[Q] Help Please - HTC Desire S

Hi All.
I S-Offed and Rooted my Desire S. Since doing this the phone has been a nightmare. It hangs, making calls is a joke, it switches itself off, doesn't hold a network signal, doesn't update, asks me to set the time zone everytime I use it, it's horrible.
This sounds dumb, but can I S-On and restore it to how it came out of the box? I really regret doing this cause my phone is rendered almost useless.
I look forward to some guidance, thank you.

install a stable custom rom. follow the s-on guide.

Mmm, not very helpful.
Which is the most stable ROM for the Desire S?
Where is the S-On guide?
Thanks.

One of the nicest sense roms about at the moment is Endymion, it is stable and has great support from both the dev and users. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1310845

[Q] Stock vs. Custom ROM

I got my sensation last week. It's rooted, and clockwork is already installed on it. I had CM7 on it for about 5 minutes, but I liked the Sense UI better so I just went back to stock because I didn't have time to look for a SENSE Custom ROM.
I'm wondering if it's worth it to go off stock and go to a Custom Sense ROM? I saw Android Revolution HD, and I think the only step I'm missing is that Radio S-OFF.
Anyways, is it worth it to go to a Custom ROM or just stay stock? It's pure preference probably, but pros, cons kind of thing I'm leaning towards yes because I like that ARHD 1.5ghz oc. =)
Im using ARHD 3.6.0 and im loving it.
Better battery, snappier, plus you can flash themes and mods
I would definitely go with any custom rom over stock.
If you rooted with revulutionary you are good to go (already have radio S-OFF)
i like Sense 3.0 but CM7 have more performance
just got my sensation yesterday and played around all day in stock just to get a good feel for it before going to a custom rom which was a definite. i went for android revolution and it's definitely snappier. apps load faster, and the ones that access the web seem to do it faster too.

I didn't root using the methods of revolutionary. If I want to install Revolutionary how would I go about it? I can safely install CM7 already. I still have to do that Radio S-OFF don't I?
Is it just me or does the use of the word "snappier" as in, "it feels snappier now" make you feel that it really isn't much of a difference? When I used to want to tout the speed of some device or app I would say it was faster but I would use the word "snappy" if I couldn't really justify the use of the word "fast".
That being said, when I moved onto the Sensation I tried to go through all the hoops to get off stock but then realized it was just a waste of time considering my Sensation is perfectly fast and stable as is.

Follow this method to get S-OFF, from what I read it also RADIO-OFF's for you as well. Its what I did to flash rev. HD

That's the method I used to S-OFF. Is it the same as Revolutionary's Radio S-OFF?
Try pyramid3d. Its a good rom

[Q] Very VERY new to all this

Okay, here we go.. i recently bought my Sensation XE and am very pleased with the phone.
But there are som changes i would really love..
And here is my question: What ROM should i use?
I have been looking around alot and i am honestly very confused by all the different posts and statements of people so i decided to make my own post instead.
My phone is rooted and i have ClockworkMod Recovery. That's as far as i have come. What now?
Here are some of my specs from my HBOOT screen (i think it is the HBOOT) in case it can be of any use:
-Revolutionary-
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.17.1111
RADIO-10.14.9035.02_2
eMMC-boot
Jun 2 2011,22:31:39
I would like to test out a new ROM.
Does my Radio have to be updated ?
I have read alot about this CyanogenMod but have no clue as to which version to go for.
CM 7.2 RC1? (Edit: Hmm, Seems that this hasn't been released yet? or?)
CM 7.1 RC3? (Edit: Hmm, Is this the one i should go for? in case it is. can i have a direct download link since I don't have a clue)
or even another ROM. no clue.. help?
In advance, Thanks alot to everyone who will drop their 2 cents.
Edit: This "RUU" - Like this: "RUU_Pyramid_LE_HTC_Europe_1.73.401.2_Radio_10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2_release_215830_signed.exe 385.11 MB 2 months ago"
Is that the original ROM from the carriers? or what? geez.. this is a jungle :I
If you are sense lover then use energy sense3.5 or elangsia rom

First of all, welcome to the sensation forums!!!
This device will not disappoint you :]
In these forums you'll find 100s of great developers who are willing to help you in any way they can
Now my recommendations for a rom would be the Virtuous 3.0.0 rom. This is basically a rom that is stripped out of the sense interface and replaced with a really great AOSP feel. This rom is exceedingly fast and as far as I can tell, has no bugs whatsoever. Another reason why I love this rom is because of the amount of free ram that I have...First I received my sensation and it only had 100mb ram free, with nothing open. But in this rom you get over 300mb of free ram that you can decide what to do with!!!
Good luck with your new phone.
Have a good day!
Go through the following thread. It will be worth looking.

One thing that you need to learn is to make suer you get the right ROM for your phone. You can't just download any ROm and put it on your phone. Not even a ROM that is available for your phone. It has to be a ROM that is available for your phone and the version that is made specifically for your phone.
If you are looking at CM 7.2 RC you aren't looking at Sensation ROMs.
Cyanogen never made a release candidate of version 7 for the Sensation. There is an Alpha version of it (meaning it's got bugs and not everything works right) but not a RC, or release candidate.
If you got a CM 7.2 RC and tried to put it on the Sensation it wouldn't work, and could make things very bad.
Now, when CM has a stable build it's awesome. It gives you one of teh most controllable ROM's out there, with access to just about every possible setting you can think of, plus several special features that simply aren't available on a stock ROM.
There is a CyanogenMod 9 in the works now, but there's no release date yet. The main difference is that it's based off the newest version of Android.
Since you're new, just flash gingerbread roms to start with... I know its kinda hard to browse for it because of the ICS roms... You should be able to find those gingerbread roms under the same thread with the ics...

Thanks all for the good answers. It's seems i should try to stick to gingerbread ROM's for now.
So now my question is: If you can advise any other ROM's?
Pro's?
Con's?
There are these two suggestions / Advises so far.

Again, Thanks alot for your time and help. It's very appreaciated.
I use insertcoin 3.4.4... Pretty stable and no problem... One thing, you can't forward mms, it will save it in draft and you can send it from there... I don't send mms that much anyway so it works for me...
Once you get use to flashing roms, youll be fine flashing ics roms... Just a bit difference because of the firmware ...
You're welcome... Be careful and read every detail.... Always match the md5 sum or sha1 sum for the files, if given... You'll be able to.find md5 checker a lot in the web for free

If you want CM7 (in other words, stock Android Gingerbread plus CM improvements) go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258543
If you want CM9 (stock Android Ice Cream Sandwich plus CM improvements) first read the guide to enjoying ICS the guy posted above, then go to the site RootzWiki and in the Sensation section you'll find a pretty good build of CM9.
firstly LOL at your HUUUGE banner ^^
Secondly, Why not mention Insertcoin or sense-a-maniac with android 4.0.3? I used miui for weeks then went back to sense and love it!

Have been thinking a long time about rooting my Sensation, but havent done it yet cus 4.0 is comming up in the end of march. But it got me thinking, when 4.0 comes out and I conclude. That it sucks, will i be avible to root it and innstall custom rom kernel on it? Or do I have to wait until the devs have done som magic?
Thanks for pros cons on this, and thanks for this great forum - allways fun reading!

same thought and when a stable ruu of sense 4.0 comes out and you like it(test it with normal kernel no custom for good test)you can s-on again and u have it tested and u can make it undone always remeber to look up ur ruu first!
anyone got a link with the htc sensation europa ruu of the stock 2.3.4?
All the custom ICS ROMs based on RUU 3.30.4 and 3.30.401 are very stable, fast, smooth and reliable. Sense 3.6 is a bit nicer than 3.0 or 3.5, so there's an advantage there as well.
When (if) Sense 4.0 comes out for Sensation, you'll be ready to go, we will probably get it before the general public anyway.
If you do root and want to go to an Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0.3/Sense 3.6) make sure you read the threads relating to upgrading firmware etc., you can get stuck, or even brick your phone if you don't follow the instructions to the letter.
Look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21989063&postcount=1
Good luck and don't forget to have some fun.

Take the plunge!
All the ICS roms out now are pretty stable and there are a lot of guides that will help you get to that moment. Make sure to READ AND UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING before you do anything to your phone!
yeh. we will have a stable sense 4.0 here in a month or so.
as of now. there is 2 sense 4.0 roms. and MODS dont bash me for this.
Trips rom and Mdeejay's rom. from what i read. trip has almost everything working. and mdeejay's rom is getting there. my 2 cents
If I just root my phone but still use the stock ROM (no change, mods whatsoever) can I still receive the OTA update without problem?

Probably not. If you are interested in the OTA I think you may be better off staying stock, unrooted.
If you do root, odds are you would have to get the updated RUU yourself and run it.
If you were planning on staying with stock ROMs and kernels, rooting is not a good idea, if only for the warranty issues.

Bad choice, dude, for a first time rooter.
Read thru XDA. This is the largest group of Android development reviewers on the planet.
My recommendation would be InsertCoin 4.6.1.
The S4X build will be stable in a couple more iterations. The Virtuous Team is working hard on it.

Once you work with stable-r (err...) ROMs, your confidence in ROMs will grow, and you can explore the others.

i was staying with ARHD for to long, i would try a nonsense rom first to let you see what your phone is relly capable of. mine can have 300 mb ram free wjen not using my phone and read my sig why i sometimes need the 150 mb ram eating sense to go away
stock htc ics without root would suck anyways. ads and bloat galore

New to the Sensation!

Hey everybody , I just got my Sensation as a trade for my G2 and I'm looking for some help.
I've already rooted it with S-OFF but what else do I need to flash an ICS rom? Also which ones are the most popular with the least problems?
Thanks in advance
Just search the forum, there are plenty guides for this which are very clear, even if you don't know much about this subject.
Just be sure that you will follow ALL the steps correctly!

new to the sensation myself got it yesterday !
I would go for the Android Revolution HD thats what im on.. Its a nice clean fast smooth ROM, and it would be a good way to start and to learn about the phone, before you dive into more difficult ROMs and such.
Theres serveral noob proof guides on how to flash this ROM. Read them carefully and dont skip any steps and you will be fine I was !
Android Development Section will be your new best friend. Familiarize yourself with the stickies and you'll be golden.
I've tried a lot of ICS roms, and for some reason, I could never get myself to use ARHD for very long. It's the most popular ROM for the Sensation, but I feel like its bloaty. InsertCoin also has a devout following here. Haven't had the chance to try it for myself though. Elegancia is interesting, but the theming was excessive and I had to flash something else immediately to avoid hurling. LeeDroid usually does good work, but he rarely updates for the Sensation anymore since he now has an EVO3D.
If you want to give AOSP (Android Open Source Project, which basically means stock android) a shot, try Virtuous Inquisition. AndroidME is also a good ROM to work with, for Sense. I can attest to CDTdroids skill. I ran his Pyramid3D Rom for over four months. And this is coming fro someone who gets twitchy when I don't get my flashing fix.
Jokes aside, you really have to try them all to see what you're looking for in a ROM. You might discover that you really like stability from ARHD. Or maybe you like how buff a phone gets with an overclocked kernel like the one in Elegancia. You won't know until you try them all out. Hope this helps a little bit.

Thanks a lot for the replys. I've pretty much settled in and rooted my Sensation. Now i'm running ARHD and so far it's absolutely freaking flawless.
This phone is definitely a HUGE step up in quality than the G2 :\ Why didn't i get this sooner!
New to sensation myself, flashing roms almost daily :-\

Best non-Sense ICS rom? and is this the best way to upgrade?

hey guys,
So im still on Gingerbread. Thinking of finally upgrading to ICS. I have a Tmo Sensation 4g.
So I was going to use this guide to follow as the upgrade procedure to ICS:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472298
But instead of flashing the exact rom in the guide, I was thinking of flashing a non-sense version...
So 2 questions:
1. Can I just follow that guide and flash any ICS rom, or since Im following that guide do i need to flash the same rom that is in that guide rom? If I do flash the rom in that guide, since Ill be on the correct firmware, can I just go then and flash any of the new ICS Roms?
2. what would you guys consider to be the most stable, cleanest, or best non Sense/Senseless/ or Sense-stripped ICS Rom?
Thanks so much everyone. I realize there are lots of related posts, but I cant find an exact answer for my question
If you want a non-sense rom, flash the Virtuous Inquisition. It's pretty stable and i highly recommend it. Remember to flash the 3.32 firmware before flashing the rom.
And no, you don't have to flash the rom found in the guide if you don't want to.
thanks.
another quick question.
when ICS roms first started coming out, i seem to remember that there was some sort of setting where you had to enable or force both cores to run. is this still the case? if so, how?
thanks
Go with HyperNonSense, its really the only functional "no sense" ROM at this time. It also happens to be pretty good!
thanks for the response
i was thinking of going with Virtous Inquisition... but have not flashed it yet. Can you please tell me why Hypernonsense would be a better choice?
Thanks

Agree with this guy. Try it out yourself!
As for the other guy, he claims it's the only functional "no-sense" Rom without any backup/proof... It's already clear here that it's all opinion. I wouldn't believe him and I think he's just blurting that out, due to love for his fav rom. I'd do the same!
i use hypernonsense 1.5
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350492
thanks for all the responses. I first flashed ARHD ICS from GB yesterday as my first ICS rom. then i flashed hypernonsense due to the suggestion above as i am completely sick of sense.
all I can say is wow. this is by far the most i have loved my phone in a long time. will probably try VI at some point or any other non sense roms. but after leaving sense, I sure can not see myself going back to sense.
I used to have a first gen mytouch3g, then Vibrant, and now I finally like my Sensation
if anyone has yet to try a non sense rom, I strongly urge you to try one. the phone is so damn buttery smooth and it feels like a completely different phone
In sense roms i prefer : ARHD , InsertCoin
Non sense : Virtous , hypernosense
