City ID - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I have the AT&T Skyrocket and it came preinstalled with City ID which shows the city/state of the call. From what I've read this app is trial version, and then you have to pay for it?
I've had my phone for 3 weeks, and I have yet to see the prompt asking me to download the full version. When I call the lovely people at AT&T, they seem to have no idea what this app is, and they've told me to call Samsung.
Is this a subscription based app? What's the charge? How come I haven't seen a prompt to subscribe?

Mine prompted me after like 2-3 days. Im not sure if its a time trial or based on a set number of incoming calls. After the freebe was up I removed it using TI Backup.
I don't get calls from people I do not know though...

[Q] selective caller id blocking

So I was googling for an answer and my research has come up with absolutely squat to solve my solution. So I am hoping someone here can come up with an answer for me.
I had for the last few phones a bunch of WM phones where they have the option to block my outgoing caller ID to non contacts. I am fully aware that Android offers in the options setting to either block it to all outgoing (which isn't of value because it blocks it also to people who I could care less if they have my number) and the other option to show it to everyone (which I'd rather not some people have my number or it be left on a call log so random people couldn't call back from the phone or employees who I simply dislike not getting my non office number) or the last option to use the standard carrier option which is the same as the last which falls under the same reason.
Does anyone have a solution where I can block my number other than dialing *67 to non contacts to block my number as a standard option that the phone would automatically do like WM used to do?

I have a Captivate from AT&T. It has the Android OS and it does have a setting to withhold your number from people who are not in your contacts. You go to call settings, all calls, show my number, and choose By network.
With that said, you should be aware that on AT&T's network this only works if you don't update your phone with firmware update 2.1 update 1. AT&T had this function turned off in this update because they want to charge people $2 a month to withhold your number from people that do not have you in their contacts. I found this out the hard way after I updated. I spent all morning talking to tech support for both Samsung and AT&T. Tech support at Samsung told me that it does not say in the release notes for the update that this function was going to be disabled in that update. Samsung also told me that AT&T decides what is in the maintenance updates. AT&T's customer service said I could pay $2 a month for the function and AT&T's tech support said all they can do is revert the phone back to the old firmware. Maybe if enough AT&T customers complain they will have the function turned back on in the next update.

Have you tried spoofapp? I don't know if caller ID spoofing would be acceptable for your need or not. I've never used it, so I don't know what kind of configuration it would take, but it seems like a hassle. You "place" the call, spoofapp calls you back, when you answer it connects your call with the desired spoofed ID

yeah I looked at it but you have to pay credits into the thing which means paying on a regular basis. So kind of defeating the purpose of it. I do appreciated the look around for it though. I saw the same post either on here or android central.
Just an FYI, many people, myself included won't answer calls where somebody has blocked their Caller ID. That's why we have Caller ID in the first place, so we know who's calling

You miss the point, if you are on the contact list you would be privy to seeing my ID come up anyways. Its people that don't need to have a non work private number that are not deserving of it since you really don't want people from work having the number unless its needed.

Make a Google voice account. When you don't want people to have your regular number, call them with GV and they will have that number.

[Q] I think I got scammed through Google Voice

Ok so I know I know I shouldn't have done it, but it's too late for that now, so please don't say don't I shouldn't have done this.
Someone took over my cell number with Google Voice and is texting and calling people about items on Craigslist. Then the poor people call me thinking I'm interested in their items. Arggg for both of us!!!
Ok so her's how it started:
I get a text from someone interested in buying my item
I text back and forth with them
They say, "I'll call you to set-up a pick-up time/location, when I call just press 01 and it will connect us"
I get a call and it's google voice, I press 01 and then it asks me to set-up my voicemail
Now I am getting calls from random people about their stuff they want to sell me...Arg!!
Went to google.com/voice and thought let me set-up an account before they get a hold of my number completely, but it was too late. I get the error "Account Creation" "There was an error with your request. Please try again"
I've never used Google Voice before today.
Tried it about a million times on, Android, FF, IE, and Chrome with the same result.
Anyone have a solution for this?

They didn't take over my number completely, I'm getting calls and texts from people I know too, but also calls from people who say I called them about their items.

Perhaps they setup google voice account based on your phone number. But since it is your phone number that is linked to this google voice account, you maybe able to gain control of it.
First try to find out the phone number that people are dialing when they call you. I don't meant the people you know, I am talking about the people who call you randomly and tell you that you called them about some craigslist add. This will be the google voice number that is linked to your cell number.
Now if you call this number, the system might recognize you as owner and let you access the account from your cell phone, listen to voicemails and change greetings.
You might need to setup a google voice account for yourself using your home phone number for example and try to reclaim your cell number.
Well it's been about a week with no more calls to my phone from people I don't know about stuff I'm not selling...I hope it resolved itself.

Weird phone calls, possible pranks? Not sure what to do

This may be totally irrelevant to the thread, not sure where else to put it.
It started on 3/11/14, I got a phone call from an 813-408-???? number. A boston sounding man pretending to be from a local pizza joint, saying I ordered 3 pizzas and my card I gave was declined and needed a new card. I figured it was a scam to take my info because I (and no one in my household) had ever ordered from this place). The man sounded scripted, pre-recorded or perhaps a mobile app just messing with me. Anytime I spoke, his speaking stopped and it/he wouldn't answer me when I spoke. I hung up, after a few minutes, I called back. I didn't get an answer both times I called back, just a man's voicemail for his home business.
Later, I got a call from another 813-408-???? number, but different from the first. It was a man claiming I was messaging his girlfriend on Facebook. His responses also sounded scripted or like recordings from an app. I assumed it was another prank, so I said little and hungup. I immediately called the number back and the man sounded confused and swore he didn't call me.
I thought these calls were weird because my number is also an 813-408-????.
Later in the same day, I was playing xbox with a friend of mine. My phone rang from his number, but he swore he wasn't calling me. Just after that, his phone rang from my number, but my phone wasn't calling him.
The next day, 03/12/14, I got a call from the same friend. The phone showed his name and correct number (i have it memorized). I answered and it was a female voice, claiming I was talking to her boyfriend on Facebook. Her voice ALSO seeming scripted or recorded. My buddy wasn't even near his phone, he was playing softball and swore he wasn't doing anything.
Not sure what I need to do to get this to stop. Don't know if changing my number will help or not and would prefer not to do that.
If it matters: I am running Cyanogenmod 11, up-to-date nightly's. I've been on Cyanogenmod as long as it's been available for the Nexus 5. It's a black 16GB US model and i'm on AT&T. I've never had anything like this happen before.
Faster version: I got a weird call from an unknown number from a recording or app. A second weird call from a different number comes in, same weird recording conversation and scripting. Illegitimate calls to and from my phone occur. Illegitimate call from a friend's phone that he didn't send. I have no problem sending or receiving calls or texts, nothing else seems to be off. I'm on CM11 3/12/14 nightly.
Any ideas?
Do you have a common friend between you and your other friends? Somebody is messing with you. And must be close enough to know y'all numbers. It's very easy to spoof a number to make it seem like somebody else is calling.
Also take note that many area codes like 419 817 737 ect....will get all your info within 3 secs if its a hacker lol. There's a huge list online just Google it. Hope that helps out. If not then get Mr. Number. You can block all numbers and voicemails texts.....except your contacts list

I'm betting someone is playing a real crappy prank on you. A friend of mine showed me this app one time that would allow you to enter any "from" number of your choosing with a pre-recorded prank attached. Basically the app would prank call whoever you chose with the fake or made up number showing up in the caller ID. When the call comes in, it sounds super convincing, down to the voice of the guy who's threatening to kick your butt for messing with his girlfriend. What you don't know, is that app is also recording your voice responses so whoever is pranking you gets to hear a recording of the entire call, similar to a phone prank done by a radio station. I would just listen for the familiar details and just hang up when you realize its the prankster. They'll give up eventually and if they know you will probably come clean at some point.
It's not a prank. It's scammy phishing robo-calls. I get them infrequently. Typically the "you have won a free cruise" baloney. However the pizza call is another known angle. For me it's usually one of 3 numbers. A 1 877 number, a random US number and a number that is almost identical to my own phone number.
Just get a blocking app or don't answer the call if you don't recognise the number. If it is a valid call, the caller will leave you a voicemail detailing why they were legitimately calling you in the first place. The robocall will just disconnect once it hits your voicemail.
Sorry, I should update that the above was in regards to the pizza call. The Facebook call is a prank - just search "Don't Message My Girlfriend".
I'm in the UK but when I Skype my wife in LA its a local LA number. Freaked her first time. You got no idea where calls come from these days. I use a call block. Robot call centers after ambulance chasing buisness etc are big here. Not your phone, or rom and don't let it rent space in your head. Block n move on

If it's anything like the uk if you read the small print of your contact (especially if it's like a retail shop - carphone warehouse, phones4u etc over here) it actually says we will give your number out to these annoying marketing company's and there's nothing you can do about it if you want the contract!! (which is why their contacts are normally better than direct from the provider)

Well, I can tell the calls I received were all similar sounding in their responses, so I did hang up. I figured it was a prank app or something along those lines. I just ended up hanging up the call. I can block the numbers I have gotten, I'm just getting a lot of them.
I guess I just have to rely on a voicemail from a legitimate caller.

Porting my number to Verizon is how I left my last carrier. Though, Google isn't a carrier.
Like my last carrier, the Google Voice app cannot configure voicemail automatically. It has to be done via the number porting thing.
I suppose the best thing is to go ask Verizon, but I won't have time to do that until Monday afternoon, and I'm here now, among people who know Verizon better than I do, so I figured I'd cast a line here and hope somebody knows what's what.

Yes you can but yes it will close your verizon account and they will bill you the etf. The google voice is a good choice though its $20 to port your number but you will never lose your number then and google wont charge anything more than the $20 port fee. You can then receive free calls and texts over wifi. And when you get new service with a new number you can forward your calls and texts from your google voice number to your new number or just use the google voice app to receive your calls and texts from your google voice number. This is good quality calls too and both calls and texts over wifi. Getting texts over wifi is a big deal as most texting apps you cannot receive texts over wifi so if you have no cell signal but have wifi you can still make and receive calls and texts. I use it myself.

You don't have to port your number to use Google Voice for voicemail - just go through the automatic setup steps and when you get to the step that it says it can't automatically configure, go to Voicemail->Service->Google Voice (from My Carrier) and you're set. I'm currently on a CM rom so the exact settings options might be named slightly differently.
I seem to remember there being an extra step somewhere the first time you ever set it up but I don't remember since I did it many years ago. Bottom line is that using Google Voice for voicemail is very possible and doesn't require any porting of numbers.
There is a number u have to dial to get your voicemail set up as google. Its in the directions in the voice app.

Tmobile Digits Beta warning!

I signed up for the Tmobile Digits service which is supposed to work somewhat like AT&T's number sync. Basically it assigns the same phone number as your phone to your watch or more than one device. The theory is that when you use your phone in standalone mode the watch acts like your phone for texts and calls. So I signed up. Big mistake and I should have figured. How would I forward stuff from my phone to my own number on the watch.
So I sign up and first thing is that Tmobile does is change my watch number to something different than the phone so basically my watch is useless in standalone mode because the watch thinks it's another phone number that doesn't exist. I can't even make phone calls from the watch in standalone.
I call support and they forward me to a special group that handles the new digits program. I basically tell them to forget about it and change my number back to the old number and nobody at Tmobile can change my number back. My watch now has a phone number that doesn't exist and tmobile can't fix it. They supposedly sent it to it another group which may take a few days to correct the problem. Not only that, the rep told me that they were having issues with gear watches not working with the service because messaging forwarding doesn't work when the watch has the same number.
So I am basically SOL for a few days until they can change my watch back to the old number.
I am also on Digits. I thought the same thing when the Beta software changed my number on the S3. Actually it is way better than the current call forward setup. Your watch now virtually simulates your main phone number to your phone. When you are connected via BT you get all your calls, data, etc... through the phone. Say you forget or leave your phone, your watch is now on the mobile network (if you set your mobile network settings to auto). So if you get a call or text to your mobile phone it will simultaneously ring/arrive on both your phone and your watch. You don't have to remember to turn on call forwarding. You can no longer call your Gear S3 number, it is tied to the virtual number.
It is still in beta so there are some bugs, but so far I have been able to add my Gear S3, Gear S2, and my primary phone to the Digits Service. All 3 devices ring or receive text at the same time when someone calls/texts me.

I had the exact same freak out and called into the department last week and they were so confused lol. Saw my sim numbers swapped on my account and the inability to dial out and had to explain everything to them, with them offering a potential fix upon more research.
I do agree with the above in terms of a better method of call forwarding when working with a non Samsung smartphone. I'm using an LG V20 and prior to Digits I would have to enable call forwarding if I knew I was planning to be away from my phone, not allowing me to forget my phone and remain connected.
However when using a Samsung smartphone, you have an auto call forwarding option in the Gear Manager app. I had my Note 5/S7E/Note 7 paired up to my Gear S2 Classic 3G and it would auto call forward upon being disconnected via Bluetooth, basically doing what Digits does without the virtual number.
Somehow my ability to dial out self resolved so now I'm digging this setup

This is the first week of beta testing. Issues are to be expected. Those (like me) who have no appetite for dealing with this shouldn't volunteer.
T-Mobile will figure it out. Sharing a number across devices will become a necessary linchpin as we become increasingly more connected.
T-Mobile won't charge much for Digits. AT&T and Verizon don't charge for their (admittedly less capable) service. And Google Voice, which Digits is modeled after, is also free.

Personally I'm not too worried. They state the service shouldn't cost much once it arrives, though I do feel they should issue the finished product free to beta testers for a limited time for our services.
If I go back to Samsung which is most likely, that will eliminate my need for it. If I don't, well the discount on my bill makes it dirt cheap that I'm not losing sleep over it. Perks of working at T-Mobile haha
Well all I know is that they changed my watch number to to some different number that doesn't exist on my account and nobody can correct it or change it back to the old way. I'm going on 3 days now and nobody can resolve the issue. I asked that they just take me off the beta and they can't even do that.
I understand that it's a beta and you live with the growing pains of bugs but PLEASE! They can't even take me off the program and restore my service back to normal! That means this is more of an Alpha than Beta stage! You don't release a Beta when you can't even get the basic functionality right!
Not to mention I am being sent numerous text messages that I added a new line to my account and when I call tmobile is clueless as to why I am getting those messages which I am sure it is due to digits.
Tmobile has nice customer service reps and great prices but when it comes to company communication and overall customer service experience they are clueless. I have never experienced a company more clueless and disorganized! I went through the Note fiasco with them and when I first started they shipped me like 10 iPads when I only ordered 1.
Sorry but Tmobile is a joke. I only stick with them because of convenience.
I'm having a great experience with the beta program so far, it's way better than the Samsung Auto forwarding. Because when I'm out and about and I make calls from the watch when the phone is at home it shows my actual phone number and not the watch phone number, and everything important is forwarded to my watch as well.

In the beta digits program also I have my gear s3 and gear s tied to my original number. I have to wait for the gear s tho cause they are sending me a sim card I don't know why I can't use the one I already have in it.
Digits works well for me
I am really enjoying my digits experience. I frequently leave my phone at home or in the car on the charger. Before digits my calls would not always be forwarded from my s6 edge to my gear s2 causing me to miss calls at times. That defeated the purpose of me paying for the watch number. I also hated that in the event I left my phone at home and forwarding was not working people could not reach me on my watch had I not given them that number. I have no trouble placing calls from the watch in standalone mode. My only annoyance with the program is when I do go outside of Bluetooth range all my texts are synced to my watch, which I just do not need. I wish there was an option to turn this off or on since I do not need it but some people might. I will definitely keep digits provided it does not cost me much more than the watch line I pay for currently.

Do I cancel the Gear S2's service and then use its SIM to sign up for the beta? Or do I have to keep the service active? Cause that's what I did - kept the service, signed up for the beta with the SIM number, but nothing's happened and the watch still has its own number. Does it take a while to change over?

T-Mobile will send you a welcome to digits email and instructions on how to set up on your phone. It took 24 hours for me to get the email. You can also call t-mobile and ask to speak to the digits beta team and they will patch you through and the beta team can pull up your request and speed up the process.

So I was paying for watch plan when I signed up for digits beta. Tmobile was more than happy for me to keep paying. However I was having issues with digits not working and still missing calls. Finally I got someone on the phone that knew that I didn't need the watch line I only needed the digits line. Has worked great since they stopped the watch line and linked my digits with my phone. The digits line incluse so many my of data which is why the separate watch plan is unneeded.
