[Q] Possible to chance baseband? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys, just got a new Nexus S I9023, from this seller
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004USPRM4
But, they said it would be a UMTS 850Mhz frecuency phone, and turned out to be UMTS 900.....
Im familiar with rooting android phones and custom recoveries, but im new with samsung devices, so I ask
Is it possible to change the radio/baseband of my I9023 for a I9020T which is the proper frecuency I need?
Very much thanks in advance fellas.

As far as I know, you can't, sorry :/ I believe this is a hardware setting.
Not 100% sure, though.
Good Luck.

Radio bands are hardware based. You can't change your bands via software.
You can change your baseband radio, but that won't change bands.

Oh well.... just what I hoped for, I hope the amazon vendor knows the mess they did.
Sadly, Its hard for me to return it, since I live in Venezuela. Guess Ill sell it, theres a carrier here that supports 900mhz

Most of those independant sellers on Amazon or eBay are idiots...Never trust them and always check the device well before you buy...Live and learn

[Q] Will it work?

Hello everyone,
I've been searching sometime for an answer but I seem to keep getting conflicting information. Here's the gist: I'm moving to South Korea long term and I have a Samsung Nexus S that was purchased through Koodoo. Works like a sweet machine and I'm loath to give it up. I'm just wondering if it will work when I bring it over instead of forking out money again for another smartphone.
Reasons I think it will work: Nexus S seems to have a wide range of frequencies that it is compatible with, designed to be a world phone, etc.
Reasons I think it might not work: I keep hearing different information on South Korean frequencies from CDMA only to god-knows-what.
Can anyone out here help? It's quite confusing to me. If it won't work then I'll likely try to resell it (still in pristine condition) before leaving instead of bringing it all the way over and it being unusable. However if it does work, again, it would save me buying a new smartphone over there which will probably cost me more in the long run.
Any advice is MUCH appreciated. Thanks!
I'd like to say that it should work fine in S.Korea givin that the i9020 is basically the m200(Korean nexus s). I'm not completely sure though, I can be wrong so don't count me in on it 100%. If it's possible I would contact a Korean GSM telco through email and ask, they'll know if your nexus s is compatible with their bands. I would do that JUST to make sure
What model of Nexus do you have? Do you what bands/frequencies South Korea service providers use?

Difference between EU Z520e & Canadian Z520m

Hi there,
I'm interested in buying a HTC One S and I'm seeing European versions Z520e (S4 Ville) and Canadian Z520m which are on the Rogers network.
I've had a quick look at the Wiki for it and can see that the UMTS versions are different, but are there any other differences I should be aware of, e.g. Hardware or network branding, etc. that people have come across over time ? As for the UMTS, I intend to be in Europe most of the time but will be travelling to New Zealand & the U.S., so which version should I look out for ?
I don't want to pull the trigger on a purchase only to find that I've been stuffed some way or other as it's a lot of money to spend, so I'd appreciate any advice from this forum from people in the know...
Thanks,
Ed
Did you ever find out the difference and get an answer?
I would also like to know this :/

[Q] Purchasing a US N5 to use in the UK

morning guys
I've seen a few threads about buying in the US and using the N5 in different countries and the fact that although you can use it for 3G/GSM, being able to use 4G LTE is a no go due to the bands that are utilised.
Does/Would anyone know if this is changeable due to the radio being used or would it be a hardware matter as to me it would seem abit odd to produce 2 different phones using the same form factor where a piece of software enabling the bands would be more cost efficient. I appreciate that the software etc is probably being looked at by Dev's now but was wondering if anyone with previous knowledge of this would know.
Only reason I ask is as I'm in the US at the moment (the 32Gb works out considerably cheaper than in the UK) and the area I live in (in the UK) hasn't got 4G (and probably won't have for a while), whether or not to purchase one and then wait for a radio change, but if thats not possible I'll have to go with the expensive UK version
thanks for you help
There are two Nexus 5 models, the D820 (for the U.S) & D821 (for the rest of the world. According to this article by Android Central, it seems that there is a physical difference between the radios installed in each model. So I don't think you would have the option of flashing a radio from a D821 on to a D820 and suddenly have access to UK/European LTE bands. I'm no expert though so maybe others could confirm/deny this.
I too would like to know the same thing (hoping to take advantage of relatives in the US )
However reading around a bit I think it's a hardware limitation. They use the same software on the phones, but they enable the different LTE bands built into the hardware.
Pretty sure no amount of flashing radios will enable the different LTE bands...I'd love to be wrong though.
Shame, even after sales tax the saving would have been worth it. Might have to bite the bullet and buy UK price £££££££££

[Radio] D821 phone with wrong LTE bands (USA)

Hi all,
I hope to find a solution to a very strange problem I face. Sometime ago I bought a Nexus 5 D821. Th process was a little bit confusing, as I ordered the phone from eglobal (a chinese merchant), and the phone was delivered from the UK. until I faced my current problems, the phone worked quite nicely, so I cannot tell anything bad yet. However, recently I got a new mobile contract, which supports LTE (Vodafone Germany), but I am not able to connect to any LTE Band here. As it turns out, my phone, which in fact is the D821 Version, does only support the US LTE Bands 25, 26 and 41. I can only suppose that something strange happend during the manufacturing process, maybe this European phone should have been sold on the US market, so they patched it or something like that.
As I'm pretty sure, first you will think, well he got a D820, so whats this guy's problem, so I add some screenshot recently taken, which come from my phone. (I will add the images, once I figure out how it works.)
My Question is, is there any way to get the Europe Bands work on my phone. I found certain threads, discussing how to enable different bands on other phone versions, e.g. enable band 3 on D820, but that is not my use case.
As I understood it correctly, my hardware should support the European bands. If there really is a hardware difference, I guess that my phone neither will work on US LTE bands.
I can only speculate, so is it possible that someone extracts a certain file out of a D821, which I can flash to my phone? I read something about qnx files, which are also used to enable other bands. I think I'm quite skilled to do some further research, if someone can point me into the right direction. E.g. where can I find the configuration of the bands, is this somewhere in /proc filesystem? My phone is rooted and I'm familiar with linux and its commands. I bet it would take ages to gather all the necessary information on my own, unfortunately I do not have the time, so I though it would be beneficial to ask here for some help.
However, I would highly appreciate your comments, suggestions and any kind of help you could provide.
Best regards,

{q}Chinese Phones and LTE

Hi all. So I have been looking a lot at new phones. Based on my budget I found myself looking at Chinese phones(ZTE, Elephone,DooGee). And WoW, There are some sweet ass phones out there and for really fair prices. A lot of which are 4g LTE compatible, but what I noticed is almost none of them are able to handle 4g lte in the US.
So my question is; Can this be changed? Are the missing bands limited by hardware or software? Could a skilled programmer make a Chinese phone work on local 4g networks? Or is it a hardware thing?
Thanks all. cheers
ps; I bought a Zen2 but this still is on my mind.
