SD storage issues after flashing. - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anytime I flash a kernel or rom or basically anything besides stock gb I have to reboot into recovery and select mount sdcard about 20 times before the SD storage is recognized. Kinda a pain everytime my battery dies.

[Q] Clockworkmod does not find sdcard

Hello guys,
I am trying to update to ICS on my WiFi Xoom MZ604.
Did a full wipe and cache wipe on clockworkmod, but it won't find my sdcard so I can flash it with ICS, instead it will show me the content of /sdcard and won't find anything on any directories, since I wiped it.
What should I do??
Thank you.
I'm assuming you are using the Tiamat recovery. Idk if it supports external SD or not. However, rogue recovery 1.3 supports both SD cards and adds a few other features. Not to mention it looks a lot cleaner.
I would suggest putting the rogue recovery on your SD card and flashing it.

thanks 4 the info
How would I flash it from the SD card?
yeah, still don't know what to do :-/
Plug you Xoom into your computer. Some kernels are sometimes problematic so put you CWM flash file on both the external card and internal flash. These can be distinguished in my computer. Be sure you have the latest drivers or you may have trouble finding your Xoom. http://www.motorola.com/Support/US-...tware_and_Drivers/USB-and-PC-Charging-Drivers
After that you go to install zip from sd and choose accordingly. Might I also recommend rebooting into recovery from the CWM app as I know in my case, I cannot access the recovery menu from the boot screen.

Format emmc

If I go into CWM Touch and in mounts and storage. If I do format emmc, will that format and wipe my internal hard drive? I want to wipe my internal and have a clean drive.

to be honest after reading around recommendation s say not to do it however whenever im looking to get rid of my file i connect it to pc and format internal sd and have no issues so i dont see reason why format emmc with cwm or twrp would be any different

Don't do it! I read around and found that it is ok to do this, however it actually erased your internal 2gb. If you format this and reboot you will be stuck.

I'm on the most recent CWM (sk8's, anyway) and I've done this. I did it last night, actually. Here's what I did:
Copy everything from internal to my PC, then clean up what I didn't need on the PC copy.
Boot into Recovery, go to Mounts & Storage and mount /emmc, then format /emmc 3x (not necessary to do more than once, but just clearing everything off). Plug back into USB then go to Mounts & Storage > Mount USB Storage
Let the drivers install and let everything mount and come up, then copy my cleaned up backup back onto the internal memory, unmount everything unplug and reboot again. Everything worked for me.
I did the same thing for /sdcard (External SD).
I did it last night, phone runs much better and all the junk is off my phone.

[Q] My internal SD Card won't mount/work but system partition and phone work

Sometime in the last few days my internal SD Card just disappeared. It won't mount and I can't interact with it through a file explorer or recovery. The phone still works for everything else though and my external SD mounts fine.
I haven't tried factory resetting through Odin yet though I have done a clean install of my ROM which did not fix it. Anyone know how to fix this?

Going back to stock with Odin fixed it.

Will erasing Internal Storage in TWRP give me any issues with flashing?

I might have to do this because my files are everywhere, and possibly to have a clean start. I'm backing things up, but if I wipe internal storage, will it give me an issue if I try to flash a rom and gapps?
I believe this will delete your recovery too so you will have to push your recovery back on to your phone using adb.

If you wipe data in twrp it wipes the internal card now.
Learned this the hard way that they fixed it. Thankfully I don't keep anything important on their and keep it on my external card.

I accidently wiped my internal storage on my S3 and don't have an SD card. Can I flash a new ROM using my PC? Or am I ****ed?

Yes, you can side load a ROM that's downloaded on your PC, or you can push a ROM to your internal storage with ADB. There's definitely a few guides on how to do it in this forum.

Yeah. Wiping and formatting your /system or any internal directories is lovely for a fresh and stable start... just need to have a ROM on your eternal SD card, haha. I've done this several time, forgetting about having a ROM to flash afterwards. LOL.
Just get an external card, have the ROM and flash it from there. Makes everything way easier!

Internal storage missing with orthus 8

Have had orthus ROM on my phone sense ver 1. Had 7 on there recently no issues, finally ver 8 comes out and now I have internal storage USB mount issues. Its not showing up. Its not were the system files go , but were the programs go. The system storage and SD card show up in the settings/storage and I have no idea how to fix the issue.

I'm not sure I understand your problem. I'm on ver 8 and don't have any problems with the files. They're all where they should be. Are you using a file manager to locate the files?

im saying the internal memory were all the program files, not the system files go... the internal 8gb mount is missing... like it doesnt even show up. i tried to install some programs but cant because its saying theres no SD card installed.. I've formatted 3 times, tired reinstalling the rom 4 times, fixed permissions 4 times, and did factory reset 3 times. did the clean dalvix (spelling) 5 times with no success. i dont know what to do. even tried going back to orthus 7 with no help. even contacted mindmajick and he didnt know.
If I understand, what normally shows up as sdcard on your internal isn't there anymore. Idk either. You could try a different rom or you might have to odin back to stock and start over.

On the skyrocket, you have internal memory (were the system files goes) then you have a internal SD memory, then you have external SD memory, my internal SD is missing.

Flash back to stock and see if it picks it up. If not it's very possible that your memory failed. Warranty with Samsung would be your only option if that's the case.

so flash all the way back to stock and not be rooted?
Yes. If it picks it up from there build back up. If it doesn't your internal is hosed.
Figured it out. When I reboot, I have to take my SD card out let the ROM load then insert it back in. With the card in, the phone wasn't registering the internal SD memory.
