Seen Outbreak! Zombie Apocalypse app? My ideas for it - Android Apps and Games

If you haven't already check it out on the market. Those of you who do know what this app is, it could become a great success, perhaps as big as Foursquare if it's developed right. This is a discussion.
I I have a few great ideas that could really help the app, I emailed the Dev, but here are my ideas:
First, We need a concept for local small businesses to get involved. Like a local small business can sign up to be a hut for zombies or shelter for survivers, and they get something to print to put in their window--this can easily be implemented and will draw more attraction to the app.
Second, app needs checking in capabilities with a way to post on Facebook where you are at and if you are infected. This will encourage Facebook people who don't have the app to check it out, and those who do have the app will benefit because they will see you checked in somewhere do they will go over and try to attack/infect you.
Third, there needs to be some CPU players or computers for the time being--they should occasionally move around too, since the game isn't well adapted yet and not a lot of people have it.
Finally, the app needs push notifications via Google's cloud to device messaging (C2DM), and a widget so one can see newest info and if they are close to someone. Make the widget refresh time a fixed value of off or like 2 hours (obviously to force the user to check surroundings), and to manully refresh you have to press & hold your thumb on the thumb scanner on the widget.
Any ideas anyone else has?

Its interesting that I've not seen this as I search often for zombie games. I will need to get acquainted with the app but your ideas sound awesome.

[ANDROID][SECURITY] Malicious app found in Market

There is a rogue application in the Android Market, from the Android Central post:
Lookout says that one or more of these apps are stealing your data and sending it to an unknown person or persons in China. Yup, innocent looking wallpaper apps. According to Lookout, the app(s) in question are collecting:
* browsing history
* text messages
* your SIM card data
* subscriber ID
* voicemail password

Reporting a maliciois app in Android Market
RE: Homerun 3D and Slice It
I searched for a proper place to ask this, and describe what I found, and found this thread. I am aware Google has a malicious app reporting process, but I was wondering if any of the great minds here know of a more efficient means to get an app scrutinized by the Market powers-that-be.
The App is a duo, really, that I know of so far. I did not go too far with my investigations once I determined this is a Chinese company (remember the lcd picture frame Trojan?) and once I saw what I did.
I downloaded "Homerun 3D" for my EVO 4G (cyanogen mod), a kick ass batting game to which I quickly was addicted. However, as is common with many apps, during transitions (ad breaks) it would overlay a large ad for various other apps, but the most heavily pushed app (by an estimated 9:1 ratio relative to other apps) was "Slice It", offering extra bonuses in the Homerun 3D game if you DL'd it. I dl'd it and installed it, but once I opened it, superuser notified me it was attempting root access. Of course, this is a HUGE deal, in fact I'd say (and request feedback from those in the know) that proves it is a malicious app, given that no where did it mention that it needed or would use root access. I can't fathom this being an 'honest' developer's mistake.
So I denied it root access and it launched anyway. Hm. In other words, an ingenious method to check for unlocked doors without having to set up a complex ruse of creating an app that notifies it will need to have root access to work. Just write a kick ass fun and addictive 'innocent' app, heavily push and offer incentives to dl and install a so-so app that checks for an exploits unprotected root access, and wah-la, due to the intensely developed dun and addictive nature of the 'innocent' app, you have a much wider distribution of your Trojan that ostensibly gets more chances of hitting an unlocked door. By adding the extra layer of an 'innocent' app, that high-end intensely developed app continues to be listed on the market and continues to push the simple trojan app and so only the trojan app gets removed once discovered. All that the devs need to do then is quickly hammer out another trojan simple app, and update the high-end app to push the new low-end app, instead of developing a whole different kick ass app each time they're discovered.
It's the equivalent of a legit door-to-door cable tv salesmen heavily referencing an unscrupulous installer who is known to sneak around the your house looking for unlocked drawers, cabinets, etc. The fact that the legit cable salesman heavily references him makes that cable salesman very suspicious.
So, while I suspected the Homerun 3D app was complicite given the heavy pushing of the 'Slice It' root checking app, I kept poking around. I looked at the "credits" and while seemingly not hiding the fact they all had Asian sounding names, the use of the middle name nick (as in Jung "Madman" Li) seemed overdone, as if they used corny English nicks, almost too corny to be real, to appear disarming.
But the final straw was when I looked at one of the standard banner ads that run along the bottom of the screen during gameplay. It was a generic Best Buy (low res graphics at that) ad for a $349 laptop. I clicked it and it took me to an ad proxy URL which reported it could not resolve the URL. But get this...the URL of the ad proxy showing in my browser window was:
fraud.mojility.com.
Hm. Not sure why mojility would redirect a banner add to land on a URL with "fraud" in its address, and yet not explain why, but all my circumstantial evidence put together (as if Slice It's secret root checking is not enough in and of itself) warrants a report, I think.
1. Homerun 3D app heavily pushes obvious Trojan app.
2. Homerun 3D app contains at least one banner that directs to a fraud URL.
3. Homerun 3D app credits seem concocted.
4. Slice it app SECRETLY checks for root access, works anyway when denied.
So, thoughts about my tentative conclusion? And if it's agreed, anyone know a more efficient means to alert of a potential malicious app than the Android process?
I'm in contact with someone at Google about this, ohiojoe.
according to a post in a german forum the su request is caused by moblix ad sdk. Imho that doesn't make it any better but the contrary.
I reported them to Google. For me Com2us is dead, will ignore all their games from now on.
Damn, that's scary, thanks for the heads up!
There was some game I installed that was made by some Chinese company. Shortly after people on my gmail contacts started getting spam from me.
I logged into gmail and had a red bar that said my account was being frequently accessed from china.
I quickly changed the password and uninstalled the app.

Yea, Android is so vulnerable, they should implement into the OS a tool that manages what parmissions a user allows or denies from an app. Like in the old times with Sony Ericsson Walkman phones.
Here in android you install and app, and everything it comes with it...
There an app called Permission WatchDog it's useful it identifies the permissions of apps, but just that.
I haven't been hacked on sending SMS spam, but I have received some spam, only in SMS thought. And just that thanks God.
Mostly after I had installed an app of galleries of pictures...
And what's obiously suspecious, are those.
And those that shows you a picture after you finish a call...-.- WHAT THA FCK!! How ridiculous!
Why tha #$%& would you ever install such crap app?
I ve never installed those, except the galleries ones (asian girls gotta say), but for some reason they're not working for me anymore, I wonder why?..
Neighter I install those crappy ass games, only Raging Thunder and such, which are worth of being developed for a "smart phone"....

I'm the OP. Sorry just now getting back this. As I said before, I did not grant Slice It the access it wanted, and it launched anyway (meaning, it didn't need it....just 'wanted' it) but did NOT have any access to my root, so I had no issues.
However, Googling it I saw at least one nit wit (read: a text book example of why not just ANYone should root their phones) report that he gave the Slice It app Su access and was posting that he dint see why it needed it. So, Slice It apparently targets unprotected root phones and nit wit owners of Su protected root phones.

[APP] Great location/map app called Glympse

I just wanted to share with all of you a fantastic app called Glympse.
It is free and very useful.
It allows you to send a link to a map that tracks your location. You choose how long the link is active for and whether it displays your speed.
So, for example, if you are on your way to a friends and they txt you asking where you are and when you'll arrive... you can send them a link that is only active for 30 min (or how ever long you wish) and they can track you on their computer or smartphone.
This is better then Latitude because it works with all phones, all addresses (email or sms), and is temporary. Check out their website for a better explanation of the app.
I love it... you might too. Give it a shot and support a great dev.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.glympse.android.glympse
http://www.glympse.com
pretty neat, thanks for sharing
Hate to bump up a super old thread however I think this needs some re-hashing on how great this app is.
I've been fighting to find a decent real time GPS tracker for quite a while. Each one I find has some sort of obnoxious limitation that drives me insane. Google Latitude was one of the ones I thought for sure would be a home run, except.. it wasn't. I mean, it works great, don't get me wrong... but it's a little ridiculous that I have ZERO configurable options to enable GPS to run even in the background. Nearly every other app I've used does. Not even the option to have GPS "check in" every 10 minutes? Really?
That said, I moved on, and now have been using Glympse. Super handy, super accurate, and doesn't require a specific kind of email address. Makes it that much more cross-compatible and less of a headache. "Oh, you need a Gmail address, just go register for one quick." None of that.
Overall, it's a must to at least have installed. I find it much easier to just Glympse a family member my location so they know when I'm getting home. Recently I would have had a huge use for this as we got hit with some nasty floods. I was driving for many hours to find other roads that were not closed. It would have been nice to have had this just so family members knew I was still on the move and still on my way home.
Anyway, check it out. I'm a fan.

[APP] Task Identifier [Android 2.1 and up!!!]

!!!If you have Android 2.1 the app now is in the market!!!
Android 2.2 and higher are also still supported
This is not another Auto Task Killer, no.
Thanks for all the help from everyone! We've moved into a lite and full version now on Android 2.2 and 2.3 phones. This is a new program which allows the user to specify alert levels to phone tasks and give you insight into what your phone is really doing. Make a call, ever wonder what apps may be listening? What's going on when you phone is in standby? In creating this, I will say that I've been surprised a few times at what is really going on. I want any and all feedback as well as we are trying to make this into something special. I am the actual developer of this app.
The full version has:
-Common Names and Actual Application Icons
-No Ads
-Access to all App Settings
-Ability to change alert level from List Tasks
-Removed Internet and Location Permissions
And we have a slew of other features planned for only the full version, but we don't want to spill the beans on those quite yet, but they will enhance the tool greatly!
Both versions now have the new UI as well.
Anyone who had the beta should be notified to upgrade to the lite version now.
Download Task Identifier Lite from your phone:
market://search?q=pname:com.task.identifier
Download Task Identifier Full from your phone:
market://search?q=pname:com.task.identifier.full
I've also attached a QR Code to scan for both versions. Or just search for Task Identifier in the market.
I hope you all find this useful and enjoy!!

Hehe, I like how the only comment for the app (5 stars and "awesome" as comment) is currently by a user named 'x2k'. Hmmm.
I've just installed it and it's been less than a minute and I got an alert from an app that no longer needs to sync...So I disabled it (every little bit of non-sync means longer battery life!).
So far it's looking very promising! I'll definitely report back on my experiences!
Okay, first big thing...
Can you please resolve the cryptic app names to their more friendly name variants?
It's hard to read and make out the com.blah designations.
Thanks!
So far it seems like a cool app. I've been using WatchDog for ages to alert me when an app misbehaves.
But I'm confused about this app. When would you want to be using this? Can you give an example?
I'll keep it installed and see how it goes. Thanks.

Thanks. I'm playing around with it and actively trying to make notifications pop up I opened Facebook and Google Reader started, as did Maps. Weird.
Which brings me to a question: how do we know whether the task started was CAUSED by the current app I'm using, or Android just randomly started it?
For example, it's possible Facebook opened Maps in order to try to get my location, but I don't see the connection between Facebook and Google Reader. Which is why I ask if it's random, or the app I'm using is causing other tasks to run.

Sounds like a great troubleshooting tool. Nice work!
I'm liking this app more and more. A few more comments and requests.
Comments
* I like the main app window. Large fonts, long-press to get quick-help or short press to go to the item. Nice
* Screen off app start notification, nice!
Requests
1. Possible to get more detail about why or how an app was triggered? Like, was it triggered by a service? another app? etc. And did the triggered app take any actions? Like sending network traffic or queried the GPS and such?
2. The 'Setup Alerts' window is hard to read through, could you maybe add color so all the status 'Green' items have the word 'Green' in green font and so on?
Just added a 5 star rating on Market, keep up the good work!

There will probably be updates from time to time through the market
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
First of all, thanks for a great app.
I really like the fact that it reports on tasks/processes started while the screen was off!
I have some suggestions though:
1: When I click the icon in the app list to open the menu, it just shows the "Starting monitor" message and nothing else. I have to open an app to get the message in the pull down bar and click on that to start the application it self.
2: On my Samsung Galaxy S i9000 the layout of the application is just a bit to long for a full screen. We are talking about 1 cm or something.
3: I would very much like a log, so that I can check back, what applications started during screen off, and at what time/date.
4: The way the Android memory management works, I guess it's normal for Android to start and application/process to memory by itself from time to time. Is it possible to show this somehow? For what is interesting here is when an application is launching another application or process, and not when Android memory management is putting an application in memory.
Thanks for your great work, I'm looking forward to further updates to the application!
Just saw this on the front page and thought it looked pretty interesting. Installed a few minutes ago, but so far I like it. Not too intrusive with the pop-up.
As Namuna posted though it would be nice to get more detail.
Also to have the actual app name rather than com.xxx.
Really good work.
Installed.
I like the idea that we can see what tasks are really doing in the background. But as noted by some above, the notifications are a bit cryptic at the moment.
After installing and running the app, I started updating some of my other apps in App Market and my phone crashed. This has not happened before and I seems from my layman eyes that too many things might have been running in the background.
When the phone restarted, it too forever for anything to be displayed and the 3 widgets I had on the homescreen refused to load up. Again it seems to me that this app is popping up too many notifications - I have now stopped the app from starting up and running on start up.
I don't know whether this is unique to me or not though. I am running the app on Samsung Galaxy S (international) on stock Froyo with LauncherPro.
Still, I like this app and will use it more. Keep up the great work and many thanks.
Edit : just checked app settings again, and although I explicit unchecked app running on phone startup, the box is checked again. I unchecked the box and pressed save again. Re-entered app settings and the box is checked again. Am I missing something?
This looks very interesting.. So it's installed and ready for testing
Thank you very much for that app, it's awesome. I agree with the recent posters that the name of the app in addition to the com.blah.blubb would be a great help to identify the task. Also I'd like to see a possibility for a logfile.
Keep up the good work!
EDIT: I can hardly read the small, dark font when setting task levels since I use almost the very darkest display settings to save battery. So being able to chose the font color would be great but has absolutely no priority. Again: great app!Using it all day long now and I am surprised what tasks are being started!

[New App] AirDroid Lets Your Desktop Control Your Android Phone Over WiFi

For those who spend a lot of time looking at a computer, and can't be bothered to look at their phone very often, Sand Studio has introduced AirDroid, an app that allows users to control their Android Phone from a computer via WiFi.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=WfNnQxpw7Uw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfXRhSIm-m0
The great thing about AirDroid is that it works - it's easy to start up, and functions flawlessly (in my experience). The interface is also very polished - mimicking a desktop launcher complete with moveable icons, a task bar, and controls that allow you to do just about anything.
One of the most impressive features is the ability to access SMS messages, manage them, and send messages right from a web browser. Users can also manage contacts, uninstall/backup apps (AirDroid will download your apps as apk files), browse files, access the Android Market, and manage music and ringtones, in addition to the ability to look at phone information from CPU status to battery level and beyond.
Best of all, AirDroid is completely free from the Android Market. With all the powerful features it offers, this app is certainly worth checking out.

I'm a little hesitant to try out apps like this as well but they have nothing but good feedback on the market and a good following on both Facebook and Google+, as well as having their own website, so I was happy to give it ago.
@smackdownn Yeah I am with you on the whatsapp, this app is brilliant.
@Nucleotide & SpyderTracks Seriously? Whats the issue with privacy? Scared these devs are going to email or sms your gf while you are out? Either that or learn to hide your porn somewhere that is not your phone. I have said this before on so many occasions, when you were using a nokia/winmo/other NON android phone, they sneakily NEVER asked for permissions, but you installed apps that could pretty much do anything on your phone anyway
This app is by far the best solution I have tried in this regard, it just works and damn well too
@Cornelha
Lol.... I get what you're saying, but I think it's a little naive... the information we hold on smartphones these days compared to "our old nokias" means security is vital. After years of dodgy torrents, malware and hacked accounts, I've learnt to take it a bit more seriously, albeit probably to the extreme

I agree. I don't have anything I would call "sensitive data" on my phone but I do have a lot of contact information such as names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers and other information which although not really sensitive, I still don't want other people to have - especially if I don't know about it. Not only that but apps can track your location, the buttons you press on your phone, numbers dialed, text messages sent, websites you visited, and the list goes on.
With that in mind I take caution when installing any app. I check for things like the amount of reviews on the market, the quality of the reviews (good vs. bad), does the developer have a website, a Facebook page with a good following, and so on.

[APP] [2.2+] iGag - 9Gag for Android

Hi there,
I've recently developed a 9Gag application for Android - iGag -, as I've switched from my iPhone to my Android Phone i felt the need for a good application to browse with.
I had previously developed the first 9Gag app for the iPhone (iGag, hence the name), and I tried to port most of the features I felt necessary such as comments, offline mode and like/dislike. Although I previously used InfiniteGAG, I thought it lacked a bit on the feature and presentation side.
Here's a list of the most relevant features:
Hot, Trending, Vote, Random and Favorites Gags sections.
Fully zoomable High-Resolution images.
Fullscreen Mode
Holo Interface
Login on 9Gag
Like and Unlike images
Autologin
Caching for offline browsing!
Caching in background for usability purposes.
Google Play - iGag
Hope you have the time to test the application, and I'd be glad if you could give in your input to help improve the app as much as possible.
P.S. Recently added Jelly Bean support, "might" be a bit unstable!

Will try this too! Looks like NINE though, the interface.
By the way, if Apple sues you for the i in iGag, send him trucks of one cent coins this time. LOL kidding xD
Cool app, can't login thou
you gotta do sth about it
cause 9gag doesn't signup with email anymore
Pretty cool. The UI is very well designed and it is fast! I think everyone should try this if they read 9gag
Thanks for the work.
Ive been using this app for a month, and gonna give five stars as the result

Love it... Can you put a loading sign for the pictures that loading? Like the one in nine

The UI is too cramp. Is it possible for the save button etc to appear ONLY when the picture is click?
I will try to sort out a better interface for all the functionality associated with the Gags themselves.
As far as not being able to Sign up, check the intructions on the login screen, you can still signup by e-mail if you're not logged in to facebook on your browser and you go to their sign up page.
I will try to add the Facebook login as I had it on the iPhone version aswell.
Hey, nice app!
But I am missing a loading sign at some points, too. I was a bit confused when i "clicked" and nothing seemed to happen.
Another idea: When you click an icon, it could change its color, like getting brighter or sth., so you see instantly what you clicked, in case you clicked wrong.
Anyway, really cool so far!
//edit: i like the idea of an easier facebook login, too
Hey there andryyyy, you mean a loading sign on which button clicks? Save button?
Glad you enjoy it nevertheless

As soon as I get some time to recreate all the product's image to fit the name I will
Focusing on functionality and use over branding atm
Looks like Ifunny but better

Wow, the sheer number of 9Gaggers here is astounding. I bet not one of you knew Slenderman before that stupid Slender game was made. Did you know your community has been the most hated community on the internet since eBaums? I wish those newfags on /b/ just DDOS'd your site.

iGag, why you no show nsfw posts?!
I think it's like Nine - 9gag for android, but Nine has a bit better design and handling in my opinion
loving the caching feature! really helpful.
comments are awesome too.
app is sluggish while loading (but who cares).
app closes when entering another app (i usually 9gag, and whatsapp at the same time, i notiiced that it closed itself when i entered whatsapp and then got back to it)
