Found an easy way to install Debian, resize the debian.img, and run a desktop on your rooted G1!
1. Installing Debain - has an installer.
For step 6. Do this instead:
Code:
# su
# ./installer.sh
OR
# su ./installer.sh
2. Resize debain.img
3. Installing Desktop
For those who run into problems or errors while installing/downloading tightvncserver and/or LXDE follow these modifications:
1. type:
Code:
cd /etc/apt
nano sources.list
2. add after the first one:
Code:
deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian lenny main contrib non-free
deb-src http://ftp.debian.org/debian lenny main contrib non-free
3. Hold down the trackball and hit o
4. Hit return (to save the new sources.list)
5. Hold the trackball and hit x (to exit nano)
6. Type (enter after each one):
Code:
apt-get update
apt-get install tightvncserver
apt-get install lxde
For Haykuro's builds [Thanks to buttkicker!]:
The procedure is same for 5.0.2H versions as well.
However, some files need to be modified.
I am attaching two sets of files.
Use as needed.
1: debian_v21-sdcard.zip
extract to /sdcard/debian
2: debian_v21-system-sd.zip
extract to /system/sd/debian (ext2 partition)
Replace the files in the original downloaded package with the ones in this post.
If you chose option 2, remember to type
Code:
cd /system/sd/debian
in step 4

Thanks will try this on my G1 verry nice.
does this make a dual boot option? or how does it work?
no it doesn't. you run debian via the terminal emulator, then you run the Desktop app through a VNC viewer (i think, something like that anyway)
also this has been around for ages and doesn't have much use as all of them run stupidly slowly. (that being said, now we can get the processor running faster it might be better)
n1 on the guides though, much more helpful than trawling through countless threads

This is not dual boot. This runs Debian "like" an app running in the android Shell. Calls and everything will still work while in the debian.

Actually it isnt that "laggy" nor slow. Practical for developing code on the go. (you can have the gcc on here )

UPDATED! 6.as root (or su) run the installer like this:
installer.sh
It says unable to chmod bootdeb: operation not permited when i do the 1st
then that means i cant install the last one
Anyhelp guys? i would really appreciate it please im not sure whether i should Downgraid back to JF? Ill miss the pros of Haykuros H build but if i can get debian workn then its worth it
Does anyone have a youtube video running debian with kde or gnome on their g1?

cd /etc/apt
nano sources.list
now add

then hit return (to save the new sources.list)
then hold the trackball and hit x (to exit nano)
then type

apt-get install lxde
That did the trick for me at least.

its actually the seccond part i get an error on chmod 4755 * saying something not permited bla bla bla lol
Hay there. ok i have debian setup and lxde but when i got to the vnc and connect all i get is a gray screen can any body help?
i know this has already been adressed but i cant find the thread again.
Nice howto. Cheers
Hey TF owners,
For anyone looking for a way to mount their Transformer to Linux Mint, I wrote a script to automate the process of configuring your machine to allow you to browse/modify files on the tablet's SSD. This will probably also work on Ubuntu, but I have only so far tested it on Linux Mint.
Download the attached file, and run it.
Edit: Connect your Transformer to your PC before running.
Edit 2: You only need to run this script once - not every time you connect the tablet to your PC.
Hit the thanks button/comment if this worked for you. If not, also comment and I/someone will probably help you out. Also, if anyone tests it on Ubuntu successfully, be sure to comment and let people know.
Note: All configuration files are backed up in the script before changes are made. You can always revert safely.
I'll throw in the ever so popular "use at your own risk" for safe measure.
Cheers.
June 29: Updated script uploaded.
-Cleaner
-Removes an unnecessary comment pushed into fstab in the previous script
-Already executable. Just run it. [Thanks MagnusRagnarok for the idea]
-Packed in 7z from Linux Mint this time as opposed to in zip format from the TF, for [hopefully] universal accessibility.

ok so maybe a stupid question, but does my tf need to be rooted to try this? also if you can create an automated script to install a linux distro you think it would be possible for you to create a script to root?? btw any idea on what actually works? can the tegra 2 run with compiz??

I thin you've misunderstood the intention of the OP.
It was to be able to mount your Transformer under Linux and be able to read/write the files stored on the Transformer's internal storage. Not to actually install a full blown Linux Distro on your Transformer.
Wow, talk about reading before posting.

Acer Mod of the script
I'm trying to edit the file for use with an Acer Iconia. So far everything works but the modifying of the android.rules file. You see, it doesn't exist on my laptop (mint 11) in the directory the script looks at nor is there an android.rules file in lib/udev/rules.d. While I could probably write a rules file and make it work, I'd like to know where it comes from and maybe discover why it does not exist on my system. Anyone have any ideas? Also - rootblock - if I can get this to work would you object to my posting it in the Iconia forum? Thanks!
UPDATE:
Creating the file worked fine. Any reason to edit the script to check if the file exists and create it if it doe not or am I the exception to the rule? i.e. Would most users have it there in the first place?

ubuntu & Asus transformer
If anyone having a problem with mtpfs on ubuntu especially version 10.4 ( segfault problem which prevents from mounting the TF), use newer version of mtpfs in the link below.
http://pkgs.org/download/debian-wheezy/debian-main-i386/mtpfs_0.9-3_i386.deb.html.
1. install the package
ubuntu> sudo dpkg -i mtpfs_0.9-3_i386.deb
2. Then run rootblock script if you did not do it.
just wondering, would this have any effect for the adb connections ? My ubuntu cannot find the transformer from adb but could mount it just find
Try This....
anyone having issues try one of the following extensions.. tar.gz would be my first suggestion for those using ubuntu like myself. i also took the liberty of changing the perms to exe on the script before i compressed all these so now all you need to do is
1.download the extension pack i upped
(find the one that works for you)
2.open file
3.execute
*i also tossed the edited script in the pack for anyone who cannot get it to open.
fyi; ark also worked for me to access the file from the op, while my 7z kept erroring out.

I can access the TF with adb just fine. Just cd to the android-sdk-linux_x86/platform-tools folder containing adb and run:
Code:
./adb devices
or
Code:
./adb shell
if that folder isn't already configured into your path. Works for me anyway.
I've been looking at this and trying to do it with udev instead, since I want the dynamic creation of the folder in /media. Mounting works great, but removing doesn't. So anyone with knowledge of udev rules is more than welcome to give me some hints. Here's the rules so far:
Code:
See below...
The command run when removing works if I enter it as root in a terminal, so it seems to me that it's either not run when removing or it's failing somehow when run from udev. Edit: I've figured out that it's not run at all. Looking into it...
Also, hint for those who follow the manual instructions you could also get the necessary permissions through Users and Groups instead of editing the groups file. You still have to edit /etc/fuse.conf to allow other though.
These are instructions for automatically mounting and unmounting your pad (not keyboard!). This will create (when plugged in and detected) and remove (when unplugged) the Transformer directory under /media, so that the experience is more in line with other USB devices.
For those of you who already have run the script in the first post, you need to do some cleanup. Edit /etc/fstab and /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules and remove the lines which the script created. Which lines in fstab should be straight forward, and in 51-android.rules look for rows that either have no idVendor set or has it set to 0b05. If unsure, post here FIRST before making changes!
This is the content of /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules:
Code:
ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ENV{ID_MODEL}=="MTP", ENV{ID_MODEL_ID}=="4e0f", MODE="0666", RUN+="/bin/bash -c 'mkdir -p /media/Transformer && mtpfs /media/Transformer -o allow_other'"
ACTION=="remove", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ENV{ID_MODEL}=="MTP", ENV{ID_MODEL_ID}=="4e0f", RUN+="/bin/bash -c 'fusermount -u /media/Transformer && rmdir /media/Transformer'"
If you have other Android devices you may or may not have other lines here too. If so, just add these two lines to the end of the file. My Transformer is bought in Sweden so if things don't work for you, maybe there's another idProduct/ID_MODEL_ID out there? Check with lsusb when your pad is plugged in, the vendor (xxxx) and product (yyyy) ID is [xxxx:yyyy] on the line that says ASUSTek Computer Inc. For my pad, the productID/ID_MODEL_ID is 4e0f.
You need to uncomment allow_other in /etc/fuse.conf and add your user to the fuse group (preferably via Users and Groups) apart from adding the above two lines to your 51-android.rules:
Start Users and Groups, choose your user and press Advanced settings. Under the tab User Privileges you should mark Mount user-space filesystems (FUSE).
Open and edit /etc/fuse.conf (see below on how to use nano). Uncomment user_allow_other in the end (remove the # at the beginning of the line).
After this you should reboot your computer. This will have two effects: The udev rules will be reloaded so the changes apply, and your user will have the necessary privileges granted.
Now you can try to plug in your pad and see if it shows up under /media. Give it some time, it takes a while. (Approx. 30 seconds for me.)
A note on editing files from the terminal window
When editing files from the terminal I always use nano. The command is (if opening a file that requires super user rights):
sudo nano [path-to-file]
The editing is straightforward, works just like any other text editor. When you're finished, press Ctrl+X (Exit) and answer the question with Y (if your system is in english that is) if you want to overwrite the earlier file.
Problems?
If you have ADB activated you could try rmbell's udev rules. This removes the match ID_MODEL == MTP and changes the productID to 4e1f. The productID changes depending on what functions are activated, as discussed in this post by ritterkeks. If you want the pad to be mounted with and without ADB activated, you can add all four rules.
If the udev rules doesn't work, run this command in the terminal and see what happens when you plug the pad in:
udevadm monitor --property --udev
Exit with Ctrl+C. Are the values the same as in the udev rules you're using? If not, change accordingly or deactivate some function which has made the productID change.
"unable to mount location" error
I'm getting an error that reads "Unable to mount location"
Then:
fusermount: failed to open /etc/fuse.conf: Permission denied
fusermount: option allow_other only allowed if 'user_allow_other' is set in /etc/fuse.conf
I'm a monkey in a spaceship when it comes to some of this stuff Any idea what I should do (in layman's terms)?
All help appreciated!
I'm not sure if your problem is from the script in the first post or my instructions. But as the message says you need to edit fuse.conf. Also, you need to be a member of the FUSE group.
Open and edit fuse.conf with this command in a terminal:
sudo nano /etc/fuse.conf
Uncomment (remove the #) user_allow_other in the end, exit with Ctrl+X and save with Y.
Start Users and Groups, choose your user and press Advanced settings. Under the tab User Privileges you should mark Mount user-space filesystems (FUSE). I believe that you need to reboot after this change, otherwise the necessary privileges hasn't kicked in.

Current rooted version: 0.8.3.3026
!!!UPDATE 07DEC13!!! -> With SuperSU v1.80!
Here are the rewritable rooted filesystem-files for BlueStacks. Easy if you want to install BlueStacks for development reasons and don't want to go through the trouble of rooting it yourself.
I'll try to keep it updated as they make their updates, but since they don't really announce them, forgive me if I skip some. :silly:
It's also allowed to point me out there's a new version, I'll probably get to it faster that way.
Anyway,
Usage:
Install BlueStacks
Quit Bluestacks completely.
- (By clicking on their tray icon and selecting Quit, or by running the HD-Quit.exe)
Go to your BlueStacks-ProgramData directory
- (In Windows Vista and up it's: x:\ProgramData\BlueStacks)
- (In Windows XP it'll be: x:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BlueStacks)
Unpack and replace Root.fs and initrd.img with the 2 files in this 7zip
Restart BlueStacks
If "Installer" asks root access, give it root access... ;p
Done!

Then, for the noobs that just can't get it working and the limitless downloaders who just don't look at filesize, next, I give you the full 'Android' directory! 7zipped while not running, these files are a certainty that all should work, because they come with /system and /data together and are meant to replace your own. All your own apps and settings (not your backupz to SD) will have gone after doing the following, so it's only recommended when you're planning to start anew anyway or when you just can't get the root into it for some reason... Or maybe you planned ahaed and backed everything up anyway... ;p These files are certain to give you not only SuperSU-root access, but also a Play Store ready to use and as a bonus a full Debian Linux (Jessie) installed underneath it. (This is why it's so much bigger. ;p)
A little info on the linux:
Debian's root password is set to "bluestacks", and it's also the password for the "BlueStacks" user. You can change these without any problems. You can also just enter Debian Linux by opening the installed Terminal. I already preset it to do this. I also used the none standard Terminal app so you can use the normal one for your own purpouses without constantly fiddling and swapping with it's settings. ;p
So, just kill BlueStacks completely and swap the contents of this 7z with the contents of your ProgData-BlueStacks-Android dir (except for the missing sdcard.sparsefs, of course).
It should be located here:
- For XP: x:\documents and settings\all users\application data\BlueStacks\Android
- For Vista, 7, 8,...: x:\programdata\BlueStacks\Android
(x marks the drive your windows is installed on. )
And restart BlueStacks.

And btw, if you want to try it yourself, I always write down my steps taken, so here they are:
Rooting BlueStacks as I did it:
For this you will need the following programs:
BlueStacks (of course)
IOBit Uninstaller
7zip
Notepad++
Portable Ubuntu
I used Windows XP x86, but I added the info for higher windows versions and x64 windows versions as well)
x marks the drive your windows is installed on.
Winkey-R (Run) "%programfiles%\BlueStacks\HD-Quit.exe" (or "%Programfiles(x86)%\BlueStacks\HD-Quit.exe" for x64);
Kill HD-LogRotatorService.exe in Task Manager;
I used IOBit Uninstaller because I hate waiting on the Windows internal one and it does a lot more stuff we need done.
(If you want it and haven't already, get IOBit Uninstaller here!);
Uninstall BlueStacks with IOBit Uninstaller;
Choose to scan for remaining stuff and delete all of the findings;
Uninstall BlueStacks Notification Center
When it asks to keep all data and userfiles, say no;
Delete x:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BlueStacksSetup (or x:\ProgramData\BlueStacksSetup in Vista or higher)
('BlueStacks' dir has been removed by clicking 'yes' in uninstall, if not, remove it as well);
If you can't delete hyperviser.log, you'll have to reboot first, then delete the BlueStacks folder before you'll be able to continue.
Re-install BlueStacks
(If you haven't already, get BlueStacks here!);
Download "busybox-i686" from this site and rename it to "busybox";
Download SuperSU in flash zip format from this site.
Inside this zip is more then just SuperSU. Unzip these files to "c:\pubuntu":
(out of zipped directory "/common"
- "Superuser.apk";
- "install-recovery.sh";
- "99SuperSUDaemon";
(out of zipped directory "/x86"
- "su";
Open Superuser.apk with 7zip, extract the files "/assets/chattr.x86.png" and "/assets/supersu.x86.png to any temporary directory, rename the files to "chattr.arm.png" and "supersu.arm.png", re-insert them (by dragging them back to the still open 7zip) and replace the other 2 png-files.
(If you haven't already, get 7zip here!);
Close 7zip and save;
Open x:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BlueStacks (or x:\ProgramData\BlueStacks in Vista or higher);
Open "initrd.img" with 7zip;
Unpack "initrd" to any temporary dir;
Open "initrd" with Notepad++
(If you haven't already, get Notepad++ here!);
Search for " ro " (including the spaces, not the quotationmarks)
There should be two results, change the first to " rw "
- Hint: It's not the one which starts with "Option: ro (read-only",
It's the one that resembles 'try_mount ro $1 /mnt && [ -e /mnt/$SRC/ramdisk.img ]'. ;P;
Save "initrd" and close Notepad++;
Drag it back into the 7zip application where "initrd.img" is still open and overwrite existing "initrd";
Close 7zip;
Then you'll need Portable Ubuntu
(If you haven't already, get Portable Ubuntu here!);
NOTE: Portable Ubuntu does not work on x64 Windows, so if you're not running an x86 Windows, you'll need to use a Linux box or vm (with shared folders) here instead.
- If you have Windows installed on any other drive than C, do the following, if it's installed in C, skip this:
- Open Ubuntu Portable folder;
- Go to the "config" subfolder;
- Edit the file "portable_ubuntu.conf";
- Under the line: "shared_folder0=c:\" add "shared_folder1=x:\" (where x is still the drive your windows is on);
- Save "portable_ubuntu.conf" and exit Notepad++;
Open Portable Ubuntu;
Open the terminal window once it's fully loaded;
Do the following in the exact order:
Code:
sudo su
(pubuntu's password is '123456')
mkdir /n
mkdir /n/rootfs
mkdir /n/sfs
mkdir /n/img

Shutdown Portable Ubuntu;
Boot BlueStacks;
Install custom launcher like ADW, Go or Apex (Superuser app does not show up in BlueStacks' Launcher);
Install Root Explorer;
Move custom launcher from "/data/app" to "/system/app";
Reboot BlueStacks;
You can now safely remove apps like "Launcher2.apk" and "new_Home.apk" and other original launcher related stuff.

Can you explain the steps to root my version manually instead of downloading a 500mb file, if not possible then can you please provide a mirror since Adrive gives Public File Busy error all the time to me?
Thanks
Edit:
Never mind, ignore it. Got it now. Although it's better if you could provide mirrors for others as Adrive is giving problems. I had to download using a premium downloader.

Still want instructions, then?
Cause I wrote down the steps I took, so I could easily paste them here (and adapt them a little for others to read, of course. ).

Sure go ahead if you already wrote them down. It will be useful since it's a separate thread then your other post where you put these download links. The only thing messing up my plans right now is to download that portable linux for 1+gb file so for now I have downloaded your files and they work great, I will make them manually next time when there will be a new bluestack update.
Thanks

New Version
Version 0.8.2.3018 is out.
I accepted the update & Root Checker Pro says I still have root.
SuperSU updated
SuperSU just updated a few hours ago. Problems to update the apk. Could someone please update Root.fs and initrd.img with the new superSU apk.
Thank you
0.8.2.3018 updates and root is still there except the root apk is gone as the Root.fs has been replaced.

If possible could the root files be compressed before theyre uploaded by any chance in .7z? it would half the download size from 500MB to around 256MB, im sure the many with sucky internet speeds would appreciate it >.<
Hope you enjoyed le trip ~

Why? What's so new about it? This one works and was already unpacked to me. (Lazyness ftw. ;p) Also, it's still the last one available on Google Play Store, since it doesn't want to update, so I'm guessing that it's probably not that much of an update. (Haven't checked though. )
And I don't see why you wouldn't be able to upgrade it yourself... Just install the new SuperSU (replace other in system/app or install in data and don't touch system/app, your choice.
I'll see what I can do next release.
Grtz,

1.75 has actually been available on Google Play Store since November 20, 2013 and these are the changes:
What's New
- Fixed OTA survival 4.3 --> 4.4
- Fixed unresponsive tabs on 2.x devices
- Fixed white flicker when using dark theme
- Fixed issue with language resetting on some firmwares
- Fixed upgrading from CWM SU to SuperSU on 4.3+ without reboot
- Added mgyun root (vroot) uninstall procedure
- Added xxhdpi and xxxhdpi icons (if available)
- Stop touching .has_su_daemon
- Several dozen security hardening commits (mini-audit by Kevin Cernekee)
- Fixed issues with sd-ext based ROMs
- Updated language files
Except from reading the thread, 1.75 still has problems with some devices as some people have lost root trying to upgrade according to the xda thread so better wait for a stable version before replacing it. 1.69 is fine as long as swiping works across the tabs and the request for su prompt comes up as that was what people were complaining about in 1.69.
I'll test to see if 1.75 works by upgrading once I finish downloading since installing rhe apk is the easy part, it's updating the su binary that is always the problem with SuperSU.

Ok, strange, I checked yesterday on BlueStacks, right before posting my answer (to make sure). I opened Play Store on it, looked up SuperSU (had to go through the whole 1-click setup again, even ) and it said: Open and Uninstall... No update.
I'll admit I did wanted it not to be, so I had a proper excuse next to me being lazy, but I swear to you, I checked and there wasn't. Not on my BlueStacks, anyway. Haven't checked my phone, since there was no version numbering to be found in their "What's New", so I had no way to check it there without first installing it.

This was indeed what it said when I checked for the update on BlueStacks,... But it did not give me the Update button, just the Open button, so I expected it to have been the 1.69 release adding those stuff... (I don't really follow SuperSU, so for as far I knew, it could have been and would've easily be explained by the '.su' file and the 'otasurvival' zip in 1.69... ;p)

You think SuperSU won't be able to update, when it's already the main superuser app? I understand the problems when changing with apps from other users you have no control over, but not over one's own stuff...
Why is this SuperSU app so wanted anyway? It seems to have more bugs than any other... And 99% of the time you're just going to push "Allow" anyway...
Grtz,

The version numbering is always under the description in Google Play Store. I downloaded the Root.fs and initrd.img and just tried to update to SuperSU 1.75 and just as I had suspected, installation of the su binary failed. CWM's Superuser installs but the su binary on that one seems to be dead as it doesn't prompt and one can't even su in terminal mode with all versions released after the CWM Superuser you included in the earlier BS Root.fs.
As for SuperSU, here is the comparison and I think both CWM and SuperSU are good, it's just the original Superuser that sucks...
Superuser, the original by chainsdd, is open source, and has been used the longest. The problem is that it has been outdated and it required work to get it on 4.2
SuperSU is a closed source app from chainfire, a well known developer. Its got a ton of options and its well made. This one was made because of the issues in the original superuser app. Lots of people personally use this one.
Superuser by koush was designed to make a working superuser app, that was open source. It comes built into the settings menu of AOKP and Cyanogenmod.

Always wondered where that info was... It somehow feels like it should have a more obvious place. And although this seems to be the official place for it, indeed, it's often mentioned in What's New too,... Anyway, I know now, and I can clearly see version 1.75, but then I wonder why I didn't get the Update button in BlueStacks? Because that's the main thing I took as evidence.

Yeah, I was along with everybody else to change and change it every ROM again,... But then CM began to build in theirs (as did AOKP), and it didn't actually bother me, had the same functionality (notification per app settings and such...) and has a much nice clear popup, imho, where as SuperSU has that small white one which still looks Gingerbreadlike. ;p So, again, in my eyes as I did before, I moved on. Some people tend to get stuck with their first change, they never change again, that's why I ask why SuperSU would be better, if it's such a mess even updating it... ;p As I remember CWM's su updated just fine, even on BlueStacks... Dunno if it could handle SuperSu, though, but if it didn't I'd expect it to be more SuperSU's fault than CMWsu's. ;p

And you are using my Root.fs ánd my initrd.img? Because they work fine here, though, and from recent reply's I think I can confirm more people having it working. :/ Try uninstalling BlueStacks completely, removing everything (like in the beginning of my tutorial for rooting BS in the OP), rebooting, and reinstalling BS with a clean slate. All su binaries and the sudaemon should be pre-installed on it. :/ I forgot to make a symlink to /system/bin this time, but apparently it wasn't needed and the /system/xbin/su should do. This can be done later (with root of course) by going to /system/bin with the android terminal and typing:
Code:
su
ln -s ../xbin/su
Oh, right, and do check if SuperSU doesn't get updated automatically by your Play Store or anything. It should stay v1.69, because it fails at updating it's own su binaries for some reason...
Can anyone else confirm the last release has working root, though, just to be sure? Because they could always have changed something to make rooting harder, disabling the 'just replace Root.fs' possibility with some build in checker. I highly doubt that's the case, though.
Anyway, keep me updated. ;p

HOW DO U DOWNLOAD YOUTUBE VIDEOS ????
MOST OF THE ANSWERS ARE THIRD PARTY APPS LIKE TUBEMATE,VIDMATE.ETC.
BUT IN THIS GUIDE I WILL TELL YOU HOW TO DOWNLOAD THIS VIDEOS WITH TERMINAL EMULATOR.(ANDROIDS INBUILT CHARM)
AND YES IT DOES NOT REQUIRE ANY ROOT ACCESS.
USING THIS TRICK YOU CAN DOWNLOD VIDEOS FROM OTHERS SITES WHICH SUPPORTS YOUTUBE –DL (NEARLY 1200 SITES)
LIST OF SUPPORTED SITES:- https://rg3.github.io/youtube-dl/supportedsites.html
STEP 1 – DOWNLOAD TERMUX (a terminal emulator app)APP FROM PLAYSTORE(size<1.5mb) : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.termux-
GIVE IT STORAGE PERMISSION.YOU CAN DO IT BY GOGING TO SETTINGS>>APPS>>TERMUX>>PERMISSIONS>>ENABLE STORAGE ACCESS
STEP 2- OPEN TERMUX APP THEN TYPE CLEAR AND HIT ENTER TO CLEAR THE SCREEN.
THEN TYPE ALL THESE FOLLOWING COMMANDS ONE BY ONE OR DOWNLOAD THE COMMANDS.TXT HERE:-

[replace the height=480 with 360, 720 or 1080, etc to change resolution]
9) Very important :- [To Save "Volume-down" + O; then press Enter, and then exit nano with "Vol-down" + X]
10) mkdir ~/bin
cd ~/bin
nano termux-url-opener
11) youtube-dl $1
12) Very important :- [To Save "Volume-down" + O; then press Enter, and then exit nano with "Vol-down" + X]
That’s it now you are good to go.
Now to download any youtube videos .go to youtube choose share option then choose termux option.thats it now your videos will be downloaded.ALSO TO DWONLOAD FROM OTHER SITES USE THIS SHARE OPTION THEN TERMUX. IHAVE NOT TESTED IN OTHERS SITE SO PLZ REPORT.
STILL CONFUSED I HAVE CREATED A VIDEO JUST LOOK AT THIS.HERE IT IS:- https://youtu.be/RUlgO5i4i8I
wow, im gonna try this afterwards,.. thanks
This works just fine on the YouTube app. And if you hit the share button, then the elipses button on a web browser, it redirects me to the same video on the YouTube app, which is fine. You just have to hit the share button once more and choose the Termux option, afterwards.
Thanks for this. Guess I don't need arkTube anymore.
interesting .. gonna try this thanks...
Tried it, works.
Instructions are very well laid out, had no problems following them, but some people just can't read so I'd expect "didn't work" comments as well.
Compared to the GUI 3rd party apps this offers less features (obviously), but seems more robust - one click starts it, and Termux supports multiple parallel sessions.
Overall if you want a no-nonsense approach, this is the way to go. For beginners or other use cases I'd still recommend an app.
Great
i tried it and yes it's work.

When I open my file explorer (ES File Explorer) and go to /data, it's empty. There's no data/com.termux/files/home/storage/shared/Youtube/
But if I open termux app, I can cd into the YouTube folder.
Also, if I download a video, it doesn't save to the YouTube folder, but to the home folder. Either way, I can't access the video thru a video app. I'll see if I can copy it to external storage.
Just did. Cannot copy to external storage. Permission denied.
Help please!
