Does anyone know of a way to wireless access files on a hard drive connected to an Airport Extreme using a Xoom?
AFAIK, ES Explorer lets you access SMB shares on a LAN.

Check out Wifi File Explorer in the market. I believe you will be able to do that.
got it working with File Explorer HD. thanks for your replies!

I am trying to find a file manager that can see the contents of other machines on my Windows network using SMB. I can't get Astro's SMB extension to work ....force close. ES File Explorer somewhat works but is very slow and not really useable. I have tried about half a dozen others and these are no better. Any recommendations on what does work will.
I am using Tiamat Manta Ray 2.0.1.
Thank you Gordon.

You might want to try File Manager HD.
Estrongs file explorer
I recommend Estrongs file explorer. This app access and browses microsoft smb net with scan option. Works great with Windows 7.
Ghost Commander works well for me. I can browse my NAS and transfer files to and fro easily.
file manager he is working for me, too... can see and pull from my NAS and other networked devices

I also recommend this. I hooked up with my Home server and use it to transfer video files & comics over wifi. recommend
Thanks for the suggestions. The only one that seems to work smoothly for me is Ghost Commander. The only limitation that I have found with it so far is that I can't view the contents of files that reside on networked machines. I have to copy to the Xoom and then view locally.
Maybe the difficulties that I have found with other apps is a result of using Tiamat Manta Ray 2.0.1.
Thank you
Gordon
Have u tried ANDSMB it works fine for me, I can see all shared and public folders in my all computers in the house
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App

its not the rom - file mgr HD sees, opens, and fetches from my NAS via wifi without issue
Obviously my Transformer is on my network, but how can I make it see the other devices on it? I would like to keep my music on one PC and then when I travel just copy over the songs i want to bring. Or i want to keep all my PDFs in one simple location so i don't have to search for them, yet be able to read them on my Transformer.
Do I need static IPs?
I use "es file explorer", or "astro" to see all of my other devices on my network, and then just browse to the location I want...
+1 for ES File Exploer - does SMB, FTP, SFTP, Dropbox, etc... Absolutely awesome... Can even stream videos via the network via ES File Explorer!
Ok, you can't use the stock File Manager for that kind of activity? Eye opener!
Hi,
I'm considering this tablet as a gift for my gf.
I'd just need to know if there's an app/mod (I'd prefer not to root, but if it's necessary, I'm no-problem) able to read music from a PC in home, an Ubuntu machine with Samba shares.
Also, which app would you suggest in order to see, manage and perhaps lightly edit picasa pictures and albums ?
Thank you very much !!
Fabio
I use ESFile Explorer, just add your lan folder/share in ES, and thats it, you can stream/copy any file from there.
I use it to stream movies from my windows xp download machine
ES File Explorer on android market
GoogleMusic. I use it on all of my Android products and I love it. Added advantage of being able to sign in to ANY computer and have your music as well.
With a rooted Transformer you can use CIFS to basically make any network share look like a local file folder on the tablet itself, as long as you're on the same network as the computer sharing the media.
Any good apps/methods to access my shared media on my local WiFi network?

i use a app called ES File Explorer you can download it from the market.
Its dead easy to setup. it will scan for computers on your network and then show you all the shared files.
Ahhh, knew the solution was under my nose lol. I Love that app. Thanks for the advice

glad it works for you
ES file explorer is good, but I also use Remote Media Center. It's great if you use Windows Media Center but it requires a server program on the host computer called Remote Potato. I like it cause it transcodes high-def video into a lower bitrate so you can watch it on your phone or stream to anywhere if you're out of the house.
Wouldn't this be DLNA?
es file explorer has worked perfectly for me. I have a samba file server I access with it
Is there a way to hook this tablet up to my hard drive that is connected to my router? I have a ton of movies stored on this drive and would like to be able to stream them to my tab2. I tried using ES file explorer which found my router, but it's asking for username and password, which I have no idea what they are. It's not the same one that I used to access the router from my web browser. Any Ideas? I don't necessarily need to be able to do this anywhere but in my home.
thanks in advance

ES File explorer works, ive just searched and found my home server and my video folder streams no problem, might depend on your NAS drive, what make is it?
I have Netgear router with USB drive attached to it and the media server enabled. My Tab 2 finds all the media files automatically. ES File explorer works are well.
