Alright so since September, I have been active on this Infuse forum and asked tons of questions in order to accomplish what I needed. I went from stock and thinking that it was an amazing phone and platform, to rooting and finding out how much better it is.
I know there a lot of people from Rogers here in Canada who had trouble getting started, so I’m going to help them get started with the root, but after that this guide is for anyone that it applies to
The main thing that kinda sucked about the Infuse for me was that my sms would show up in my call log… and I couldn’t get rid of that. So I rooted.

Rooting
The whole process is kind of long and if you don’t know what you are doing, it could result in that 450$ phone becoming a paperweight. Anyways I will start with explaining how to root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1197248
That link is the guide I used. It is by gtg656x. It really isn’t that bad
1) Plug in your device to a computer and put your device into mass storage mode, then press connect storage to pc. If you have the drivers, all should be good and it will open all good. If not, download what I think is the WORST program ever, Samsung Kies. Then go up to tools>Resolution Connection Errors. It takes a bit of time to finish and might come up with an error. But for me even when it did that, it worked for me.
2) Open the app “My Files” and make a folder called Voodoo. Do this by pressing the menu button (the one to the left of home at the bottom below the screen) and press the one that says Create Folder). Inside that one, make one that named disable-lagfix.
3) Download the file Odin_Infused_Gingerbread_Kernel_v1.zip and extract it to your desktop with a program such as 7zip or Winrar.
4) Now open the program called Odin3_v1.81.exe as administrator.
5) Now with Odin open, put your phone into dl mode. Do this by removing battery and replacing it, then press and hold both volume buttons for 5 seconds, and while still holding, plug in your usb cable which should be going to your computer, then release when you see the screen with all the yellow writing.
6) Press on the up volume button and you should be in download mode. In Odin, your phone should up as COM with 2 numbers at the end.
7) Click on PDA, and put in PDA_Infused_Gingerbread_Kernel_v1.tar.md5 as the file.
8) Press start.
When it’s all done, and your phone is booted up, you will see a new app called super user in your app drawer. If you do, you are now rooted.
If your phone doesn’t boot up, try taking out the battery and replacing it and then boot up again.
CWM+Roms
This part is now for anyone with an Infuse.
You might want to put on a Rom now. In the last few weeks, there have been a ton of Roms being released for us. 2 that stand out for me are Numas and CatyRom. They were made initially for us.

Use this thread for anything, it’s our super thread with everything from roms, to unbricks, to all of our roms, to modems and kernels. A lot of this stuff you don’t really need to worry about, at least yet. Now pick your Rom. At first I used Infused. That helped the sms problem and it was pretty fast and simple, I could even put on a kernel. We only have a couple, but they are both good in their own way. I will explain them later. So really every rom is good in it’s own way. If you want something that changes things like how your Dialer, drop-down menu and and settings menu looks, there are A bunch of them. If you want just regular stuff and stock, then you can try some stock roms as well… it’s all about personal preference.

I would like to do a guide for every rom, but really, it’s not needed. What I will do to help is give you some pointers.
Pretty much everything can be flashed with CWM mode. You get to this by powering down your phone completely, and then pressing and holding both volume buttons and the power button simultaneously for 10 seconds. For me, I just hold them until I see the Rogers/AT&T screen comes up the second time. (Carrier screen, Samsung screen, black screen, Carrier screen, release all) Now was a few seconds and you should see a red screen. This is CWM mode, or ClockWork Mod. You navigate up and down using your volume buttons, and you select things using the power button.

Most of the new Roms are bought from another device and configured to be able to work on ours… For this I thank the people who ported the stuff over. Nowadays installation for roms is typically the same, except for CM7 and MIUI. I haven’t touched those but I will explain installation for all of the others, which I the same.
1. Download the version you want(usually the most recent, as they probably release newer versions for upgrades)
2. I like to make a folder called Zips and put anything I would install using CWM here. You may do this, otherwise just put it onto your INTERNAL SD card. If you see a folder called exernal_sd, then you are in you internal sd card.
3. Make sure you have made a back up of anything you wanted. Contacts, apps+data and settings are all wiped. Conctacts can be synced with google, imported onto an external sd card, or backed up using some apps. Apps can be backed up with data using Titanium backup. Honestly that app can back up pretty much everything. Go to the guide below and I will explain everything I know about it. If you have stuff you can’t afford to lose, go read that now for precaution. I don’t really back up settings because there isn’t much to back up.
4. Shut down your phone and boot into CWM mode like I explained above.
5. No you have to wipe 3 things
a. Data- Go down and select “Wipe Data/Factory Reset” then select yes
b. Cache- Go down and select “Wipe Cache Partition” then select yes
c. Davlik Cache – Go down and select “Advanced”, then select “Wipe Davlik Cache” and then yes
6. Now once you do this, you can flash your ROM and greatly reduce issues associated with it
7. So go back (go to the bottom and select “go back”) and go down and select “install zip from sd card”.
8. Go down and select “choose from sd card”. I don’t know where on your sd card you copied the ROM to, but select it now, and select yes of course. Now when it finishes installation, you can go back and choose “reboot system now”
You just flashed a ROM… Good Job You probably want to restore all of your apps and data… when you use titanium backup, make sure you only choose “Restore missing apps with data” You might not know what that means till you see it or read the titanium backup guide.
Some things you probably want to do to make sure everything runs right:

- Install Busybox. I don’t know what it does, but it is needed sometimes. Go to market and search for it. Install the first one. When you open it, you don’t NEED to fill out that forum that you might get. I didn’t haha. Go through this, allow all superuser permissions, but when it says choose where you want to install busybox, make sure you change the location from the default to /system/bin. Now the rest is easy, but read everything to make sure it doesn’t screw up.
- Update superuser. Go to market and search for it. Then go to update if it is there. Once updated, open it up and select the menu key. Go to preferences and go to the bottom. Choose Su binary and if after all that text it says your version is outdated or anything (whatever is after the equal sign will be red on the 3rd line) once it is updated, you are good.

Tibu
Now for Titanium Backup
Titanium Backup
This app is amazing… it always restores everything so easily and I have not had any problems that were because of this app.
To backup apps.
Open app and go over to Backup/Restore. Press the menu key and press Batch. It will calculate scenarios, so let it do that for a few seconds and then you will see a bunch off different options. If you want to back up your apps and data, then run the 3rd one – Backup all user apps + system data. When this is done, it will be on your internal SD card under Titanium Backup(who would’ve known). It will be in the forum of a whole bunch of Zip archives and properties files. Backup your files to a few different locations. External SD card, your computer or dropbox. I use my computer as it is easiest. Open up mass storage and copy that folder with all these files to somewhere on your computer. Done.
Another thing you can do after you backed up all of you're apps the first time and if you have to make an updated backup, is choose the option "Backup Modified Data". This will keep all of your files up to date, and if you it wasn't touched, it will skip it. This helps especially well when you have over 100 apps and don't want to do another complete backup. I have about 110 apps to restore when i am setting up, and choosing that option gets the backup updated in about a minute, as opposed to 5.

To restore apps
If you just did the wipes do install your ROM, then all the backups are still there. If not, then just recopy that folder into Titanium backup. You will have to reinstall it now before you can restore everything. When you reopen it, go back to Backup/Restore, select batch again, but this time, select under Restore (blue), Restore missing apps with data. Never restore system apps or data… Just select what I mentioned above. If you bought the pro/donate version, you can leave it to go, otherwise you have to select install for everything. Once it’s all done, you should have everything back to normal… even your home screen from the launcher you choose would be back, although some widgets might say Problem Loading Widget, and you would have to re add it, but still it’s back for the most part.

Notes:
- You can talk to alot of people, and they might say different things. Some might say don't restore any data period. I just dont bother with system apps or data aside from a few things. Again I must say, NEVER restore system apps or data... With the exception of the things in green. Only thing that I have restored from system data is contacts.
You do this by going to Backup/Restore and scrolling down and clicking on Contacts Storage... It should be in Green which was done by TiBu to apps that are useful... After tapping on it click restore and then DATA ONLY... Restoring the app can cause all kinds of problems, as with all system apps or data excluding what I had mentioned. After restoring the data, reboot and all should be good.
Click to collapse
-One thing I have found is that sometimes Titanium Backup restores apps to your internal SD card if your ROM allows it... I haven't figured out how to stop that, but i will make a note if I do. The reason I am mentioning this is because if an app such as power amp or shazam is on your internal SD, you will not be able to add their widgets.
What you can do after the restore is go to: Settings>Applications>Manage applications>On SD card and then find the apps you want to add as widgets and click on them... Then click on Move to phone. You do have to do this individually, or you can try using some apps to do that. I have tried that but can never figure them out.
If someone would like to teach me this, that would be great Just send me a pm and i will give you credit in my guide

Hey joeym,
I'm not sure if you can help me, but I noticed you had the same problem with MMS as I have, so I thought I'd see if you had found a solution??
I just rooted my Rogers Samsung Infuse 4G and flashed the compiled nightly (mine is from April 9, 2012) CM7 ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1400375). I am unable to retrieve my MMS messages now. I checked my APN settings, they are as follows:
APN: rogers-core-appl1.apn
Proxy: <not set>
Port: <not set>
Username: <not set>
Password: <not set>
Server: <not set>
MMSC: http://mms.gprs.rogers.com
MMS Proxy: 10.128.1.69
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 302 (retrieved from SIM)
MNC: 720 (retrieved from SIM).
Authentication type: <not set>
APN type: <not set>
APN protocol: IPv4
I'm not sure if this would help, but just a little more info in case:
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #8
Mod version: CyanogenMod-7.2.0-RC0-Infuse4G-KANG
Build number: GWK74
Any help would be much, much appreciated! I have tried my best to search out the answer independently, but I thought if you had found a solution, maybe I could try it out with my phone!
Thanks again!!!

I have yet to be able to send or receive mms yet on any cm7, which really sucks cause i have pictures i want to send out... If I see anything that would fix it, i will message you to check this thread though.
Bluetooth
Hi joeym11,
Thank you for your very detailed and easy to understand process descriptions. I had already been walked through the root and loading CM7 but the follow through from you on TB, SU, and BB were very helpful. Have you been able to get the Bluetooth working on your Infuse, and if so, how. My son says his works to a degree, but he does not know what he did to get it to work and I really miss my BT, but I love the tethering that I now have.
Thanks,
Gary
Unfortunately, BT on any CM7 for us may never work. From what I have read, it is due to the hardware on the device. Trust me if there was a way for having BT, it would be here by now because I myself want it as well. Apparently CM7 has it semi working. When I tried it, it would pair fine but you couldn't actually use it because it wouldn't actually connect. If I find anything I will tell you

Insaincain (For the nv items. You are a legend, and credit is due where credit is due**AS read from SyZtyM)
Admin (For all sites. PERIOD)
You will need:
1. CDMA WS 2.7 (google)
2.Harware Virtural Serial Port this is the demo good for 14days
3. Motorola A855 USB drivers (These are the 32bit Drivers)
4. Cyanogen Mod Rom from Rom Manager in market
5. SPRecovery
6&7.Autostart.sh & U2nl from whitrabbit.org (thanks to whiterabbit). Save autostart.sh and U2nl in C:\android\tools\.
8.download Autostart (Root) from Market
9. NV items from http://www.whiterabbit.org/android (u must generate this uniquely with you [email protected] i have included a generated [email protected] for sample or to replace x's with you MDN
Step 1. First step is to make sure you have the drivers installed on your computer, and you also need to have Android SDK installed on your computer.
You will need to root the phone, key here is to make sure the kernel you load supports iptables.
Step 2. if you need to ROOT: follow the guide
than download Rom manager over wifi from MARKET, proceed to flash clockwork and download and install cyanogen 5.xx rom, and google apps..wipe data etc.
Step 2.1 if first fails. get RSD Lite 4.6 (google), Power on phone holding down the up arrow and pressing power, this will put you into bootloader mode.
Open RSD Lite 4.6
Flash the SPRecovery_ESE81.sbf file with RSD Lite.
this should just flash the recovery if not download a rom like SMOKEDGLASS unzip and put in folder on SD named Nandroid
Once the phone is completely rebooted into rooted android, power it off.
alternately u can install BuglessBeast froyo v 02.1 from alldroid.org then skip to these steps below
Hold down “T” on the keypad and power on phone.
Plug into computer and open HW Virtual Serial Port (your drivers should install and connect etc)
In HWVS set the IP address to 192.168.16.2 and the port to 11008, choose the com port 10 click connect. (For this tutorial we will use COM10)
Open CDMA WS 2.7 and (go to settings tab and deselect NV Enabled) then connect to COM10. if you dont deselect you will get PHONE FAILED ERRORS
On security tab send SPC 000000. (msg says phone accepts blah blah blah
Go to tab labeled “Other” and write prl. For Cricket EVDO, 6499(new service plan) and 38515 is recommended.
Go to NAM and enter MIN ex. 615-555-5593 (usually different from your actual phone# and MDN(your mobile number ex. 615-555-5551 and click write.
Goto “Memory” tab and click write under NV items, find the downloaded NV items you got from here
for example you must generate the NV items by inputing your MDN([email protected]). box opens telling you to save them as .txt and select them with cdma 2.7. (Thanks again to insanecain)
It should then say, 12 NV items were successfully written to phone.
Go to Main tab and click mode reset.
You can now close HWVS and CDMA WS and open cmd.exe on your computer.
if you have QPST open it on the com port 10 read your settings. under MIP mip2,,PPP(Um,AN...etc it should say [email protected] etc in the right columns....in the bottom box password may need to be written to phone, just type in cricket for both Um and An, cricket is the password.
Also select mobile ip+simple ip under MiP tab
select write to phone
Once phone reboots go to the market using WI-FI and download and install Autostart root required
Open the Voice Dialer on the phone and say “Open APNs” and click open.
Click on the Verizon and edit everything to match below:
Name - Cricket
APN internet
Proxy wap.mycricket.com:8080
Port 8080
Username [email protected]
Password cricket
Server wap.mycricket.com
MMSC http://mms.mycricket.com/servlets/mms
MMS Proxy wap.mycricket.com
MMS Port 8080
MCC 310
MNC 004
Authentication Type PAP or CHAP
APN type <Not set>
Now click the menu button and click Save.
Before starting the next step make sure you have the u2nl file in your this folder c:/android/tools and also that you have you autostart.sh file in this folder c:/
Now go to command prompt and type the following commands,
cd c:\android\tools
adb shell
mkdir /data/opt/
exit
adb remount
adb push c:\android\tools\u2nl /system/bin/u2nl
adb push c:\android\tools\autostart.sh /data/opt/autostart.sh
Now:
adb shell
chmod 0755 /system/bin/u2nl
chmod 0755 /data/opt/autostart.sh
adb reboot
Now, once your phone has rebooted, you should have working web, mms, app, gps, and all. If you don’t go back and check all the steps to insure you did everything exactly right.
thanks everyone for reading.

from my understanding, cdma networks calls and text dont go through data connections, so when u place a call it will switch only to bars and no 1x/3g.
MMS and web will only work when not connected to a call ( i think thats what your stating??) ive never had a problem with data connection not coming back to phone after a call.... hopefully i answered your questions? and gps shouldnt be bothered at all that may be a rom issue. try a few roms other that bugless beast thats basically a stock ROM look into lithium mod or Chevyno1

Also select mobile ip+simple ip under MiP tab
select write to phone""
i have downloaded cdma 2.7, nothing was stated about qpst in the necessary tools but i downloaded that too afterwards, and its not clear where i should go at this point after the initial reboot. are these directions for cdma2.7 or qpst? help???

hello, lets see i believe this was originally the instructions to get the data working. so you needed QPST to enter in the passcode "cricket"....it just depends what rom you have. if you flash a rom and your data doesnt work then u will have to enter those settings in qpst. after entering those your data should work.

Hello sorry in advanced for the newbie question. My Moto Droid is already flashed to cricket. If I wanted to manually install 2.2 would I have to start with all steps or just from the 2.2 install?

you should be fine with the NV items. after you flash 2.2 dial 611 (you may need to reflash PRL, and then from there i would give your phone about a 2minutes to see if any 1x/3g show up. if not commence with the instructions lol.

thanks for the reply, well i had all but given up on my droid dreams and i figured out on my own that they were QPST directions but were missing this important piece. QPST 2.7 WITH A OLDER BUILD LIKE 264 WILL NOT CONFIGURE THE DROID,IT GIVES AND ONLINE ERROR. YOU SHOULD USE AN UPDATED VERSION. I ENDED UP FINDING 2.7 BUILD 323.
Also. its unclear as to why in the adb commands we have
adb push c:\android\tools\autostart.sh /data/opt/autostart.sh
Now:
adb shell
it may be obvious to some but if Now: is an actual command it wouldnt work. so im assuming it isnt, and pretty much adb after that point is irreconcilable.
no matter what the droid never left the verizon network needless to say, and i havent recieved any input as to where i could have gone wrong, everything else was flawless up until the Now: part basically then i had to piece together adb. even tried without the now part and didnt succeed.
i did this and everything works. only problems is it 1x all the time; how to i get 3g?

This is the Q&A thread for gtg465x's Infused ROM series.
Please be mindful and respectful when posting questions.
Original ROM thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195571
It would be beneficial to provide details and specifics so that your question can be answered effectively.
I will try to keep the thread updated but cannot guarantee, so if anyone would like to help, let me know.
The following is copied from GTG's OP for the Infused ROM
READ CAREFULLY - NEED TO KNOW INFORMATION:
Updated 8/7 @ 1:00PM
1) Do NOT install Beta 1 and 2 themes on Beta 3 and newer! THEY WILL NOT WORK!
2) Do NOT restore system data with Titanium Backup. Do NOT restore ALL apps with data. If you absolutely must restore something with Titanium Backup, only restore MISSING apps with data.
Tips and answers to common questions
Updated 8/5 @ 8:00PM
1) Animations are disabled by default. Enable them by going to Settings > Display > Animation and selecting "All Animations". If you don't do this, you won't see the CRT screen off animation!
2) If your GPS isn't locking, try this: Go to the phone app and dial *#*#3214789650#*#*. The Angry GPS configuration app will open. Clear GPS data and back out. It may help to reboot after doing that as well.
3) If the power widget isn't working and shows no icons, simply toggling something like GPS in the notification pulldown will fix it. This doesn't seem to be something I caused, but rather a bug in the Rogers shipping ROM. I believe a lot of Galaxy S Gingerbread builds have this problem as well, so it's a Samsung trademark.
Installing from AT&T/Rogers stock, Infused v1, or Infused V2 BETA 1:
Updated 8/7 @ 1:00PM - Clarifications
1) You must be rooted.
2) If you have a /Voodoo folder on your internal SD card, delete it and reboot.
3) If you're already running a custom ROM with Voodoo lagfix FULLY enabled, you can skip to step 7.
4) Download CWM-community-kernel-v8.zip if you're on Froyo or CWM-infused-v2.0.1-kernel.zip if you're on Gingerbread and place it on your internal SD card.
5) Install SGS Kernel Flasher from the Market.
6) Open SGS Kernel Flasher, select choose kernel, select the file you downloaded, and select flash kernel. Your phone will reboot and begin to enable Voodoo lagfix. Let it do that and boot all the way up. It will take a while (5-10 minutes) because it's converting all partitions to ext4.
7) If you're on Froyo, you must now install a file explorer like Root Explorer from the Market and use it to delete the file /system/bin/recovery. You will need to hit the "Mount R/W" button in Root Explorer before it will let you delete it. I can't stress this enough... you MUST MUST MUST delete that file before continuing or else you will get boot loops!
8) Now install ROM Manager from the Market and open it.
9) Select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" and choose "Galaxy S i9000".
10) Now go to "Download ROM", select my section (gtg465x), select the latest Infused V2 release, and hit the download button.
11) At the "Installation Type" prompt, select full.
12) Select the addons you wish to install and then wait for ROM Manager to download the ROM. There is a note at the bottom of this post about which addons are not compatible with each other.
13) When you get to the "ROM Pre-Installation" prompt, you MUST check "Wipe Data and Cache" unless you're coming from Infused V2 BETA 1.
14) Press OK. Your phone will reboot and automatically install the ROM. Just sit back and relax.
15) Do NOT restore system data with Titanium Backup. Do NOT restore ALL apps with data. If you absolutely must restore something with Titanium Backup, only restore MISSING apps with data.
Updating from Infused v2 BETA 2, 3, or v2.0.0 Stable:
Updated 8/5
1) Install ROM Manager from the Market and open it.
2) If you aren't able to select "Download ROM", select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" and choose "Galaxy S i9000".
3) Now go to "Download ROM", select my section (gtg465x), select the latest Infused V2 release, and hit the download button.
4) At the "Installation Type" prompt, select "Full" if you're on BETA 2, select "v2.0.0 - v2.0.2 Update" if you're on BETA 3 or v2.0.0 Stable, or select "v2.0.1 - v2.0.2 Update" if you're on... you guessed it... v2.0.1.
5) Select the addons you wish to install and then wait for ROM Manager to download the update. There is a note at the bottom of this post about which addons are not compatible with each other.
6) When you get to the "ROM Pre-Installation" prompt, you can uncheck "Wipe Dalvik Cache" and press OK.
7) Your phone will reboot and automatically install the update. Just sit back and relax.
Installing addons:
Updated 8/5
1) Install ROM Manager from the Market and open it.
2) Select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" and choose "Galaxy S i9000".
3) Now go to "Download ROM", select my section (gtg465x), select the latest Infused V2 release, and hit the download button.
4) At the "Installation Type" prompt, select "Addons only".
5) Select the addons you wish to install and then wait for ROM Manager to download them. There is a note at the bottom of this post about which addons are not compatible with each other.
6) When you get to the "ROM Pre-Installation" prompt, you can uncheck "Wipe Dalvik Cache" and press OK.
7) Your phone will reboot and automatically install the addons. Just sit back and relax.
Known issues: (yes, we are working on these)
-No HDMI support. It was not present in the Rogers base ROM.
-The default lockscreen is a bit laggy. Again, the Rogers base ROM shipped this way. Use the AOSP lockscreen addon or WidgetLocker if you can't stand it.
Note about addons: The only overscroll addon that is compatible with "Disable CM7 style battery w/ percent" is "Change overscroll from bounce to glow (AOSP yellow)", and for that to work you need to flash "Change overscroll from bounce to glow (AOSP yellow)" first. "Change overscroll from bounce to glow (Samsung blue)" and "Disable all overscroll effects" will not work with "Disable CM7 style battery w/ percent".
Flashing from CWM
Work in progress, please let me know if steps are skewed
8) Download the most current FULL version of Infused and copy it to your internal SD card
9) Reboot into recovery by pressing both volume up and volume down and holding the power button. The phone will reboot in approximately 10 seconds. When you see the Samsung logo, release ONLY the power button. You will then be in CWM recovery
10) Select the option to” Install xip from SD card”
11) Scroll to the zip file of the ROM you downloaded
12) Press the power button to being installing the ROM. Your phone will automatically install the ROM. Just sit back and relax.
13) Select Wipe Data/Factory Reset and press OK
14) Select Wipe Dalvik Cache and press OK
15) When ROM completes the install, choose “Go Back” and then select “Reboot Device”
16) Press OK to reboot your phone. Initial boot will take some time (5-10 minutes) Do NOT pull the battery during this time.
17) Once the phone boots, let it be for about 10 minutes so it can settle in.
18) Do NOT restore system data with Titanium Backup. Do NOT restore ALL apps with data. If you absolutely must restore something with Titanium Backup, only restore MISSING apps with data.
Returning to stock using GTG's Ultimate Unbrick

FAQ
My battery drains too quickly?
Download OS Monitor and CPU Spy from the links above. Check OS Monitor to see what is using your CPU cycles. If you see Android OS is the culprit, Power down phone, pull battery, wait a few minutes, insert battery and boot phone. That should resolve (Known issue with this GB release)
My data speeds are poor
Try a different modem from the link above. Check you APN settings.
My computer will not recognize my phone
Make sure you have the proper drivers - see link above. Try a different USB port. If you are on a desktop, use a USB port that is attached to the motherboard; try the ports in back. Ports up front may not have enough power to run the device. Try a different USB cable.
How can I go back to stock?
User GTG's Ultimate Unbrick and follow the directions precisely
Which modem works the best?
Each modem will react and perform differently on each phone. Your best bet is to download them all and try them out. It's best to run it for a full day to get the full effect and make a decision.
Which kernel is the best?
Check each of the kernel threads and read the first few pages and at least the last 5 pages. It will give you what features are included in the first few pages and the last few will give you an idea of other user's experiences with the kernel. All in all, it boils down to what features you want and how it performs on your phone. You'll need to test for at least a day to get a good feel of performance.
Can I restore my apps with Titanium Backup?
Yes, but ONLY select to restore missing apps with data
Should I bump charge my battery?
Lithium-ion batteries don't like to be forced to their maximum state of charge, nor do they like being trickle-charged. It won't utterly and completely destroy your battery in short order, but it will degrade it just a little tiny bit each time.
There are, for example, studies showing that lithium-ion batteries that are kept near full charge lose around 20% capacity per year at room temperature. If kept around 40-60%, they lose 4-5%.
"topping off" right at the top is where things can go downhill really fast. - thx Entropy512
Flashing rom through cwm
Please also include instruction for flashing rom through CWM recovery and what points to be taken care of.
It would be handy to have zip file of stable version(say 2.0) and revert back to it without going through download rom in rom manager in case there occurs any problem in latest builts.

I know this might seem a little bit redundent, but judging by what im seeing on the main thread, i would think of adding a FAQ section, about how to get into clockwork via power volup and voldown, along with basictasks such as downgrading and such.
Thanks for the new tread.

I thought about the downgrading options, but left it at going back to stock since GTG doesn't have the links up at the moment. He's been pretty diligent about updates, so I figured stock and most recent would be enough. I may remove the BETA info from the OP as well since it is obsolete at this point really.
I did put steps to get to Recovery in step 9 of Flashing from CWM. If someone isn't really sure how to do that, they should probably read somewhere else and get the basics down before flashing the ROM anyway. Sorry if I sound like a dink, but I am trying to keep it pretty ROM specific and not really Android specific. Make sense? That said tho, if there is a real need from users for this info, I can add it.

right now do not have infuse with me,so can't test right now.
At ponit no.13(second post relating to cwm) I feel that one has to factory rest/wipe data and clear cache.Otherwise one may have boot loops.
Still any comment from experienced members are welsome.

BTW, there's still some discussion as to whether that APN is best. The default Froyo APN pair (we actually have dual APNs, one for internet, one for MMS/SUPL) seems to work better than the above listed one for some users. The main difference for Internet is use of the proxy. The proxy seems to kill bandwidth for some people.
This needs more testing though, but I was swapping back and forth and got significantly better results using the stock APN. I'll post that APN tonight.
The problem is that for other people, tweaked APNs are working better than stock.

I have used this APN for years and for the roms that do not have MMS Protocol just leave alone. It does not seem to make any difference in the performance. I had at one time two captivates (mine & daughters) both running different roms, one with MMS protocol and one without. I could not tell a difference.

for CWM 3e modded recovery is required but gtg's instruction does not make a reference of it.
also as he insist that one has to delete recovery file to avoid boot loops so i want to know if someone has 3e modded recovery file and backup file(old) so should one delete both files?

Coming from stock after using gtg's ultimate unbrick I have successfully reinstalled 2.0.2 by using the recovery from rom manager (i1900) then booting into recovery via adb, wipe data /factory reset, wipe cashe, advanced, wipe delvik cashe, install from sd card / choose / rom 2.0.2 then when it goes back to the green recovery which it will, I wipe cashe/factory reset a second time and I have been good to go with a fresh copy of 2.0.2. I then and only then boot back into recovery (comes up red now) and restore my nandroid of 2.0.2 that I saved earlier. Seems like a lot of redundant steps but it has worked 3 times without a hitch for me.
EDIT: Of course this is after rooting / installing 3e recovery.
Not sure this helps you but it has worked for me.....
I have not had to delete the recovery files doing it this way, so far anyway.
This is also the only way I have been able to restore a nandroid backup successfully. Every other time I have ended up in a boot loop.
infused rom
there is "experimental" built on page no.266(of infused rom thread).
Please read thoroughly the first post(page1) and gtg's post on page 266 of infused rom thread.
keep in mind that:
it is for test purpose only(tests relating to network)
and
it will wipe everything.
Edit: also do not ask for ant other release by dev or when links will be resumed as no one has answer and dev do not like if someone ask for ETA nor they respond to such questions.
Please don't ask for ETA's on the ROM. It's done when it's done. Be patient.
[ROM] T-Mobile Note Edge SM-915T NJL Rooted Stock Deodexed Knox-disabled + AT&T Info
Terms, Conditions, and Background
Please consider the following carefully before even thinking about flashing this ROM:
--I have no idea what I'm doing
--I have never done any dev work before this
--I only did this because no one else has done it
--Installing/flashing this ROM may brick or otherwise destroy/render your device useless
--By downloading, you hold me completely harmless and it's all on you!
ROM building process:
--I rooted the ROM and installed TWRP
--Deodexed the ROM (pulled the files, deodexed, created a .zip of the deodexed files, flashed the files back)
--Nandroid the ROM
--Extracted boot/kernel and system partition
--Renamed all the Knox stuff to .bak
--Built the flashable zip
--Tested flash on TWRP and CWM.
(a lot of search, trial and error on figuring out some of the steps)
This ROM DOES NOT wipe the data partition. So your setup will remain
This ROM already has the SD card write fix flashed to it
I made no other modifications
Credit to jovy23 -- I used his META-INF from Note 4.
If you choose to proceed and use the ROM after warnings above....
1) Do a full nandroid first. In fact, do two! Backup using TWRP or CWM.
2) Download the ROM and compare MD5 just to be sure
3) Flash using TWRP or CWM
4) Wipe cache and dalvik
5) Reboot and enjoy
6) If you get a bootloop, I wouldn't know why. Restore from backup.
7) If you're on ATT using the T-Mo device (like I am), once this ROM proves to work for others, I will post the AT&T-specific settings here.

Afterthoughts
--Please hit/say "Thanks" if you deem appropriate
--Please be nice. I don't know what I'm doing. I'm only sharing in case someone else want the same I do.
--If you can contribute and help improve this, I'm all ears.
--Please do not mirror, repost, or otherwise share without my permission.
--In case you're wondering, I wanted deodexed because it gives way to theming/customization. I also thought I read that Xposed requires deodexed in some cases.
--Did I miss anything?
Well, here goes nothing.... Enjoy.....

Thanks for letting me know. That is great news. Now we have something to work with....
Dirty flash should be fine since it's the same as the stock. Just be sure to clear the cache and dalvik.
Bout to root/recovery and give this a whirl. I cant stand how terrible my battery life is anymore. is this debloated? like the ATT stuff?
Edit: Wait, theres no support for the AT&T Variant in terms of root/recovery?
Great Job and Congrats!!! @snovvman Don't sell yourself short. Your contributions are very important and appreciated. I'm sure this Rom is going to inspire more conversations, ideas and development. Perhaps we'll even get a dedicated US forum soon. Its nice to see 915T getting some attention. Can't wait to give it go......

Thanks Snowman for this rom! You've got to realize your the first one to drop a rom for the T-mobile variant of the note edge. You made history! Will be testing out soon. I'll let you know the details.

Bout to root/recovery and give this a whirl. I cant stand how terrible my battery life is anymore. is this debloated? like the ATT stuff?
Edit: Wait, theres no support for the AT&T Variant in terms of root/recovery?

This is a T-Mobile stock ROM, so it has full bloat of T-Mobile. Many [of us] use T-Mobile's hardware with an AT&T SIM (and account) because of exactly what you discovered. AT&T has decided to lock the bootloader, which makes root more difficult and generally no direct/easy recovery support.
On the subject of bloat, it is easy enough for me to make a de-bloated version. We'll see how things go with the stock, and if there is enough demand, I'll produce a debloated version.
*** For me, I usually start with a full-bloat ROM and freeze/disable the apps I do not want at all, use Greenify to suspend those I use occasionally, and use Autostart to manage the rest. This way, I have full control over what runs and what doesn't. This way, if I later decide I want a bundled app, I simply re-enable it rather than having to look for the APK.

Cheers. Thanks for the kind words. I hope it works well for you. I did it out of desperation!!
BTW, I am also working on a Sprint version, since I also have a Sprint Note Edge.
I have been trying to get carrier-specific Edge Forums for some time:

Ok so here is what I've done so far testing this rom. I decided I didn't want to do a dirty flash with the rom so I did a nandroid backup in twrp. Got that done and deleted data, cache, and dalvik-cache. I then did a factory reset right there one menu back. It booted up fine and was seeming to run fine. Once I got past the the setup wizard I then went to the play store to download my apps. Therein was my problem. It wouldn't download anything. It would say downloading and download the app a certain amount and just stop. So I canceled it and moved on to another app. Downloaded and just stayed on installing. Never completed. I just couldnt get my apps to download.. Not the op's fault. It was said to firty flash, but I'm letting those know who are wondering outside the box. Maybe someone else is able to fix that issue. I then went back to twrp and restored my nandroid backup. Only problem I have now is I guess the fingerprint memory for my finger got erased. Kept saying no match. Backup password let me in. Was that a relief. Now when I went into the settings to change the backup password and fingerprint it says wrong password and fingerprint doesn't match. Real weird. So if your going to try this stuff disable the fingerprint reading on lockscreen and other things. That might help to relieve some fustration. Now I've dirty flashed the rom on top of my other and there doesn't seem to be any problems besides the finger print scanner. I'm sure a factory reset or another rom with work fine with it. Hope this helps someone!
Thanks for taking the time to do this. I was going to make a debloated ROM I just have not had the time.
Your a boss for doing this

I have no idea, how this thread got 1 star.
I'm downloading the latest ROM that dropped-NK3. I'll see if I can work up a similar setup as the NJL deodexed....
Also if it wouldn't be to much trouble maybe you could also make a debloated rom

Debloating is pretty easy to do. To me, though, is defining what is considered bloat. I can use some guidance. If you (and others) can provide a list of apps that you would like to see excluded, I think I can get it done.
Haha I don't know what other people's definition is but mine is taking everything out except what is needed to run the rom but that's probably to much so I'm guessing people mean no t-mobile apps or samsung apps but we would need some samsung apps for the edge apps so idk
Sent from my SM-N915T using XDA Free mobile app
Guys debloat yourself its very easy...everyone uses their phone differently. Some people use Samsung apps some dont. Some use all Google apps some dont.. Ill tell you how i do it hopefully it will help..
1.Create a folder on the root of your ExtSd called "Debloat"
2. Using Root Explorer navigate to System/app, System/privapp and Data/app, remove all apks you dont use and place them in the Debloat folder. Dont remove anything beginning with com. or Sec...if you dont know what it is Google it, thats what i used to do, if your still unsure freeze it forst in tibu. Now you have them all incase you need them again.
3.Reboot and cross your fingers.
You can also freeze whatever you want to remove in Tibu, reboot and see how it goes for a while. If no ill effects boom start at #1 and remove them.
I personally dont use any of the Sammy stuff so i remove it all, all the cloud apks, push, store, etc...if you dont print from your phone remove every print apk, and so on.
Its simple guys give it a shot☺
INTRO:
The mission of this thread is to make some potentially important information available to all users that have the SCH-S968C(All Tracfone carrier models) that has been gathered over the last year and a half for flashing CM/CM based ROMs on the SCH-S968C .
Though this information is available in many other places, I'm collecting it all into one place to try and make it as painless as possible for everyone with the SCH-S968C. This guide is a long one and has many steps but I've attempted to make it as straightforward as possible for those that are new to rooting and flashing.
BACKSTORY:
Starting from some time in 2014 there have been a lot of users with the SCH-S968C that have flashed a CM11/CM12/CM13 or CM11/CM12/CM13 based custom ROM and didn't have mobile data(3G) or even no cellular signal after flashing and were like:
"OH MY GOD! WHAT DID I DO!?"
Then they would start flashing other ROMs or flashing back to stock to straighten the issue out, only to find that didn't help and none of the typical or expected solutions would correct the issue. Many were flashing modems and swapping system files in an effort to get data working, all of which ended with either a non-working device or a bricked device, do not try the things they tried, that is not the fix for the situation.(if you are one of the ones that lost signal and can't get it back even on stock, I'll discuss the fix for that in TROUBLESHOOTING at the end of this guide).
THE REASON:
These users would have no signal after flashing because unfortunately, these ROMs are built for the Verizon S3 SCH-I535 but the SCH-S968C can flash them(it actually has the SCH-I535 Verizon motherboard with 4G disabled in the hardware, making it 3G only). The Verizon S3 is a 4G/LTE device, Verizon uses a CDMA 4G/LTE SIM in their 4G devices to regulate 4G data. This SIM requirement is built into the ROMs themselves. Even though the SCH-S968C is a 3G device, this makes these ROMs require a CDMA 3G/4G/LTE SIM when flashed on the SCH-S958C to receive at least data(some of the ROMs even require it for cellular service also, not just data).
The discussion of all of this about the SIM, what has been tried to bypass the SIM and the things discovered to leave the SIM and get everything working at its best can be found in THIS THREAD. Most of the issues and fixes for the KK and newer ROMs, all the troubleshooting and fixes associated to getting working data/MMS/SIM correctly configured along with restoring if you have issues can be found in the linked thread, mostly toward the end and not so much the middle.
***PREREQUISITES***
]1[-Rooted Galaxy S3(SCH-S968C) obviously, lol.
]2[-(Optional)If you're going to use PC to do your downloading and moving files then you'll need the "USB drivers for Samsung phones"(install on PC), download: HERE
]3[-ES File Explorer installed, download: HERE
]4[-Terminal Emulator installed, download: HERE
]5[-TWRP Manager or Flashify installed.
]*[ Download TWRP Manager: HERE
]*[Download Flashify: HERE
]*[(Optional)For those that manually download the .img with a mobile browser, it will be in your download folder, those with PC download it then transfer it to the device where you can find it, flash it with Flashify. Download TWRP .img: HERE.
]6[-CDMA 3G/4G/LTE SIM(absolutely MUST have a SIM or you won't get mobile data/MMS to work), below is a list of SIMs that should work and the results of using them, you'll need a micro SIM or a full-size SIM trimmed to fit micro(a nano SIM with adapter to fit micro will work as long as it is a CDMA, not a GSM SIM).
]*[Previously activated Verizon 4G LTE SIM.($3-5 on eBay)
(results are APN settings are accessible and mobile data/MMS works correctly)
]*[New, never activated Verizon SIM
(most users with a new SIM have working mobile data(3G) but have had issues accessing APN settings to get MMS working, some have had no issue accessing APN settings, some users with a new SIM also had a random dialing issue that would dial a *2289X number, the cause was never identified, this issue doesn't happen with a previously activated Verizon 4G/LTE SIM).
]*[Straight Talk BYOP CDMA 4G/LTE SIM(not the AT&T/T-Mobile SIM, those are GSM and won't work)(I haven't been able to verify if there is a difference between used and new ST SIMs but mobile data should work and if APN settings are accessible you should be able to get MMS working, hopefully users will post their results here with new and used ST SIM).
]7[ (Optional)-Titanium Backup installed, download: HERE
***PREPARING BEFORE FLASHING***
***NOTE***For the users that don't have a PC to do their downloading and file moving, I'll provide instructions for using ES File Explorer to do everything.***NOTE***
***NOTE***You can use your PC instead of ES File Explorer for everything EXCEPT copying /efs, this step will be done using the device to keep it simple for those that don't have PC and because PC method to pull a copy of /efs is a bit technical for the average user, I will only be explaining for using ES File Explorer.***NOTE***
]1[-For steps later in this guide(and for general purposes), you'll need to enable Root Explorer and mount R/W in ES File Explorer. To do this open ES File Explorer and tap the menu button.

]3[-Scroll down the menu and tap the words "Root Explorer"(not the toggle switch), it will turn on when you tap the words(grant superuser/root permission if prompted).
]4[-Tap "Mount R/W".
]5[-Your list of partitions may be different than mine but generally you want all partitions EXCEPT firmware-mdm set to RW as shown in screenshot. Tap OK when done.
]6[-It is recommended to make a NVdata backup to protect IMEI then save a copy of your /efs folder before flashing custom ROMs. IMEI is very easy to lose depending on what you flash and the order you flash it in with this device.
]*[(RECOMMENDED)Comprehensive guide to backing up IMEI/efs HERE
]*[For those that don't have a PC, open the Terminal Emulator app and type:
su(press enter, grant superuser/root permission if prompted)
Then type:
reboot nvbackup(press enter, the device will reboot).
]*[This saves NVdata/IMEI to be restored later if flashing wipes IMEI, instructions for restoring posted below in TROUBLESHOOTING).
]7[- It is also recommended to save a copy of your /efs folder on your extsdcard, we will use ES File Explorer. Open ES File Explorer and take note of what your extsdcard is labeled as and remember it, you'll need to know this later, then swipe from right to left to go a page over.
]8[-Tap the / symbol.
]9[-Press and hold the /efs folder to highlight it then tap the "More" button at the bottom.
]10[-Tap "Copy to"
]11[-Tap the arrow at the top left(what it says will be different depending on the ROM you're using).
]12[-Remember the name of your extsdcard? Select your extsdcard.
]13[-When you get to your extsdcard, tap "OK"(Those with PC can now connect to PC and save a copy of /efs on PC, you may have to enable MTP in the USB options that pop up when you connect device to PC to grant the PC access to device storage).
]14[-Open Titanium Backup(grant superuser/root permission if prompted while using Titanium Backup), backup all apps/data/settings you want to keep(Follow the guide I linked to determine what you want and what is safe to restore after flashing a new ROM, some things won't restore in a new ROM without causing issues), instructions for using Titanium Backup HERE.
]15[-To simplify moving files and to keep everyone on the same page when finding your files when you flash them we will create a folder on extsdcard and name it ABC(or whatever you want as long as you know which one it is), this will make it easy to find in TWRP when you flash your ROM.
Open ES File Explorer and select your extsdcard.(Those with PC can use PC to do this)
]16[-Tap the "New" button.
]17[-Tap "Folder".
]18[-Name the folder "ABC"(or whatever you choose) then tap OK.
]19[-Download the KK/LP/MM d2lte or d2vzw ROM(s) of your choice and store it/them in the folder you created on your extsdcard. You will find ROMs, custom recoveries, custom kernels and various other mods that can be used on the SCH-S968C in the links below.
]*[ROMs+other mods: HERE
]*[More ROMs: HERE
***EXTREME CAUTION***(DO NOT use anything that says STOCK/STOCK based or TW(TouchWiz) in its name, nothing that says firmware or modem, nothing that mentions Safestrap Recovery or Flashfire, locked Bootloader(BL). All of these things are specifically for the Verizon SCH-I535 and will almost certainly lead to hard bricking your device if you attempt to use them.***EXTREME CAUTION***
]20[-Download the appropriate Gapps for the ROM(s) you chose and store it/them in the folder you created(the version of Gapps you need should be mentioned wherever you get your ROM from).
]21[-Charge battery to full.
]22[-Now you're safely prepared to start the flashing process, proceed to the next steps.
***FLASHING TWRP***
It is recommended to always use the newest version of TWRP available for best results. If you already have the newest version then skip to FLASHING YOUR ROM, if you don't have it then follow instructions below.
To make this easy for those that are new or don't have a PC, we will use TWRP Manager or Flashify to flash TWRP, or by manually downloading the TWRP .img(linked above) then flashing it in Flashify.
***FLASHING WITH TWRP MANAGER***
]1[-Open TWRP Manager(grant superuser/root permission at any time while using TWRP Manager). Tap "Device Name".
]2[-Scroll down the list and select "Samsung Galaxy S3 Verizon d2vzw".
]3[-Tap "Recovery Version to install".
]4[-Select the newest version available.
]5[-Tap "Install Recovery".
]6[-The .img will download.
]7[-When the .img downloads it will prompt you to verify the partition to flash to, verify you have the same thing and tap "yes".
]8[-When the .img finishes flashing, you will be prompted to reboot to recovery, tap "yes".
***NOTE***Skip to BACKING UP YOUR STOCK ROM if you used this method to flash TWRP.***NOTE***
***NOTE***If you've tried this and you're having issues with this method, refer to the method below***NOTE***
***FLASHING WITH FLASHIFY***
]1[-Open Flashify and tap "Recovery Image"(grant superuser/root permission if promoted while using Flashify).
]2[-If you manually downloaded the .img(linked above as an option in PREREQUISITES), tap "Choose file", then select it from your download folder or wherever you stored it then skip over the next two steps below this one for downloading the .img in Flashify.
If you haven't manually downloaded the .img, skip this step and go to the next step to download the .img in Flashify.
]3[-Tap "Download TWRP".
]4[-Select the newest version available.
]5[-The .img will download(it will be downloaded in /flashify/recoveries/twrp/ folder if you ever need to find it.
]6[-When it downloads or when you select the .img from storage, it will prompt you to flash the recovery.img, tap "yup".
]7[-After it flashes, tap "Reboot now".
]8[ Proceed to BACKING UP YOUR STOCK ROM.
***BACKING UP YOUR STOCK ROM***
]1[-When you are booted to TWRP, if you are still on stock and you haven't made a NANDroid backup, make it now by selecting the "backup" option before you flash anything!(Very important step)
]2[-Tap "Select Storage".
]3[-Select your extsdcard(Micro SDCard), select OK.
]4[-The default partitions selected to backup are fine, swipe the slider to confirm, this NANDroid backup can be used at any point in the future to restore the device to stock if you have issue or ever want/need to.
]5[-Press the Home button in TWRP to return to the Main screen and proceed to FLASHING YOUR ROM.
***FLASHING YOUR ROM***
]1[-While still in recovery after making your stock NANDroid, remove battery cover and insert SIM then replace cover.
]2[-Tap "Wipe".
]3[-You'll see "Wipe Data, Cache and Dalvik(not including internal storage)" at the top, swipe the slider to perform the wipe and wait for it to finish.
]4[-Tap the Home button in TWRP to return to main screen, select "Install".
]5[-Select "Up a level".
]6[-Select "external_sd".
]7[-Select the "ABC" folder you created(or whatever name you chose for the folder, scroll down the list if needed).
]8[-Select your ROM.zip.
]9[-Tap "Add more zips".
]10[-Select your Gapps.zip.
]11[-Swipe the slider to confirm the flash.
]12[-After flashing, tap "Wipe cache/dalvik".
]13[-Swipe the slider to confirm.
]14[-Tap "Reboot System".
]15[-Wait for the phone to boot(It will take 10-20 minutes to fully load), when it boots into Setup Wizard, stop and watch the status bar Network Signal icon, wait for the device to detect the SIM, when the icons shows a signal(and 3G if you're lucky, if you are not getting any 3G then just get on WiFi to finish setup if you have WiFi or if you don't have WiFi, skip setup and go on to SETTING UP DEVICE AND SIM, you can sign in to Google to finish setup after you get the SIM and APNs set up), then go through Setup Wizard to set up the device and sign in to your Google account. When you're in the phone, continue to setup steps below.
***SETTING UP DEVICE AND SIM***
***NOTE***Your system settings may look different depending on your ROM but the settings should be the same or similar, find the settings described wherever they are in your ROM and set them to what is posted.***NOTE***
]1[-Go to System Settings>About>Build Number.
]2[-Tap build number at least 7 times quickly to enable Developer Options(you'll get a toast message saying you have enabled development options).
]3[-Go to System Settings>Developer Options.
]4[-Set Root Access to "apps and adb".
]5[-While still in developer options, verify USB debugging is on(neither is needed for setup but turning them on now prevents potentially confusing issues later).
]6[-Open your dialer app and dial:
*228(if your SIM is a Verizon SIM), press send, this programs the SIM, hangup when done.
OR
*2289X(if your SIM is a Straight Talk SIM(or any other Tracfone variant CDMA SIM). I can't confirm the actual number, I haven't used this SIM), if your SIM is a ST BYOP CDMA 4G/LTE SIM then this number should program the SIM, I can't confirm that though, if it doesn't we'll have to hope someone that used ST 4G posts what they had to do, hang up when done.
]7[-Go to System Settings>Mobile Networks(tap the words, not the toggle switch.
]8[-Set Preferred Network to "3G".
]9[-Set CDMA Subscription to "NV".
]10[-Select Access Point Names.
]11[-Then select one of the existing APN sets on the list(any set, it doesn't matter, do not create a new set, you have to edit an existing set or they won't save, your list won't look the same as mine).
]12[-Edit the APNs using either set I have posted, the Tracfone set should work on all Tracfone network variants. Change only the values listed.
]*[Tracfone APNs, enter the name of your Tracfone network Carrier variant in the Name value(These APNs are for all Tracfone devices including BYOP devices).
Name: (Your network variant)
APN: tfdata
Port: 80
MMSC: http://mms-tf.net
MMS Proxy: mms3.Tracfone.com
MMS Port: 80
]*[Verizon APNs(these will also work on the Tracfone variants since they are on Verizon towers).
Name: verizon
APN: internet
MMSC: http://MMS.vtext.com/servlets/mms
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 012
APN Type: internet,mms
]13[-When you've entered the APNs, tap the menu button.
]14[-Save the edited APNs, the set you create might disappear but they are still there and will still work as normal.
***NOTE***If you flashed a 4.4+ ROM first and now you want to go up to 5.0+/6.0+ and you have working data, now would be a good time to reboot to TWRP to flash the 5.0+/6.0+ ROM and Gapps like instructed in the above steps. When you get them flashed, do these same steps to make sure everything is set where it needs as you go back through everything.(or dirty flash with no factory reset, only wipe cache and dalvik after flashing and ONLY as long as it is an update to the same ROM you are using, for example, CM11 to CM12 or AICP 5.0 to AICP 6.0, hopefully dirty flashing will let you keep APNs configured in some of the newer ROMs that don't give access to APN settings instead of having no way to change APNs in your new ROM, also, some of the ROMs don't have the settings built in the ROM because they have World APNs so shouldn't need the settings configured)***NOTE***
]15[-Reboot the device to reload settings.
]16[-After the device reboots you should have working mobile data and MMS(You can sign in to your Google account now if you had to skip it in setup), install Titanium backup using the copy of the app you placed on extsdcard then open Titanium Backup and restore all the data you backed up in Titanium Backup, reboot after restoring data from Titanium Backup.(You will need to go to System Settings>Security>Unknown Sources and turn it on to install Titanium Backup if you're installing from a copy you manually saved, or you can install it again from the Google Playstore)
]17[-Remember to set Root Explorer and mount R/W in ES File Explorer as described in PREPARING BEFORE FLASHING section posted above before proceeding to the next step.
]18[-Once everything is set up the way you want, mobile data/MMS are correctly configured and all data is restored from Titanium Backup, you can boot to TWRP and make a new NANDroid backup of your custom ROM with everything working, this can also be used to restore later if you have issues. Remember, at this point you should have a stock NANDroid backup and a custom NANDroid backup if you've followed the instructions, either can be used when/if you need it. Reboot after making the new NANDroid backup.
]19[-Enjoy!!!

***Troubleshooting***
]1[-ISSUE-You've tried flashing a CM12/CM13 or CM based Lollipop/Marshmallow ROM but you are getting a bootloop.
]A[-POSSIBLE FIX- Did you wipe data/wipe cache/wipe dalvik cache before/after flashing then rebooting?
]B[-POSSIBLE FIX- When coming from stock to Lollipop or newer it is sometimes necessary to do a clean install when flashing the ROM, to clean install, Boot to TWRP, select "Wipe".
]*[Then select "Advanced Wipe".
]*[Then select "System" and "Data" partitions(do not select any other partitions). Swipe the slider to confirm the wipe.
]*[Tap the home button and continue by flashing ROM and Gapps normally as posted in FLASHING YOUR ROM above.
]2[-ISSUE- You flashed a ROM and lost Signal.
]A[-POSSIBLE FIX- Check Network Settings to verify you're set to 3G and NV, if you flashed a custom ROM before this and had working data then flash back to that ROM and check network settings in that ROM also.
]B[-POSSIBLE FIX- Check System Settings>About>Status>IMEI and verify you still have IMEI. If you have lost IMEI then follow steps below.
]*[(Recommended)-Refer to the Comprehensive guide to backup IMEI/efs to restore IMEI HERE
]*[-Open Terminal Emulator and type:
su (press enter, grant superuser/root permission if prompted)
Then type:
reboot nvrestore (press enter, this will restore your IMEI)
]*[-Restoring the nvbackup using Terminal Emulator erases the backup from where it was saved so you'll need to make another NVdata backup using the same method described above in the PREPARING BEFORE FLASHING section.
]*[-Copy your efs folder back to its location on your device(overwrite the existing file if needed), reboot device.
]3[-ISSUE- You flashed a 6.0 CM/CM based ROM and now your PC sees your device but isn't seeing your device storage.
]A[-Possible fix- When device connects you'll see a notification in status bar, pull down notifications and open options, select MTP.
***NOTE***THIS THREAD(linked above also) discusses various issues when flashing these ROMs and using SIM, remember to patiently read through it if you have issues and you'll probably find your answer, the issues and fixes are spread through many months of posts so it's not going to be a fast find, but with diligence to suffer through the agony of reading posts you'll most likely find your answer***NOTE***

The links work fine for me, try a different browser or something.
As stated in my guide, new, never activated SIMs usually can't access APNs but previously activated ones can, get a used Verizon SIM from eBay for $3-5, they have APNs stored on the SIM, this allows you to edit them.
Or you can try different ROMs to see if APNs are accessible, some can and some can't because some of the ROMs have world APNs built in(these don't have APN settings), the ones without world APNs should be able to access APN settings.

Are the APNs saving when you can access them? If so then a reboot shouldn't reset everything. You have to edit an existing set or they won't save, creating a new set won't save, only editing existing sets works.

Leaving the rest of them won't harm anything, you can delete them if you want but once they are gone there's no getting them back.
In my experience, I've seen better results with a used SIM from Verizon, they are easy to get and cheap for $3 to $5 on eBay.

I ended up doing a clean install of octos 6.0 ROM and works like a charm. No Verizon SIM needed. Flawless for me so far. Regardless , your posts taught me a lot on multiple sites. Amazing the s3 can run android 6.0. Cheers

I didn't quite understand that, can you clarify what you're saying?
Are you saying the APNs are disappearing?
Typically on this device, when you edit and save they disappear but still work, that's normal for this device if that is what you mean.

After dialing *228 im given the apn list. One of them works from the start with no modifications and is named straight talk. But after rebooting the phone the list will be blank and say apn setting not available for this user(data works but no mms). If i dial it again the list returns and the phones mms works onces again. Im guessing this is the errors you have been talking about but i got the sim card befor your guild.
I will most likely buy another card used but im not much of an ebay user
And im sorry my English is vary bad

The apn it defaults to and works on is basically blank but it works. As long as i dont restart the phone. I have not tested to see what happens over a long period of time, my guess is it will eventually stop working again. But i will keep my phone on over night and see if i can mms in the morning

Wait before you get the SIM. I might can work something out for you. You're the first person to mention getting APN settings back after they weren't available and the first to mention that you lose them after a reboot. Does your data and MMS still work after rebooting?
I'm going to contact some developer associates of mine and see if we can't use this information to come up with a working fix for it, if so, you won't need another SIM but if you'd rather not wait then go ahead get the SIM.
You have me curious to see if there is something useful that can be done like writing a script or something to run at startup to keep your issue from happening. Whether its a script or not there may still be a chance there could be a small breakthrough for this device when using these ROMs.

I am more than happy to wait I'm more interested in the process of getting this to work then I am updating my phone after a reboot and APN settings disappear I lose the ability to MMS but I still am able to use data.
If there is any information I can send you please let me know I am more than happy to send it
I am doing this with the CM 13 nightly build but I'm not up to date this current moment because that would require a reboot

In the meantime, if you want to use MMS you can use Hangouts or a third party texting app from the Playstore, there are several different ones, third party texting works fine, its the stock messenger in these ROMs that doesn't work without the APNs, third party doesn't need it.

Doesn't hangout require the other person to have it as well or will they receive it as a normal text

Yes, but some of the third party apps don't require the other person to have it.
BTW, if you use the reply button under someones post(if you're using a browser) it will quote whoever you're replying to and they'll get a notification to let them know you replied.
Or if you're using an app to view this form, tap the persons post then tap reply and it will quote them.
This way they know you replied instead of having to purposely come look to see if you replied.
You can also give someone a mention if you want to get their attention by putting @ on the beginning of their name like this @stoneman1924, this also gives them a notification that you mentioned them so they'll know to come look. It makes it easier for everyone if you use the quote system and the mention system. I've quoted your post every time I replied, it gave you notifications that I had replied to you so you could check my reply didn't it?

Hello,
I've rooted a few phones, but I don't really do too much with them, I mostly root them to have an easier time transferring all data from one phone to the next, and for being able to use a couple of root apps. Basically, I'm not all that good at this stuff, but I can get by most of the time with enough research and time. I have not been able to find a thread that's been able to help me with this problem, though.
My V20's reception practically fell off the map after rooting it. I've been researching and trying to find a way to flash the modem files that I dumped with LGUP before I rooted it via dirtysanta, but I'm not having any luck. The files don't have an extension, but from what I can gather, they should be image files. I'm not 100% on that because I can't seem to find what file type they actually are, my computer only lists them with the description of "file". I run Windows 7 if that matters.
Anyway, based on what I've found so far, the files I need to flash in order to fix my reception problem are:
modem_COM5
modemst1_COM5
modemst2_COM5
fsg_COM5
I can't get fastboot to work, I'm not sure how to link my phone to a file path on my computer from command terminal so that's not been working for me. I've also tried renaming the files by adding ".img" to the end, zipping them and installing them with twrp afterward, but they won't install, giving me an error of "META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary"
Ultimately, I'm lost. Any help is greatly appreciated, as I've spent hours pouring over threads and trying to fix my stupid reception problems. I have no reception at home, none at work, and I have spotty reception while driving or out in other places, but it's generally terrible. I used to have low reception at home, but I could always make a call if I needed to, and I'd have great reception driving around. Then I rooted my phone and my reception tanked.

I appreciate you making the zip, but after flashing the files my phone won't boot up. When I power it on it says that my device has failed a routine safety check and will not boot. I'm accustomed to my phone saying that when I boot it up, as it's done that ever since rooting it, but then it shows the LG logo and then shuts off and will not turn on again unless I take the battery out and reinsert it. I have to go through that process at least 2 or 3 times to get the phone to load up. When I got it to load up again, the top bar of my phone said I had no service, which it did not before flashing the files. I've gone back into twrp and tried re-flashing it again to no avail.
If it makes a difference there were two sets of files when I went to flash, even though I only put in one set. I renamed them according to your instructions, and there were one set that just had the file name and .img at the end (like fsg.img) and another set that started with ._ and ends with .img (like ._fsg.img)
Thanks again for taking the time, I really appreciate the help.

I tested the zip myself it works as expected.
The unlocked bootloader message has nothing to do with your issue.
What sim card are you using?
What are your apn settings?
What was the last Rom you flashed?
Are you on Oreo?

It's a nano sim from at&t, and at&t is my carrier. I doubt it's relevant, but I use a prepaid plan.
My app settings are:
Name: ATT Nextgenphone
APN: nxtgenphone
Proxy: Not set
Port: Not set
Username: Not set
Password: Not set
MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication type: None
APN type: default,mms,supl,hipri,fota
APN protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN roaming protocol: IPv4/IPv6
I believe the last ROM I flashed was H91510e_VTR_CA_OP_1205.kdz
Using the DirtySanta method of rooting, I think I flashed that so I could actually root the phone and then updated to another version, possibly. I'll include my software info in case that is helpful.
I'm not on oreo, I'm running nougat
Android version: 7.0
Android security patch level: November 1, 2017
Baseband version: MPSS.TH.2.0.1.c3-00011M8996FAAAANAZM-1.69323.1. 69645.2
Kernel version: 3.18.31
Build number: NRD90M

Security software version: MDF v2.0 Release 4
Thanks again for all of your help.

Maybe theirs a setting in the Hidden menu that will help
using a build.prop editor (thanks @ezzony)
Change ro.build.target_operator from ATT to OPEN to bring back all the missing Modem_Settings and the ones that were also missing in regular Settings>Mobile Networks. Also reverted to stock icons in status bar.
in the dialer type > *#546368#*910#
then go to Field Test>Modem Settings>Network Mode and set to Automatic
reboot
you can also check that Volte and VoWifi are enabled from the hidden menu Modem settings
Also in Settings>Mobile Network>Network Mode be sure it's set to the top one (GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto)

I downloaded a build.prop editor and changed the build target operator setting, but I'm not sure what you mean by reverting to stock icons in status bar or how to do that. Which settings were missing in Settings>Mobile Networks?
I got into that other menu, but under field test>modem settings I can choose either engineering mode or PDP setting.
Engineering mode says "modemprotocol" in the top corner, with previous, up, down, and next buttons. Under that it says ITEM_2G: 0
[Serving Cell Information]
ARFCN: 0
FL_Timeout_v: 0
RXLEV: 0
C1: 0
C2: 0
Other pages for engineering mode are for Item HSPA:0 [HSDPA Information], Item_NM [general information], Item_3G: 0 [RRC State and Serving Cell information], Item_LTE: 0 [LTE Information]
PDP settings says ModemProtocol at the top and has options for [0] Set LG Fast Dormancy, [1] APN setting, [2' Block DataRecovery.
VoLTE and VoWifi are enabled in the hidden menu, but I can't access Settings>Mobile Network>Network Mode. I can't figure out how to check the GSM and other options. I can go to Settings>Mobile Networks and then I can go to:
Mobile data - just turns it on or off
Mobile data reminder
Review reminder settings
International data roaming
Disable 2G
Access Point Names
Search for AT&T MicroCell - When I search, none are found
I hope I'm not just throwing too much useless information for you to sift through. I'm just not entirely sure of what all is relevant.

Alright, I've done this, I've also made a few different access point names for att to try and see if any of those have better reception. Nothing's working all that great, but hopefully at least one of them works a little better than what I've been used to.
Currently I still have no reception where I'm used to having one or two bars around the house. I'm not sure if there is anything else to do without opening up the phone and replacing any parts. If there is anything else you can think of that I might try, please let me know.
Do you think that changing the screen would make any difference on reception? I did have to have mine changed shortly after rooting the phone, but I can't really imagine that could be the cause since I still do get occasional reception.
Thanks again for all of your help.

I am having the same problem after following the root guide - no data. I'm on T-Mobile with an ATT phone running H91010r. I installed your modem.bat file with my dumped modem files using twrp, I changed the ATT buildprop to open, rebooted and made sure to select the first auto option. I tried dialing the secret menu number but it gives an error. Zero data. Everything else seems to be working phone. Data worked on stock phone before rooting. Please help!

it's most likely an APN problem
what do you mean the dialer code did not work ? it works on all H910
When I put in the dialer code and hit call I get "ussd code RUNNING" and then "connection problem or invalid mmi code"
I did get 4g working by reseting the Sim card, so I'm not panicking, but it seems slower than before. APN is off the t-mobile site.

are you sure you have a H910 ?
the dialer code depends on the Motherboard
*#546368#*910#
see the 910# at the end must match your phone
the Verizon LG V20 VS995 dialer code is disabled > worth reading
The unlocked LG V20 US995 would use dialer code *#546368#*995#
I'm not sure what works with the F800 version
