Transfering contacts from Windows Mobile to WP7? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How can I transfer the contacts from WM 6 to Windows Phone?
A quick search found the Outlook method, but I don't use Outlook and I don't have the app. Another way is copying each contact to SIM and then transfering but that is very time consuming.
Any other ways?

At least in Nokia there is a Contact Transfer application in the application menu. This works like a charm.

I don't think ActiveSync has that option.

You can transfer all your contacts to "cloud" from google: http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138636&topic=14299. On WP7 device add this account like exchange serwer and done. But you have to remember:
10. Check Contacts, Calendar, or Email, depending on which you'd like to sync. (Tasks is not supported and will lead to an error if checked.)

Here is what I did.
Saved contacts as cbf file to my PC and imported in my Google Mail account.
Now, I synced WP7 with the Gmail account. The contacts are there in the list with the numbers and I cannot call. There's no option or button for that.
EDIT: Now I checked the contacts in my Gmail account. The First, Middle and Last name are fine but the numbers are saved as notes, like
Mobile: **********
FileAs: First, Last name

I think, I got a fix for this.
If anyone any export any 1 or 2 contacts from their Gmail account which must have mobile tel, and preferrably work tel, home tel and email also and send the file to me.
You can replace the numbers by 00 or anything. Export in CSV file.
I just need the 'Fields' the gmail uses for numbers.
I am using imobiletool contacts.

[Q] How to sync Windows (or iPhone) contacts to Tab?

Ok, I've given up trying to figure this out on my own, simply because the unfortunate keywords involved will show me Google results on just about anything other than what I need.
I want to sync my Windows contacts to Tab. Kies software does not see them. I don't have an Outlook, since Windows 7 64 bit has live mail instead. I've tried exporting contacts to VCF format, and then importing them through Kies but that didn't help either.
I also have an iPhone 3Gs that syncs to the same computer, using those same Windows contacts without a problem. Is there a way to get the contacts from iPhone?
I may be asking too much, but I'd also love to keep my contact photos that are neatly attached to many of my contacts.
This is really driving me crazy and any help would be appreciated.
Why not try exporting your contacts to CSV and then import the file into your Google address book (Contacts) online?

I don't really use Gmail. I have private server POP mail accounts and I keep my contacts on my iPhone, laptop and home PC.
Am I to get used to idea I'm gonna have to start using Google for e-mail, contacts, calendar etc.?
Use contact manager on your iphone to create a CSV and then email the file through the app to any email address you use, then on your tab log into that email account and save the CSV to your tab, then on the tab to into contacts and select import and it should find the file and loads them
that's how I did it

Export to VCF and import that into Google's Contacts. You don't need to really use gmail if you don't want to, but the gmail address book is the most convenient way of keeping track of your contacts. Plus you can then edit them from any PC with a web browser..
VCF (vCard) can embed images. I don't know if M$ Live Mail can write VCF with embedded images, though. But thats what you should try.
Just sync it with outlook contacts u can update with iphone and then pass to the tab. That's what in doing and when I change anything on the tab I just create a new sync so the.next sync with the.iphone will be clean and won't replace any contact.

Editing facebook contacts...

I am using fission 2.4.3 ROM and i like the way it looks and all but is there a way to edit the Facebook syncd contacts like the factory Global contact list settings? it says facebook contact information is no editable on this device... am i missing soemthing? before the root and rom i syncd my contacts and was able to add numbers, emails and drag them onto the home tabs for shortcuts..
Welcome to the CLOUD!
Doesn't seem like such a great idea now does it? LOL
Here is what you do, it will require having or making a Yahoo Mail account but it will solve your problem.
If you use Outlook (like I do) it will be way more complicated but only because you probably want to use Outlook as your master list.
Step One - Go to Yahoo mail and import your facebook contacts into your yahoo mail contacts. (they have a wizard that does this for you) Then export Yahoo Mail Contacts to a CSV file. (This will work for myspace and linkedIn as well!)
Step Two (Google) - Import that CSV file into Google contacts and have your phone sync if it doesn't automatically (sometimes it takes awhile to sync)
Step Three - Look in your phone contacts you will now see dupliacte contacts of all your facebook friends. One will be from Google and the other will be from facebook. Select the facebook contact and JOIN or LINK (depends on your rom) it to the other duplicate.
You will now be able to edit all the fields not filled in by Facebook and a have a single contact for that person. (If you look you will see in the contact which profiles are linked together. You will have one profile for each contact source that has been linked. (one for Google and one for Facebook)
If you have Fission running you need to go into EDIT contact before you will get the JOIN button in the menu.
I have found that it is best to do most of your editing in Google Mail and then syncing anything else (such as outlook) to that (I use Companion Link).
And while it is ok to add contacts into outlook and sync with Gmail it is better to check those contacts for correctness in Gmail.
If they are correct in Gmail they are correct on the phone. And should you ever have to factory wipe data you will be sure to get all your contacts back when you resign into GMail on your phone.

Contacts wont sync!

I need some help here...............
I am running stock mango. Phone wont sync all my contacts with any 1 client. Some are on Google, some on Facebook, and some yet on Live/Hotmail.
How do I push all of my contacts to one place for off phone storage?
Is there anyway to get all of my contacts to sync somewhere away from the phone in the event I lose my phone or all data is lost?
There must be something somewhere????
Btw, syncing contacts to Windows Live is a nightmare.
Now since you mentioned Google, I suggest you sync/backup your contacts there.
Settings, (system tab) e-mail+accounts, Google, check the box for Contacts
If you have others, uncheck Contacts in all other accounts.
Now go to Settings (applications tab) people, filter my contact list and choose whatever you like but make sure you uncheck "Windows Live".
Sync, and all your contacts should be backed in Gmail (check Contacts there from a PC).
Alternatively, if you can save your contact list as a .CSV file and import directly in Gmail (in your desktop's browser).
Thanks for the help!!
The only account that I have a checkbox for contacts in is Google, even windows live doesnt have a checkbox.
I went into setting>application>people>filter and unchecked windows live from sync and tried again, still wont load.
I have some of my contacts stored in Google, but not ALL of them!
How do I create a .csv file on my phone and export into google?
It's normal to see the checkbox only in Gmail.
Make sure on PC you check properly your Gmail account in Contacts, you should see "My Contacts" and "Imported MM/DD/YY" if you import them via CSV. Also, You might want to make sure the contacts from your SIM are on the phone (might be why you're missing some contacts).
Alternatively, you can edit your contacts yourself in Gmail.
This guide might prove very useful to you for transferring, importing, exporting contacts.
Still no dice. Cant find how to access my contacts via SIM since doing the Mango update.
This is getting frustrating. No one is having the same problem with the Arrive?
Import or Export ?
I am sorry but I am bit lost in the conversation.
What is that you want to do ?
Import Contacts in the Phone or Export Contacts from the Phone to somewhere else ?
I want my contacts exported somewhere, that way if my phone crashes or is lost I have all of my contacts stored offline somewhere safe.
WP7 says this is done automatically through Windows Live and Google......its not happening on my phone, only SOME contacts are stored in each

I've historically had the opposite experience. I think Gmail contacts & calendars are both pretty inconsistent, and my Live account has been 100x better to sync with. I even had issues on Android with Gmail contacts/calendar.
Still cant sync contacts or calendar with Gmail........any suggestions? I cant be the only one with this issue, can I?
Is there an App for Google yet on Mango?
I posted this elsewhere on the forums a moment ago and it relates to getting google contacts to sync with my Nokia Lumia 800.
I set it all up nicely and then found that none of my google phone numbers were synced. I had a similar experience with my old android phone (well the opposite problem actually)
I fixed this by highlighting all my contacts in google on a PC and making sure they were all in the "my contacts" group as that seems to be the only group that the phone will sync. Once done, all of my contacts were there.
Don't sync the google calendar so cant comment
enjoy!

How to "best" use Calendar(s) and Contacts

I have some questions regarding how to "best" use the calendar(s) and Contacts.
I want everything in one Calendar, so I've currently settled to showing only my Exchange (Outlook) calendar on my phone. I set up Google's Sync program on my work PC to update my Outlook calendar and Google Calendar, so I can read/edit it on my PC at home. After a number of missed meetings (and angry boss) I set this to a one-way push from Outlook to Google. No more missing entries. This means I cannot edit my calendar on my PC at home. How do I best view/use/edit a single calendar on my phone, Exchange, and my home PC?
Contacts are confusing to me. I don't fully understand how to think of them. I have ~500 contacts from Outlook, most of which were pushed to GMail. When I first started to use the phone and log in to Facebook, etc. I was prompted to "link" contact IDs. After linking a few hundred I though I was OK, but none of the newer contact pictures on my phone have been synced with Outlook. How do I sync this information? I PRESUME that linking really keeps multiple entries for a person with some fields from each source? What really happening when I "link" and how can I "merge" them instead? I'm most interested in "pushing" new/updated pictures to my outlook contacts.
Thanks in advance,

Time zones
In outlook, as well as on the phone's calendar application, you have the option to specify the time zone for the calendar entry. Simple and straight forward.

I'm confused. Why don't you just setup your exchange account on the phone and keep it separate from your gmail calendar? This way you don't have to sync outlook calendar with gmail calendar and you can still view/edit on phone. Yes you won't be able to view/edit from home pc but I'm not sure why would you want to do that?
The contacts are only linked, they are not merged (even though they show up as merged on the phone) so the pictures from Facebook for example won't be updated on your outlook. If you were to remove your Facebook account in your phone, you will lose all the pictures and other info that came from Facebook. It is built this way for privacy reasons so Google doesn't steal Facebook contact data and vice versa.

This software (called Fonebook) should allow you to update Outlook contacts with corresponding pictures from Facebook.

When I'm home I want to view my Calendar on the big screen of my PC. 14" is MUCH better than 3.7"
Sometimes I want to edit a Calendar entry when I'm home (e.g. add an entry with a long text note) which is a pain to do on the handset.
My N900 had an App to copy contact pictures from Facebook, etc. onto the handset's contacts, which were then sync'ed to Outlook. Is there an app with similar functionality for Android?
Thanks
Is there new software that will sync my Outlook calendar to Google Cal without me getting chewed out by my Boss for missing meetings?

Yes, outlook changes all of the entries according to changing time zones.
I want to enter my 9:30 return flight (when I'm booking, before travel) as 9:30. Outlook assumes I'll enter it as 6:30 since I'm in PDT and the airport is in EDT. I'm trying to use entries that are all local time. If I have connecting flights I need to pre-compute different offsets. Too easy to mess up and miss a flight.
I been trying different scenarios to see why your appointments are getting shifted but everything is working for me the way it should as long as I specify the time zone for the appointment and not accept the default time zone that Outlook or Google calendar suggests (they default to current time zone). Do you do that on your end or do you just enter start/end time for the appointment without along with the rest of the appointment details without changing the time zone?
