sorry guys but i made an "uh oh" and need help please! i had Virtuous Unity 1.31.0 & was attempting to flash the beta version. i had blue magic theme on my rom as well. Here are the exact steps i took: downloaded rom, put phone in clockwork recovery, wiped dalvik, wiped cache, wiped data, mounted system, flashed the zip & rebooted. Now i'm looped in the "blue magic" boot animation. what'd i do wrong & can it be fixed. i backed everything up too. i can get it into HBOOT screen by pressing power & down on volume key but am not able to scroll to any of the options. after a cple seconds it automatically selects HBOOT & asks if i want to install update from sd? i assume it's the gingrbread update but i've selected "no" every time so i could talk to someone first. right noe i'm on a publis cpu & it won't allow me to access the phone internals. i need admin passcode. i haven't messed much with playing with my phone thru a cpu so i'm not quite sure i'm even doing it right. sorry for my cpu lack of knowledge but i've adapted to android pretty well. Help please & thank u in advance
problem is that you have a PD98IMG.zip file on your sdcard....
pull the sdcard, boot into HBOOT, select recovery, then pop in the sdcard when you get to recovery

Yup. If you happen to have a PD98IMG.zip on your SD, bootloader will try to flash it everytime and you won't be able to access Recovery. Either pull the SD card until after you've selected Recovery like pirateghost suggested, or find a card reader/other device to read your card to delete PD98IMG.zip
Ok sweet. That got me back to clockwork, slipped the card back in once in recovery, clicked reboot and it still looped. It did say I had that file so I'm guessing I have to find a card reader and delete the file maually now or did I do something wrong?
Thanks so much for ur reply and it looks like I'm going to have to find a card reader and do it manually cuz it still loops. Thank u so much!
Just go in recovery rewipe and flash the beta rom only no themes yet let it reboot it should load right up I think the theme messed you up the bata rom is based I'm 2.3.4 so 2.3.3 themes wont work
sent from my unity loaded inspire 4G
Ok, did all that but Noticed before I rebooted that at the bottom where it shows the processes it's going thru, it says installation aborted. Says E:Can't open/Sd card/ download etc...2.33.0 BETA.zip....(bad). Do I still reboot or attempt to flash again?
Try going into mounts option in recovery and mount the external sd card.
Not giving option to mount. Only unmount so I guess I unmount and try to remount?
Try that and see if it works.
Aborted again. I'm getting worried friend
Still aborted. I'm getting worried friend
Don't worry. It will work out fine. Let me check something and I will reply momentarily.
Thank u so much for helping. I'm wishing I could pay u at this point
Don't worry. Turn off phone. Check to make sure sd card is properly inserted. Power phone back up and boot into recovery. Select install zip and see if you are able to view your files.
Well I can go to install the zip but still aborts
Try going to backup and restore and select restore. Select the backup you said you made and try restoring to your backup. You may have a bad download of the beta rom. Let me know if you can restore. Wipe first.
What happens If I scroll down to that PD98IMG.zip u were talkin bout. I see it on the zip file list...
You don't want to use that. That type of file can only be used in Hboot. It seems like you can see what is on your sd card so it is mounted. The rom file you were trying to flash may be corrupted. Unless you can get another rom on your sd card I would say restore to your backup until you can get another rom on your card and also delete that PD98IMG file.
if it says corrupted that means that your ROM file is corrupted or didnt fully downloaded.
1.Turn Off Phone
2.Take out SD Card
3.Vol+Power to Hboot
4.You will be at recovery mode.
5.Insert Sd Card back in
6.go to Mount
7.Mount your SD CARD(make sure USB is plugged in the computer)
8.Wait a little, your computer will have pop-up, if not go to My computer and click on your Sd Card.
9.Drag in a new fully downloaded rom into it.
10.Unmount the Sd Card
11.Happy Flashing!
sorry if this does not work, tried my best to help. This worked on me, so It should work for you as well.
another method is, if you got a Card Reader(micro chip goes in side a big chip) then put your ROM in their and delete the PD19 blah file, and skip steps 6 to 10
Hi guys, i'm in desperate need of your help. i think my precious o3d might have been screwed.
first let me tell you what i did. as you know the internal sd card of o3d is 5gb or so and it fills up very quickly. this internal sd card is mounted as /sdcard. i have a class 10 16gb micro sd card and when i insert it, its automatically mounted as /sdcard/_ExternalSD. The applications or games, especially the ones that have external data folders which are like 1gb in size insists to be installed on /sdcard. You can't move those data folders to _ExternalSD, because then the apps doesn't work.
Then i came across this topic:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1189701
As you can see that was exactly what i needed. I had CWM 5.0.2.0 installed so i downloaded the first .zip then copied all of the files and folders excluding the _ExternalSD folder to the external sd card then rebooted into recovery. From there i flashed the zip and rebooted again. phone booted up and all was ok and it worked. now the phone sees the external sd card as the internal one and the internal sd card was mounted as /sdcard/_ExternalSD. I then formatted the internal sd card from the settings menu because i already copied all of the stuff there to the external card. It worked fine and the internal card is formatted. After that i decided to get a nandroid backup so i opened the rom toolbox program. From the menus i selected the backup option, gave it a name, clicked ok. the phone rebooted into cwm recovery screen but nothing happened. then i noticed something was not right because there was some error lines under the cwm menus saying "E:can't mount CACHE:recovery/command" etc. Then i selected the reboot phone option but the phone rebooted right back into the CWM recovery again!! At that point i knew that i was @#?^ed.
Anyways i researched a lot and came across this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1156549
i did exactly what he said and it worked, i mean it flashed nicely. then i rebooted the phone but it booted into the recovery again!!! But this time the CWM recovery was gone and i believe this is the stock recovery screen. I can browse the menu of it and make selections but the phone boots into the recovery every time it reboots.
The recovery screen looks like this:
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7010/6654644033_b616bc0635_z.jpg
Then i flashed the phone to the latest official firmware V21A_00, it flashed nicely but it still boots right into the recovery everytime.
Then i installed the Android SDK and tried to push the original vold.fstab file to the system using the adb command line tool but it doesn't see the phone. I think adb works only when the system boots up normally, not in the recovery mode.
I don't know if there's a way to install the CWM from the stock recovery somehow. If you know how, please tell. The CWM has more options.
I don't know what else i can do. It started to look ridiculous. If there are any experts cool enough to help please do so. I'll be waiting. Thank you...
Edit:
I also tried this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1244490
I starts just fine but get's stuck on the "RESET" command, after a while it gives "DOWNLOAD FAIL!" error. I think the phone is supposed to restart automatically but it doesn't. Manually resetting the phone doesn't work either.
I'm about to pull my hair out...
Edit 2:
I also posted on the official LG Mobile forum here:
http://www.lgforum.com/forum/boards...d-goes-into-recovery-mode-every-time-it-boots
Fingers crossed
Quite a post!
From all your post there is no mention that you formated and did a factory reset after 21a flash.
Can you please try that if you haven't?

thank you for the reply!
i tried all 4 wipe options on the recovery screen then rebooted. it's the same, i'm back at the good old recovery again
Did you try with the external sd card out?
This is strange, usually a kdz flash coupled with a format fixes the problem.
Some how it still can't find the internal SD card.
I don't have further recommendations. Sorry

Hopefully someone else on this forum can suggest a way for you to unbrick.
your problem is although you have reset your phone, somehow it can't find a partition to boot from.
or
somehow the KDZ flashing is not totally successful.
good luck
If only there could be a way to be able to use the adb command from the Android SDK then i might be able to restore the vold.fstab file to its original, if the problem is that at all. Maybe then it'll work. To be able to flash the CWM Recovery again somehow might be a good thing too because it has more options like flashing .zip format roms but i have no idea how. Does anyone know if the stock recovery can flash some specifically named file to the system, does it have that kind of functionality? I'm desperate, please share your thoughts.
.............anyone?
I am sorry to say that but there is no solution for this problem yet. I have done the exact thing that you do and tried every single solution with no luck. The only way is to send it to lg repair service. My solution was to replace the mainboard.
Dostum gecmis olsun malesef tek cozum yolu anakarti degistirmek. Uzaman sayilirim android konusunda bosuna ugrasmayasin diye soyluyorum. LG servisi bile anca anakarti degistirerek cozum sunabildi. Temel problem internal karti formatlamis olman. Partititon table'i bozuyor bu islem malesef ve bu yuzden hicbir yontem ise yaramiyor.
Gecmis olsun tekrar...
so you say that the main problem was to format the internal sd card? well if formatting the internal sd card bricks the phone then why the hell is there an option to format it in the settings menu?
well if you didn't apply the swap fix, it wouldn't be a problem to format. When you swap the sd cards and format, it is the problem.

so you did exactly the same thing as me right? i mean you applied the swap fix then formatted the internal sd?
replacing the motherboard to fix this seems to be a bit nonsense to me to be honest. what does the partition table have anything to do with the motherboard?
if only there would be a .kdz format custom rom which factory resets the internal sd card during the flash process and maybe fixes the bootloader somehow, that might be the solution.
yes i did the same and the only solution was to replace the motherboard. we need a sowftware that can reach to the emmc in low-level. like omap flasher. but we also need the correct drivers which doesn't exist yet.

i don't know what the emmc is, i need to do research on that. but i still think that replacing the motherboard won't solve this issue because it seems non relevant to me. i messed up with the vold.fstab file. but after that it worked fine. i mean the internal and external cards swapped just fine. only after i decided to make a nandroid backup using rom toolbox all hell broke loose. i plan to wait a couple of days before turning the phone to LG service. i believe someone will come up with an idea.

Well, there´s a new recovery for the O3D, v5.0.2.7 (I got it with ROM Manager).
It fixes 2 bugs of the previous (5.0.2.0) version: now the USB mass storage option in the mounts menu works (mount external SDCARD), and we can use ADB while in recovery. That way we can fix stuff in the phone filesystem while in recovery: we can now use ADB shell, or ADB push to replace files.
The problem is that I don´t know how to flash it to the phone while in the stock recovery. If someone can guide me on creating a signed ZIP containing this new recovery, flashable in the stock recovery, I would be glad to do that and post it here. I think these phones of you guys can be fixed using this method!

Great news! But now i need to find a way to install the new CWM. Just as you said i believe what i need is to find or make a .kdz update which includes this new CWM.
What do you think?
I know this is possible, at least for the Galaxy Ace: I have a ZIP file for this device with a custom recovery image, flashable in stock recovery!
To make one for the Optimus 3D, I need to know the following:
- How can I obtain the .IMG of the new recovery? I have found some temp files in clockworkmod folder in my sdcard. The creation date of one of them matches the exact moment I upgraded my recovery, and the file size also matches a recovery image: 5.54MB. Is it the recovery image? Can I just rename it to recovery.img? How can I extract it to ensure it´s ok?
- After I get the recovery image, I can use the Galaxy Ace ZIP as the base to build the O3D zip file. Any help on what do I have to change to make it work correctly?
I also tried this:

I'm about to pull my hair out...
Edit: I'm 99% sure that this isn't a hardware related problem. And LG's software not being able to turn the phone to stock is totally #$%!
On some "unbrick your optimus 3d" threads i came across this image:
http://attachments.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=667470&d=1311752328
i tried all methods around here but not once i came across a screen like it. weird...
well i give up guys. so much technical going on and no one seems to understand this device enough. i'll turn it to the LG Repair Service today. Thank you everyone for your help...
So ive been at this for 2 days. I finally got the micro sd card with both files to install rom but in clockworkmod recovery i cant mount sd card nor format or anything. I can mount and unmount in the normal settings of the device and see it in root explorer but thats it. Its formatted to fat32. also on rom manager where it says to install from sdcard it only takes u to the internal sdcard which makes no sense because i was told u cant install a rom from the internal sdcard.
PS. This is my first Android Device!!!!
yeah
I am in the exact same situation. I am rooted on 4.0.3 and I wanted to install 4.0.4 or one of the custom ROM's. This is not my first android device but I am at a loss. I can not enter fastboot, can't load anything from the SD card in CWM recovery (get the message E:Can't mount /sdcard/), can not connect via ADB on my PC.
I feel that I have enough skill to do all of this because I have done it in the past. My ADB works fine with my Galaxy Nexus (just updated that and installed new kernel) so I don't know what is causing the problem. I have tried different SD cards(3) as well and nothing.
The biggest problem is I can not get into fastboot and SBF if I wanted to. I have been having issues with drivers even though I have installed motohelper like 6 million times.
I have tried factory resets and wipes and everything. I tried to do the factory update that is being pushed to me and I get an error. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry if this is stealing your thread but I think we are having the same problems.
check out my thread at xoomforums:

If you are using CWM recovery from Rom Manager (not recommended for Xoom) it does only read your internal flash memory (called sdcard) but not your external microsd card (called external1???). So you need to flash a different custom recovery using adb/fastboot to flash a recovery.image file or, if you can flash through cwm (from internal sdcard) a recovery.zip file (either EOS or Rogue, depending on the ROM you will flash afterwards), Actually, any custom recovery is supposed to work for any rom, but in reality Eos works best for Eos and Rogue works best for the CM9 Kang.
Please, just remember, never flash a .zip file through fastboot, only an .image file!
+1 i agree with the above, fixed this last night. I download a couple recovery images, which were blank for some reason, so i downloaded the zips and extracted the recovery image folder. Then opened the command window from the folder with the recovery image and flashed it with fastboot. Now it works perfect.

Thanks for saving the last half of my hair which I hadn't pulled out yet.
Got the backup on SD ONLY after flashing the EOS recovery 1.5.0 (i tried the latest to begin with, did not work, made it worse flashing recovery from ROM Mgr)

I still cannot boot in recovery using power+volUP...i have to get at least adb running. Any suggestion would be golden.

This is my first attempt at unlocking and rooting. So far I did manage to get unlocked. Now I am stuck at: Can't mount/sdcard . . . . .
I have been following the thread: [HOW] Rookie Rooting, Flashing And UnRooting Under One Roof
It seems to be layed out quite well and well, I'd never have gotten this far if it weren't for following those directions. I'm not discouraged because I know this is just a stumbling block. I can't wait to kill the bloatware and see if I can O/C this beast just a little.
Good luck to the folks who posted above me. I will post my results here.
Mike P.
I think the solution is much more simple...
The recovery uses normally e: an external sd card , you just trying by d: internal sd card , so take another sd card and dun let it be internal sd card...
And the recovery back on working with you
Hi!
I'm on SGS2 with Resurrection Remix v2.0 w/ Siyah v 3.2.6+ kernel.
My version of CWM is 4.0.1.5.
For some reason, I can't longer flash anything from CWM.
Whenever I reboot into CWM and choose the "choose zip from sdcard", I only get this error message: "E: Can't mount /sdcard". I don't have any external SD card on my phone, I have always used this method.
I've already tried to wipe cache without luck. If I choose "mount /sdcard", I only get "Error mounting /sdcard!" (This however, may be because it's referring to any external sdcard?)
I appreciate any answers!

So, when you put the .zip on your 'sdcard', are you putting it on the internal memory, or the external SD card?
And yep you're right - it's looking for an extsdcard to 'mount'.

Have you tried sticking the .zip on an external SD, and seeing if it shows up that way just to confirm? I remember having a similar issue on the Infuse a while back now, and I had to start flashing off the internal memory.
I think a re-install of CWM fixed things up, but that was a high-Development time, and we were getting new versions every day
Try the external thing, I reckon that's the problem. Might require an update to CWM in order to restore functionality. Alternatively, you may like to look into a replacement such as 4EXT or TWRP.
I found this kernel by Chainfire, which adds root and SU, and also CWM. You can flash it through ODIN as normal, very detailed instructions in there.
I also found this article, which may shed some light on the issue for you?
I cannot believe how hard it is to find a Recovery in the GS2 section. What a nightmare!

Hi juzz86!
Thank you for your response!
I do not have an external sd-card to try atm. I will look into the CWM alternatives if this does not work.
I found out that I had replaced my stock recovery with the CWM touch version, and this version allows me to use the "internal sd card" menu. This however, only works when shutting down my phone, and holding volume up+power+home. When using the fast option "reboot into recovery" from my phone, I still get the ordinary CWM - and I'm facing the same problem over again.
When trying to "mount /sdcard" in CWM, I get a standard "failed to mount" message
After looking into the Directory-bind app, I see that all my data is stored in my /sdcard folder, and nothing in the /sdcard/external_sd folder, so I followed the guide just for fun (since it doesn't really describe my problem), but it didn't work, and I still can't mount my /sdcard folder in CWM.
I'm going to see over the forums about the mount sdcard error in the forums, and try the kernel as suggested if nothing else works BB!
EDIT: I see that in newer versions of CWM, there should be an option for installing a zip from the internal sd card. My question is: Is it possible for me to update my version of CWM, while using the same kernel? I can't do this in ROM Manager.
Should be, yes. You'll probably need to use Fastboot or ODIN to flash it, so.e devices get zips but I'm unfamiliar with the GS2 Development.
Your best bet will be to find the CWM thread in one of the GS2 forums, and follow the instructions in there.
I wasn't aware that flashing a recovery through ROM Manager changed your kernel?

It didn't. My answer was a bit messy, sorry. I understand that you can flash a new kernel through odin or CWM, and therefore get a new version of CWM bundled - like the customized versions (like the link you provided). I only want to update my version of CWM, but stay on the same kernel as before. What Rom Manager is able to do, is updating your version of CWM (the official ones).
If I'm mistaking, please let me know.
No, that's right you can update CWM by flashing a kernel, but you can also find a standalone recovery.img, sometimes a flashable zip, or you can use ROM Manager. All three of these methods won't touch your kernel
I got the oposite problem...
Hi all i am new .. but basicaly my issue is:
I'm trying to install a custom ROM on my rooted Galaxy SIII I19300.
I've placed the rom inside an external sdcard, entered Recovery mode (clockworkmod CMW-based Recovery) and clicked "install zip from sdcard" then "choose zip from sdcard", after that the console presented me with an error "E:Can't mount /sdcard/".
I've tried to select "mount /sdcard" in the mounts menu and it errors:
"Error mounting /sdcard!"
The sdcard works fine and I'm able to read/write from/to it without any issues in GSIII and in others cellphones..
The SDCARD got 2 gb and its formated in FAT32.
Any one help plz?
Format your sd card !
respected sir,
format your SD card , since cwm, twrp, and other recovery mods require mostly 'FAT32' format.
so, please take a bkp and format it to go ahead without probs!
Hi all.
I've been searching the net for hours for a solution to this issue, to no avail.
I have an Asus Slider SL101 that I wanted to upgrade to KatKiss so here's what I've done...
- Root successfully (1-click transformer root 1.1 from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1689193)
- Installed CWM Recovery (6.0.1.3) successfully (also using above)
- put all the relevant zips (katkiss, gapps, slider comp pack) on the sd card ready for flash
- booted into recovery...
Next I went to wipe data/factory reset... but it froze so I did a hard boot and tried again: same thing.
So I went to install the rom zip from sdcard and I get error message 'can't mount /sdcard/'
Also getting 'error mounting /data' and 'unknown volume for path [/sdcard/].
I can't get back to my original Android settings at all, I'm assuming it's all gone or something. Maybe the reset did work.
The big issue is I can't access the damn zip files on the sd card to install a rom.
I have these ADB tools (with adb and all these random executables and various files scattered about) but if I can't start Android then I can't use them can I?
It's a bit of a mess really. I'm thinking if I can just get the slider to mount the sd card then I can install the rom and I should be back in.
I'm not sure how to go back to stock recovery (whatever that means) so if you advise that I should 'flash' then I'm afraid I'm going to need some clear instruction.
Stupidly, I forgot to do a backup, which is probably half the reason I'm here, although that still doesn't account for the sdcard error...
Anyway, please help a moron out?

Ive got the same problem. CWM cant mount the sd card. Ive been searching for days, but all the links in any solution i did find are outdated. I did read somewhere that it means that the CWM version isnt compitable with the Sl101. I can't find any other/older versions then the Manager i downloaded from Playstore. I want to flash the Twrp Recovery and then the kisskat ROM, compability pack.. Gapps
.etc but i cant seem to get any of that done if CWM can't mount the damn sdcard. (Sorry i got a bit frustrated over this). Ive never rooted anything before so im new to this. Did anyone find a solution for this? Or has an link to some other version of CWM that is compitable to mount the sdcard? Thank you very much in advance)
Probably not what you wanna hear, but I didn't find a solution and had to throw my beloved slider away!
