[Q] Acer Iconia A500 - no English (UK) locale - General Questions and Answers

Recently bought an Acer Iconia A500 tab in the UK. Upgraded to Android Honeycomb 3.2. The only English locale is English (United States), so the device defaults to the US mm/dd/yyyy date format and UK keyboard. It is possible to change to a UK keyboard and set the calendar to Monday for the first day of the week. But changing the date from default mm/dd/yyyy to dd/mm/yyyy appears to have no effect, so date widgets and the system date still appear in mm/dd/yyyy format. Acer tech say this will be addressed in a future firmware update. Is there any way to 'really' add the English (UK) locale? I tried a few apps from Android market and these do not appear to work. Maybe they're for phones with Android 2.x?

German Sense UI for Eastern Europe Htc Legend?

Hi,
I just got my HTC Legend in Hungary. This means that although android netively "speaks" german, the Sense UI overlaid in this regional version only knows English, Polish, Czech and Russian. Is there any way to replace this version of the Sense UI with a german one, as this is my native language? I reinstalled the official ROM (RUU_Legend_HTC_WWE_1.23.405.1_Radio_47.26.35.04_7.05.35.26L_release_120393), but Sense UI still stayed in the above languages.
Any ideas, anyone?
Hi
got the solution, works flawlessly on my legend: search "morelocale 2" in the market, install, there you go. Adds the natively included languages to Sense UI, so no patch. Seems great... here the article to it, from blog.clove.co.uk:

With the upcoming release of the HTC Desire and the HTC Legend, we’ve had a lot of questions about language and keyboard settings for Android, particularly Chinese. With the ever expanding Android marketplace, there’s always an App available for to suit any needs you may have.
For a Chinese users, there is an application called Pinyin (Google Pinyin IME) released by Google. Pinyin supports stroke input, updates the soft keyboard layout and improves suggestions. Its free to downloaded and rated 4.5/5 stars on the Marketplace.
Although there are no Google releases, there are also some good Arabic keyboards available, such as Arabic Keyboard.
Android has several built-in language options. To change the locale (language) that your Android device works in:
On your Android device, under Settings>Locale & Text>Select Locale, you can choose the Language setting you would like your device to use. On some devices (such as the HTC Hero), the only setting available is English. This can be changed very easily using an App called MoreLocale 2, which can be downloaded completely free of charge from the Android Marketplace. Simply download the App and install, launch it, and select the language you would like your device to use. (Note: to change back to English, you will need to navigate through Settings>Locale & Text>Select Locale and select English).
Currently, the locales available on Android 1.5, 1.6 and 2.1 are:
Chinese, PRC , Chinese, Taiwan
Czech
Dutch, Netherlands & Belgium
English, Britain, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore,
French, France, Belgium, Canada, Switzerland
German, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein
Italian, Italy, Switzerland
Japanese
Korean
Polish
Russian
Spanish

[Q] About support chinese interface and IM

Hi,
I just bought one Xoom from BestBuy in USA on the end of Feb. when it on stock, and I am using it in Taiwan, as you know that it is English interface, but as you know that Android 3.0 supports chinese language, also I could access chinese web site thru my Xoom, so my question is, could I add chinese input method to my Xoom? Is there any files that can enable my Xoom to chinese interface?
Thanks,
Jacky

[Q] Possible Language change?

Hello guys, I bought a brand new Asus Pc eee Transformer from a friend, but the OS only supports Deutsch/German language. Is there any possibilty to add a language or hack it somehow to english? I searched the net, but cannot find it, so a friend reffered me to here. Thank you
Rok
There should be like 20 languages to choose from in the settings. You could always install other ROM (or try update for UK/USA version of Transformer) which will have all languages for sure. But I'm sure they are already there in the settings.

[Q] Teclast P76 Ti

Heya,
My kid just got a Teclast P76 Ti in x-mas present. Can I do anything to it without ruin the whole tablet setup?
I've been searching and did not see anything about updating or rooting these devices.
One thing I've seen in the tablet is in the language settings.. the last 3 options are in chinese, how do I change that?
And is t possible to alter the OS in any way?
If so... To what?
Language selection options are usually in the language the person wants. The Chinese options will be for Chinese languages and anyone wanting these can read them. For example, if I wanted to set the language to Thai, the entry would say Thai in Thai script not in English.

[Q] V1277 Language english US and not UK help

Hi all,
This is my first post here so please be kind and help a complete nube.
I recently purchased a V1277 android dual sim phone from China via Amazon UK. Superb phone and very pleased. However, in setting up the phone I noticed that the language option only has English US available. Not too much of a problem you might think but it means many apps set themselves via the language set so as a result I only have access to Amazon US for instance. A further worry is that my dual sims keep telling me I'm roaming even though they are registered in the UK.
The phone is unbranded but is an Android 4.0.4 MTK6577 Dual Core 1.0GHz 512MB/4GB 4.3-inch Capacitive Screen 3G Smartphone with WiFi GPS HDMI bought from DrakoTec via Amazon UK.
Under the Settings/Language area there seems to be a restricted list of available languages available and specifically only English, which is English US. The strange thing is I can select an English UK keyboard.
Any ideas on how one might change the language to English UK via some hidden menu or are we talking of rooting only?
Many thanks in advance for you help.

Well it looks as if I have managed to solve this myself .
Discovered an interesting app called Set Locale and Language, by brucedior, in the Play store and it works. Even rebooted and it kept the change so anybody else having an issue with missing languages check out that free app.
