restore backup data on different roms - General Questions and Answers

Hi, I'm new to all this, just recently rooted my phone.
Just wanted to know if I can use the data I backed up in one particular rom and then restore it on a different one if I decided to change it.
Thanks
P.s thanks to all the developers for the great job their doing.

if you mean apps then yes of course you can

Make sure not to restore data from system apps or you could get problems and FCs.

[Q] Keeping musics/photos whilst changing custom roms

How do i do it? Sorry I'm a big time newbie with this
You do not have to do anything.
While switching roms, you only wipe your data/cache/davik
Your music/photos will be in your SD
So it will still be available after changing roms.
okay thanks. im guessing it saves my apps and stuff too?
No you have to back them up using a backup program unless you are just updating a rom like the nightlies...then everything should stay...if a brand new rom only photos/downloads/videos etc stay

[Q] system backup and restore for android devices?

Hi Pros! Is there a way to like backup the system and restore in the future? I don't mean backing up apps/ data etc. I mean the system so that I can restore it in the future like the iphone/ipod/ipad. Tks
Yes, you can create a backup image to restore at a later point in time. The catch is that you must be rooted and have a custom recovery installed to do so.
Ok tks!

It's known as a 'nandroid backup' if you're looking for the term to search for.
Really good info to know.

How to backup all your data

Some ROMS require you to wipe /data as well as /system. So how would i backup all my stuff so that I can simply restore all my stuff after the changes. Like lets say im running on weapon G2x right now but I want to change my ROM to PhoenixBlood, but i dont want to lose my GTA 3 saves (true story XD). Would be greatly appreciated. And pleas don't tell me just to wipe dalvik cache and /cache. Im going to be using G2X scrubber before the install. Thanks!

Titanium Backup Pro lets you backup all apps along with their data. You can also backup system data too, but you might run into problems trying to restore Weapon's system data to PB. Basically I just use the default batch backups under "Schedules"

Will the backup work with the free version?

Yes, backups work w/ the free version. But i highly recommend buying the PRO/Donate version. In the PRO version, it features 0-click batch restores, so you won't have to click "install" for every app you restore. Plus, the developer puts a ton of work into this app, and once you buy the PRO version, its yours for life, no matter how many times it updates. Just a suggestion

It works great on the free version. Also you may want to then copy your TI backup to your PC. One time I formatted one too many things including my SD card. Lost everything, which really sucks if you play games.
Okay, thanks for the input, im going to buy the pro version

Yeah titanium backup is the way to go. Run the batch action for user apps system apps wont do ya any good and can cause issues. I would make a Android backup also can't be to careful
Making bad decision's one at a time.

As a recent convert to habitual rom flashing, the pro version of titanium and clockwork mod have been super useful. And I've always believed in rewarding people/companies that produce useful tools

I have a Skyrocket now but have a new one coming. Its a long convoluted story so I won't bore you with it. My question is since I have everything backed up on Titanium backup when I get new phone already rooted is there any way to migrate using Titanium to the new phone? Thanks I'm still pretty new to this.

Okay the only thing you can restore are missing apps and their data. You cannot restore system data between different phones.

installing 4.4 all my apps are not redownloaded

hello
i normally use the codefire 4.3 ROM, installed the karbonkitkat, and one thing that was a bit annoying was the fact that all my apps werent redownloaded? i had to through and individually install them...
anytime i re-rommed using another codefire nightly buid, all my apps were pulled down again...
or is there someting i can force to get all the apps downloaded as normal?
is this by design because its a different android version?
thanks
g
Why don't you just use Titanium Backup to backup your apps? Restoring from TiBu is so much easier than restoring through the Play Store. Even if you don't want to do it that way usually at least you will have a backup for cases like this. In my honest opinion, every single unlocked/rooted phone should have Titanium installed, it's the single most important app for rooted devices.

Hi.
If I don't want to use titanium, can you think of any reason why apps are not coming down post flash? Slimkat works, gummy not....
I have checked backup/restore options during setup...
I don't know. Why don't you want to use Titanium? It'd totally save your butt in situations like this.
