[Q] Root without pc? - T-Mobile LG G2x

I have no access to a pc and was wondering at the possibility of rooting without on. Any assistance or direction pointing is appreciated

I'm wondering the same thing. I have been trying
to root for a few days now with no luck. I need help also

Nope. You'll need a PC.

For a g2x root you will indeed need a PC. Though for flashing Roms and kernels you don't need one.

Sadly enough, you have to have a pc to flash CWM. But after that you can root, flash ROM's, and flash kernels without the need for a PC. Gotta love the G2x!

Thanks guys. I do love the g2x. I dont know why people hate on it so much

I have a similar problem; but it freezes on step 6 instead
You can get root by simple flashing Dr honk's kg4 kernel via Odin.
Hope this helps!

go to the development section and read up happy flashing.
Random question, why do you have 2.3.3, Kf1 and 2 were the most unstable roms ever built for the gs4g. You need to use kh2. Kh2 is 2.3.4.

Noobs what can u say I'm one too takes trial n err....most imporatant lesson I've learn is not to try to cwm anything away from my screenless laptop that's basically a desktop now. Atleast till you know what ur doin....almost to that point now heh.

Not really sure what you're asking but both of the root methods used for the thunderbolt require the use of a computer. I personally recommend Jcase's method because it gives you insight to the way the tb works and basic adb experience.

Desktop or laptop is fine as long as you have the drivers installed.

Question about reverting back to stock

Hey everyone I'm currently rooted and running cm7 and everything runs amazingly....only issue now is that my USB port only charges my phone and doesn't sync data.
So my question is...what are my options? Is it possible to download the stock program on my SD card and maybe use mobile Odin or anything?
Any ideas will help....I want to re-flash more roms but feel I should have clean flashes by going back to stock.
Thanks in advance.

Oh and try a different ports cables and PCs I have two computers one recognizes phone in Odin the other doesnt
Sent from my SGH-I997 using XDA
Ill look into the link when I get home....as far as I know the port is bad...I've tried it on every micro USB device I have....wont even sync in my father in laws Ford Fusion with sync abilities.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using XDA
I'm not saying the port isn't bad...but this is a common problem in the forum...like I said I still have this problem with my laptop...so when I use Odin I have to use the wife's laptop. Exhaust all possibilities before giving up

Start small and slow, it's really hard to mess things up. The more you do the more you'll learn.

First off, did you NVFlash CWM or install it via ROM Manager application?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Pretty sure he initially installed via rom manager but then flashed with nvflash. If I'm recalling correctly from an earlier thread the op made

Yeah, there's no way. Unless he did use a compy to at least nvflash, then just download a rom using mobile browser onto SD card, grab a kernel, gapps if needed, and flash as usual. Done this several times using only phone, but of course the computer MUST be used for nvflash, otherwise, OP, you'll have nothing but problems.

damn. yes I have the nvflash cwm and I'm pretty positive I have nvflash is there a way to check?

You would know if you've used nvflash because you would have downloaded a small application to your PC, taken out the battery, pressed volume up/down simultaneously, installed APX drivers, etc etc...it's a pretty unforgettable experience. There is no way of checking except remembering whether you went through such a process.

And now your on your own kid...

lol butthurt much? I ask a simple question and Adam trolls me so you block me? I wasn't even talking about you lmfaoooo. and I have a PC therefore I do have nvflash. I'm asking if this can be done without it
Sent from my LG-P999
Adam wasn't trolling you at all. From what i can see everything he said was in order to help you. You can't do anything until you nvflash cwm onto your phone. End of story. And you still haven't made it clear if you used nvflash to install cwm onto your phone from your PC
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
pretty unforgettable experience etc? I said I'm a noob that doesn't mean talk to me like I'm a dumbass. but yes, I used nvflash to flash CWM thanks to your help good sir.
Sent from my LG-P999
I followed the steps for the KDZ updater and that failed is why I'm asking. My PC runs through all the steps flawlessly until the last one where it opens LG driver updater then says version is up to date.

Adam did not mean anything derogatory by his comments, don't misinterpret an experienced user's comment as negative feedback.
Now on to your topic, i do not believe you can upgrade your baseband without a computer. I would use lg's upgrader tool to do that. I don't know much about it as i was originally on 2.3.4 however i know theres a sticky on it somewhere. Check all the g2x forums and their sticky sections. You will definitely need a PC to do it
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
I've checked all the methods posted such as the offline KDZ updater and they failed. most are XP specific and I'm running vista
Sent from my LG-P999
Yeah sorry not trolling, just trying to get an idea where you are with the phone. What exactly are you trying to do? Upgrade to 2.3.4 stock using the LG update tool? I'm thinking you should just download v10f from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048274
The v10f should be the 2.3.4 if I'm not mistaken, and should be flashable from cwm. Make sure to use the instructions provided on that thread. It's a stock nandroid backup, so you have to use the backup/restore menu in cwm. Not sure you have to use a PC (you might be able to do the extraction it talks about in the instructions using androzip, not sure though)...
But what is your ultimate goal by doing this? Cm7 with the right kernel works so much better.
Sent from my LG-P999
Thanks Adam I'm going to save nandroid back up on my PC since i lost mine. Probably a good idea to have a stock 2.3.4 hanging around anyway
