[Q] What's the general consensus on the official version of GB? - Verizon Droid Charge

Hi All,
I'm currently on Humble 5.0 RC2, and find it fairly stable, though my battery life is no where near as good as it was under Humble 4.0.
I'm curious as to the feelings of those who have switched to the Official GB release.
Were you on a custom ROM before? If so which one?
Do you think it is worth the hassle of changing to the new ROM?
I'm in a strong 4G area so I rarely have issues with switching between 3g/4g.
How is the GPS on the new release? The one I've got in Humble 5 sucks. H 4.o's was okay, but nothing I do seems to give me a quick, accurate lock in GPS.
I noticed Infinity released a ROM based on the EP4D, How does that compare to Humble?
Should I wait for Danalo to release a EP4D version of Humble or switch now?
Thanks for any thoughts on this.

I can recommend the 1204 release of Infinity. It's a pretty sweet looking and very quick rom. It doesn't have TSM parts in it yet, so if you're like me and like Infinity but not TSM, this is the perfect time to grab it.

I am still running GummyCharged Froyo 2.0 and Imoseyon's Kernel with GO LAUNCHER EX and its 100% stable.. Over clocked to 1,200 mhz.. And running the EP4 radios.. with 4G in my area.. I ain't going to Ginger on this phone.. waiting out the "Push" of the stock 2.3.6 from Samsung as we speak.. (2wks til it stops according to Verizon..) I will never give up Froyo and this ROM / KERNEL COMBO on this phone...

When you say "waiting out the "Push"", what are you referring to? Kernel source? Thanks

Hello.. No.. I was told when I called Verizon to see if they could stop the push to my phone that Samsung is the one pushing the update out.. and they are going to push it for another 10 days or so.. I am Hitting "Update Later" until the push is over on my phone because the GummyCharged Froyo 2.0 Rom Runs 100% Stable & Smooth for me along with Go Launcher Ex.. I have no desire to mess things up with the Gingerbread Update when I would get zero benifits out of it..

[Q] Difference between Gingerbread leak and CM7

What is the difference between the TB Gingerbread leak and CM7? It is my understanding that the Gingerbread leak is Sense while CM7 is AOSP. Are there any other differences? For those who have flashed both which do you prefer?

Forgive my sounding ass-holish, but that's about as different as it gets.
I'm personally a Sense man, as I love HTC's integration, but CM has it's place as well. I flashed the leak, and other than awful battery life, I'm loving it.
It should be stated though, awful it relative. I flashed BAMF 10 minutes after leaving the store, so I have no idea if it's better or worse than stock.
You seem to imply you bought the phone with gingerbread. That cannot be true.

Of course I have to differ with the other guy.
Technichally they are now both the "same" as both run android 2.3.4. The difference is CM7 is stock android while sense gingerbread is what HTC thinks android should look and feel. So try both and stick with what you like.

While I am happy to see the GB leak come out, keep in mind that neither it nor CM7 are fully developed for the TB yet. There are issues with both, and the performance of the Froyo roms is still superior at this point.
With my D1, when I switched to GB it gave me significant boosts to performance and battery life. I hope to see the same for TB eventually.
For now BAMF with lean kernel is a tremendous combo.

+1 - Going to totally agree here. At least until BAMF comes out with a build off of GB, then I will make the switch. I have messed with both and I don't like to make sacrifices (camera, data in some cases, etc) so I am sticking with the current Froyo roms.
since i can't post in the dev forum yet, will the GB radios brick CM7?

gotcha. hard to keep track of the pace of those threads. i'm sure it was mentioned. so flash rom, and then load froyo radios?
Sense and CM7 are worlds apart... the only common denominator is the base version of Android... thankfully.
Wanted sense 3.0 but 2.1 is doing just fine. And battery life for me on the leak isn't that bad either. And I've tried all roms, kernel combos there is

I agree with you regarding the GINGER-leak and CM7 based on 2.3.4. My testing yesterday (of gingerjane 1.2) reveled beside the obvious camera bug much slower LTE speeds (like at least 5x slower). Both of those are serious enough to make me go back to Froyo until bugs are worked out. And I am sure there are other bugs. The TB is my primary phone and I need a fully working one.
Anyone has noticed much slower LTE speeds with 2.3.4, perhaps due to the new radios? The speed was below 2 mbps download, when I get 12-22 mbps at home with the last OTA radios and froyo.

[Q] Fav Rom in your opinion

So i am currently running eagles blood and love it, super smooth, love the black. Havnt found any other glitches yet. Props to creator. What are some other good roms our there
Before the g2x I had a vibrant and ONLY ran Team Whiskey built ROM's because they were always the quickest and most reliable. When I first got my g2x I saw krylon running around the g2x forums and was very excited to see what he will do. My wife is STILL running Bionix on my old vibrant and I am also running Bionix on the g2x. Battery is a lot better, black theme is very nice, phone is super snappy, and I have NO problems with Bionix.
I have tried pretty much all the gb rom's out there and fauxs aosp 1.1.5 gb rom has been the most stable and smooth build I've used... with his custom kernel the thing is buttery smooth and fast with an oc of 1.5ghz if you want it super fast ... plus its a nice stock gb build with no extra stuff which I prefer ...
right now I'm running Bionix.
It's hard to say anything about one being better/worse than another right now, since they're all still in beta form. Let's get some final releases out, or at least an official gingerbread leak to compare against, before judging anything too harshly. And I'm not trying to say they should rush...just that we should expect some glitches
Here is my opinion.
None is better then the other for the fact that they are all built off the same source. If you look at the change logs for all roms right now it is mostly visual things changed with few backend things. (minus cm7 as they built their own)
Anyways give the devs more time to get more actual development done then compare them.
Stock Rom because it's more stable than any of the custom roms at this point. Every thread I've been reading people are having a lot of issues that's why I haven't flashed yet. Waiting for stable build from official source

Not quite true.
stock has almost all the issues and more then most the modded roms.
The reason you see more people complain about the issues on the modded roms is cause ALOT more people are using them over stock as it is junk.
EB1.04 Froyo. Used with included kernel and just a couple of tweaks here and there. Better than stock, LG camera, no GB issues. I get great battery life and speed with it. I'm not looking for a Quadrant record holder...just something that does what I want it to do when asked.
Now for the moderator in me:
These types of threads have the potential to invite flame wars. Keep this thread civil and helpful so it remains open. Thank your for your cooperation.
I've tried a lot of roms but settled with EB 1.0.4 because it feels like a stock rom but without the resets I kept having the with leaked version. The GB keyboard lags some but its nothing.
CM7 is really coming around but I'm going to hold off until they fix the APN settings. I've used CM since the first nightly and started looking elsewhere after #21. I'm looking to just relax with a working rom ATM.
As far as the various roms, they aren't all based on the same source. CM uses a CM base and their own kernel, EB uses the GB leak, and a few others are from AOSP directly from Google. Lots of variation. I agree that we should wait till we get some final builds until we compare but I think this thread is good for people to know because I've been using CM since it came out and when it came time to find something more stable I couldn't find which ones worked or which ones had which bugs.

I'm a Team Whiskey fan coming from the Vibrant so Bionix is my first choice, But Eagle's Blood 1.0.4 FR is also really good and in fact I'm running right now because it's still 2.2 so it has stock camera which is great!
Once Krylon gets the camera working on 2.3 I will go back to Bionix!
Haven't tried any others because of the APN issues!

No issues on Bionix.
I've played with all roms.
Latest was Bionix. It suffered some miserable battery drain with this rom. I gave it a few days play, with plenty of idle and game time. I'll say it is very snappy, however I couldn't accept going from 100-under 50 overnight idle while I slept.
Great rom and I will try again.
I'm gonna try EagleBlood 1.04 here in a few minutes, as it's gotten some decent mentions throughout the forums.
oh and btw, faux's aosp 1.1.5 got rid of any lag on the keyboard which i think no other rom has been able to fix on a gb rom

I wish they had a froyo version, cause I hate the jerky browser in gingerbread....
yea man i gotta say def eb 1.04 froyo is what is best rite now ive tried all of them and dont get me wrong bionix is the **** and faux did get rid of the keyboard lag and thats a big thing with these tgingerbread roms for some reason but yes all great roms but eb froyo 1.04 is sick got this extra keyboard by lg which i love and the stock cam also butter smooth but when running a oc kernel im having problems with my phone being on charger and it dying and not turning back on n having to do a battery pull so im just keeping it stock and love it still very fast!
The best ROM for me has been EB Froyo 1.04 and Morfic kernel is running great.
I have flashed nightlies, bionix, GB leak, and eb 1.02 and 1.04.
EB Froyo seems to be the most stable and just works for me.

I'm using the stock kernel. I tried the first morfic kernel for the build, and it was very unstable for me. Planning on giving the +48mb version a shot in the future, but stock works so well for me (speed+battery life), it'll be hard to justify a switch.

[Q] Droid Charge Roms

I want to know if I will be able to use a Samsung Fascinate rom (MIUI) on my Droid Charge. I dont live in a 4g area, so if the 4g didn't work, i wouldn't miss anything. Does anyone have any good rom recommendations aside from GummyCharged 1.9 (which i just installed)?

no, you cannot use a fascinate rom on the charge, its not as simple as 4g just wont work
That's what I figured... I really hoped that it would since MIUI isn't out for the charge.
I highly recommend Humble ROM. Wait till Friday though for the update with many good fixes. Humble is the best ROM imo currently for the Charge.

miui on lte phones wont be that easy as the miui developers have said since there is no 4g in china currently they wont be building into miui releases...therefore it has to be built in by devs here, which is i would think a monumental task...so it might be 3g only for awhile...but idk
Well I saw on Miui.us forums that a dev just got the droid charge, so hopefully we will see a miui rom here soon

Im using Gummcharged GBE 1.5, and I'm happier with it than I was with CM7 on my OG Droid. Its smooth, fast, and everything works.
I was on the debloated gingerbread leak for a week, but I just can't stand TW. I like the look of AOSP better, even if theres still a little TW mixed in.
I dunno man, I am on the GB leak running Eclipse and the TW experience isn't too bad @ all... Infact, I really like it!

Don't forget about Hellraiser, which allows you to run I9000,Captivate and possibly Vibrant roms also(only been tested on I9000 and Captivate Roms).Try'em all til you find your flavor.
And I would not say they are better than Infused or worse. Everybody has a favorite.
Hell, the jk2 leak is running great for me. I mean almost a day and a half battery life, fast, don't need any hacks or work arounds. All the other options bigfau mentioned I've tried, I like speed and stability and this is just what's best for me.

Cryogenic mod 7 for me. It's very fast, stable, customizable and works with the wii mote/ps3 controller. Only downside is the normal bluetooth a2dp doesn't work yet. I was on rogers stock gb, but cm7 is better for sure

does it work well with music streaming apps?
I used vevo and youtube no problem, so Pandora and other music streaming must work just as well.
I guess I'm confused as to the point of the original question. Infused hasn't been updated in a month, so you're wanting an alternative? Is that right?
Given that AT&T hasn't released an official Gingerbread ROM (and we're lucky that Rogers did), and the official ROMs are generally the source of custom ROMs, it's really no shock that a) there aren't more custom ROMs for the Infuse and b) Infused hasn't been updated in a month. However, just because it hasn't been updated doesn't mean it's outdated. That's important to note. I mean, short of just slapping a new modem in it and putting a new version number on it, what else is there to do? (Random rhetorical question: If there was a modem added every time a leak came out, and the ROM had a new version number slapped on it, would that be enough to call it "updated" and keep you using it?)
Personally, I use CM7. I use it because I have been using it for ages on my Captivate. It's fast, bloat-free and includes what an OS should include - just the facts, ma'am. If I want anything else, I add it myself. Bluetooth obviously isn't 100% and there are other quirks that pop up from time to time, but it's something I'm willing to deal with and I think the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. YMMV, of course.
Try MIUI, you'll never look for another new ROM again

Holy moly you can do that? Ha well I recomend either dlev or cm7 the compiled version. This is because dlev is just plain cool and fast (good job big fau) and cm7 is just plain fast and awesome for the people with the need for speed. Dlev has a good blue theme, and cm7 is just endless with their themes. Dlev has everything working except hdmi of course, and cm7 does not have bluetooth and hdmi not working. I recomend either of these two roms though, as they are very stable for me, while I would actually get force closes on infused every once in a while. Oh by the way, cm7 has a newly compiled rom almost every day. Dlev is probably better for a newer flasher though. Ha miui may be good, its based off of cm7 but has an iphone like look to it.
use infused + uckj2 modem and gb kernel
If you need bluetooth for streaming audio or making phone calls (at least with a car stereo) then forget about CM7 or MiUi. Neither work for Bluetooth in this regard.
If you don't, and you like customization, then I'd start with those two ROM's first. MiUi and CM7 are totally different, but both top dogs at what they do.

If you do decide to upgrade as of now (from reading the dev thread about this new update) it looks like if you flash a custom rom after installing the new march baseband you won't be able to make phone calls. Only works with the stock LG 2.3.4. Just a warning if you were thinking of flashing a rom with the new baseband. I'm sure they will come up with a solution soon though, they always do!
I've upgraded once to ICS, and I went back immediately. Although there were times when I flashed different ICS roms from different devs, but they all seem to have the same issues, so I just stayed on GB, I'm happy with Hellfire Phoenix, really stable with Faux CM kernel at stock voltage.
I did as well, the UI wasn't worth all the technical difficulties. Went from HFS to HFP.

Can't the baseband be restored to an older one withe the GetRIL app on the Play Store?
Btw, does the release of 2.3.4 signify that we won't be getting ICS officially? I might as well abandon ICS now if we're never going to get updated drivers from Nvidia...
Sent from my AOKP G2x
no and no to put it simple.
The GetRIL app does just that get's RIL's no a baseband.
We never knew or will we know cause LG can't make up their mind it seems. Some forums have public LG moderators/employees that state that they haven't heard a thing about LG giving the G2X ICS love. On the other hand I have read places and posted here that LG's Facebook stated that they will update our phone and the European version to ICS sometime in the 2nd quarter. So it's pretty much don't hold your breath and be patient.
The fact that LG hasn't given up on updating the G2x means a lot...even though it's been EOLed, though. But, speculation is speculation.
i went back to GB, due to the camera issue. the ISC roms are great but unless LG\Nvidia releases their drivers these roms will never be perfect. another reason i went back to GB is because i like MIUI (the whole interface and the ability to record calls). cant wait for MIUI v4.

Coming off of about a month using ics roms, its nice to get back to gb because EVERYTHING WORKS! Also, pretty sure the o2x will get ics towards the middle of this year. We just have to wait for the drivers to be ported. Until then, some of us can make due without hwa, but its hard to stay away from gb for too long.
Back on MIUI for now. I themed it to look like ICS so I'm satisfied for now. Much better battery life too! But I miss the ICS multitasking still.
I really like the UI on ICS and it works well enough for me that I've just stayed on it. Went to GB for a day and decided against it. The known issues with ICS have not really been an issue for me at all.
I used and was very happy running CM7, even installed it on my girl's phone which will likely stay that way.
A few weeks ago I went to Eagleblood's most recent AOSP build and don't see myself going back to any form of GB. Yes the ICS ROMs do have their issues but so far nothing game breaking for me.
pretty new here and I never even tried an ICS ROM yet. But even as an Android semi-noob it makes sense that an ICS ROM will not be as polished as a well done GB ROM. Hoping to try one soon but the general sentiment of this thread makes me think it will be a while before I do.

They're very usable and stable enough for daily use. If the known issues don't bother you, then you'll enjoy ICS. The first ROM I flashed to my phone was an ICS ROM and I've remained on ICS since. I tried going back to GB, but ended up flashing ICS again the next day. Give it a try. If you don't like it, you can always re flash a GB ROM.
