gingerbread update problem - General Questions and Answers

i have a rooted epic 4g on froyo and i want to update to gingerbread. Everytime I try the OTA i get a error message. I have read that it is because my phone is rooted and needs to be stock. How can I unroot my phone back to stock. Also, after i go back to stock, do i have to install froyo then gingerbread or can i just install gingerbread directly.

2.2.1 Deodex and installing themes

Just applied the latest update for 2.2.1. However before i did that i used 928droid's "stock odexed theme" to get back to as close to stock as possible to avoid problems.
Now how will i go about getting themes again? Can i use their "deodexer" them on the newest 2.2.1 update. Or will i have to manually do it? And even then, are we able to install 2.2 themes on the newest 2.2.1 update?
2.2.1 Deodex issue
I did the exact same as you by returning from 928 to "stock odexed theme", then I unrooted before getting the OTA. I wanted to avoid any problems for the update. I rerooted with z4root and all was well at that point. When I tried to go back with the 928 "deodexer" theme my phone would not reboot. I pulled the battery, started over and had the same result. Probably need to wait for a 928 update that works with system version 2.3.340 as the latest one available is for 2.3.15.

Can someone please help me get back to Gingerbread?

First off, just let me say that I am not a complete newbie, but I am fairly new to this so bare with me, I am sorry.
Ok so here is the story. I got the phone new with froyo and then got the OTA update for gingerbread.. I hated the the new camera app, so I rooted, flash clockwork recovery and flashed back to Froyo. Well I got sick of Froyo because besides the camera, gingerbread to me is way better. But this is where I have problems. I tried to flash back to stock gingerbread and it said "installation aborted" every time and I have no idea why. I tried to update through LG updater with no luck, and I dont know why, maybe baseband? So I get pissed and unroot and flash back stock recovery, which is where I am at now. All I want is to get back to gingerbread and be official so I can be all set to get any future updates if we are so lucky to get one? I'm not expecting an update but I'll be happy with the phone in gingerbread with stock rom, I had my fun with custom roms, dont care for it anymore. I didnt do any back ups, and im currently on 2.2 everything stock.
Can anyone help me? Point me in the right direction?
back up everything you want off your phone to your PC. This will wipe everything. Follow the guide exactly.

[Q] Going Back to 2.3.6

I just rooted my phone on android 2.2.2, but I was wondering if I can go back to android 2.3.6 without my phone unrooting?
I've rooted 2.3.4 then updated to 2.3.6 and still had root, lots of variables there though.
soo you think it will work
Yea, if you have root and do an OTA update, you should still have root.

[Q] Semi-noob question about returning to stock.

I did a search and couldnt find the answer to this.
I have a TMOUS Sensation 4G, i went ahead and did s-off, rooted, and installed an ics rom. I loved the rom, but decided to go back to stock due to radio issues i just couldn't get figured out with multiple attempts. So, i'm back to current stock firmware and am un-rooted. The only thing i haven't done is gone back to s-on. Does anyone no if that will effect me getting the OTA to ICS when released?
Thanks for the help!
No being S-off will not keep you from getting the OTA update when it gets pushed. You just have to be running the 1.50 software and have the stock recovery.
Check out this thread and follow the instructions in order to install the ICS OTA.

EVO 3D CDMA back to stock GB from OTA ICS

I did the OTA update to ICS and I do not like it. I would like to return my phone back to how it was before the update. A GB RUU would be prefered.. So far, I've got ROOT and S-Off. I would like to go back to HBOOT 1.5 and stock GB.
