Location of Kindle Fire UI files - Kindle Fire Themes and Apps

Hi there, I have rooted Kindle Fire
I have been trying to find the image files of the UI images of Kindle Fire ? like the home button, the search button graphic and everything ?
anyone know where to look at ? or where to extract from ?
I have been trying to explore with Root Explorer with no luck
any help would be great !

That's all encapsulated in the /system/framework/framework-res.apk file. Look for the guide on fixing changing wallpapers. All of the graphical elements are in the same place as those wallpapers.

Theming problems, anyone lend a hand?

Im running into some problems while trying to to theme the framework-res.
Im using apk manger to decompile the apk, so far ive only tried changing the zzz_buttons that go in the drop down bar.
I recompile the apk ect...
But i keep getting force closes "'tw_quick_panel" and then everything else, when i apply the apk via root explorer.
Also, which values in the xml do i edit so all the fonts are white, and the menus are black.
Does anyone want to team up with me and help me make a theme, i can do all the graphics, but im not really sure what to edit in the XMLs and im obviously doing something wrong when compiling
Thanks.
Hi natious
I think my posts in this thread will help:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942618
its not on color but its a general guide on how to modify framework-res.apk
To change font color; you have to specify which text? ; there are several categories of text in the framework; title bar, notification bar, menus , sub menus system app, etc....
also, you have the same with background colors, its not a single value and its cannot be changed with changing single value; some apps have their own background pngs
xml deals with colors located in colors, drawable, layout and values directories
res\values\styles.xml is the main layout styling and theming xml
i can apply any changes you want, if help
good luck with theming....
Hi there as far as i understand, you are supposed to push the frame-res.apk by using command:
adb push framework-res.apk DESTINATION_FOLDER.
Copying might not work, plus this has to do from the recovery.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, i will give that stuff a try later tonight.
Do i have to push the framework back to the phone via adb, or is just replaceing it with root explorer fine.
Is it possible to see the changes on a virtual device rather than having to send it to the phone.
Thanks for your help, if i run into anymore problems do you mind if i pm you questions lol
Thanks.

If u manage to push via adb in recovery mode, then thats the best method of reverting stuff if it fails..If u copy/replace via root explorer you better be sure you have done all correct, else ull be flashing factoryfs.rfs unlimited times..
If u have root permissions in recovery mode, ill would use that method..

[Q] Replace system fonts?

I would like the change the fonts (if possible), on my lockscreen clock, battery indicator, and possibly some fonts on my calwidget and beautiful widgets clock/weather widget.
Is this possible?
Let's say I find a font pack I like, called "coolfont.ttf". How would I go about doing this?
Ok, I found an app called fontchanger that works well...I only need to find fonts online and add them to the folder.
But the lockscreen clock in CM7 isn't affected. Anyone know how to change that font?
involves rooting and using a root file explorer app (ie root explorer)
yes, but does require root and TrueType fonts (ie .TTF). i personally use the Unique.ttf from Apple's Mac OS X SL and love it. has a futuristic but readable look.
System fonts are located here:
/system/fonts
I just rename the unique.ttf font to SansDroid.ttf (this is the main default system font thats used throughout the android ui). I rename the original one w/a .orig file extension before doing this. Bad fonts can cause boot loops and in turn you will have to boot to recovery mode and then use ADB Shell command to rename the original system font back or push it if you copy from your device.

Hey SeaMonkey,
Where do I find the Unique.ttf?? I really like that look on your screenshots
I use Absolute System to change fonts. There are like 1000 fonts to choose from and you don't have to do any work. Just choose the font, reboot and there it is. Love it.

Yes, can you either upload the Unique.ttf font for us, or point us in the right direction of where we can download it? I really like that font, but can't find it anywhere.
MMAPCPRO,
After a pretty good deal of searching many of the free font sites, I'm with you.
Any help or hints, or a zipped up .ttf file would sure help on this one.
Thanks!

[HOWTO] Easily get theme's default wallpaper

Hey, I just discovered a way to get a theme's default wallpaper without asking for it to the developer, I'm sorry if this is obvious for you and this thread is completely unnecessary, but I think it's an interesting point to look at
Ok, let's go
- First, open the zip of the theme with winrar or something similar
- Without unzipping, go to system>framework and unzip only framework-res.apk
- Now, again, open the apk extracted with winrar
- Look for res>drawable-hdpi and there you will find the default_wallpaper.jpg
Unzip that, put it in your phone and enjoy
NOTE:If you don't find in that folder the wallpaper you wanted, you can also look for it in another folder in res called "drawable". Look again for default_wallpaper.jpg
Hi, thanks for this useful post. I know this is an old one but i didn't want to open a new topic.
I want to get the other stock wallpapers of i9003 itself has. (For example, the green one). What should i do? I found only one wallpaper in that directory, not all of them.

Use a root file browser in your phone,
Go to system/app/TwWallpaperChooser.apk
View the files, go to res/drawable-hdpi
All the stock wallpapers are in there. Extract the wallpaper you like.
I used root browser.
Edit: if you're not rooted, you can use astro file browser. It can copy from system without root.

[MOD]White mouse cursor for dock mode

Hi all!
Figured I'd share this with you lot:
I've always hated the black and hard to see black cursor on Android, so with a bit of help from Google and the Xoom forums, I found a way to replace it with a white replica:
First, BACKUP your device! This is rare to go wrong, but I wont be held responsible for anything
1. Root is required!
2. Transfer "/system/framework/framework-res.apk" to your PC, I use ES Fire Explorer and export it to Dropbox
3. Download the white arrow from here: http://rpr.endoftheinternet.dk/android/pointer_arrow.png
4. Open up the .apk with a ZIP archiver (I use 7Zip), and put the .png into "/res/drawable-hdpi/" replacing the file already there. Don't extract all the files and try to make a new archive, dead sure way to force a boot loop!
5. Put the file back on the tablet, overwriting the old one. The tablet will instantly reboot, and you're done!
Uooou this is very useful!

Right, it says "Download the white arrow from here" and that's what you get. You need to read the rest of the post to do the actual mod.
For windows based systems (and most others I think) RIGHT-click on the image, that pops up a window the lets you select "save image as".. This brings up a files selection windows and you can save it wherever you want.
Then follow the rest of the post.

Ok, missed or forgot about having to use a pc. I was trying to download to my tablet. Someone on the Asus suggested I could do that and then use Ninga Morph to do the install. But, I guess I still have d/l on the pc then move it to the tablet. My bad!

A PC is not required. Click on the arrow. When it opens, save the pic and rename it pointer_arrow.png and use ninja morph (available in the play store) and put the png in the exact spot listed in the OP. As soon as you close the project in ninja morph your tablet will restart and you are good to go.
Edit, see post 13 for detailed instructions if you have no clue on using ninja morph. It is not at all intuitive.

Thanks to RpR and wingdo for the tips! Here is a slightly edited cursor image I'm using - the outline has been changed from blue to black and made to look a little sharper.
I'm using ES File Explorer and when I go to overwrite the .apk with the modified one it fails every time.
I tired copying straight from SkyDrive to it, didn't work, and I tried putting it in my "Download" folder first then to /system/framework/ but it just won't do it.
Any ideas why?

Try using ninja morph as explained by windgo. I got it working just fine without using ES File Explorer/PC.
Ninja morph is not intuitive, so here is the basic idea of how to use it. Until recently I haven't used it since my Droid 1 days.
Download or save the above arrow and name it pointer_arrow.png
Download ninja morph from the play store. Open the program (i.e. run it), be aware this is an ancient program and is neither tablet friendly nor ICS / JB status bar friendly. Be sure to use the programs back arrow key and not the Android status bar one when wanting to go backwards in the built in file manager.
Create a new project.
Navigate to system, framework and then framework-res.apk. Click on the apk and it will extract.
Once extracted navigate to res and then to drawable-hdpi. Once in that folder scroll down to pointer_arrow.png. click on pointer_arrow.png. Ninja morph will change screens and ask you to pick the file to replace pointer_arrow.png with.
Use the nav panel to make your way to wherever you have the new file stored and click on it. Ninja morph will replace the file.
At this point choose finish project at the bottom. Ninja morph will rebuild the apk and ask you if you are ready to replace the project. Say yes or whatever the affirmative action is, let it replace framework-res.apk, your tf700 will automatically restart and bada bing you have the white pointer.
Edit, if this was useful please click thanks.

This is the white cursor I'm using - see post 10 for cursor png.
In case anyone is still using this mod, I thought I would share the cursors I'm using now. Here are 2 greyscale versions of the cursor that was located inside the original framework (the original cursor had blue outline and bluish shadow). I think they look pretty good with a little bit of shadow effect.
You need to rename these png as "pointer_arrow.png" and place them in the appropriate folder. NinjaMorph is pretty great to use for this and wingdo posted a really helpful guide in post #13.
1. pointer_arrow (hdpi).png - this is used when dpi = 213. Replace pointer_arrow.png inside drawable-hdpi folder with this file.
2. pointer_arrow (mdpi).png - this is used when dpi = 180. Replace pointer_arrow.png inside drawable-mdpi folder with this file.
These cursors may work with other dpi (I haven't tried others), but I know they work for at least 213 and 180. I've attached screenshots of these cursors with 213 and 180 dpi.
Any ideas to what I might be doing wrong or is the method just not compatible with 4.2?
The image is white when viewing the one in framework.apk, but it's still black when drawing it onscreen.

It looks like wifesabitch in post 14 had this working with 4.2. What dpi are you using? The cursor png is pulled from different folders depending on the dpi so that might be the issue.
-----------------------------------------------
Just tried it on CROMi-X 4.6.6 / JB 4.2.1 and it works with 180 and 213 dpi.
Oh, didn't know that. I'm using 160 dpi.
