[Q] Gaming on the Atrix 2 - Motorola Atrix 2

Is the Atrix 2's GPU good enough to play recent HD games made by Gameloft? Can we use the chainfire app to play Tegra games? Is the Atrix 2's PowerVR SGX540 as good as the Mali 400?

Well i do own a Atrix @ and it pretty much can handle all the games you throw at it when you use Chainfire.

Oh that's good to hear. You don't have that 'apps auto uninstalling bug', do you?

Most everyone does, it's a software bug, which if I recall correctly Motorola is working on. When apps are installed to the external SD card they at times disappear.

As I understand it, the Atrix 2 actually has a slightly better GPU. I'm disappointed to see that that has really been sold short.

Lets golf 2
I lost the preloaded lets golf 2 n having probz with the correct apk...can someone tell me version that was preloaded thanks

I just lost some games that I purchased from gameloft in the market. I bought them on my infuse when they were in sale for 99 cents. Now that I have the A2 they are not in the market anymore for this phone. I put my backups on the A2 from my infuse and when I go to open them they say this device is not compatible. I'm going to contact gameloft to see if I can get the compatible versions and if that fails I'll just play them on my infuse. It doesn't make any sense that they won't play on this phone because its a better phone. O well

Just edit the build.prop to get the games back on market. If you need help just ask.
Also download spare parts and uncheck compatibility mode. This will also make many games and apps work without any other mod. (Make sure you do a restart)

Thanks for that. I just lost root because of the update so I can't edit the build.prop. Once I get it rooted again I'll try it. I did this method on my last phone to get some games to work so I know what you're talking about. I havent heard of doing that with spare parts so I might give that one a try.

Droid charge sucks for games

Is it me or are all first person shooters lag big time on the charge???
Sent from DROID CHARGE 4G-LTE
How about elaborating on that a bit?
What specific games are you trying to play? Are you using Tegrak and playing games that were designed for a specific chipset?
There are so many factors involved in gaming, that just a blanket "Gaming sucks" post serves nothing but ****ting up the forum.
They lag for me at 1.3ghz and voodoo but not as much as stock.

LOL, I was wondering the same thing........

Even so, there are some pretty heavy-duty 3D games on the market that are not FPSes. I've played Need For Speed: Shift, and the drifting one that was free on Amazon this week with 0 issues. Smooth animations and nice high framerates with no problems at all.
I'm guessing OP is trying to play something not built for MSM/Snapdragon/hummingbird using Tegrak.
Yea my guess is its not optimized very well. From my understanding our graphics chip is on par with the rest of the phones out there.

Nope, that's not true. I can say that for any single core phones, Charge's GPU is one of the best, if not the best.

I can't imagine trying to play a fps on a phone anyway, but Need For Speed shift plays perfectly on mine running the new 2.3.6 and imoseyon 4 kernel/fuju tweaks etc.
I am getting around 2300 in quadrant also.

No more THD Apps??

Well this is a bummer. I upgraded from Atrix to Atrix 2 and just today I realized that I can't install any of the Tegra2 optimized apps obviously cause of the OMAP chip instead of the Tegra2. Well that sucks. We have a nice powerful phone with a beautiful display but stuck with low-res games.
Yea tell me about it
THD is an Addiction like drugs , once you get a taste of it , you are hooked for ever
Once you go Tegra , You can't go back ...
I've an OG Atrix & I love it
When RockStar Games announced Grand Theft Auto III 10th Anniversary for Android & IOS , I got Waaaay toooo excited & happy , simply because the OG Atrix is one of the few phones supported
Give it time every phone that I have Owned that Does Not Have Tegra Chip can get a Hack to Run the games so having Tegra is semi sorta mute point considering the Hack fakes the games into Running on the phone and there really is No degradation either.

It works for lg thrill, and sgs2, should work for Atrix 2.

Anyone confirm chainfire 3d works without a brick?

Only thing that could happen is a freeze or reboot, my write had the atrix 2 and doesn't want it rooted until after her 30 day period or I would try it.

im using chainfire 3d on atrix 2 now. works great with the exception of punt princess, and bang bang racing not working
Use Chainfire 3d and then install the nvidia plugin, then run tegrazone using nvidia plugin.

There is an actual plugin. I'm still hesitant to install chainfire. I'll wait till there is a way to recover from a bad install anyone else tried and succeed?
I installed it. No problems here. Just need nvidia driver.

not sure if its okay to post a link outside xda or to other forum hehe.
Download Chainfire and install, then use this plug-in, you'll have to get the paid version.
I found the pro version. Installed it. Worked. Installed BioBall and Jenga. Works great!! Jenga is so rich with 3D!

Gameloft Games...

Seems none of the HD game loft games are compatible with the Sensation 4G anymore? I can't access Nova 2 or Assassins Creed, etc. They all say incompatible... is it because of the ICS upgrade?

Awww it appears you are right and it isn't just your rom. I know the sensation would be able to handle it in terms of power, I finished nova 2. It must be some optimizations or somrting that our device isn't compatible with e.g mali chipset optimization.
Edit: scratch that previous theory. I just went on the play store site on the nova 2 section. I saw people with desire hd rating the game for the latest version so there must be something monumentally wrong if they think that device can handle it and the sensation can't.

It's because DHD hasn't received ICS Update yet. Most of those games may never be updated for ICS & any device running ICS will not be able to run the game, no matter what specs.

First - they should give GTA VC in correct date. We didn't get it, and now thinking about San Andreas....It's too fast.
I'm not so sure. GTA San Andreas was a huge leap forwards. I have no doubt the current flagship devices will have problems running it, but our beloved Play?
San Andreas is the best gta IMO and as much as I'd love it on my play I highly doubt it will happen maybe on a note 2 ect
But we can only hope!

Gta sa wont run on our xperia play, MAYBE it will in the note 2 and im prety sure that it will run in most of the 2013 devices.
Sent from my Note 2 using xda premium
I dont think it will happen anytime soon and our play will be long out of date by the time it comes out, but i see no reason why they couldnt run the game on the play they had it running on the ps2 not perfectly but good enough to play it so i think it could run on the play, but i dont think it ever will
In my opinion - it should work on Play with Chainfire 3D, minimum resolution amd graphics, and problem with possibly no optimization can be fixed with GameKeyboard. But hope they can make optimize for us, and work on lowest settings. My dream - San Andreas on Play ....

thats not necessarily true, the ps2 only had a 300 mghz processor I think the reason the other ports dont run the best isnt because of the phones hardware but in shortcuts taken in the process of porting them over.

You are quite right about that, and more. if developers tubieran into account the ability of smartphones that can overclock.

Dead Trigger 2

Wow! already another one ? will this work on Xperia PLAY ?
Nothing has been confirmed yet and details are scarce. It could just be a tegra exclusive. I wouldn't think it'd come to our Xperia Play's but it'd be nice if I'm wrong

Possibilities that this isn't optimized, they gave up since shadowgun.

My 2 cents - Sorry to say this but doubt this is coming to Xperia Play (At least stock Gingerbread ones) and defo wont have controls if playable on ICS (If even runs on the hardware).
To be honest any big games this year will be a god send if they are playable on Xperia Play (2nd birthday coming up soon). I don't doubt we will see Xperia Play Optimized games this year but they will be from the indie developers more so then the big boys like EA etc etc.
Don't get me wrong i support the Xperia Play (Much more then others, i have a Xperia Play Fan site ) and still think its the best Mobile/Portable Games Unit available to date. But it wont live forever with the ever growing market and new innovations out there.
I agree, the sun is setting on our little friend, but I have yet to see the Play be ignored by big dev's, suprisingly. Wild Blood, MC4, and several other AAA titles, JUST launched with full Play support. We aren't completely forgotten about yet!

With some extra debloating, I bet it will run on the Xperia Play, It may not run flawless but it should get the job done.
With the XP the glass is always half full.
The graphics is awesomely sick on Project Shield. Remember MFG saying they won't be supporting devices with Adreno 205 in the future after they were "forced" to fix Dead Trigger for Adreno 205 devices? So I'm not really expecting...
80% chance I think it will work on Tegra 3 devices, like my Nexus 7.
like transition from Tegra 2 to 3

I am also optimistic about Dead trigger 2 working on tegra 3 devices. One example why I think so is that in the Tegra zone shadowgun has 2 versions for tegra 2 and 3. Shadow gun came out in the transition period between these 2 chips so they made the people happy if I might say ? Dead trigger is also from madfinger games.. ok it can be seen where I am going with this.
THIS GAME IS GOING TO BE Legen- wait for it - Dary !

Don't want to bother an mod/admin for this kind of things though, so it stays for my embarassment.
May have generated a bother effect with the first post, with this one I'm sure it's doubled..

I have to say I completely agree. Despite the issues with they way they design the games for the PLAY, they are the only big company still consistently supporting the play.
