[Q] Official firmware for Canada? US or WW? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My transformer is not updating over the air. My friend rooted my device and put on CWM but now I am trying to restore it to official firmware. I followed a guide and unrooted my device and installed the official recovery. My build number now is HRI66.US_epad-8.2.3.13-20110511 and firmware is only 3.0.1. When I select system update it tells me there are no updates available for my device. So I am going to manually updated it by downloading the firmware from the ASUS website. I was wondering though if in Canada do we use the US firmware or the WW firmware? Which one do I download?

not sure what to tell ya bud i didn't root and my tf101 is running 3.2.1 asus is pretty good about doing ww updates but you might have to call up asus to confirm which update to download and btw i am in canada as well and the updates were all ota

I too am in Canada and was wondering if the TF101's originally came with US or WW firmwares?
I want to flash back to stock before upgrade to ICS.

[Q] How to update a rooted 3.1 to 3.2

Dear friends,
I just rooted and installed the cw recovery in my newly bought ASUS TF. The current version is 8.4.4.11, 3.1. Then how can I update my machine to V8.6.5.9, 3.2 without wipe?
Thank you very much!
Depending on which rooting method you used, if you read the root thread, it will advise you to update to the latest firmware for your model before rooting. You won't be able to update to the latest firmware after rooting and installing cwm recovery because the update will fail. You will need to return back to full unrooted stock with no cwm recovery, then update to the latest firmware, then reroot. PM me for instructions on how to return to stock.

I have seen this a few times, you do not have to return to stock to update your firmware. A couple of nice people have made the update compatible with CWM and you just have to put the zip on your SD card and install it from CWM. Here's the links to go to .9 and .13 Cheers.

After looking at what firmware you are at, I'm not sure if there are zip updates that go back that far, but you can certainly search to see...Cheers.

But mine is 8.4.4.11, 3.1 rather than 8.6.5.9, 3.2....
Install a new custom rom

link for the 8.6.5.19 WW?

I'm searching for a link for 8.6.5.19 WW firmware update, cause I got a new Transformer, and I want to update it, but not to the new firmware where I cannot perform ROOT.
Thanks.

[Q] ICS update

I see that Asus has an update for the ICS that they released and I was wondering if I already downloaded and installed the rooted one for cwm can I download the update from Asus website and apply to that ROM. Also if so will I lose root. Just curious because it is supposed to fix a lot of the bugs with ICS. Thanks.
The ICS that's out now is just stock ICS with root. It is still stock so should be updatable.
Download it and try it.
What's their method for flashing? And update.zip? I'm unaware of an official flash tool.
...and yes, you will lose root with any official rom. Best bet is to wait until its pre rooted and available to flash with CWM.

I just seen that on the Asus website that they have an update in the firmware that was posted today. I've never downloaded anything from there so I don't know if it's a flashable zip or if once you download it it starts installing itself. Hopefully someone post that update with the stock ICS ROM I downloaded from here because I tried a couple other ROMs and with them all in beta still I don't want to use them yet because of the bugs and I use my tablet all day so don't like having problems with it. I was running revolver before update and loved it, so I guess I'll wait for his new one to be done.
Just looked at the download file it is us_epaduser9_2_1_11updatelauncher.zip so I don't think it will even install with the stock rooted ROM because of sku differences.

[Q] Best option for root

Its good to join a new forum!
Ive decided too take one of tf300s home from work to help feed my root hunger (also running cm10.1 on htc evo 4g lte)
This tablet is currently running 4.0.3
Assuming i will be walking the custom ROM road, should I leave tablet at 4.0.3 or upgrade to JB? I won't have my p c to perform fastboot until next week, this is why i ask.
Thanks in advance

I would suggest moving up to JB. I've been using CM 10.1 (which is running 4.2.1) on my TF300T and it's been great. The UI and options are better on JB than on ICS, even though ICS was a pretty great step up.

I also just got my tablet now and I'm holding the firmware update while reading, what do you advice? push to OTA or unlock, root, then custom rom? I thought I saw few others having problem with JB is that OTA JB? That's why I'm not pushing any OTA updates for now.
Thanks in advance!

1st solution (That I've made)
Don't update to JB now.
Rooted and unlock in ICS
Backup your root with OTA Rootkeeper
and after JB update by OTA and restore your root with OTA ROOTKEEPER.
2nd Solution:
Or unlock and root your TF and use the NVFLASH tool (with pre-JB bootloader)
3rd solution:
Go on OTA JB Update
Unlock your TF
and use this guide : [ROOT/ROM] Root Stock/Deodex Firmware 10.4.2.20 (US/WW) | Insecure kernel ! when you are on the version of firmware
Go to my index and you will find all the links that you need

Thanks for your help here's what I did:
-Unlocked using APK
-did NVFLASH tool
-flash CWM
-root
-install OTA Rootkeeper
Now I want to install hydro and I know I have to be in JB boot loader the only question for me now to be able to proceed is:
-Install the pending OTA JB update (I dont know if this will proceed installing since it was downloaded while Im stock, I'm afraid it will brick my device since Im now unlocked, nvflash, rooted)
OR
-Just DL latest from ASUS (ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T Firmware: V10.4.2.20 Only for US SKU (Android 4.1)) Can I just install the latest or I need to install pre requisite update first?
THEN
-Install compatible recovery for JB
-Install custom rom

It's really easy now that you're unlocked, rooted and used NVFlash.
I suppose you're still in ICS.
Backup somewhere all of your files (stock rom, nvflash file etc...) use Titanium backup for save & restore your apps later
You can use both process for update your TF
The OTA update, and every time, you are going to have to restore your root.

How to update to latest version

I have the us version tf300t 16gb model. I am on .18 firmware. My tablet is unlocked bootloader and rooted. I believe the latest update is .20. How would I go about flashing this and retaining root? and where can I download the update should I just do a ota?
First time boot of my new TF300T brought a prompt to update the firmware. Is 10.4.2.20 what you are inquiring about because that's what I have after the OTA?

Install a recovery as TWRP via fastboot and backup your current rom
Download Apk OTA Rootkeeper from Play Store (Free app)
Backup your root
Use the OTA for update
And restore your root by the OTA Rootkeeper.
In case if it doesn't work, you have a safety way by this guide : Root Asus Firmware 10.4.2.20 , insecure kernel ... US/WW
