Hi, I recently bought a 2GB MiniSD card for my Treo750v. When I put it into the system it worked fine, I installed some programs and put some music on. Then I left the phone alone for a while and the automatic keylock came on. When I returned to the phone and activated it from keylock the sound that is played when removing the card was heard and it reported that there was no card installed when there clearly was. To return the card to working order i had to remove and re-insert it. After that it was fine until keylock came back on and the same thing happened again!
Anyone got any ideas on why this is doing what it is doing!
Point to note, the card works perfectly in an HP device running WM5 and my Digital Camera!
I am starting to think this is a "problem" with the Treo because mine does the same with a 512mb card. Sometimes it wont be "seen" by the PDA but not a problem when put in my other pda.......
Jim
I get the same thing, also with a 2 gig card. But it happens only every other day or so. Still very annoying. Have no clue why this is happening.
I had the same trouble, too. But the trouble has already disappeared by replacement of 2GB mini SD to 1GB mini SD.
Remainning problem is that Spb pocket plus still cannot get application icons on storage card.
Went to a Vodafone store today and told them about the issue. They said it is a known issue and was a problem on a couple devices. They said if I would bring the box and invoice, they would exchange the device. Will do that in the next few days. Hope that solves it.
I have the same problem with my 512mb card and my 2Gig card. But I am in the U.S. and cant bring it in to Vodafone. Does anyone know what else can be done?
I should've did some homework and checked this forum before jumping on my 2GB which I bought 3 days ago. 'doh... I have the same issue here... except in the midst of playing with it, inserting and removing etc... all the data got corrupted. I have to figure out how to reformat the whole card.
Hopefully, there's a software fix later.
Hey
Thanks guys n gals for ur help!
magxs I might have to do the same!!!
Oh bum, silly silly smartphones! I just want something that works!
I've also been having problems with my Treo 750v and the miniSD card (2GB SanDisk Ultra II).
When I insert the card, the Treo sees it and can run programs that are installed on it. When I return the Treo after it has been off for a while the card is no longer recognised and the memory manager claims that no storage card is installed. At this point all I can do is either take the card out and reinsert it, or otherwise to a soft reset. The time it takes for the Treo to loose its connection to the card varies; sometimes I can turn it on after a few minutes and the card is gone, sometimes it still works after a couple of hours.
When I came across this discussion yesterday, I phoned up Vodafone and reported my issue. According to the customer service rep, this is not on their list of known issues but he agreed to an exchange anyway. I'll get the new device today. I hope that'll fix it, but by now have my doubts.
Someone else suggested formatting the SD card, citing issues with FAT16 vs FAT32. I might try that if the new Treo still suffers the same issue.
In another thread on this topic, someone reported that such an issue was observed on some other PPC device and was fixed by a ROM upgrade. I emailed Palm about it. Palm eventually got back to me today saying:
This may occur only with cards that are not Palm branded. If possible please try to use a Palm card to test it.

Either that's a lame excuse, or they're trying to force people into buying their overpriced own branded accessories by making their hardware incompatible with the industry standard. Unless SanDisk don't know how to make miniSD cards...
I guess my next step - after the reformatting - will be to throw £60 at a Palm branded storage card; I don't expect that would work any better than my current card, but at least then Palm can't argue that I'm using "unsupported hardware".
I exchanged my Treo yesterday at a different Vodafone store. The people there didn't know anything about SD card issues either, but they exchanged it anyway. Have been running the new device for about 24 hrs now and no issues, yet. But even on the first device, the problems only started later and even then it wasn't an everyday occurrence. So, I will need to watch it a bit longer.
new rom
Have you tried loading the Cingular ROM and see if it fixes this problem?
After two full days with my new Treo, the SD card was lost again over night. So, it doesn't seem to be an issue that just a few devices were affected by. Too bad....
I didn't try any other ROMs yet.
I have the Cingular ROM, and have the same exact problem.
hi,
i am new to this board and hope you dont mind my bad english. i am from germany and proud owner of a treo 750v
and i tell you what: i am so glad i am not alone with the storage card problem.
it was nearly making me mad.
now i know that there are a lot of other people with the same problem. that may not solve it but gives me a better feeling an hope for an update which solves that.
PS: i use a 1gb sandisk
Well It's working
I bought another MiniSD card the other day, a 512Mb Kingston one, and so far so good, it works well (about 5 days now) and has not been "lost" so far! Not sure if it's the size of card or the make or what but I will keep investigating this!
Hope you resolve your issues!!

What kind of card did you have issues with?
I get the feeling the this might be related to specific cards. To find out: please everybody state which card you are using and if you have problems.
I'm using Sandisk Ultra II 2GB and it's dropping out.
Thanks

i am using sandisc (normal) 1 gb and have the problems.
Card Type
Mine was a generic 2GB card bought on EBAY but the one that is working now is a Kingston 512MB card. The Generic 2GB works perfectly in my Digital camera. There are no Identifying marks on the 2GB card sadly so Cannot say for sure who makes it!
I'm also using a SanDisk Ultra II 2GB, and it's getting dropped regularly.
Sounds like SanDisk is the one to blame.
But would be good to have more reports before we all go out buying new cards. Keep em coming...
My shiny new Galaxy S III has now destroyed two 32gig micro SD cards on me. About two weeks after I installed the first card, my phone started giving messages about the SD card being improperly removed, then it would immediately try to re-mount it, then would say it was removed again, then finally started just repeating the "unable to mount SD card" error until I physically removed the card. I argued with best buy to give me another one, and now today (about two weeks after installing the new one), the same thing happened. I put the card into a USB reader to try it on my computer, and now even my PC does not recognize the card.
Has this happened to anyone else? What can I do to fix this?! I pre-ordered the phone from verizon, so I'm now well out of warranty replacement time.

I have a 32gb MicroSD card and haven't had a problem. I do wish I could use it more as internal memory rather than hardly usable external storage...but that's a different issue.
Sorry I couldn't help, but just wanted to say that Galaxy S III does support that much external storage. Maybe a hardware issue? Try troubleshooting it with another MicroSD card.

Gotta be the cards you're getting I would think. I had a 16gb card that came with my Droid x almost 3 years ago in it for almost 2 months before the card finally crashed.(I'd abused that card tho, carried it in my jeans pocket, left it sitting on my table etc) Then I put my 64gb in it. It's been a little over two weeks now and no probs with it. I've written too it and erased and so on so I've actually used it. It's almost full now actually lol.
I have that same 16 GB from the droid x. Do I still need to format it if I flash a ROM? And how do I check what format its in

My 32gb card was doing that on stock until I finally installed a custom rom. No problem since.
Synergized GS3
SD card gs3 issue
I also had trouble with my external 16gb card after flashing 2 ROMs (synergy & beans v9). I was not even able to get a computer to recognize the sd card after the flashing.
I thought it had to do with using a stock, then rooted stock, then custom kernel. i thought the combination and repeated TBU access over a 4 day period just trashed it. maybe there is more to the story?
1) What is your ROM flashing history (what roms, how long were each installed)?
2) Which rom did you notice the problem on?
3) Were the original and replacement cards the same make/model?
4) What format were the cards in (FAT32, exFAT, or other)?
5) are/have you overclocked your cpu?

nope. all i did was take my 16 gig from my droid x (that OEM card is tough) and slap it in my s3.. and it works.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm still fully stock, I haven't done anything to the phone (yet). I don't know what the format was, I just put them straight into my phone and let it do whatever it wanted to do. The original and replacement are the same make and model, from the same store. So before i panicked too much, I was considering buying a new/different card from amazon and seeing if it does the same thing still.
Just didn't know if anyone else was experiencing this, or had any thoughts on why that would randomly happen on a completely stock phone?

That sounds like your best bet. There are plenty of crappy cards out there. My ADATA 8GB class 10 has been great so far. I have noticed that the GS3 gets really hot right near the cards (micro sd and sim). Can't be great for the cards long term.
I've had my VZW GS3 since 7/5 and have been fine with my card. I've seen plenty of people who've had trouble with FAT32 vs exFAT, but none who have lost their card.
I have seen a ROM break cards before (an early AOSP gingerbread build for the Fascinate claimed one of mine), so I've actually been looking. This is the first thread I've seen.

I've also noticed it gets really hot toward the bottom of the phone. Now that I think of it, both times I noticed the SD card issue right after taking the phone out of my pocket. Maybe it's just getting too hot? I wonder if my case is also holding in a lot of the heat and making it worse? I wish there was a way I could test things without breaking an SD card every time!
My GS3 fried a new 32gb card that I put in it after about 3 weeks. Randomly got an "unreadable SD card error", can't correlate with any specific activity. I reformatted the SD card & it works again in the phone. I was rooted, running stock at the time. Maybe it's the heat, but I don't recall it being hot at the time (I also don't recall it not being hot...)
Try sandisk.I was having problems with lesser brand

I have been using the 32 GB San Disk brand card that came with my thunderbolt and it's been working great.
I really don't know what could cause that to happen to a card and I haven't noticed any other reports of it happening with this phone.
If it comes down to it VZW SHOULD give you a replacement because it could be something to do with the card slot in the phone. I would try talking to them if you can't get it worked out.
So going on the theory that maybe it's just getting too hot, I just ordered a 16gig sandisk ultra micro SD card. It claims to be "temperature proof", whatever that means. Hopefully that clears things up, otherwise I'll have to deal with Verizon, and I'll be super mad if they give me a refurbished phone when this issue actually started two weeks after I got the phone.
If I don't post back here then you can assume all has gone well!
16gb card from droid x
same as others, used the same 16gb card from my droid x, transferred to the bionic when it was released, and now have been using it in the GIII since release. no issues.
I don't believe the phones are getting too hot to do the damage. The hottest temp my battery has gotten had been 106 and they say that heat damage isn't even a concern until around 140 or so. I would think the cards could take the same if not more than the batteries.
I had a similar problem, my sd card wasn't destroyed, but it would randomly become unmounted. It started happening after I hooked my phone up to my corporate email and it forced me to encrypt my device. After I removed the corporate account it stopped happening. This was all on stock TouchWiz from the factory.

I have had my 64gb SD card for a month and so far nothing went wrong. did you buy your SD cards from a reputable source? I have always used sandisk SD cards try buying one from Sandisk or even Samsung. if you bought your card from ebay make sure the card works, I have heard that some times people sell damaged cards for very cheap. But other than that good luck.
16 GB class 10 sandisk 30 mb/s version died on me with this phone after 2 weeks, stock ROM, formatted with phone. It was brand new.
The error I had was it became read only. And no it was not fixable, I tried everything. Low level format, checking permissions, different OS's, putting it in SD adapter and messing with lock switch on there.
I read class 10s are more prone to die quicker and aren't necessarily better, but just different from a lower class. Ie a lower class will last longer because it read and writes differently and doesn't skip certain safeties like a class 10 does.
Running a class 4 16gb sandisk now and it is annoyingly slow.

I was going to post this in response to a couple of people in the development sections but my post count is too low so I'll post it here instead.
The SD slot in this phone seems to have an issue with corrupting SD cards, I've had to format both my old and new SD card multiple times with this phone as it becomes unusable every few days. I'm not versed enough in hardware to know if this is a bad connection between the SD slot and the "motherboard" of the phone. I've seen a number of people have their SD cards go bad with this phone and I assume that means we had a manufacturing issue. It would be really cool if a hardware hacker experiencing this issue could take a look inside and confirm whether or not the hardware is connected correctly.
Well, perhaps there's a high number of bad readers....
I've had the same card in my Q since the day I got it (mid-September), no issues.
Mine wouldn't read the day I swapped up from My Epic 4g Touch to This phone, So I popped in an sd reader backed up my data then let the Moto format it, no issues sence
Curious to know what class of card you guys are running. I've been running a Patriot class 10 but my previous was a class 4 without branding that came with my old Transform.
I'm really hoping that I just had my old SD card die at a bad time and that my newer SD card was just sent bad. Today I couldn't get the card to read from the SD slot in my computer, and it would not be cool if my phone caused it to become that way.

Class 10 Maxell
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2074251
No issues here. I tossed the crappy class 2/4 that shipped with my Epic long ago.
Well I found an extra class 4, 2 GB SD card lying around the house when I was cleaning today. It may be that the local shipment of phones was bad, so if this SD card goes on me then I'll try exchanging the phone in another town just to be safe.
Just out of curiosity does anyone know whether Sprint orders enough phones for replacements with their original shipments? I'm not from a very large town so I'd imagine they would keep replacing with phones from the same batch.
I've got a Samsung 32GB class 10 mSD.
Nearly everytime I reboot my Photon Q it says "SD Card is damaged".
Go into settings, Mount SD Card once or twice and it works.
I've read, that other Android Devices have also problems with that size of SD Cards. (Google)
I had also problem in recovery restoring a backup, the restore process didn't went correctly
(said that everything was fine), had to use my 2GB mSD, which worked nicely and the backup also.
So I think it's an android/kernel issue than a hardware issue.
I have noticed that I get the corrupt sdcard error everytime I try to use the "mass storage" or "media device" setting with Windows.
I use Ubuntu 99% of the time and leave it connected in "camera" mode, have never had that pop up like that...
I usually just use ADB to copy everything anyway so I do not miss the "mass storage" mode at all.
Just had a 16gb class 10 microcenter branded card go belly up on me. Phone just all of a sudden said it was removed and now nothing seems to recognize the thing. The mount option is completely greyed out, and does the same on my note 10.1 if i pop it in there.
When your cards have gone did they completely disappear and refuse to read?

I wonder if it's the c10 cards...
You guys really shouldn't be using high class cards in a phone - there's really no benefit, as phones use SD card's very differently from camcorders or cameras...
On my ooooold phone, anything above Class6 was bad juju. I have always had class4 or lower cards, no fried cards (yet... lol)
kinda what I am feeling too. Not sure what class card I have but it was just a cheap 32gb from wallmart... Only had that error pop up once with this one though, and that was after trying to use usb storage.

Class 10 shouldn't make a difference to a device. The class/speed only comes in to play when transferring data from/to a computer, which will be faster on Class 10 vs Class 4 or 6.

As best as I can tell, thats a negative. Ive been running with a 32GB class 10 since around when the phone was released, and Ive had no issues. Quite surprising on its own, seeing as I abuse the poor thing. True that class 10 arnt useful for the phone specifically, but some shops only carry class 10 cards.
@hfase
I dont seem to have any issues with mass storage, with ~1GB written a day. Im quite curious as to why some people have this issue.

Maybe it's all down to the quality of the actual card itself?
Perhaps the cheaper no-name / off-name brands have a much higher failure rate....?
I'm not really sure, short of actual hardware issues on the device.
AW: Your SD card likely isn't the problem
Well here is my experience:
I am using a new san disk 32GB class10 micro sdcard. It was never format ed/ used before. The q itself formated the disk.
I have had no problems until using the twisted asanti prebuild
Version. Since then I only got problems with the qu saying the sdcard would be corrupt, after reboot. ( I expected some additional wired things, like the currents widget, which I deleted before reboot reappeared). So I would suggest it is an error in un mounting the sdcard before shutdown, which causes this failure.
Since I usually do not reboot the phone expect for flashing new roms, I had no trouble since then.
Hope this might help to further circle the problem, and maybe find a solution for this.

Since CM10 I haven't noticed any SD-Card issues, but I have the feeling, that there are some issues, which aren't detected.
In the last few days my CM10 was acting weird.
1. The gallery (together with the camera app, 2in1 app) disappeared in the App Drawer (was still in /system/app) and didn't appear again after overwriting gallery2.apk again.
2. The Google Weather App had a graphical issue, so I was sure, that there was a flash issue by restoring ASA14 and flashing CM10 (from SD-Card!).
I solved this issue in copying the nandroid backup and CM10 to the phone and flash it from there.
I have tested my SD-Card in my external cardreader, it had no issues in doing so.
My guess is, that the SD-Card needs more power than the Photon Q can give and is losing some read/write commands.

I've used better Samsung and Sandisk cards and have had this issue. It just randomly wipes all my data and creates the LOST.DIR with it all in there, but file names are all renamed and would takes years to sort through and try to figure out what is what. All my photos, music, etc.. were basically gone then. It didn't matter that the card was a name-brand or not. I've had the issue with several cards.
I constantly have this problem as well, and I've found that mounting the SD card with a reader or in another phone in a Linux environment fixes it for the most part. I think files still get lost, but you get most of what you had back.
I got a 32GB UHS1 card last week and it hasn't had a problem.
Hello guys, I have problem with my 16GB and 8GB MicroSD, it just standard class not class 10. I got weird behaviour, maybe many people facing the same issue with me. My sd card removed unexpectedly even my sensation was idle. There's no heat no heavy usage running. Tried reformating several times but again this problem still there. Tried changing rom from ViperS, CM10.2, CM11 no luck. Also I had already returned to the distributors with the new microsd but again, it happens to me. I don't why when I use 4GB my sensation running fine, no problem at all. This is the Sensation limitation? Maybe people have some advice how to solve this problem. Thank you
anyone?
Never heard of it, I've used 8gb, 16gb,32gb, and 64gb on multiple htc sensations, never had a that problem you describe.
But, it sounds like the pin might be lose?? does the card pull out easily when you pull it? i.e. you don't push it in first to get it out but even in this case, the card should be lodged safely inside the enclosure. Maybe it's bad design on the card? like too thin or something and so the electrical contact keeps shorting out
try googling
Sounds like a bad SD card to me. I'm using a 64GB Sandisk card without any problem.
I found this thread mentioning problems with S-ON might cause this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2174337
I thought it was my bad sdcard too. Because now I've tested sandisk 4Gb class 4 running without any problem. Don't know why with Vgen Sdcard(local brand on my country) I keep facing this problem, both 8Gb and 16Gb. Maybe the vgen sdcard can't survive with high temperature on sensation, since sensation sometimes getting hot. Today I've ordered Sandisk ultra 8Gb class 10 and will check if the problem still exist.
I have had my S7 since pretty much the beginning, I was fortunate enough to receive mine fairly early compared to others. Along with purchasing my new phone, I got a Samsung 64GB EVO Class 10 SD card to take advantage of the expandable storage. Everything had been going find until earlier today. I noticed that I got a notification that my SD card was corrupt, I didn't think it was that big of a deal as I didn't have very much data on the card as of yet so I clicked the option to format it. The phone seemed to be having issues reading the actual card as it couldn't seem to format it, an error kept popping up saying that the command had failed. I then put the SD card into my laptop to see if I'd have any more luck with it, and sure enough windows told me that the only way the card could be read was if it was formatted. After formatting the card through my computer, I put it back into my phone. It worked for about 5 minutes or so before telling me it was corrupt again, I'm not exactly sure where to go from here.
I had this Samsung 64GB EVO Class 10 Micro SDXC Memory Card with Adapter (MB-MP64DA/AM) from amazon with my S4 with no problems since it went on sale back in December. Last Friday I got the same message that it was now corrupt and I need to format it. My computer cant see it and I have some intense data recovery software that cant help either. Since those little SD cards have a 10 year warranty I got on the phone to Samsung. I spoke with a Samsung Galaxy expert and they advised me to call their Micro SD support team at 1-800-726-7864. I'll call them tomorrow and report back what they say.
Prolly got a fake from amazon
Amazon do insist they don't sell fake cards, however I have had the exact same problem with the exact same memory card, also bought off amazon. I've used this card in a few different phones with no issue, however upon installing it in my GS7, within a few days I got the same error message as described here. I have contacted Amazon and have had a replacement card (same one) and will see how it goes. I'm on about day three so far with no apparent issues. Tick Tock Tick Tock.....
I'll probably call them up also.. but I think I'll see what happens with yours before I just destroy another SD card
Just got off the phone with Samsung. They're sending me a RMA form to fill out through my email for a replacement. After the whole amazon fake SD card fiasco they're going through they are being very helpful so far. If you can return to amazon it will probably be quicker but I am at day 100 or so with this card.
I think I have the same problem. I have a Samsung card also (not evo) and have used it in several phones without a problem until now. In my case the card corrupts at reboot. I managed to f around and somehow the card was readable again (after re-inserting several times). However on the latest reboot I the phone no longer detects the card at all.
I doubt I have a fake card as I have been using it for over a year now and almost filled the capacity (64GB). I even formatted it when I first inserted into the GS7.
I have since ordered a new card but I hope this phone is not going to be killing cards!
RMA received. Samsung wanted a jpg or pdf of sales receipt and a pic of the back of the card. Card will be mailed to Samsung at my expense ($2 ish) and a new unit will be sent out. Fingers are crossed that the fast charge tech isn't sending card killing voltage spikes through the phone.
Just a quick update guys, in case it helps anyone, but my new card replaced from Amazon is working OK so far without issue.
Update, whilst it hasn't killed my SD card, I've just had an update and after that it refuses to write to any memory card I have. So I'm returning it tomorrow, it will read OK, but not write to.
I'm using a samsung pro+ 64GB card with my S7 and that annoying SD card notification keeps popping out. Sometimes I could see another notification said SD card removed/unmounted unexpectedly then the annoying notification. I've tried using an old 32GB TF card and I've never seen this annoying notification.
My guess is that S7/S7E have some compatibility issue with even Samsung's own newer and faster SD cards.
I'm waiting anxiously for an OTA hoping this is a software issue. I hope my S7 won't corrupt my SD card.
Update: Just received my replacement micro XD from Samsung in less than 2 weeks, very cool. I like their new usb card reader, very slick. Well see how long this lasts. I also just had a OTA update to the S7. Lets see what they fixed.
BlueT
Same issue
Exactly same scenario as bensto23 first described, same SD card, however....I replaced that 64GB Samsung EVO with a Patriot 128GB and after about 2 weeks the same message popped up. But when I put this card in my laptop it couldn't see a problem (the Samsung was unreadable). So the Patriot went back in and everything was good until about a week later....same thing. S7 says the card is corrupted but it's not and works fine after removing and replacing. Haven't had time to call Samsung support but obviously this looks like an ongoing issue. So frustrating since this phone has been so flawless otherwise.
My S7 is in for repair as I type this. It's 6 weeks old. I had a 64GB SD card that I had used in my S5 for 18 months with no issues. I didn't have an S6 due to lack of SD slot and not waterproof. At 3 weeks old, the 64GB card developed a problem. I removed it from my S7, put it in my laptop, only to find it was corrupted, and I couldn't do anything with it. I put it down to being one of those things, and bought a 128GB SD. 3 weeks in again, and exactly the same fault! It is a hardware issue with the S7. I put my 32GB SD card in from my LG Leon, and the S7 wouldn't read that either. Be interesting to see what Samsung will do about replacing cards that have been destroyed by a phone!
Think i might be facing the same problem. When i put in a Sd card my phone freezes up a couple of times a day and without a sd card it running fine. I even think it messed up my first sd card because even after a format i cant write files bigger then 1 gb onto the card without getting a error on the computer. Also i can only do a quick format and if i do a full/long one it will eject the drive and fails every time. Im to scared to try a new sd card and think ill send this one back for warranty.
corrupt sd card
i have same problem with A7(2016) but i use 64GB U3 kodak SD card. it works fine until last week. i saw that i cant play musics so open memory by ES file Explorer and it says that empty. but when connect it to my loptop it had no problem and i find some files that recently created and remove files with 0 byte size. then connect memory to my phone it works nice but some day later the sd corrupts again and i repeat every thing i do last time and it work but sometime later corrupt again. i am confused how i can stop this cycle
help if can please
sorry my english language is not good
Every phone I've had, every forum for that phone, complains of issues with Samsung cards, I would never touch Samsung cards. I've never had an SD card corrupt or fail but then i've never bought a Samsung card.
Got the same problem. Every time I reboot or unmount the external sd-card, the card becomes "corrupted". When I put the card in my PC it's just fine. I can read and write to the card.
I've got the 128gb sd card from Samsung (got it for free with the purchase of the phone).
Getting sick and tired of having manually backup and restore to my SD-card when I reboot my phone. Does anyone has a solution for this?
**EDIT
This must be software related, since when I do not reboot, the SD-card works perfectly fine. It only happens when I reboot or unmount.
had the same problem in my s7, it turned out for me the culprit is when I enable the pics saving to extsd option in camera. this corrupts my extsd.
before extsd it worked perfectly fine for days and weeks and survived plenty of reboots in the S7 (and in my previous phones as well), but as soon as I enabled the pics saving from camera to extsd option in the s7, at next reboot the message about corrupted camera came out. I can replicate this problem with these exact steps, so it is 100% sw issue for me, and related to that option in camera settings... if I use my intsd for camera pics, everything works just fine, I can see and access all my other content in the extsd etc.......
