[Q] HTC Sensation and HTC Sensation XE. - General Questions and Answers

So, I am looking for a new phone. My wildfire is at the end of it's life, and with an Armv6 processor android 4.0 isn't something that's going to run smooth. add that up with a crappy screen and you should understand that I want a new one
I spoke to a salesman in the store today, and he told me that between HTC Sensation and Sensation XE hardly is a differance (if you replace the rom). The CPU's are the same, only the Sensation is underclocked.
There is a quite a price diffirence, and with the money I save from buying the HTC sensation instead of the XE I can easily buy a beats headset.
However, I do not always believe salesmen. Could one of XDA's finest shed some light on this?
I intend to strip off HTC sense ASAP and run custom roms, like CM7.1 (or CM9).
Thank you in advance,
Althestrasz.

It has software to optimize the beats too which really makes a difference. But yes, you will be happy with either. Not a big difference for the price.
Hit that thank button if I helped!

XEs battery is 1730mah
That sure makes a lot of difference. I get through one day of normal usage on the stock battery (XE) and that justified the extra price for me.

Buying a bigger battery at HTC.com would be cheaper than buying the XE Thanks for your view though.

Hi,
If it ain't broke....
Stick with what you have if it's working well for you.
You will be buying exactly the same phone underneath, and you will have been taken in by an HTC marketing scam.
Spend your money on some good earphones.
if i never had bought Sensation then I would have bought the XE coz price difference between new XE and Normal Sensation is just 50$ in my country.
since I already own a Sensation then there is no reason to upgrade. it's the same thing but with some addons that I can add to me sensation even later to make it an XE.. except for the red led lights which I don't like anyway...
I have a suggestion, Don't get the Sensation XE, Stick with the Sensation and flash an XE rom, Like ARHD. And you will have virtually a Sensation XE (Just without the red paint and the overpriced headphones)
Don't get it man, you'd be throwing away your money. If you really like the XE's look then just buy the XE's housing off of Ebay their only around USD$35. If you're really up for it and know some things about hardware buy some red LEDs and swap out the white ones and put the red ones in. Overall you should spend about USD$40~$50 swapping out both the LED and the housing. Skip this upgrade mate and get a quad-core in 2012 or the Nexus Prime.
Thank you all really..
I realised also, that, my sensation is working flawlessly, and there is no reason to change it to almost same phone...
And ARHD rom is different from IC roms ?

Hi,
Only way to find out is make a nandroid backup.
Flash ARHD,and if you don't like ,restore IC.
I wouldn't buy it, definitely not. I think the looks of the normal Sensation are better, the normal sensation is cheaper (even when you buy an Anker battery which is even better than the XE battery) and the hardware is basically the same. So just flash an XE rom on your standard Sensation is my suggestion
Does the XE's 4gig of internal memory (not all user accessible) have any benefit, other than greater rom space?

Hi,
It gives the user 1GB of space for apps.
Hi getting upgrade from my provider the difference is about 40 e. Would XE be worth than?
No need for flashing (for a moment ) + better headphones + overclocked from htc
Thanks

Does my phone have to be rooted to flash the XE rom on the standard sensation?

Yes, go ahead and root ........ you know you want to
Good thread! Thanks for opening it! Got all my questions answered here!
Low Ring Volume
Does the Sensation XE suffer also from the Low Ring Volume or does it have better speaker and lauder volume set?

Sensation vs Sensation XE

Hi guys,
Very soon I'll be upgrading my from my Xperia X10 and have been looking to get the Htc Sensation Xe.
But after some thorough research I noticed that they have very similiar specs and now I'm unsure over which one I should get.
I know that because they use the same CPU and GPU then if I were to get the Sensation I could overclock it to match the XE.
And the fact that the XE has 3GB more internal storage compared to the Sensation. If I get the Sensation can I expect to see the same amount of updates as the XE?
Anyways I'd mainly just like to request opinions from the rest of you on what I should do!
Thanks in advance
I'm assuming the HTC sensation is cheaper. Is go with the sensation. Yes we have roms and kernels to make it just as quick.I personally don't like storing things on my phone so the internal gb isn't that great to me. Ics is coming to sensation. Stick with the sensation. Xe seems like a rip off.

when i got my xe senstation and xe were both the same price, if thats the case get an xe! It looks cool and you get £80 beats handsfree with them
If you get the XE for the same price take it and you will get ear phones which will cost probably more than 60 €. ON the other hand the beats "extension" is only different software and there are a lot of customer roms for the sensation which includes that piece of software.
I've chose the XE. It looks nice (all black) and here in the Netherlands u get some fancy ear buds who cost like 75€ without the phone

[Q] Sensation (XE)???

hey whats up XDA Forums? i'm new to these forums and to android in general but i have a basic knowledge (kinda)... i just wanted to ask about all these ROM's and unlocks that seem to be everywhere. are they interchangeable between the sensation and the sensation XE??? like if there is a ROM or an unlock made for the sensation then can i also use it for the XE??? if not then why isnt there a separate forum section for the XE?
thanks in advance.

Yes they are, the XE is basically the same phone and all roms are usable. That's why the XE forum was closed no need for it.

I'm not on an XE I've got a T-Mobile sensation 4g. I just flashed arhd and it changes it to say that in the build.prop. (so yeah I'm rooted) I'm absolutely sure you can do anything in this forum for your phone it has the exact same hardware. The only difference is the stock CPU speed is higher, I run at a higher speed than 1.5 now anyway. I have the exact same phone as an XE except for the red in the case and the bigger battery.
All the roms pretty much work as advertised. Some better than others It's up to you to try them all and find out what you like and don't. . That's part of the fun of it.
Do I recommend it... Yes.. the sgs2 is a very good phone too, its a matter of opinion. Personally I wish I could get the gnexus but I'm happy with my sensation.
See my signature now.. I changed the build.prop to sensation 4g without changing roms. (i don't expect you to know what that is but still)

Hi to all, I'm basically new here and to android and also to sensation, I'd like to ask if there is any noticeable difference when it comes to speed between the sensation and sensation XE? because I've notice that they have the same chipset the MSM8260. If I am to buy a sensation what would you recommend to be better the basic or the XE?
Thanks alot for your time and patience with me

They have identical processors. HTC Underclocked the CPU on the standard phone down to 1.2GHz, with the XE they let it run at its default setting of 1.5GHz. With Custom ROMs you can overclock either Standard or XE to 1.7Ghz or possibly higher, depends on the actual silicon in the phone, i.e. some phones can handle overclocking better than others.
I believe the XE has a slightly larger capacity battery, up from 1500 to 1700 mAh (not certain the exact figures).
Thanks for the insights, I think I'll go with XE, because I have seen in some post that most processors are done with the same chips and then tested for stability if they are stable without errors they are sold at the advertised clock speed if not they sell it at lower speed..
so it might be a matter of luck if the underclocked cpu would be run at its default speed..
can anyone expound more on this?

Nope, My original Sensation is clocking @1.72Ghz with fantastic battery life and no overheating issues.
My recommendation would be to go for the original Sensation if you can get it cheaper Those Beats headphones aren't all they are made up to be, and i've got the XE software running quite happily.

But going for the XE also yields a better battery, so if they are the same price, i would def. go for the XE

£10/$10/€10 wisely spent in Amazon will do better than the XE battery
They won't be of the same price..its because of the over hyped beat earphone, I'm not after the earphone though, I've tested it and didm't impress me much..I'm after the battery and the case has a nicer color than the original sensation, though I'm thinking of buying the original if the price diff is wide.
I'll just buy another battery if the need arises.
by the way if any of you were give the choice between XE or XL which would you choose?

XE hands down.
XL is single core and with a slightly bigger screen, not worth it IMO. If you want a big screen with good performance get a Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy Note.
Just got my new XE guys...and very happy with it..
Why doesn't HTC put all the good stuff in one unit?
I like the XE but XL got a better camera and One S got AMOLED and a bigger memory..haist the Corporate mind...

Anyone come from a desire?

As title suggest, has anyone upgraded to a Sensation from a Desire, If so what are your opinions/views?
I have and im slightly underwhelmed by the Sensation Maybe I was expecting too much but the only advantage i can see is a larger screen and a faster phone.
Maybe i need to give it more time?
How about a massive improvement on internal storage?

Hey, nice to see you again 325i
Yes, there are quite a few of us who came from Desire.
I felt the same as you, underwhelmed. After some time you realise, yes, you were expecting too much. Sensation is a better phone, but not THAT MUCH better. Desire is one of the most supported phones by devs, and it had s**t load of ports which is great. Sensation is not going to he like Desire unroll there are a lot newer phones out, like another 10 months I reckon, with newer sense version. Sensation is going to have a lot longer life than Desire due to hardware being on par with newer phones longer than Desire was. Quad core is not going to change much. And I'm sure that Senny will support next Android version easily, and probably one after.
Just enjoy using it, it a good phone, but far from groundbreaking as much as Desire was.

What were you expecting?
I did the same as you some time ago. The desire was very stable and the sensation has severel minor problems but the adequate on board memory of the sensation was, in itself, enough for me!
Hi, I've just got a Sensation xe. I came from a HTC HD2, then a Desire, then a Desire HD. As I always pass the handsets to my completely non tech' savvy family who are not delicate with their technology, I've never rooted / flashed and always remained on stock just in case of warranty requirements. I love the extra on board memory of the Desire HD / Sensation Xe and look at each phone as step in the right direction. They're always familiar and do everything I could possibly want of them (except last 2 or 3 days on the battery) so I'm more than happy with both build quality (and warranty work by HTC, can only speak form experience but very slick when I needed to use it) / Sense etc. The only thing and it is minor, is I just wish I could get the Desire HD keyboard onto my stock sensation xe and despite what all the figures suggest, the screen in the xe definately "seems" skinnier than my Desire HD.
Evolution not revolution as they say and each small step is one in the right direction. (For me anyway). Each to their own but I can understand your feelings if you expected to go from Space shuttle to USS Enterprise!
Yeah dude, I get what u're saying. the desire is the same sort of device as the sensation, can run the same software. So not much of a scope for improvement in the user experience.
Let's see what's up for grabs in 18 montths when my contract expires.
I came from a Desire too, my XE has plenty of internal storage and a larger screen which is good. On the down side though, my phone signal is pants in comparison.

Thanks for the reply, as you say hopefully ill get used to it.
Cheers
I also came from the Desire and feel a bit underwhelmed. At first the biggest disappointment was the screen, that seemed washed out compared to the Desire's amoled screen. After about seven months with the Sensation these things are a bit of a let down:
- There is not enough RAM. Ever so often I get the white htc screen when pressing the home button. Anyone know if ICS / Sense 3.5 will consume even more RAM?
- The phone hangs from time to time - mostly while installing / updating apps ( Also RAM related?).
- Radio signal seems to be very unstable, jumping constantly between 1 - 5 bars ( even when on GSM only). It will also often skip between 3g and H, which never happened with the Desire (always either E or H).
Another issue is that there is a spot (~1x2 mm) at the center of the screen that is brighter than the rest. It's most visible on black/dark/medium dark screens, but also appears as a grey speck on a white screen. Its not visible on light grey background.
I'm consider sending the phone back for service/repair, but I'm not keen on restoring all my apps and settings either.
My friend got a Sensation on upgrade and intended to sell it to get a new turbo for his scooby but made the mistake of playing with mine before selling it.Now he has sold his desire and says that the sensation is way better than his desire ever was.Runs games sooo smooth and being the XE he loves the headphones included
A 4 months ago i passed my Desire to my GF and get Nexus S... in 5 days I changed with Sensation.
I never expected something revolutionary .. but it`s better phone next generation.
With more memory, faster dual core CPU, more adequate battery life (I used my Desire as a second phone due the need of changing 2 batt`s during the office hours. Now my Sensation`s battery is lasting about 10 business hours... and 2 days @ weekend)
There is still a tons of ponts that can be upgraded.. but it`s a technology/pricing, marketing, sales .. and so on decision.

and you don't consider those as major improvements? i do
the Desire was sexy, the Sensation is sexier
I was like this :
lg optimus one > desire > incredible s > sensation.
liked incredible the most, but sensation is much better regarding the dual core and bigger display. better memory performace, better cpu and graphics
(ICS is also promissing)
I'm not so sure, in hindsight I think I was happier with my Incredible S. The 4" screen was just the right size for me, the camera was much better out of the box, although the HD recording was only at 20fps and not 30. But to be fair, what phone has a good HD camera?
I've just come from the trusty old desire to sensation.
Rooted, s-off, ICS Rom etc etc added within an hour of
it being delivered
First impressions are looking good, nice to have a bigger
screen, feels a lot snappier, internal memory is a major
plus point.
Sitting the desire and sensation side by side you can clearly
see its an 'upgrade' not in massive ways, but an upgrade
non the less.
I've just put the desire back to stock to send away for a fix
before selling it, and to be honest I hate what it was out of
the box, how people ranted and raved about the thing ill
never know.
Think ill be sticking to HTC from now on, the desire was a
workhorse, solidly built, unlike other brands which feel like
toys, the sensation feels the same in that regard, feels solid,
looks good, specs that will no doubt be fine for the next year
or maybe 2, seems to be a good community behind it, like the
desire.
Yes the sensation hasn't left me thinking wow, what great phone,
but let's face it, coming from the desire, which is still an excellent
phone and is still holding its ground, I really don't know what could
be added to a phone at this point in time that would give the same
'wow' factor as the desire gave.
I think the 'smartphone' has come of age, anything from now on will
just be gimmicky, and slight upgrades to this and that, I don't think
anything is going to be 'groundbreaking' in the next few years atleast.
So IMO desire > sensation is a worthy 'upgrade' when you look at the
whole package and compare it to what else is available at the moment.
But I guess only time will tell..
I also came from the desire, then desire HD, now the Sensation.
I will usually wait until about a few months after a new phone has come out and then buy it on ebay or craigslist, then sell my old one. It usually only ends up costing me about $40 to upgrade.
While I am really happy that there are ICS roms for the Sensation, i'm not as blown away as when I first moved from the desire to the desire HD.
I do prefer the quality of screen on the sensation compared to the dulled out desire hd, and love the multi touch capabilities of anything above the Desire. Though HTC will have to up their game a bit as my next phone will be coming with a contract renewal, and if samsung puts out anything like the Galaxy SII X again with a quad core I might be jumping ship.

[Q] Rplacing a lost phone

I managed to lose my precious HTC Sensation XE and am wondering what is the best thing to do to replace it...
I have briefly looked on Ebay and the going rate seems to be 300-350 UK pounds. A brand new one from a reputable store 400 UK pounds.
I read on an Ebay page that one seller had a careful note of all ID and serial numbers in case anybody returned a phone that was not what it was when origanlly sold - which alarmed me that some may be selling fake or rebadged phones in some way.
[Questions]
Can an HTC Sensation XE not be a real HTC Sensation XE?
What is the best way to check if I buy one on Ebay?
What are the horrible cons I should be aware of?

Yes It can, The only difference between NORMAL and XE is Beats audio, The NORMAL Sensation has 1.5ghz processor (but it has been down clocked by HTC to 1.2ghz) Whereas the XE hasnt. I Have a NORMAL Sensation, but with XE ROM so you would never know....
Check the sellers feedback, Look if he has sold several of these phones and make sure the feedback is positive.. I Would avoid buying from overseas... Like China (massive for fake stuff)
CONS -- There arent many cons, If something seems too good to be true it probably is... Always Make a safe and secure payment via paypal, that way if the seller is dodgy you can claim your money back...
Keep your wits about you and you will be fine, A lot of these phones maybe unwanted upgrades, Ive done it myself in the past..... Get an upgrade and sell it for £300 - keep my current phone which i am happy with - everyone's a winner
Not everyone is a scammer, But they are still out there.....
EDIT: The NORMAL Sensation is quite a lot cheaper than the XE, So if i was you i would Buy a NORMAL one and get Flashing some XE ROMs.. Save your self some money
Grand advice azzledazzle, thanks.
I particularly like the cheaper Sensation option - I hadn't actually considered that, but as I'm not now tied to a provider I won't worry about breaking the warranty rules or whatever so this makes perfect sense - flashing ROMs will be the way to go from now on...
Although I have just looked at the HTC One and I'm very tempted to order a new phone instead.
