Yes. All apps are located in a data/app/ as an apk files.

no that is incorrect. Those are USER apps. System apps are at /system/app.

he did not specify which type of apps he is looking for. Also, by saying ALL the apps are at /data/app is also incorrect.

Agree, it is incorrect, but I just answered the question

I know GO Launcher would allow the icon to be changed, I'm sure ADW does too. Not sure about renaming though.

How about modifying the APK to remove the annoying settings shortcut for Adobe Flash v11?

You don't need to install. Just follow the directions in the first post of that thread and you will be good to go.

There's a bunch of other (actually all the other stock Samsung apps) in that folder. Feel free to raid what you want. Unlimited bandwidth has its perks.

Sorry to bring back an old topic, but this didn't work for me. I put the downloaded memo.apk file in /system/apps then I changed the permissions to the specified permissions(read for owner, group, others. write for owner). And then I restarted my phone and its nowhere to be found? Have I done something wrong here? Thanks in advance.

Look at the first post in the third link in my signature for directions to push. Also make sure you have "Unknown Sources" checked in Settings - Applications.

I did read through your tutorial and as far as I can tell, I did everything that you said... and I just confirmed that I do/did have Unknown Sources checked. The only big exception to your process is that I just downloaded it straight onto my phone, then used the file manager to move it into /system/apps.
Another question for you, if I wanted to have both the browser that came with my rom, AND the browser from 2.3.6, is that possible? And how would I go about doing that? I tried just changing the filename, but it failed to paste when I did that.
We don't have CM9. Check your phone model number under the battery. This is for the SGH-T959V. And if you mean CM7 - though that was released 4/21 - that is why it won't work. Find an alternative in the playstore.
Same answer for browser.

Oh, sorry. I didn't realize I was under a specific phone section, I have the SGS2 (SGH-I777, AT&T version). I guess I'm incorrect in assuming that the .apk file needed is the same for all versions of the phone? And I wanted this memo back because I had backed up my memo's before flashing, but I am unable to get these memo's back without re-installing the same memo app, since the files were saved as .smm (Samsung memo file). And plus, I liked that memo app better than any others that I have found in the app store thus far.
You will fid your answers in the SGS2 forum.
Sadly, I've been unable to find the memo.apk file in the SGS2 forum...
You can generally download a rom that has the apk you want and extract it, then push to your phone.

Try adding them to /data/app
Instead of /system/app
Odds are the data folder may not be there so u will need to add it to the zip

Remove Stock Apps [rooted phone]

Hi,
this might be a stupid question, but ...
ive successfully rooted my phone and now i want to remove those annoying stock apps. Can anyone tell me how to do this ?
Thank you!
Use apps like System App remover or titanium backup, etc which are available at play store. But make sure not to remove some important apps which may be important for the os. Remove only those you know very well and what it does and you're sure that removing it won't be a problem.
To be honest, they take up very little space and uninstalling some of them can lead to problems. Your best bet is to long press them in your app drawer, drag them to App Info and then disable them (or freeze them in Titanium Backup, same thing). Then they're hidden but you can re-enable them if there are any issues.
yeah worked - thank you!
i only removed the obvious once like drive, g+ etc

Just so you know, you won't be able to install the OTA when it comes with any system app removed. You'll have to replace those apps.
