for the video to download.
Once you have downloaded all the videos you want, move them to your computer. Use your favorite video editing software. Make sure that the aspect ratio does not change or gets cropped. The video resolution size should be 2560x1280. When you're happy with your editing, export/render your video. Now look for and download the software called "Spatial Media Metadata Injector" its free. This will allow you to re-add the metadata info that lets YouTube, Facebook or any other site that this is a 360 video. This info is lost when the video was edited. Open the program and choose the video you edited and select the "Spherical" check box. Now use the "Save As" and save the new "injected" video. That will be the video you'll want to post anywhere and it will be recognized as a 360 video.
Let me know if you have any questions!
Happy 360 shooting!

I have used Power Director 12 and Nero to attempt to edit them. I "inject" the metadata after editing them and it seems to be a normal 360 video prior to uploading them. Once uploaded they become distorted.

So, they're obviously mangling it in some other way (welcome to the world of video editing - the amount of times a codec behaving badly has made me want to cry...).
What format is the unedited footage saved as and what format have you outputted edited footage as prior to injecting the metadata?
---------- Post added at 10:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:02 PM ----------
Give Adobe Premiere a go editing to see if it maintains the 360 gubbins when you upload the edited footage, follow what @asainz320 said on the previous page for exporting.
That way you'll know it *will* work. Then it's a case of finding software that will edit within your price bracket.
Premiere Trial - https://creative.adobe.com/products/download/premiere
Adobe ain't gonna maintain it since it's already not there. When you copy a video over to a computer its already 2 fish eyes.
I found some app for the computer from another 360 cams website that you can watch them on computer but the stitching isnt great.

Yeah - you're right with the LG Cam. I've been messing around with a Theta S at work which produces similar duel fish eye footage. Can confirm that when you stitch that together and edit in Adobe Premiere, then inject the metadata the footage uploads perfectly to YouTube. So you need to find something to stitch the footage.
http://chrissniderdesign.com/blog/2015/11/23/how-to-edit-360-video-in-premiere/ is the workflow I'm using, doubt the free tool would work with LG Cam footage but it's free so worth a crack - if you want to pm me a short bit of footage from the LG Cam I'd be happy to run it through to confirm one way or the other.
I'm also going to try above workflow using the more modestly priced Sony Movie Studio so will confirm whether that works.
Once again. The LG 360 CAM was not meant to be used stand alone. You will need to download the videos to your phone before you can get something you can work with. There is no software yet to convert the raw videos from your LG camera.

So the LG Software on the LG Support Site doesn't allow you to convert footage externally to a camera? Cos this video seems to beg to differ.
well I'm using Ricoh Theta + video editor on iPhone for on the go video editing

Why do photos and videos......

....open in editor mode? The wife’s is the same and the only way open videos so that you have the usual controls is to click the three dots on the bottom right and chose open in video player.
I’m sure it only happened since the last update. If i need to use the editor I will switch to it but that is rear. Can it be forced to open in player at the start?
Best regards,
Considering there are no replies at all, I may not have explained the problem properly.
When I click to open a video, it opens as the first picture. I then have to click the 3 dots on the bottom right to open it in video player (picture 2), that takes me to picture 3. I never before had to go through these steps before, it always used to open in the video player first. Am I the only one with this problem?
Hope someone can help.

I'm trying to understand, why you opening videos via Gallery app.
(i presume it's via Gallery app)
Have you got the Samsung Video Library app also installed.
You have to, to view videos directly.!
Link...
Samsung Video Library - Apps on Google Play
You can browse and play video content.
play.google.com
All you do is, open video directly from this app. Even hover S pen over video to get preview video.
See screenshots
Good luck.

The reason for that is because I always opened it from galley and it had, till recently, opened in video player, which is Samsung Video Library. Also, if you have any videos in the secure folder, you have no choice of opening it in video player unless you go through the extra clicks. That is the reason for looking somehow to force videos to open in Samsung Video Library from gallery as it used to do. Hope that makes sense.
Thank you to taking time to answer.

Thanks for explaining. I understand.
For me the Samsung Gallery app (video)
is now intended (actually been, quite some time now) if you either want to edit a video or set a video as Lockscreen wall.
Bottom line,
as i see it Samsung does not actually see Gallery app, as video player, as such....anymore.!
Only linking it (hiding) access in Gallery app settings.
So your choice is,
either use the Samsung Video library or bear the extra taps.!
Good luck.
