Im trying to root my phone, but SuperOneClick keeps becoming unresponsive, which also ends up freezing my phone.
Ive seen someone else with this problem but they fixed it. Anyone know how they did it?
Mine did that, too. I killed it, restarted it, and let it take it's time. that was with SOC 2.2

Sorry, yes, KJ6 is the official Gingerbread update. Not sure why it keeps crashing. One thing I did forget to mention was I had to disable virus software completely in order to run it.

Update to one of the rooted ROMs. I've been running Fresh 3.1.0.2 for a while now with great success. The Netarchy kernel makes it even better. Just be sure to flash the ROM first then the kernel, if you decide to run a custom kernel.

You don't ever take anything over the air front Sprint or HTC. Download a froyo rom from here...then flash it like you flashed when you rooted the phone...then flash the radios the same way.
It sounds like you have some more reading to do.

i actually tried taking the ota then, it would downlaod, but would not install, just ended up a few times and the droid and a triangle with the exclamation point in it, did that a few times and said forget it, found a rom to flash that was done by netarchy with the HTC ota final build, and it worked perfect, so i'm happy with the outcome.

fortunately i have full root now since the new way came out! so uh yeah.
Just finished installing the official 2.2 release on my Captivate (problem free). Before installing I backed up everything to my SD card via titanium, then removed the lag fix, and did a hard reset / format using the dialer code, verified everything was wiped and all the internal storage was wiped clean (although MCR scripts and superuser didn't go away).
first reaction, THE LAG IS HORRIBLE. hoping it was a result of crapware, I rooted via SuperOneClick, reinstalled Titanium from the market, and removed all the ATT crapware, rebooted, and it is no better.
I've restored my apps and everything except facebook contact syncing seems to be working great, but the lag is awful! often I wait 3, sometimes 5 seconds before a screen click is even recognized.
are there any lag fixes that have been tested on, or at least suggested for the official 2.2 release?

I assume you are referring to the one used on 2.1, I don't remember the name, but it used MCR Scripts and was installed with an update.zip. once installed you ran MCR Scripts and "installed" the lag fix with 2 options, either 512mb or 1gb of space, and a third option to remove the lagfix
I ran the remove option before doing the upgrade

That was solved months ago. Go to the dev section, download the 5.x voodoo + stock KB1 kernel odin file, and flash it on. Phone will take a while to boot back up, but will tell you it is converting partitions to ext4. Once it comes back, you will see the amazing speedup from getting rid of the piece of **** known as RFS.
Is there anyway I can get lagfix by itself? I have no computer so id just like to download to phone, put in root and goto recovery mode.

Froyo uses 3e recovery I believe so it will not install any update.zips the only way I know of is using an alternate recovery...a kernel with 2e recovery or going the custom rom route like torch 1.5 or cog 4 in the dev section which use the new froyo
And for your no computer issue...i suggest you find mcdonalds or a neighbor and use the wifi and download one of those custom roms directly to your phone that have a lagfix included with root and no bloat. I do this all the time when I am in the field. Just some suggestions I hole they help and I understand your frustration.

I installed the myverizon.apk file in this link and the app comes up but then I get a "Update" or "Cancel" prompt. Update takes you to the market and installs the app which will then cause the error again, and cancel simply closes the app.
PS. I could've sworn this said that it worked for 300 error, but now that I read it again, it says 305. I thought I saw something that said to try installing the VzwSigSSOEngine.apk, so maybe that was how I ended up getting there...
Either way, link is below. Let us know if you figure something out...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113323
Installing only the VZWsigSSOEngine.apk will prevent only one of the errors, but may still cause the other error. You need to install 4 files (within /system/app/), which I've included below. Then grab My Verizon from the android market. I tested this on 4 different roms on Froyo. Haven't tried it on Gingerbread. Seems to work, even on debloated rom too.

Try redownloading and running gtg's ultimate unbrick again. Could have been something as simple as a bad download or a bad flash. If its not that, THEN would be the time to start asking questions. Bad flashes are more common than you might think.

soc is short for superoneclick (or system on a chip or many other things but i was talking about superone click) anyway you need the newwest version of super one click to root android 2.3.3 and up. i believe it is version 2.2
i havent tried it but i hear it takes a while. you could also bypass that and flash a kernel with root through heimdall. it's a bit like odin but doesnt flsh .tar archives. it flashes the raw images (zimage for the kernel) so you have to extract the zimage out of a .zip file. you could also make your own odin package but that means you shoud be doing it in a terminal window(look up cygwin, or install linux or borrow a mac). though archive managers like win rar and 7zip can work i have had issues doing it in windows (as well as success but dont want to risk it)

I did the first step and sure enough it returned the phone to stock. I've been using Serendipity VII and thought I'd try this return to stock to see if my HDMI would work. It sure has the touch and feel of stock firmware, yet shows it's Android version 2.3.6 I mean it's got all the ATT bloatware, Samsung apps, the works. I go into settings and can't find TV out in the Display settings like Serendipity (could find the button but it didn't work) now that I'm "stock" I can't find the button! LOL
Where I am at this point is reading the stuff about getting root again as I have no superuser icon anymore.
Not sure if I should proceed to step two, looks to be fairly recent material...

Ok I did that but am reluctant to proceed after all the reading I did. I have a usuable handset still but the battery life sucks compared to S7 and still don't have HDMI, anyone have experience on what happens if you do the second step? It says you can get CWM and flash (I'm ready to flash back to Serendipity) but I don't see where it gives you root and I'm chicken to click it thru and try, been reading...
